Back from surgery
Posted 8 years agoI'm back finally, It was rather rough. The surgery went without a hitch but talk about the pain later! For the first three days i was almost bet ridden, they had to put two of those meshes in me to repair the hernia and that added to the recovery time from the initial operation from a week and a half to two weeks and two months to achieve full recovery and activity. I'm back at work (yesterday was my first day back) but can't do much outside of assembling things i'm really wearing out my 3/8 impact now since I can't pull on wenches, I also can't swing hammers which is making it rather interesting doing things around the shop (mechanics gotta have his hammer!) so it's going to be hard sighs. The good news is though is that it's done and I don't have to worry about it, I'm still a little sore but I'm loads better than I was before the surgery so it was worth it. I'm going to be real tight cash wise for a while so everything not necessary has been put on hold until i can recover. Anyway you all have a good one take care! (Axle out)
Going into surgery... :(
Posted 8 years agoYup guys the Axle is going under the knife. I have a hernia that has turned rather serious so they ordered me into surgery tomorrow so I'm going to be out of it for about a month and money is going to be real tight for a while. So what does this mean? missed bill payments (surgery is costing me two grand up front) PAIN and lotsa inactivity which is going to drive me totally up the wall since i hate standing still for long. Anyway just wanted to let everyone know whats going on so take care folks (Axle out)
Probably gonna hate me for this but...(Warning Rant!!!)
Posted 8 years agoOk people, here's the deal This violent political finger pointing bull shit is getting WAY out of hand. I got called a dangerous Nazi, Racist and a fascist yesterday Just because I wouldn't tell someone who I voted for, I was white, straight and owned a gun!! First of all who I vote for, is my business and mine alone end of line I do not ask anyone who they voted for and therefor I do not want anyone asking me!!! I'm sorry for sounding like an asshole but I have my reasons for this. Also just because i'm white and straight and that I happen to own one of those supposedly evil AR15's does not mean i'm racist, a bad guy or i'm automatically dangerous geese...Yes true I admit I don't support the LGBT movement but if it's what they want or who they are?, then it's their business no big deal!! I don't have any problems with it! I DON'T force my views on anyone so DON'T force yours on ME! It's ok to have a little debate here and there (those can be fun!) but getting in someone's face, berating them or out right attacking them just because of who they vote for, who they are or or not believing the way you do is wrong! This country is out of control and will scatter like a Red lining runaway diesel if things don't start calming down and soon...Sorry if I offended anyone here but it's how I feel right now and I had to get this off my chest. Anyway (End of Rant)

Back from MFM and now expecting a visit from Irma >_<
Posted 8 years agoHi guys, yup as the title reads, I'm back from MFM which went great btw, very relaxing and quite cool which was nice considering that it is usually hot during this con. Got in Thursday night right in the middle of Harvey. Talk about nasty,55+ mph winds all night and the rain... however Friday morning was very nice as well as the rest of the weekend. It was refreshing to meet up with old friends, a much needed break from work (being a mechanic has it cons believe me!). It was sad that it had to end. Anyway got home ok and back to work I went and now it looks like Irma is going to whoop up on Florida and on us by monday. They are saying depending on which way it moves, we are going to get either hurricane force winds or tropical storm force winds along with a huge amount of rain, Not Good... especially since I live pretty much in the dang woods and i'm in a manufactured (Mobile) home which means wait for it... NO Insurance! sighs so I'm starting to pack a few vital things away just in case I have to make a bee line to atlanta. Anyway I hope everyone in florida weathers through this ok I know its gonna get REAL bad down their way so everyone be very careful and get out of dodge if it comes to that ok? Take care furs and furrettes. (Axle)
Just an update on myself
Posted 8 years agoHi all sorry for being inactive, RL has been rather challenging as of late with work and having to handle the affairs of my mother who is now in a nursing home, my dad is not far from going into one also :(. Other than the before mentioned, it's been boring not much going on other than trying to fix things. MFM, which is coming up the first week in Sept is fast approaching and I can't wait! work has been crazy and As far as the furry scene goes, there hasn't been anything going on at all, the local furry group in my area has all but vanished so it basically been me, myself and I. It gets kinda boring with no one to hang out with. The RC scene has been the only bit of activity that I've had in the last few months with tweaking on my Yak 54 (finally got the tank issue squared away) and Redesigning the exhaust on my SBach 342 (last coupler turned to goo and dropped both exhaust extensions out the back of the cowl) so I'm designing a new one at work. Also exploded a bearing in the OS 46AX in my Avistar after having it only four months with less than two gal of fuel through it, OS engines has gotten cheap with their bearings so I ordered new ones from boca bearings (no more dead bearings YAY!!) Anyway this is just some insight into whats going on with the AXLE so you all take care

Posted 8 years agohi all i know long time! anyway I finally did some RC flying today, took my Sbach 342 and Avistar elite out for a spin both did well with the exception of my Sbach killing an Exhaust coupler on the left cylinder and burnt a hole in the cowling so no video of it YET, the Avistar however I managed to get a short flight video of. the day was real windy and cool due to a front coming in but other wise it was fun. the video is unedited btw so forgive my blunders lol, anyway enjoy! MFM winding down
Posted 10 years agoIt's 2:56AM central Monday morning as I type this, Just got into the room after doing my last rounds at MFM 2015. This year was great fun and was very relaxing, something that I've been needing all year but as all good things go, it has to come to an end and end it did and I'm already beginning to suffer from PCD (Post Con Depression) Oh well always next year to look forward too. Anyway got to hit the bed, got a long drive ahead of me tomorrow so you all take care and I'll add more when I get back home! Till then lata (Axle)
Getting ready for MFM
Posted 10 years agoHi all as I type this, I'm getting things packed up for MFM 2015! This year it's gonna be kinda different for me since I won't be bringing anything really substantial as far as RC goes this year, this is due to a number of factors one being time (Job) as well as funds. I've also managed to score a good paying job which I have not started yet since they haven't gotten in touch with me about a start date *shrugs* so I've been in limbo with that so I haven't been able to plan things out with things changing around so much. I will be bringing a couple of things this year one being a very tiny Cox .010 engine powered model as well as my Traxxas slash which has been there every year for quite a while. Other than that I'm going to be packing light. Anyway hope to see ya'll there take care folks! (Axle)
Short Control Line flying vid
Posted 10 years agoHi all, long time no see, sorry for my hiatus lately, RL caught up with me for a while anywho here is a small video of one of my model planes flying it's not RC but a control line model called a 1/2A Skyray from Sig manufacturing. It's powered by a modified Cox .049 and is pretty quick it's capable of more than level flight btw it's just not setup for stunting. This video was made for another forum I'm a member of called the Cox Engine Forum here's a link for any furs who may be interested that like cox engines http://www.coxengineforum.com/ It's a cool forum full of good info for those interested. Anyway here's the video

Opps!
Posted 11 years agoTrying to get things ready for MFM and took my HPI 5b out for a test run the other day when I herd POP then no go, I popped the cover off the trans housing (Love that turtle racing quick diff) to look for the problem and found the Diff housing along with the gear had split in half Ouch! :( so I had to order a whole new diff "Innards, gear and all and there not cheap" then hope it gets here in time to put it back together before I leave for the con. Oh well you race em you break em as they say I just wish it decided to explode earlier. Anyway take care folks Axle out.
((Note))
For those who were at MFM last year and had heard during closing ceremonies about Twizler Skunk and I bringing a drag motorcycle (vintage pro-stock Kawasaki KZ1000) for a photo shoot and display. I hate to say this but we are NOT going to be able to bring it due to a sudden problem (engine/electronics related) and we just don't have enough time to get the bike fixed and checked out before the con so we just wanted to say sorry :(

I'm still around folks
Posted 11 years agoHi everyone just a little note to say that I'm still around. I lost my net six months ago and have just now got it back. A quite a few things happened during this absence but none of it compared to the very recent loss of my black lab mix Buddy who passed away from a sudden stroke about a week ago at 18 years old :( Known as "Granpa buddy" by all who live near me, I found him as a small starving puppy scrounging near a dumpster He was truly one of a kind, you could trust him around anything and everything and had this uncanny knack of knowing when someone was upset or sad or sick and would go over to that person and lay his head in their lap which always brought a smile to anyone's face no matter who they were and he absolutely loved kids. Buddy was one of the most loyal dog's that I've had. I miss ya buddy take it easy on your eternal journey.

Trike ready for first flight after engine change
Posted 12 years agoYup, got the engine back Friday (zero time 582 Rotax) and completed the installation yesterday and fired er up for the first time. Today I performed some fast taxis and did a few adjustments to the carbs, safety wired the vent cap for the gearbox and reset the limits in the EIS. Now she's ready for er first hop finely. Hopefully the weather will improve by the weekend so I can perform the flight tests and I can't wait :) Also I'm going to be posting a short video of my trike just after the taxi tests in a little bit so until then, take care folks (Axle)

Rough times..
Posted 12 years agoWell first of all, I hope everyone had a great Christmas this year. Mine wasn't all that great but hey, it happens, anyway a little peek at what has been going on with this old hound. One week before Christmas, I suffered an engine failure in my plane, luckily it happened on the ground during taxi so I was able to shut it down and push it back to the hanger. Upon inspection, it appears to have suffered a center bearing failure on the crankshaft 'fun' so off came the engine and had to wait till a day after Christmas to take it down to Naples Florida for overhaul and what a trip that was. I had to go down to Miami with a friend anyway to go pick up some files and the trip to Naples was on the way no big deal right? well, read on.... Except for several wrecks going down I75, the trip down was decent, went to Naples to drop off my engine and sat around for a bit to let my tail rest then left Naples for Miami and got there around 7:00pm. Got a hotel room *169.00 a nite for a small room >.<* and layed over for the night. The next day we left to grab the files and head back and well, fate had different plans for us...Not only was the traffic crazy but our GPS managed to get us lost in Mid town and we spent the better part of 4 hours trying to find our way back out (I wasn't driving). We finally found the place we needed to go and we picked up the files and we left for Warner Robins Via the turn pike. Everything went ok until my friend started talking about how reliable his car has been, *word to the wise, Never pat something mechanical on the back unless you want it to fail* and Fail it did, when we reached Orlando, the car lost some power and began making some noise. Myself being a mechanic I pointed out that he best stop and check it out that a noise with a sudden loss of power is not a good sign. Well my friend who thinks he knows everything said it was ok that he's heard that sound before, I said not with a loss of power and this noise meant that something wasn't happy inside the motor that it was a sign that the engine was about to chuck it's guts out. He said once again that he knew what it was and it was no biggie. I wen't O..Kay and sure enough 5 minutes down the road it did what I said, it puked it's guts out. It began skipping then it suddenly lurched, made some other sounds that a dieing motor normally makes then boom parts began ejecting out the back along with an oil slick 1/2 mile long. We pulled off the road and i looked it over knowing what it was already, It blew the whole side of the block out and dropped the crank Yup mechanical DOA coming up. He ended up buying a new car so we could get home. The rest of the trip went ok and we got home at 2am sat morning whew luckly the my engine will be shipped back to me. Anyway I hope everyone has a great new year and be careful, Don't brag about your car or truck too much ya here!! (Axle)
Wing change
Posted 12 years agoYup after considerable though, i've decided on changing out the wing on my trike. The "why" for this is for two reasons, one, the wing I currently have (Cosmos Top 14.9) has a slight interference issue with the hang point knuckle on the carriage (Air Creation GTE-S Twin) and while it hasn't been an issue with control and flies very well, it still makes the wing incompatible with the trike and two, I've discovered that the way this wing is designed, it's very difficult to properly attach a camera mount to the underside of this wing without causing a yaw stability issue. After looking around, I've decided on getting a North-Wing Quest GT4 13,5m strutted wing with their universal Hang block because it's a lot easier to store since it doesn't have that annoying king post (pole on top of the wing) and can be pushed into the hanger with out lowering the wing, it can be folded while on the trike and the wing has two hard points for a standard GoPro mount on each side of the wing (Nice!!) plus it will be a good bit faster too. Once I am able to sell my current wing and get the new one i'll have some pics of it up and I can't wait to use the camera mounts, no more GoPro issues :) Anyway till the, take care. (Axle)
Happy Thanksgiving

A bad night
Posted 12 years agoI was with a friend tonight and we hit a deer well two deer actually 0ne lept out in front and got hit head on and the other I guess tried to leap over the truck and went through the windshield. We were in his brand new truck when this happened and we ended up upside down in a ditch. Out side of a few nicks and some whiplash we are both fine but his truck was totaled. Talk about a bad night and man am i sore. Anyway Time for this sore hound to hit the hay take care (Axle)
REAL Close Call >.<
Posted 12 years agoWell this hound now has a few more strands of grey in his muzzle, the other day I was at the airport flying my trike and ALMOST hit a deer on takeoff. My habit of having a little extra speed before liftoff saved my tail this time because a deer bounded out in front of me out of nowhere and turned towards me and I slammed the control bar full forward in an attempt to leap over the deer (was going too fast to steer around) and ended up in a REAL steep climb at a high angle of attack heading for a whip stall. I feel that the extra speed gave me just enough time to get the bar pulled back and flatten out to regain airspeed WHEW. Anyway to make a long story short I continued to climb to pattern height to gain my whits and asses the situation and land just in case there was any type of damage since I had a weird vibration and was worried that the prop might have gotten a piece of the ground or Deer for that matter which thankfully turned out to be just a hung float in one of the Carburetors. I'm still going through the wing making sure it wasn't overstressed. The guys that saw the indecent said if i was in any other aircraft there would of been a crash and I believe it. So any fur that flies, keep an eye out for them deer I know I will for now on. (Axle)
Yet another day.
Posted 12 years agoWell MFM is over for another year and as usule, I had a blast and looking forward to next year. Now since summer is over, it's time for me to start putting things away for the season and it's bumming me out. I put in maybe two flights in since I got back from MFM due to starting problems and the change in the weather so I'm going to concentrate on flying only to finish up getting my certificate, afterwards, I'm gonna de-carbonize and pickle the engine, drop and de-rig the wing and put it in its sleeve then put it away till spring and I still haven't been able to get this video done. I swear this has been one of the roughest years I've had in a Very, very long time. Maybe just maybe I'll get a good video in before I put it away. Anyway have a good evening folks and i'll be seein' ya next time, till then be safe. (Axle)
MFM final prep.
Posted 12 years agoWell I'm finalizing things for MFM. i'm going to be leaving out tomorrow afternoon so I'm trying to get the 5b run in some more so I can open it up a little for the demo. Other than that, we have just about packed up what we are going to take. One last notice, We are hosting an RC panel there so if any of you are going and have an RC, bring it :) Anyway be safe and we'll see ya at MFM. :)
Damn what a week and still not done.
Posted 12 years agoWell as I type this, we "Twizler Skunk and I" are at Jackson Co Airport (19A) sitting around in the pilot's lounge twiddling our thumbs. what started off as a simple trip to Texas to do a pre-buy inspection on a trike for a friend of mine has turned out to be a full week ordeal. A couple of days prior we arrived at the airport to drop off the trike and got stuck there due to a storm that produced a tornado that passed close to the airport which required us to stay over. We finally got over to Twizler's place to stay out the weekend and try to fix his Mazda RX-7. today we left in said RX-7 that we THOUGHT was running good at the time and headed back to the airport to pull the mags off the trike to comply with an AD and the RX-7 quit and now we are stranded here at the airport waiting on my dad to bring the tow dolly to tow the RX-7 down to my place which will be another four damn hours, This Sucks! Anyway take care folks, I'll update when we get back home, When ever that is. (Axle)
Good flight today
Posted 12 years agoTwizler Skunk came down today and since the weather was good, we went to my buddies place at the airpark where my trike is housed and got him a ride in my buddies plane :) I also flew my trike for a bit and did some touch & go's which twizler got some video of and it turned out pretty nice. I'm gonna try and get it posted so everyone can take a peak at what goes on. Hopefully the weather is finally straightening out enough so I can get some flights in and maybe get that cross country vid done too. Anyway take care folks and see ya next time :)
Network back up Finally!
Posted 12 years agoYup Finally got my network up and going again so I'm back. And on another note I'm beginning to make final plans for MFM. For those that do not know I host an RC panel there So if any of you have an RC and are going to MFM come on by the panel :)
I'm still around
Posted 12 years agoI want to say sorry for not being around lately, I've been having networking issues for the last several weeks but I will be back soon. If anyone that knows me, needs to get in touch with me just send me a text (478)391-3066 and i'll get back with ya. Take care folks axle out
Amazing what oil CAN do >:(
Posted 12 years agoWell, I've been having starting problems with my trike recently and finely tracked down the problem. It turns out the oil that i've been trying to use up that came with the trike has been causing the problems. I've been using Ethanol free mogas with no problems with it until the last couple of flights since the station got shut down which forced me to start using ethanol blended mogas. The oil, Amsoil Dominator Race synthetic seams to not like the new ethanol blended green gas that we have and apparently turns to goo and coats the plugs IN ONE RUN >:( which is why I've had to replace the plugs each time I've run it recently. I didn't have this problem with the ethanol free gas which I've always run with in my two strokes, until now since I cannot get it anymore *Growls* This means I'm going to have to drain the tank and purge the oil from the Rotor valve to change the oil. *sighs* oh well time to get busy *pulls out tools and heads to the hanger* take care folks.
