Happy they found a solution, such is the fun of file systems!

A light TL:DR of the main journal:

FA was expanding their data storage servers to accommodate the expanding users in FA. And when they brought the site back online, the Servers which handle showing your web browser the website had difficulties accessing parts of the data server. This was caused by an error in the way FA mounts the remote files to the web servers.

Gotta love unexpected problems! :D

I seen the news earlier today that Dragoneer passed away. I was hoping his condition would improve from his posts on BlueSky, but it's sad to hear he lost the battle with his sickness.

I won't be going anywhere. I'm remaining on FA until I can no longer.

So this is a first for me. Living in a colder climate area, typically its very snowy at this time of year... But this year, it's above freezing during Christmas!

First time experiencing a Christmas without (much) snow!.. I gotta say, I kind of miss the cold stuff, but it's really interesting to experience it for once!

I typically make it a point not to talk about what's going on in my life, especially the bad... But these past few days have tipped me over a boiling point...

Starting last Thursday. I was cleaning up a Sword I own. A replica of the Legend of Zelda Master Sword. Cleaning dust off and applying more protective wax. Well, as I was placing it back in its display place, it slipped out of my hands... Causing me to instinctively try and catch it. Big mistake, the edge is very sharp ((sharpened from the maker, I didn't sharpen it)), and sliced a sizeable gouge in my thumb. Thankfully that was the only injury I sustained, but with 3 stitches now in my thumb, and needing to let it heal up... It hurts to do certain things, and I also wanted to do many things this week and the weekend that passed. But, I have to take care of a wound instead... Doesn't sound like it, but a thumb injury is more inconvenient than you'd think...

Things were going well, until tonight. Where my PC, the one thing I use to destress, and to work from home, decides it is a good time to break on me. I'm pretty sure I need a new graphics card, but man, I did not want to spend that type of money right now... I've been saving up for other things, and this just throws wrenches in plans. I cannot be without my PC for long, as I've said, I use it for my actual job, so I'll need a solution fast...

I had a light panic attack when I got home from work, before the PC troubles, and the stuff with the PC just sent me over the edge. I admit to crying out of sheer frustration and stress... I feel like a total failure for things relatively outside my control...

It's been a while that I wrote a journal, I just wanted to say a few things.

First of all, I thank you all for who watches me and interacts with me. I know I don't upload much of the art I get, it's a combination of mentally drained mind and just no will to upload due to some issues I'm currently trying to fight myself mentally to surpass.

Secondly, today (July 24) is my birthday! Wanted to celebrate it with as many fluff balls as possible, you all are so amazing, :3

And finally, this one may be a disappointment to some, but this year's Azura Month YCH won't be happening. A light combination of no good ideas on my part and a huge payment of mine coming up, I cannot justify spending on art in the month of August. Azura will still be around doing her usual shenanigans, but I won't be able to do a hosted YCH.

As the title suggests, I do need some help with thinking of a design for a character.

Heres the general thought of this character:
- A snake Anthro lamia, so bottom half is snake tail, but top half is Anthro serpentine.
- Female
- Looks wise, not too "sexy" but good looking
- A motherly figure to another character

I'm open to suggestions as to how I should design her.

She's gonna be part of a special serpentine race within my fantasy world. I'm thinking the males are strong but smaller, usually with a cobra like hood. While the females are generally longer/taller than males, but not as strong. They're gonna be magically gifted, so they don't always rely on strength (male and female). Bonus if anyone also helps me decide a name for this race of serpents. As a guideline, Azelia's race is "Keisunna", which has some Kitsune like hints in it. ((Update, I decided on a racial name: Serpannis))

Any suggestion would help, I'm drawing a massive blank on how to design them. And no, I can't use my adorable lovely Cleo for this role, as Cleo herself has her own back story and lore :3

So recently,  Jackson77 and I have been playing Phantasy Star Online 2 on PC, and we have created an Alliance, called the Photon Science. The craze of this website getting hit with multiple DDoS attacks are getting frequent again. So I'd like to just post a journal with things about DDoS that will hopefully help people understand what they are and what happens.

DDoS stands for "Distributed Denial of Service". Before I can get into what that means though, I wanna go over what the basics of a Denial of Service attack is. At its core, this type of attack means to, as the name implies, deny a service. A website is basically a service ran on computers, mainly Apache of Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Service). These web services make it possible for websites like FurAffinity to display on our computers, phones, tablets, and other devices via a web browser. They are typically hosted on a server in datacenters with really amazing internet speeds. We're talking several gigabit per second of uploads and downloads.

When someone initiates a denial of service attack, they'll attempt to overload either that connection bandwidth or the web server hosting the page. Networking equipment only have so much capacity, and once that capacity is exceeded, they crash. Let's take a Cisco Router for instance (no, not the WiFi ones you buy at best buy.), they are typically rated for up to 100 gigabits per second (gbps), which may sound super fast, but remember that when 10 000 users are requesting data at the same time, that internet feed fills up fast. A denial of service attempts to flood that connection with useless data, in an attempt to drown out the legitimate traffic. And if you surpass the capability of the router, it will quite literally give up and crash, forcing a system admin to restart it.

The problem with a denial of service attack, is that to unleash it, you need to have greater bandwidth than the target of your attack, which typically never happens on residential lines. Enter the Distributed Denial of Service attacks. Instead of 1 person attacking, they use a whole botnet of computers to attack a single host. Now you're getting into the scary world of DDoS. With the right botnet, you can unleash attacks that can reach 800 or 900 gbps of bandwidth, and I believe the record was 1.14 terabits per second. To put that number into perspective, if one person had that kind of speed, you'd be able to download the game Assassin's Creed Odyssey in less than a second, and that game is over 120GB big.

So scary stuff, and it's unfortunately super easy for one to go to a website and purchase the resources to send a DDoS to a service like FA. So how does one mitigate it? Well, just like how you can increase the size of the attack, you can increase the size of the defence. Cloudflare, the service FA, Discord and many other companies use, has a massive network capable of withstanding a theoretical 1.5 terabits per second of an attack. They do this by spreading the load of the attack to their many, many nodes. Instead of 1 box having to deal with the brunt of all that garbage data, thousand of nodes team up and split the load, allowing, with a small delay, services like FA to continue running as if business was normal.

The recent attacks on FA however, found a way around this protection. Everything in the cyber security world is a constant race to outsmart the hackers. So while it's easy to blame FA for their downtime... Remember there are those who loath furries, and have more money than sense. So they will buy the best hacks just to try shutting down the website for a bit.

I hope this helped shed some light on what a DDoS attack is, and why they are such a pain to deal with. Feel free to ask any questions or make any comments in the comment section, I'll try to answer them all!

Welp, honestly I'm happy with it. Enabled dark mode long ago to help with the bright lights, but it's been great to use. I've been using the Beta form of this new look for a few years now, and I quite like it, and with this newest ui update, love that I can finally see my folders in mobile view! Such a great addition.

Gonna keep my eye out for any negatives, but as someone who hobbies in web design, I think this is a good looking website now, Hehe. Feel free to disagree if you want, this is afterall, my opinion :)
