Communication Preferences
Posted 10 months agoAs someone who is a regular (and likely heavily addicted) commissioner, I tend to get a lot of scam 'artists' messaging me and asking to be commissioned. I bet a lot of fellow commissioners (and artists I bet) deal with this. This is becoming especially prevalent on Discord. They will be like "Hey I got your Discord off FA" and I'll be like "My Discord information is not on FA." I know the obvious thing is just "ignore random people messaging you on Discord", but this is getting annoying. I figure 90% of these folks are scammers or bots, but just in case some newbie artist gets the impression this is how you get people to commission them, I'm going to add an extra nail in the coffin by adding this:
IF WE ARE NOT ALREADY FRIENDS, DO NOT MESSAGE ME ON DISCORD ASKING FOR COMMISSIONS!!!
If you are looking for work, show your work here on FA, on Blue Sky or some other accessible gallery, and clear instructions on how to contact you for commission requests. Put up good enough work, and I'll message you.

Mastodon Hunt
Posted 3 years agoKinda ironic my last journal was about Twitter...
So, with the Bird Website crumbling piece by piece, I'm on the lookout for a replacement. The one gaining the most traction in the circles I follow is Mastodon. BUT, just making an account isn't so simple it seems like. You have to sign up to a specific instance/server, which I think pops up as part of your username. This bit of identification is making it very hard to for me to pick out a server. I think the most popular furry-centric one is 'meow.social' , which, I don't think goes well alongside 'Bahumot.' I know that once you're signed up for one server you can view all the others and it doesn't REALLY matter, but it's gonna be part of my NAME, and naming characters is always the hardest part for me .
If folks know of any good Mastodon servers to join, please let me know! There has to be a dragon-furry centric one out there... that isn't too weird and into vore .

Twitter Page!
Posted 6 years agoSo I have a new Twitter page. I've been on Twitter for a long time, but I looked at it as more of a RL/Work social thing than contacting/sharing with/commissioning artists. And lately I've been hesitant to fav, comment, much less retweet on my main account. So, new account with Furry Anonymity!
https://twitter.com/Bahumot_Horde
I'll be slowly trying to post my vast archive of art (including stuff I never posted here for some dumb reason), and will probably see my new commissions sooner. Largely due to the ease of posting and linking to the artists over FA submissions.
There seems to be a slow but steady shift to Twitter for finding and sharing and commissioning art. I'm never giving up on FA until it literally explodes, and will try to keep posting art here. But FA does need to adapt and it's slow to do so.

BLFC 2019 Report
Posted 6 years agoAfter a few weeks of recovery, can finally talk a bit about BLFC!
The most notable thing about the con, was the drive there. I was thinking "Reno is just 2 or 3 hours of extra driving over San Jose, I can drive this!" Me being a Southern California native, and this being July, I did not expect to find myself suddenly driving in a SNOW STORM. Had the most terrifying drive I've ever made going across iced up roads and white-out visibility, with no chains, and no easy way to turn around. But my little 'ol Jeep made it through, and I got to BLFC in one piece (and hugging said Jeep once I parked in front of the Hotel).
The con itself, decent! BLFC continues to show a unique dedication to their theme, with Table-Top RPG / D&D stuff all over the place. Was even able to by some new Dice and a Dice Tray in the Artist Alley. If I had more friends at the con, I'd have joined a game or two.
BLFC did something new with the dealer's den. The first day, they handed out tickets that would let you into the Dealer's Den at a specific time. At first, this upset me, as I was trying to get into the Dealer's Den early enough to snag art from 'Certain Super Popular Artists Who Are Also Super Wonderful' (Spoilers, I did not). But in the end, I kinda liked that system, as it did largely remove the waiting-in-line-for-hours issue. I did have to wait in a long line despite that, since when my time slot came up, a bajillion folks loitering around the Den suddenly formed into a giant line. And this was after the con staff and their Twitter recommended going out and enjoying the con, and coming back just 10 minutes before the appointed time. I think the ticket system can work, but it needs something in place for those of us who get down there and in-line at 6 in the morning to get into the Den first, and something to deter the line-loiterers.
Still got plenty of good art, which I'm going to start posting (Finaly!)
Absolutely plan to hit BLFC again. Though next time I think I'm going to fly...

Off to BLFC!!
Posted 6 years agoAfter a drought of being unable to hit conventions, I'm off to BLFC tomorrow!
Will absolutely be posting any and all awesome arts acquired. And hoping to run into folks and have a good, if not decent time :) .
Wish me luck on the 8 hour drive! (And kudos to those going who drive way further for this)

Looking for artists to draw Hand of Fate 2's Shadow Beasts
Posted 7 years agoHand of Fate 2 is one of the best indie RPGs I've played in the last few years. Highly recommend it if you enjoy role playing games of any kind. The latest DLC for the game added a new chapter, with new enemy types and a new companion representing that enemy type. And these new critters, called Shadow Beasts, are beautiful anthros.
Some screenshots!

And I'd like to have some artists draw up some commissions of this guy and his species! Ideally an artist who has played the game and aware of the nuances of the Shadow Beasts, but isn't absolutely necessary. FA needs to be swarmed with Shadow Beasts.

BLFC Report

GOOD! CON!
The convention was just STUFFED with fans, and featured many artists I had not seen in person in a long time.
Big shout-out to
shawnthegirl , who was massively fun to be around, and made some amazing art for me!
Met up with good friends
hirurux and
sahikari ! And had a grand time with them!
And met
rahiros who's clever suit and performances across the con was the most memorable and hilarious thing at said con. He had this ramshackle building of a suit and a puppet dragon head poking out and chatting with the audience, who's comedic timing and style had me grinning or busting a gut every time he invaded the dealer's den.
The con hotel itself was HUGE! Every room the con had was HUGE! There were also a plethora of restaurants and eateries inside, often situated just a few steps away from the dealer's den and main halls. In addition to the hotel staff wheeling out trays of cooked food (hot dogs, chicken tenders!) for purchase right in the main rooms. If you worry about feeding yourself at a con. BLFC is FOOD CON.
I did not stay in the con hotel (signed up too late for that), I parked myself in the cheap-o Quality Inn just south of the con hotel. It was only about a 10 minute walk between the hotel. Not an easy walk, going across multiple streets, under the freeway, and across the hotel parking lot, but do-able! The Quality Inn I stayed at was actually quite nice, had 0 problems and a wonderful, free breakfast.
My only complaint was the dealer's room set up. They made the tables form an L shape in front the door, forcing you to wind around them to get into the rest of the den. The setup was crappy, but the big empty center area was actually quite nice for viewing suit shenanigans.
Artists I met and snagged art from!
darknatasha ,
michelelight ,
danji-isthmus ,
kiriska ,
mountaingoat ,
Pooding ,
crunchobar ,
grrrwolf ,
hirurux ,
flinters ,
nut-case , and
shawnthegirl !
Expect that art coming soon!

Off to BLFC
Posted 8 years agoI'm flying out to BLFC tomorrow morning! This con has been spoken of highly by a lot of artists and fellow fans I follow, so its time to test the waters! (And start a much needed vacation!)
Hope to see you there!

Night in the Woods
Posted 8 years agoWhat is with these legendarily great 2D indie games that keep coming out lately?
Night in the Woods is something else. Not only does it feature cute anthros, it has an amazing story. These wonderful anthros all feel so very real, with very real world problems.
You owe it to yourself to play it. Expect fan art to be coming in the near future.
(Bea Rulz, OK?)

Califur 2016 Re-cap
Posted 9 years agoSurvived the brand-new Califur!
This tiny con got a serious update! The new hotel and venue was among the most accommodating I've been to. Namely, a massive dealer's den with super-charged AC that keep us cool during some very hot Cali days, and ample free parking.
Despite the number of people at the con, the parking areas never filled up, and were generally right out in front of the convention center. Plus, decent food (read, not just Subway) was just a few minutes drive away. Being close to food was always a problem at Califur's previous areas. Now, if you did not drive to the con / did not have a car, it would have been a bit of a walk to get to the nearest food places. But the convention center did have a tiny snack/concession store, mostly some fruits, cold sandwiches and coffee if you were desperate.
The dealer's done was huge and was neither crowded nor hot, thanks to those massive AC's. Seriously, I think this building was used to house aircraft I think . Met several wonderful, familiar artists in that den, and met some new ones.
Special shout out to
sandyschreiber ,
hbruton ,
dhstein ,
terriesmith ,
orcaowl ,
nastacula , and
quelico !!
Didn't have many issues at all with the con. I did not go to any of the panels, non seemed interesting. I was basically here by myself, the only folks I knew where behind the dealer's tables. Wish I could have hung out and chatted with each of you all weekend. Not having any friends and social groups to jump into was more a me problem than a con problem of course .
Certainly plan to hit the con next year, and I recommend it highly!

Great Sketch Prices from Kazen101!
Posted 9 years agoOne of my favorite artists,
kazen101 has lately been offering low-priced sketches on his stream. As you might be able to tell from my gallery, I've been jumping on these offerings and getting a ton of really good depictions of my characters for cheap! I HIGHLY recommend you hop on down to his FA page and take advantage of his offerings. He still has lots of slots open for regular commissions and his streams.
Some examples of the $15 I've gotten from him:

FC 2016 Report!
Posted 10 years agoOverall, a good con, with some disappointing moments.
Got to see
darknatasha ,
michelelight ,
hbruton ,
dhstein ,
skulldog ,
sidian ,
egypturnash ,
pmoss ,
Onnanoko and
mountaingoat , and got art from all of 'em! Will be posting it as soon as I acquire a new scanner.
Spent most of the time playing/listening to Undertale with
kazen101 .
Which leads to the disappointing aspect. There was *NOTHING* Undertale-related at the con. There was supposedly 1 panel centered on this masterpiece of the game, but it wound up being something COMPLETELY unrelated, and we stayed just long enough for them to start drawing insulting caricatures of the monsters we loved. I could tell there were fans here, I saw a few folks with the Fangamer shirts (which I wore the whole con ). The one shining star in this was a few folks in Undertale character suits, which were each pretty darn good. Saw a Papyrus, Sans, Muffet, and 2 Toriels (Damn it Sans!) Only saw them during the parade, would have loved to hang out with those dedicated folks.
Secondly, FC Unleashed, the variety show they do at the end of the con each year sucked on toast. All they had were a few bands come on stage, either distantly related or not at all related to the fandom, playing equally unrelated music. My compatriot described it as sounding like he was stuck back in Nashville. While, I'm sure the bands were talented, and the music decent for it's audience, but this was not the place. This is the first time me and Kazen have walked out in the middle of the show. The music didn't even fit the Classic Diner theme of the year.
Seriously guys, one of the best video games to come out in years and years and years and years, complete with a furry cast, and you don't A. Have a Panel or a place for us fans to meet up, and B. You don't have anyone during Unleashed play the Undertale tunes? Seriously?
Okay, maybe I'm a bit Undertale-Obsessed still, but man Unleashed sucked this year.

So Long 2015
Posted 10 years agoNot the worst year, but not the best either. Major things changed this year, that kinda needed to change. More changes will probably be coming this year, but so far they seem to be all good ones. Which means I'll still be getting lots of commissions and posting them here for your enjoyment.
Honestly, the things I'm looking forward to most for this year is the Fangamer Toriel plushy, and Dark Souls 3.
Yeah, still obsessed with Undertale. I'm listening to it's soundtrack as I type (Heartache :( ). Expect to see lots more art of Toriel and company I've commissioned.

Undertale Addiction
Posted 10 years agoI feel like I'm coming to the party late, seeing as the demo seems to have been out for some time. But Undertale just came out on steam, folks said it was Earthbound-esque, decided to try it out...
OMG. This little game hit me like a freight train. This is seriously one of the most powerful RPGs I've played in a long, long time. It's also stock-full of wonderful anthro characters. You owe it to yourself to go pick it up:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/391540/
Also, I must confess, I want to commission some fan art of Toriel. Artistic, respectful, realistic, not-out-of-character-porny arts. Holy goat is she amazing. Note me if you love her too and want to take a shot.

Posted 10 years agoJust wanted to mention that Califur came and went and was fantastic! So many of my favorite artists were there this year, and the con seemed to be pretty well put together. I can honestly recommend this con if you're in the area, or want an excuse to spend the weekend down here.
Most importantly, no Dealer Room Jury Shenanigans like SOME cons we know.
Will be posting art acquired at the con soon. (Starting with
Danji-Isthmus 's epic version of my Ophius)

Kazen's also still open for commissions as I mentioned in the last journal. He recently finished this Awesome Piece for me :) .

Posted 10 years agoOne of my favorite artists,
kazen101 is actively taking commissions! I keep going back to this guy to design my characters, new and old, and I can't recommend him enough! Many of the characters you see in my gallery began with his designs, concepts and ideas. He's got 2 slots open, and is taking stream commissions on his tigerdile page .

Faving and Commenting on the Original Artist
Posted 10 years agoWanted to mention a little something I've noticed. Often when I post commissions, I will include a link to the original artist's posting of the same piece, with the request that one go fav and comment their posting as well. Most of the posting of more famous artist understandably get a lot more favs and comments than my postings, but lesser-known artists get the opposite problem. I'll get more favs and comments then they do.
This leads me to believe that people are often faving a commissioner's re-posting of a piece, but not the original artist's if linked in the submission. I figure this is not a unique situation to my postings, but probably happens all over FA and other art sites. And I admit, I sometimes catch myself doing the same thing.
So I ask, whenever you see a posting here, if I provide a link the original artist's work, please click that link and fav the artist's version. Part of the reason I post my commissions at all is to increase awareness of those artists, especially the lesser-known ones who need more eyes on their work and more customers. At the very least, please go watch those artists!
Though, any recommendations to make those links easier to spot, or better incentives for viewers to go and fav the original artist's work?
