Computer is fuck'd
Posted 4 years agohey so my computer decided that my motherboard should die mid stream, so I've been unable to do much of anything for the past week. I'm working on getting replacement parts, but it's still going to be a while, no real ETA on when anything is going to be back up and running again.
Commission prices changing!
Posted 5 years agoHey- just letting people know my prices will be changing. It's not going to be anything drastic, and it's adjusting in kind of both directions simultaneously so let me just kind of explain how this is working.
I've recently been timing myself when I work on fully colored/transparant images to collect data about how long it takes me to do individual parts of the image. Using that information I can make it so I get paid roughly the same amount/time spent regardless of the type of commission. I'm keeping the maximum cost (basically) the same, so the prices are just shifting around a little.
Here's the current pricing I've come upwith:
Sketch - 5
Flat - 17
Full - 32
Transparancy - 50
Extra characters +60%
Complex characters +20%
Background cost will depend on complexity of background
(old prices were 5, 12, 40, 48, so some is cheaper, some is more expensive)
I'll be making a price sheet to reflect these changes eventually, just posting them here for now

New junk to draw (???)
Posted 6 years agookay so one thing I've been meaning to ask for a while; is there a character from a game/movie/book/hecking whatever you think I might be interested in drawing? I've been looking for some new stuff to try.
No personal OCs, and if possible, provide an image please. (as a link, unless it's really easy to just do like an image search for. otherwise I may not be able to figure out what you were saying)

Posted 6 years agoJust kind of wanted to thank everyone who's been supporting me over the last year so I can actually keep doing art for a living.
That goes for people who haven't been supporting directly as well, money's nice but just letting people know about me helps too.
At this point I've been able to sustain my life based solely on commissions and patreon, and that's been great. I don't have to worry about just slowly dying inside due to a regular boring ass job that I hate, and I'm financially stable enough to be able to just kind of do whatever at this point.
I was honestly really worried that this wouldn't work out, and that I'd just have to re-apply to the job I quit to start doing streaming regularly, but somehow you have all made it possible for me to literally do art for a living. It's kind of crazy.
I'm probably going to also be doing a giveaway thing on twitter soon(ish??) once I figure out how exactly I want to do it, if you're not already following me there, here's a link

Six months
Posted 6 years agoIt's been six months since I left my traditional job and started doing commissions for a living, and it's been going much better than I expected it. I really wanted to just thank everyone whose been giving me support (and/or money) so that I am able to even continue doing this!
So whether you've been supporting me through commissions, patreon, showing up to streams, or even just letting people know I'm open, I do really appreaciate it.
I'm not entirely sure what else to say- but I'm glad I shouldn't have to go back to customer service ever again, and you're all the reason I'm now able to do that.
So again; thanks to all of my followers for making this possible!

Drawstream (indlucing you?)
Posted 7 years agoHey, so I was going over some ideas for things I can do on my streams and the idea of streaming arts with other people came up.
So I was thinking maybe on one of my stream days, I could set that up and invite a couple people to come do a thing.
Main questions are:
A: who would be interested in drawing with me (I know one currently, but more might be nice too)
B: what program/website would work best?
If you're interested in joining, or just have a suggestion for the website/drawing program that works well for this, let me know and I'll take a look into it

Drawing career go!
Posted 7 years agoHey everyone, it's finally done!
I no longer have a 'normal' job- so I'll be doing more drawing and streaming now, as that will (hopefully) be my main source of income.
I'm also looking into other things than 'just' drawing, but that will come later once I feel more comfortable with it.
I want to thank everyone for being so supportive about this decision, and I'm really hoping things will work out.
On that note - commissions are definitely open! If you're interested, feel free to give me a poke and let me know what you like. I'll be adding an 'example commission sheet' thing so people can see what level of detail they are getting, as well as a couple other things to (hopefully?) make things easier for you guys. Prices here for the time being: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....CXaFyw7xA/edit
The current streaming schedule I have planned is:
Friday through Monday, from 12 PM to 5(ish)PM PST (GMT-8)
I also have a Patreon going as well, and here's a link if you want to check it out: https://www.patreon.com/squeakyflames
Also as a side note; feel free to poke me if you want to just want to talk or something too, I have a discord server if you're interested in joining: 0wNmhdWwwpmTqQYD or for a web link: https://discordapp.com/invite/0wNmhdWwwpmTqQYD

Change of employement, commissions, and life in general
Posted 7 years agoHey everyone, firstly I'd like to thank you for the input you gave! It helped me figure out I should actually be able to live off of full time arts and whatnot.
From the information gathered, it seems way more than possible for me to do this. I should be able to at least be able to pay for rent and food (which is really all I need) so I'll be starting doing regular streams in a couple weeks, after I've given two weeks for my current job. (approximately the 15th of Nov will be last day of work)
On that note, once my current job ends I'll be streaming 4 days a week for drawing, which I'm currently setting up for Friday through Monday, starting at 12PM PST. Already been doing Saturdays, so I just need to get used to doing this more consistently.
ALSO commissions are basically permanently open now, if you weren't already aware, the information for commissions is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....CXaFyw7xA/edit - several people told me I should actually increase my prices slightly, so I have made some minor changes to pricing (this won't affect anyone who had previously asked for a commission that was added to queue)
I'll be working on setting up everything else in the meantime - I have already re-set up my patreon if you stated you would be interested in doing that (tiers SHOULD be set up properly, I may have forgotten something?)
You can view that here: https://www.patreon.com/squeakyflames
I'll be working on getting the art done for relevant sites, as well as getting links up to them and whatnot, so as of right now they probably don't look THAT great, but.. again, working on it. I don't 'technically' go live with this till I quit my current job, but I'd like to get it all done sooner than later.
Also; here are the winners from the thing I did a couple weeks ago as well, I'll be poking the winners on my own in case they do not actually read this
(type, number, name, and location, if you're wondering)
Full - 22 - gmans - FA
Csketch - 14 - jack37343 - FA
Line - 21 - Indterminate Ammount of Hell - Discord
Sketch - 4 - OrangeMario - FA
Congratulations to the winners, should be working on the stuff for that soon, once I get in contact and get your requests

FREE COMMISSION GIVEAWAY - READ FOR DETAILS
Posted 7 years agoHey everyone,
I've been considering my career path lately, and I'm not entirely sure I like where it's heading.
Currently, I'm considering starting to try making my art the main source of income, by a combination of commissions, patreon, streaming etc. I'm trying to gauge interest in support in that method- I know that people get commissions, but I want this to be a sustainable thing, not just rely on commissions.
I will still keep commissions open as well however (and if you're interested, link here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....CXaFyw7xA/edit )
The goal I'm aiming for currently is:
- A streaming schedule for several days a week (some weekdays, some weekends)
- some sort of thing I can do for people who are willing to support a small monthly payment (via patreon)
- MAYBE get a personal website set up to manage everything from instead of being based off of FA.
So - now onto the part that most of you (probably) actually clicked this to get to; the actual giveaway.
Effectively, I'll be giving away some commissions to a few people selected randomly from a list. To get on the list, I would like you to respond to this journal with answers to the following questions - please keep them readable, as I'm trying to get actual information if I can. If you have additional comments or information, please put it before or after the actual responses to keep them separate.
1 - If you have the ability and money to set up a monthly payment on patreon, would you do it? If yes, how much would you give? (patreon has a $1/mo min, by the way)
2 - If I could encourage you to sign up for patreon if you wouldn't previously, what could I do?
3 - for people who want to give larger amounts of money per month, what do you think would be a good 'reward' for these people? (I'm thinking like, for 5/10 per month or something like that.)
4 - Do you think my current commission prices are fair? If no, what adjustments would you make?
5 - If I had a random donation link on my page/while I'm streaming, would you use it?
6 - What sort of drawings do you like seeing most from me? this can be the context, the particular characters, or just SFW/NSFW in general. Just what you like seeing.
I'll be collecting the information for this over the next week or two, and expect to be picking the winners on 10/27
I'll be picking four winners - one for each type of commission I do. (that's a sketch, colored sketch, lineart, and full color, for those who don't know)
As a side note, regular commission rules apply, and the commission can include up to two characters.

More commissions again. hooray.
Posted 7 years agoOkay, so, I've been thinking about re-re-re-reopening commissions again, however, I'm going to try and make it a bit more sustainable for me personally.
First of all, here's commission prices: https://docs.google.com/document/d/.....it?usp=sharing
Secondly, I will state here that I may be a bit picky with what I am willing to take. Don't be afraid to ask, but just know it's a possibility.
Thirdly, if I do accept a commission, it may not be done any time soon (or ever). I tend to take payment after completion, so you don't need to worry about not getting what you paid for.
Finally, I do appreciate all the support you have all given me all of this time. I know I have been kind of difficult to actually get ahold of in terms of commissions, but I do want to be able to let people get art from me, since I'm aware there's quite a bit of interest.
I'm hoping this time I'll be able to actually get a decent amount of work done, as I've gotten my work side of life together, so I should (hopefully?) have more motivation to draw.
Oh, and last little note, I don't know if I should still do patreon. If people still wanted to support that way, I'll keep doing it, otherwise I can just leave the site (I'm not particularly doing it for money at this point any more)

Commissions closing and yeah.
Posted 8 years agoI've been getting a lot of commission requests lately so I thought I may as well post this so people can stop asking.
Honestly, doing commissions has beeing more harm than good for me. They never really 'worked' for me, but for some extents of time, I was able to handle doing some so that I could draw things for people.
Every time I try taking commissions, it just ends up with me feeling like any time I go to draw, I *should* be working on commissions, which makes me feel bad for drawing anything else, which makes me want to draw less, which makes me try drawing less often.. and so on. That, and the occasional commission someone asks me to do that I just don't want to do, or that became grating to the point where I just wanted to stop altogether.. Every time I've 'closed' commissions in the past, it has been from that same sort of burn-out, and it's just getting to be too much for me to want to deal with any more.
I likely won't bother opening commissions again, especially since I'm already working full time, and commissions turn my hobby into a job that makes me miserable. I'd rather be able to draw and enjoy it, than stress over not getting commissions done in a timely manner.
So, tl;dr, no more commissions. ever. Sorry.

I'm "back" I guess
Posted 9 years agoHopefully I'm back to drawing and such again now. I've (mostly) gotten over the crap that had been bothering me, and have been doing a bit of drawing in my free time again.
This also means I should be able to take commissions again, as well as have some stuff to upload to my scraps and such. If you're interested in commissioning, feel free to note me about it.
Now for some side notes; for anyone who hasn't already joined, I have a toy-based discord server publicly available for anyone who wants to join. You can either join through your browser by just clicking the link, or you can connect to the server through discord itself for more permanent use. Link's here https://discord.gg/0wNmhdWwwpmTqQYD
Also- If you don't actually have anything you'd like commissioned but want to support me in general, I also have a Patreon set up ( https://www.patreon.com/user?u=2331092 ) Every bit helps, even if you just want to give $.10 per submission, that's fine. If enough people do that, it would add up to a lot more for me. If you're worried about the sketch spam I tend to do, I only do charges for my colored submissions, so it's not even all that frequent at the moment.

Kind of disappearing for a while I guess.
Posted 9 years agoAlready got a couple questions about why I haven't/might not be drawing as much so it would probably be better to answer that with a journal instead of responding to every question individually.
Basically put, I simply don't have any motivation for creativity any more. Most of my inspiration would come from interacting with friends, either as direct ideas, or just getting me in a good mood to work, but lately most of the people who had been able to do that for me have just kind of disappeared.
I've tried making new friends around here by posting my contact info publicly for people to add, and tried asking a few people I was interested in myself... except very few people actually seem interested in talking to me, and most just seem to like free stuff. Then the people I have been interested in seem to judge me based on the stuff I draw as opposed to who I am, which is pretty irritating in general.
So, I just don't even feel the urge to draw any more. Maybe I'll do something every now and then if I happen to get some random inspiration from like a dream or something, but honestly I just wouldn't count on much showing up for a while.
