Weasyl beta yo
Posted 13 years agothat's right! i totally managed to get myself into that thing
if you're cool like me and want to add me, go for it!

(excellent perk of getting in early--my ordinarily very common and thus taken username was free :3)
i really hope things work out for it, i like it about one million percent more than FA already and all i've really done on it is update my profile and browse around the site
then again it's really not hard to build a better site than FA WHOOPS DID I JUST SAY THAT OUT LOUD
also apparently after a certain amount of time they're going to give 10 invites to each user per month?? i don't have that many friends so i'd be happy to toss some around if you want them! <3

Posted 13 years agoas much as I dislike Renard one thing that I will always acknowledge as really fucking cool is the fact that he has like a different character for each genre that he works in (even though it's kinda unnecessary since all his music sounds p much the same anyway WHOOPS)
and I'd really like to do something like that--I dunno, I've always been really fascinated by the idea of virtual bands and things like that. I mean, I guess technically I'm trying to do something like that with Macedonia at the Paralypics, but considering my solo project, neko., doesn't really have any clear direction it might be kinda fun to make some characters and bands and stuff for whatever style of music I decide is cool each week. Might be useful to help get myself kinda focused, too. I think that's my biggest hurdle in productivity with my music. lack of focus.
It's just a huge shame that I would never be able to pull something like that off with any sort of validity in the furry fandom without people being all like "whoa dude quit ripping off Renard" (especially with how... fanatical Renard fans tend to be)
actually I probably could do it since like considering i have almost 100 watchers yet I get consistently like... an average of 0.5 of a comment on every drawing, piece of music, or journal I submit so... i guess it's not like anyone would notice anyway.

The Closet's EP is finally here!
Posted 13 years agoI bet you were worried that I'd forgotten about it after I said it'd be up on monday and then it wasn't.
You weren't?
Oh.
Well still. Despite the hiccups, it's finally online! Stream the EP online for free, and pay what you want for a digital copy of the EP in whatever format you choose--and if you pay at least $5, you'll have the option to get a physical copy of the EP in CD format! The CDs are hand-made and home-burned, individually numbered, and are limited to just 32 copies--and we've already sold a couple, so go go go~
Alternatively you can download it for free as mp3s at 128kbps, but the paid versions have a little something extra you won't find in the free version, if higher quality audio isn't incentive enough for you!
But yeah. It was certainly a journey getting this far. Some of you may remember that this was slated to come out over a year ago. It feels really good finally putting it out--this is the first CD I've ever made and after playing music for nearly all of my life, it's definitely a feeling, haha. I'm really proud and happy and I really hope you guys enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it for you. <3
Listen to and get it here--if you like guitar rock I think you'll enjoy it:

And spread the word, yeah? :3

Illustration programs.
Posted 13 years agoDoes anyone have any suggestions for Mac-supported illustration software?
Because for some reason, despite being supposedly the premier system for artists, I've yet to find something I'm satisfied with that works on a Mac.
I'm not a huge fan of Photoshop. The GIMP is actually the scourge of the earth.
autoDesk Sketchbook is pretty neat, although I'm not a huge fan of the free version.
I really liked openCanvas, but there's no Mac version of it as far as I know.
I also only have a 2008-model 4x6 Bamboo Fun. So yeah.
Any suggestions?

Or like bands that are widely regarded as poppy trash and never were cool just popular for some reason like Coldplay

If I started a livestream
Posted 14 years agoWould you watch it?
Programming would most likely include:
Drawing! (digital only, for the time being)
Singing! (and playing guitar. I'd probably take requests)
Writing music! (which would probably be boring)
Audio production! (which would probably be even more boring)
Video gaming! (maybe)
So yeah.

Posted 14 years agoLike that's a new thing.
I told myself I would draw something new every day for three months. So far, I've skipped about an entire month's worth of drawings. I still plan on making each of those days up at the end, but still. I feel like I failed anyway.

Working on an EP~!
Posted 14 years agoIn case you haven't seen my latest submission, I'll fill you in on the details here.
The Closet is a rock duo from Carson City, Nevada, consisting of a friend and I. The name comes from the fact that all of our songs have, up to this point, been recorded inside my closet.
We're releasing an EP on 14 May, 2011, consisting of four songs--three of which are original, plus a cover. It's going to be sold directly from us ON DISC ONLY, and it should cost about $3 or so, plus the cost of shipping. Each disc and case will be hand-made and home-burned, so all of them will be unique in their own little ways. The entire EP will also *probably* be put up on FA for free, as well, if you'd prefer to hear it first, or if you just plain don't want to buy a copy.
We've got everything recorded at this point--I'm simply giving myself time to finish mixing and mastering, and to figure out the logistics of selling and shipping the discs.
Even if you're not interested in buying our EP, I'd really appreciate it if you'd spread the word along as much as you can. I know it isn't much incentive, but if you do, I'll be sure to give your name a spot in the liner notes. <3

I'm trying my best; please don't hold it against me.

So, I need money.
Posted 14 years agoNo, I'm not going to tell you some sob story about how I'm dying and I need to pay for surgery, or how my pet needs some medication or whatever.
Plain and simple, I need a few new microphones, and if it's possible a few musical instruments (unspecific, since I like to shop around for unique/toy instruments or things that can be used as instruments) to help out with an album I'm working on for something called the Senior Project. Basically, if I don't finish it, I don't get to graduate high school. Awesome, right?
Thing is, I've found that I don't really like asking for straight up donations. So, what would you all like in exchange for them?
I was thinking about boxing up some CDs of a collection of four "indie" rock songs I recorded entirely by myself over the course of a week. For those of you who won't donate, I'll still upload them to FA, and you can download them for free--but this is mostly for people who enjoy owning physical discs/people who actually want to help me out (like that's going to happen.) They'd likely be branded CD-Rs decorated with Sharpie and packaged in a simple, handmade, handdrawn CD sleeve.
If it helps, the tracklisting is as follows:
President of What? - Death Cab For Cutie
Oxford Comma - Vampire Weekend
Mary Lynn - Michael Penn
Satan Gave Me A Taco - Beck
I dunno though, a CD of covers seems like an awfully lame cop-out.
None of you are going to give me money though, so I'm not even sure why I'm bothering. It's cool though. I'm not going to stop keeping my hopes up.

And you know what's cool about this one? I'm actually using it, unlike my Wordpress thinger. Check it out! :3 I use it far more often than this journal, as you might be able to tell, mostly because it feels like I have less of an obligation to type long, drawn out posts on Tumblr than I do here, dA, Wordpress, etc.
So yeah. Follow me and stuff so I can have a sense of adequacy ; ;

BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW FURRY DRAMA
Oh hey by the way
Posted 15 years agoThis has actually been up for a little while now, but I'd forgotten to tell you guys about it. I was recently featured on Kurrel The Raven's Furry x 60 3, a rapid-fire compilation of one minute long pieces of music, poetry, and sound art by furries. You should definitely check it out, and listen for me at 17:00, 22:00, 48:00!
http://ravenspiral.com/furryx60/
According to the liner notes, my genre is "indie." That's cool, haha, and it is fitting, in the most basic sense of the word, but I'm not sure if that would have been the first thing I would have labeled myself as. Indie isn't so much being independent anymore as much as it is a particular sound, and I'm not sure if I have that. Oh well. <3
Speaking of music, Here There Be Tygers, the prog-rock duo I was a part of is no more. But it's okay, since my drummer and I have started working on another project: a nu-jazz combo. This time we've actually got four members, plus plans for guest artists in the future. I still play bass, but Connore, previously the drummer and primary lyricist, is now joining us on his native instrument, trumpet. He's got an electric pickup mute, which lets him plug into this classic Brit combo amp. It's pretty legit. Also joining us are a new drummer and a synth player. The goal of the combo is to eventually become a completely improvisational group, according to Connore, but I personally think that we should aim for being mostly improvisational--You've got to have some recognisable themes associated with yourself if you want to be a successful band, after all. We're fleshing out plans for a new album, for which I will be the sound engineer. I plan on completely overhauling the setup in our "studio," allowing for what I hope to be 8-10 microphones and a desktop computer rather than my laptop, which is lacking in the processing power to handle heavy recording. Don't worry though; it'll still be the most unlegit recording setup ever. Chances are the microphones will be Rock Band mics, and the computer will be running Apple GarageBand. Keep an eye out for it; it should be coming out sometime this summer.
Check it out I totally got Team Fortress 2. I'm an all right sniper. We should play sometime.
Hey, do you guys remember my blog? I'm not sure what to do about it--I think spelling "Curiosity" in the URL would have been really important, though, haha. So likely I'm going to be abandoning that particular blog, but I'd like to ask your opinion on starting another one. The thing about Curiosity Anonymous was that while it got a pretty consistent 1 view per day, it received a very little amount of comments (much like my FA and DA! <3 Sometimes I wonder why I even bother anymore) and I'm really not sure if I want to commit to taking the time and effort into writing entries and the like if no one is going to weigh in, or if I'm only going to get one person reading it. I know this is wasted on you because none of you comment, but what do you think I should do? The reason I would be keeping a blog would be for a slightly more professional place to keep my music, art, and other such things.
That's about it.
Go on and ignore me.
