I'm friends with a guy on there, and they reached out to me at the last minute a bit due to complications preventing one of the other guests from making a show. I was asked and accepted to step in and lend a hand.
I geeked out on scientific stuff, talked about the new covid-19 mRNA vaccine, explained how it worked, and then had fun talking about how new biotechnology stuff can create real life furries!
I had an absolute blast doing this, totally didn't expect to ever be featured on a podcast like this, but I loved it and would love to do it again! On my obsession with Judy Hopps
General | Posted 4 years agoSo, I had a bit of a breakthrough in therapy regarding my love of Zootopia, and coincidentally the topic was brought up a few time at a friend's boardgame night (you guys know who you are :p ) I figured I might as well try and expound my thoughts out here. It'll be an easy way to refer people to what I think, and I might stumble upon a new discovery while I'm at it, who knows!
SO, without further ado, here's a snapshot into my obsession with Judy Hopps and Zootopia.
Zootopia came out in March 4th, 2016. I don't remember when I first saw it, but in Jan 2016, my then-girlfriend and I had moved in. I had been running out of money and started taking student loans to pay for the last years. My ex had graduated and was studying to work as an emergency dispatcher (answering 911 calls and dispatching police/fire/ambulance as needed). She was being paid to study and become a dispatcher, but it was a highly stressful time for her, and we weren't rolling in money.
On my end I was probably burned out from trying to help her cope with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. We had been ok while we lived in my small bachelors (I lived there, she would spend time there to avoid spending time at home), but when we moved to the new place I didn't have money, so we agreed that she would pay the first year's rent and I would pay the following year's rent after I graduated and got a job.
When we moved in to the new place however, the dynamic between us changed a lot, and not for the better. It went from "my place, my rules" at the bachelors apartment, to "our place, her rules". Things had already been bad with me trying to be a therapist for her and failing, but it's like it went from me simply not being good enough, to me actively being a failure and needing to be punished for it. From the moment we moved in, it was her way or the highway, and if it wasn't up to her exacting standards it was a failure. Nothing less than perfection would be tolerated, I would be berated for my mistakes, and she never forgot and never forgave.
Every single mistake I made from that point on was compounded by every other mistake I had ever made, all combining into an ever-growing mountain of errors, mistakes, and failures. She wasn't just upset at this one thing that happened, but at that and every other thing I had ever done wrong. It got worse and worse, until I was virtually paralyzed with anxiety. I would be punished for doing anything wrong, so I would stop doing anything. If she wasn't there to tell me exactly how to do what she wanted me to do it, I wouldn't do it because it would never be good enough. That was the only point in time when the abuse was not just emotional, mental, and verbal, but also once turned physical.
She also felt she was owed time, and failing to give her the time she was owed meant I was disrespecting her or something. I did my best to establish with her a timeline that she would agree to, that I would go snow tubing with a friend for their birthday, with a clear timetable for the events, and that I would call her if there ever were any changes. Every single step of the way, I called her to inform her of changes, like getting cake to eat after snowtubing, and staying at their place a bit later to talk afterwards. We had agreed that if I called her to inform her of the change in plans, it would be ok.
It turns out it was not ok. She didn't want to be informed of when the timeline would be changed, she just didn't want the timeline to be changed at all. She felt I only needed X amount of time with friends, and anytime I spent longer than that I was doing it to disobey her and deliberately disrespect her. The mountain of shit I faced every single time I was 'late', even if it wasn't my fault at all, simply made me realize it wasn't worth facing that much shit to go out.
So I stopped going out. I stopped seeing my friends.
At one point she got so mad she tried to smash my school laptop with a hammer, and I had to slide it under a couch and physically prevent her from trying to reach it. She never tried to hit me with the hammer, but the laptop contained all my notes for classes, and I would need it to study and graduate. From that point onwards I didn't feel like my belongings were safe, that she could at any point smash my computer or my PS3 or anything else that belonged to me if she got mad enough.
For some reason she would always wait for bedtime to pick fights. I tried to talk to her during dinner time, during the day, or any time that we could have a conversation, but it didn't usually lead to much. I was walking on eggshells already to not upset her, and trying to engage during the day didn't work, so she'd pick bedtime to start arguing. No matter what was going on, what I did, or what I said, I was always wrong, and even if I was right I could have done it better, or faster, or been more mindful of how stressed she was with work. A few times she got mad enough to push me out of our bedroom and demand that I sleep on the couch in the living room. So I did.
At the very least the couch was very comfortable, but invariably, within an hour of her having lost her shit and demand I sleep on the couch, she's come back to me, apologize, say she was sorry, and ask me to come back to bed with her. I don't know what kind of weird thoughts she had, or why she'd kick me out in the first place if she'd just regret it less than an hour later, but it must have happened a dozen times in that first winter. A few times she even demanded I get out of the house, so I packed my clothes, my laptop (I didn't feel safe leaving it in the appartment, the PS3 I could afford to lose but not the laptop with my notes) and forced me to wait outside at the bus stop, to take a bus going to my friend's place.
Again, she'd invite me inside within 30 minutes of making me wait out in the cold, but one time she didn't. It was so late the busses weren't running anymore so I called my mother to come and pick me up.
She did, and I spent 2 days at my parent's place. My ex called me back during the night, in tears, saying the anxiety was killing her and she needed me back right that instant. I didn't want to and tried to tell her to come back later in the day at least when the streets were clearer, but she insisted on coming right that minute to pick me up. I'm still horribly ashamed of it, but I packed my stuff, left a note for my parents saying my partner came to pick me up, and went back with her to our place.
So, that should appropriately set the stage for Zootopia.
I had stopped following the furry fandom while I was in university. I was trying out some new stuff, discovering what I liked, making new friends, and just had other things to do. By March 2016 however I had no energy left for anything, not even studying. I didn't really find much of anything that was fun or pleasant or happy, mostly just a distraction from life before I went back to studying, walking around on eggshells, and getting berated.
When I saw Zootopia, it brought back all my memories of the furry fandom, of the fun I had thinking up and writing the transformation stories I wrote, and about the people I had talked to. It reawakened my furry passion, and the story was just so happy, so hopeful, so bright, it was literally the single and only thing that could actually make me happy for that entire year.
I fell in love with just about every aspect of the show. I loved the architecture, I loved how they built a city for mammals of all shapes and sizes, I loved all the jokes and the easter eggs and all the million and one details in the background. I threw myself into the Zootopia subreddit and the fanfictions with a passion. I adored everything about the setting and I just could not get enough of it.
I spent a long time reading romance fanfictions about Nick and Judy, how they discovered feelings for one another, how they admitted those feelings, and how they dealt with the whole situation. I was so attracted to that pure wholesome love, I couldn't get enough of it, and it almost always made me cry. At the time it was a rather bittersweet thing, it let some of my pain out and I could cry, and some of it was definitely tears of happiness at the joy the two were experiencing.
I had a recent breakthrough in therapy this last session, and I realized what got me so emotionally hooked with Judy. Every single time I saw the movie, I would always cry without fail every single time she went looking for Nick and apologized for her actions. Even today, whether it's the movie, a fanfiction of that scene, or this song, specifically at the 2 minute 14 mark, even today I still cry.
She broke my heart. I wish it didn't happen, but then she found me and said:
"I know that I was wrong, it's fine if you hate me. You were right all along, I'm really just a dumb bunny"
(yes, I am crying as I write this. Oh bittersweet tears).
She came back and apologized. Nick was there, ready to forgive her, if only she apologized, and then they went on to become much closer.
I never got that apology.
I was ready and willing to forgive her, every step of the way. I loved her and I wanted to do my best for her. But she never apologized, and that's the one thing I really wanted. Anytime she 'apologized' it's because she had kicked me out, and it was causing her anguish. She apologized because she wanted me to be there to make her feel better.
But she never apologized for making me feel like utter shit. Never once apologized for the language she used, and the more I argued back about it, the more I tried to get her to change the way she spoke to be less hurtful, the more she dug her heels in and threw it back in my face.
So I stopped hoping. I stopped trying. I stopped caring, and tried to stop feeling.
So that's why I'm somewhat obsessed with Judy Hopps. It's not because it's a fetish thing, or a sexual attraction thing. It's that she is the kind of partner I wish I had, the kind of person who would have treasured my feelings and tried to make things right, rather than keep stomping my heard into thousands of pieces. I love what she represents and the kind of relationship I so desperately wanted for myself.
So yes I absolutely love adult art of Judy as well, but it's not that I see myself, either as my human self or my fursona with her. To me Judy will always only belong to Nick, and he will always only belong to her. I have no interest in inserting myself in there anywhere. If Judy is naked, it is for Nick's benefit, not mine. I see her through that lens, through that perspective. What can I say, I'm a straight guy, and I love the female form. I'm not salivating over Nick because I don't swing that way ;)
I'm not going to say I don't enjoy the adult art because I do. However, it's not in a self-inserting way where I would want to be with her, because I don't belong with her and she doesn't belong with me. I so deeply want a relationship with someone the way she has a 'relationship' with Nick, with trust, joking back and forth, forgiveness, and a willingness to stand up for one another.
I never got that apology from her, never got that forgiveness from her, and even though we broke up in 2017 it's still eating at me. I healed a lot, picked up the broken pieces of me and glued them back together as best I could, and it doesn't hurt nearly as much as it used to, but it's still there, and I'm still healing from it on my own.
If I had a relationship like Judy and Nick's, I would never have been hurt that badly, and my ex would have asked for forgiveness and actively worked to make things better, not worse.
So yeah. That's why I'm still stuck/hooked/obsessed with Judy. I hope to find someone like her one day, someone I can share my heart with and not have to worry that they'll smash it to pieces, someone who I can trust will come back and sincerely apologize for hurting me, so that we can heal together and grow closer together.

A Zootopia fanfic a week!

Been a rreeeeaaaalllllyyyyyy long time. So, long things short, I had picked up a ton of unhelpful mental habits after having gone through the abusive relationship with my ex, which lead to lots of procrastination and an excessive focus on negative stuff, and how to avoid it. This has left me with rather little to make life happier and better, and I hadn't really tried to make things "better" so much as "less bad".
To try and combat that I'm changing a lot of habits.To cut down time procrastinating on reddit and arguing with strangers, I'm making myself write one short Zootopia fanfic a week, to be published every Friday. I had kind of forgotten I wanted to post on here as well, which is why today I'm a day late haha.
This focus on creating new and positive stuff, as well as interacting with people regarding this positive stuff which I like, will hopefully help me kickstart back my creative drive, and help me be happier.
The series I'm starting will be called Paws and Claws and Teeth and Tails, and will be a series of random stories as they come to mind. I had wanted to write a bit story with great plot, character development, and all the bells and whistles, but my anxiety and fear of failure kept me from writing it, and I didn't want to write random short stories in case that would "steal" an idea I could have used in the main story.
Well, enough of that, I'm just throwing myself at writing and trying to get things out again. I'm changing my habits to be more in line with the kind of person I want to be.

It’s taking me a much longer time to write out the journals, and for that I apologize. First and foremost, I’m busy!
I find that it’s a good thing, actually. I know that even 4 months ago, I would not be able to be this busy and do so much every day without having a nervous breakdown.
Part of what’s keeping me busy is babysitting, helping an old lady with landscaping/gardening/moving heavy stuff around/whatever she needs help with.
And this week in particular, I’ve also gone to a job interview with Immigration Canada! I think the interview went really well, and hopefully within 2 weeks I’ll get a call saying that I got the job!
It’s only a 4-month contract, but still, hopefully that’s enough of a foot in the door to get myself a permanent position, and from there eventually move to a more science-related job, or a more mental health related job.
It’s weird in a way, but spending years being a therapist for someone with serious suicidal thoughts and all that seems to have helped me be a good listener and pseudo-therapist. I’ve been spending a lot of time online and on Discord talking to people and helping them deal with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. I’d like to be able to put those talents to good use helping people.
And finally, the last reason why this last journal in particular came so late is because it was extremely difficult to write. Writing about it is reliving it a little, and I gave myself an anxiety attack by accident :/ It’s tough, but it’s something I think I have to do, to be able to wrap things up and finally move on with my life.

-Ummm, good personality? People tell me I'm strong, so I guess I am. I never think I'm that good a person, it's like I'm normal,but I can't help but notice how other people seem to be below optimal. I mean, there are so many people at school who don't realize the only thing a child needs to feel important is to have an adult's attention. I mean, it's obvious to me, and I do it, and people tell me how good I am, but I'm not, it's just others who are less good in comparison.
-Blergh, I really don't like to brag.
9. Alright, now what about something you dislike about yourself?
-Weight recently (could afford to lose 5-10 pounds I think), professional procrastinator (well, I'm not getting PAID for it, but you know what I mean), lack of focus and motivation to write both to you guys and on Airbourne/Agrulia.
10. What are some things your friends noticed about you when they first met you?
-Umm, I listen to them?

-Not really. The only drinks I like are shooters and sugary drinks à la cooler. At that point, I just wonder why not remove the alcohol and enjoy the drink like that?

-Deep waters, the dark, zombies.
15. What are your dreams/goals?

-Oyoyoyoy, that's a toughie. I had a real soft spot for Spyke in the X-men evolution comic, but I also really love earthbending from Avatar Last Airbender. Telekinesis would be cool, but the ability to I dunno, read a person's heart and know what would make them happy would also be a freaking awesome RL power :)

-...Dozens? I'd say my all-time top favourite would be the Avatar Last Airbender series though.
23. Least favorite food?
-Mostly veggies of some kind or another (green/yellow/red peppers and the sweet non-spicy kind, onions, that kind of stuff, I'm fine with all the rest)

-I really wouldn't know. The pragmatic in me would want to give it to a homeless person, because he'll need it more than me.

Oyyy, starting right off the bat with a tough one... Hmm I guess shortly after finding furry out, and I started thinking "You know, what would it be like to actually be one?" And from that moment I was hooked!

I'd say the werewolves in Underworld 3 Rise of the Lycans, but it's not the kind of TF I personally would love to see. A sort of furry zombie apocalypse would be my thing really (no, regular furries, not zombie furries. Also, a slow disease, so know you're infected, you know you're turning into one of them, and there's nothing you can do about it. Of course, being a furry would turn out to be much less horrible than everybody thought...) (I talk too much)
10: Do you enjoy the idea of creature to creature transformation?
Only from Homo Sapiens to Homo X (X being ursid, canid, felinidae, whatever). From bears to moose? Not really...
11: Going with 10, is there any kind of creature to creature TF that you would outright hate?
A wolf to a dragon, a dragon to a wolf, a wolf into a dragonwolf, or a dragon into a wolfdragon, and any mix thereof.
12: What kinds of TF do you enjoy the most (Like animal/anthro/muscle ect)?
Well I'm kinda torn. Feral is a bit of a no for me, you lose too much. Anthro however is too much "human with tail/fur/ears" tacked on. I suppose I could say I prefer 'true' furry then, a mix between anthro and feral. As in bipedal and quadrupedal are both comfortable.
13: What do you like most about TF?
The change in the person to whom it is happening to, and how society/others react to it. The best TF stories do not rely solely on the TF to make a good story. Tales of the average joe TFing into his favourite fursona, says YAY! and lives on happily ever after with everyone else being perfectly fine with it are crap in my opinion. Little effort and little forethought are put into those. The tales I adore best are ones exploring the human psyche through the TF phenomenon. Tales like
poetigress 's Susan's Ark or Refugee and Stick and Bones by Phil Geusz are the reason why I love TF so much.
14: Why is question 14 so confusing?
Because the cake is a lie!
15. What gender do enjoy seeing TF’d?
Either. I don't particularly like herms.
16. What is your sexual preference involving TF?
As little sex as possible.
17. Is TF a sexual pleasure or does it mean something else to you?
It means a LOT! But not in a sexual manner.
18 Do you enjoy permanent TF’s, changing only once, or back and forth?
I find changing back and forth sort of takes the novelty off the TF, but it can be very good if it's well done. I don't really know what's the difference between only once and permanent, but I'll say it can cause a LOT more interesting situations. Also, more realistic than the more often than not back and forth TF.
19. Do you believe TF is real?
No. Studying in biochemistry I also know the TF in the way we would like it, is impossible. But that doesn't stop me from dreaming :p
20. Is so, would it be a magical process, scientific process, or something else? Explain.
Well, science could provide artificial TF in the form of gene therapy and skin grafts and such, but that's not usually what people think about TF.
Soto have the perfect TF, it'd have to be magic. But what are the odds?

I'd say the werewolves in Underworld 3 Rise of the Lycans, but it's not the kind of TF I personally would love to see. A sort of furry zombie apocalypse would be my thing really (no, regular furries, not zombie furries. Also, a slow disease, so know you're infected, you know you're turning into one of them, and there's nothing you can do about it. Of course, being a furry would turn out to be much less horrible than everybody thought...) (I talk too much)

Only from Homo Sapiens to Homo X (X being ursid, canid, felinidae, whatever). From bears to moose? Not really...
11: Going with 10, is there any kind of creature to creature TF that you would outright hate?
A wolf to a dragon, a dragon to a wolf, a wolf into a dragonwolf, or a dragon into a wolfdragon, and any mix thereof.
12: What kinds of TF do you enjoy the most (Like animal/anthro/muscle ect)?
Well I'm kinda torn. Feral is a bit of a no for me, you lose too much. Anthro however is too much "human with tail/fur/ears" tacked on. I suppose I could say I prefer 'true' furry then, a mix between anthro and feral. As in bipedal and quadrupedal are both comfortable.
13: What do you like most about TF?
The change in the person to whom it is happening to, and how society/others react to it. The best TF stories do not rely solely on the TF to make a good story. Tales of the average joe TFing into his favourite fursona, says YAY! and lives on happily ever after with everyone else being perfectly fine with it are crap in my opinion. Little effort and little forethought are put into those. The tales I adore best are ones exploring the human psyche through the TF phenomenon. Tales like
poetigress 's Susan's Ark or Refugee and Stick and Bones by Phil Geusz are the reason why I love TF so much.14: Why is question 14 so confusing?

I find changing back and forth sort of takes the novelty off the TF, but it can be very good if it's well done. I don't really know what's the difference between only once and permanent, but I'll say it can cause a LOT more interesting situations. Also, more realistic than the more often than not back and forth TF.
19. Do you believe TF is real?
No. Studying in biochemistry I also know the TF in the way we would like it, is impossible. But that doesn't stop me from dreaming :p
20. Is so, would it be a magical process, scientific process, or something else? Explain.
Well, science could provide artificial TF in the form of gene therapy and skin grafts and such, but that's not usually what people think about TF.
Soto have the perfect TF, it'd have to be magic. But what are the odds?

They gave up, so I pushed the drawers out. Their screams were SO worth it!

94) Your scariest moment: A camping area in Florida. There were so many spiders, some as big as my hand, that it looked like there was cotton candy all over the trees. I was horrified.

I had pushed out the drawers under my bed, hidden behind them, and pulled the drawer back in place. I was the last one to be found, and everybody was piled on my bed asking where I was. They gave up, so I pushed the drawers out. Their screams were SO worth it!

94) Your scariest moment: A camping area in Florida. There were so many spiders, some as big as my hand, that it looked like there was cotton candy all over the trees. I was horrified.

Whee! Vacations, returning, absenteeism and laboratories!
General | Posted 14 years agoWow. That pretty much sums it all up. Wow.
So, I guess an apology is in order, seeing as I haven't really been here for like over a month, so I'm sorry. At least let me tell you why :p
Well, a month ago, I left Canada to go on vacation with the family. We rented a house in the south of France, at St-Cyr sur mer, east of Marseilles. The weather was gorgeous, the house was beautiful, we had a pool and a beach, it was like a dream. Als, the rumors are true, yes, some ladies go topless to the beach. Not a lot, but still enough to be noticeable.
After that, we had a week-long bike trip, going from Avignon to Arles passing by Les Baux de Provence. Les Baux was on top of a mountain, btw. Was not easy, especially since the rented bikes weren't designed to be able to go uphill , and the fact we left around noon to be caught on the mountain at 2PM ish, when it was 38°C outside. Hot! But it was worth it, there was an actual medieval castle with scaled down replicas of catapults and a real honest to god Trebuchet, which I helped to fire!
Then it was to St-Maries de la mer, a beautiful little village smack dab in the center of a huge swamp, home to the famous Camargue white horses (I went horseriding on the beach! :D) and from there to St-Gilles.
From St-Gilles, we went to Nïmes. It was a big and beautiful city, and there was a roman arena at the heart of the city. Sadly, the gladiatoral combats started the next day, and we had to leave, but the sight of the small coliseum was very impressive.
After that, we arrived at Remoulins, a cute little medieval village. From there we visited the Pont du Gard. It is simply amazing. It's a huge bridge made entirely out of stone. No mortar, no wood, no nails, no nothing. Just stones and gravity. The romans built it around 50 AD, and it's been standing since. It was part of a long aqueduc system going from Nïmes, where there was a spring of excelent water, over 30 kms long, to Arles, where they made hot baths. And the best part is, this system was built 2000 years ago, with zero advancd technlogy, only stone, hammers and chisels. And yet the aqueduc carried water 35 kms away with a difference in elevation only of something like 10 metres! Over gullies and ridges, around mountains, the romans carried water with an incredily amazing and advanced system! And then the empire crumbled, the Church took over, and the "barbarians" destroyed most of the aqueduc. But whatever.
After Remoulins, we went back to Avignon, where we visited the famous bridge of Avignon.
My father had to return to Canada, so we ewnt back to Marseilles, where he and his mom (yes, we took my grandma on the voyage) returned home while my mom, my sister and me flew to Brussels, and then to Holland to visit family!
We visited the family, tasted a Stroopwaffel McFlurry, ate fresh stroopwaffels, visited more family, all in all had a great time, even though it was mildly cold and rainy.
Also, I took a train from Arnhem to Eindhoven, where I went to the famous Technische Universiteit Eindhoven! My parents thought it was an official visit to see a symposium on cardiac diseases, but in reality, I met up with our very own dutch werefox, Pierrot90!!! Would you believe that? I had a blast! We visited the university a bit, then we went around town, took a beer (well, I took a coke, but I should have taken the same thing as him. You know, those coffee shops in Holland where they don't sell coffee? Very popular in Amsterdam? Hint hint?
And in the middle of it all, Pierrot90 took me to the mail outlet to open his package from Sofawolf press! I go to Holland to meet my first furry, who also goes to take a batch of furry litterature! Awesome! Pierrot got the Nordguard comic book, along with a patch which he'll sew on a jacket or something (You'll have to take pictures and show off your tail too! ) and the first book of the New Tibet furry series, Common and Precious. Is that eveything? Well, we'll be waiting for your reviews Pierrot, so you had better read those books and enjoy them!
And then Pierrot showed me the traditionnal student supper, costing approximately 5 euros per erson to make a huge load of spaghetti. It was delicious! And I still can't get over the fact you can buy a teeny weeny can of tomato paste, so small it fits in our hand, for 2 eurocents. I mean it's so small and cheap! OMG!!! :p
We talked about furry, I read a bit from his Werewolf's Guide to Life: A Manual for the Newly Bitten, Pierrot was kind enough to give me a beer :p Which incidentally tastes MUCH better than in North America, as in not so-disgusting-it-will-make-you-spit-it-out bad. He showed me World of Tanks, which looks like a really awesome game, we watched a show of Big Bang Theory (Bazinga! ) but sadly all good things come to an end.
My visit in Eindhoven was the highlight of my stay in Holland (well, maybe apart from the time I locked myself out of the house for an hour and a half. Why do Dutch people have no door handles on the outside?) but soon I had to return. We visited family in Harlem, where I went clothes shopping for the FIRST TIME to buy me stylish clothes! In Canada, there's mostly skater, snowboarder or rapper styles, and that's pretty much it. In Holland, there was so much more! I got myself classy clothes I actually liked! One's a secretly furry T-shirt, says "I like to live life on the wold side" with people who'se heads are replaced with the heads of great felines
I also bought myself a necklace with a gecko sign on it, part of the furry part of my vacation in Europe, and coming back I sorta told my mom I liked furries. I guess it was kinda obvious since I have the whole Anima+ manga and "Furries! The Best of Anthropomorphic Fiction" anthology, but still, that might mean I could openly go on FA now!
So, then we went back to Canada, there was a funny accident at the Brussels airport (now we know why europeans joke about the Belgians so much! :p), there were like 8 kids under 6 in the airplane, one of which just wouldn' shut the hell up! Kept screaming like a fraking jaguar with a broken paw all the 8 hours from Europe to Canada.
So we arrive, and I must hurry up to catch up with my volunteering in a lab, and my martial arts club is preparing for my friend's senior black belt testing (I'm still junior, but I'll be senior before the end of the year), which means I must come in 3 times a week at minimum to catch up myself, and after that university starts again!
So bleh, here you go, a big fat unedited journal to say all of what I've been up to. Also, the rewrite of Ch.1 is going along nicely, I have it all figured out (mostly :p) I just need to sit down and WRITE dammit!
So yeah, Imma back! Gonna try to go through the 150 messages now. Talk to y'all soon!
So, I guess an apology is in order, seeing as I haven't really been here for like over a month, so I'm sorry. At least let me tell you why :p
Well, a month ago, I left Canada to go on vacation with the family. We rented a house in the south of France, at St-Cyr sur mer, east of Marseilles. The weather was gorgeous, the house was beautiful, we had a pool and a beach, it was like a dream. Als, the rumors are true, yes, some ladies go topless to the beach. Not a lot, but still enough to be noticeable.
After that, we had a week-long bike trip, going from Avignon to Arles passing by Les Baux de Provence. Les Baux was on top of a mountain, btw. Was not easy, especially since the rented bikes weren't designed to be able to go uphill , and the fact we left around noon to be caught on the mountain at 2PM ish, when it was 38°C outside. Hot! But it was worth it, there was an actual medieval castle with scaled down replicas of catapults and a real honest to god Trebuchet, which I helped to fire!
Then it was to St-Maries de la mer, a beautiful little village smack dab in the center of a huge swamp, home to the famous Camargue white horses (I went horseriding on the beach! :D) and from there to St-Gilles.
From St-Gilles, we went to Nïmes. It was a big and beautiful city, and there was a roman arena at the heart of the city. Sadly, the gladiatoral combats started the next day, and we had to leave, but the sight of the small coliseum was very impressive.
After that, we arrived at Remoulins, a cute little medieval village. From there we visited the Pont du Gard. It is simply amazing. It's a huge bridge made entirely out of stone. No mortar, no wood, no nails, no nothing. Just stones and gravity. The romans built it around 50 AD, and it's been standing since. It was part of a long aqueduc system going from Nïmes, where there was a spring of excelent water, over 30 kms long, to Arles, where they made hot baths. And the best part is, this system was built 2000 years ago, with zero advancd technlogy, only stone, hammers and chisels. And yet the aqueduc carried water 35 kms away with a difference in elevation only of something like 10 metres! Over gullies and ridges, around mountains, the romans carried water with an incredily amazing and advanced system! And then the empire crumbled, the Church took over, and the "barbarians" destroyed most of the aqueduc. But whatever.
After Remoulins, we went back to Avignon, where we visited the famous bridge of Avignon.
My father had to return to Canada, so we ewnt back to Marseilles, where he and his mom (yes, we took my grandma on the voyage) returned home while my mom, my sister and me flew to Brussels, and then to Holland to visit family!
We visited the family, tasted a Stroopwaffel McFlurry, ate fresh stroopwaffels, visited more family, all in all had a great time, even though it was mildly cold and rainy.
Also, I took a train from Arnhem to Eindhoven, where I went to the famous Technische Universiteit Eindhoven! My parents thought it was an official visit to see a symposium on cardiac diseases, but in reality, I met up with our very own dutch werefox,

General | Posted 14 years agoSo hello again people, I'm starting to get used to having a life back, little by little, but I can't do too much at a time or I'll get an overdose :p
This is probably going to be long so I'll sort of do a table of contents:
-University is over
-I had gone missing for a year to hide and study (not)
-I had a s**tload of comments, but now they're all down, so I hope to get some more :p
-Still have 22 submissions to go through
-and journals. There is 88 of them, I will not answer them, unless the voices in my head tell me so But yeah, I will read them, so as to stay more or less up to date
-also, I have bought a 600-page book called animal. Guess what? TF writing tiem!
So yeah. University is over. Man, it went so fast. I got a girlfriend, I started to do voluntary work in a research lab, I got my ass handed to me in 1st semester (something like a C average)(not good) and did much better the second semester (B+ average)(very good!)(unless my last unknown grade, math, sinks me down).
And now it is vacation tiem! I need to balance work (which I haven't started yet) with lab work with home chores with personal life (girlfriend 50 kms away ) with more personal life (you guys!). So, wish me luck writing a lot during summer!
So, I missed most of the furry stuff for half a year, but man does it feel good to be back! I had almost forgotten the insanity, the laughs, and just the general easygoing attitude. So, as a result of my extended leave, I have missed all the latest furry news. If people would be so kind as to inform me of stuff I NEED to know, such as journals, new furiends to meet (), submissions I should read/correct for you guys, normal people freaking out over furries, when the furry revoluçiòn is scheduled to begin, how far along we are in our secret research tomake a furry TF virus, and when would be a good time for me to kidnap Grey, please tell me :p
I haz answereded them all. I now have free time. But if I messed a omment convo, or you want to start a new one, feel free to do so!

Grey, I shall practice my necromancer dark arts and try to bring our photoshoot convo back from the undead abyssmal depths of the forgotten corners of internet :p

My most recent pride, the book ANINAL, from the Smithsonian Institute, is filled with 600 full-colour pages packed absolutely full of wonderful pictures and explanations to hundreds, maybe thousands, of species. In all things vertebrate tetrapod, this book is just AWESOME!!! Now, you can expect even more funky science unk inmy submissions, as well as making stories for animals you've never even dreamed of! People like the pangolin because it is rare, but now it's so popular everybody knows it! People know of the lemur thanks to Madagascar, but did you know there was a flying lemur? Would you like to become a kangaroo mouse? Or a Lesser Egyptian jerboa? Or what say you a violaceous trogon? Perhaps a Solomon Islands tree skink would suit you more? Waaaah, there is so much!!! I so excited now! I really want to write stories with random species nobody ever heard about!!!
So yeah. This is what has been going on mostly since, well, a long time :p So yeah, enjoy!

So, this is what's been going on lately.
First off, SSSSTTTTUUUUUDDDDDDYYYYYIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGG!!! I made 3 out of 4 midterms, still have physics left to study (about half way through on friday, exam on tuesday DX ) and a geography test on monday possibly, for which I am not ready :(
I freely admit I have never studied throughout high school. The most I have ever done was quickly reread my notes (skimming would come closer to it) and it was enough to get 80%, 85, even 90%. I did the same in university for the first semester. 2 words: BAD IDEA! I got a 60% average or so, so my 3,000$ admission scholarship is automatically gone for next year :( I might get it back, but it's going to take a lot of effort! So yeah, now to compensate, I'm actually trying to study, although I'm not too good at it.
Also, another reason I have fewer free time is a possible new job! The rumour is true, I might have a summer job! And I will be helping a professor do actual research in an actual scientific lab!!! :D I so happy!!! But on the other hand, I haz not much free time too...
And that's about it. That and my girlfriend :p
Oh, and I find the creationist/evolutionist debate fascinating :p To those whom it may concern :p

As such, I pray you, all who can, please spare some money, some time, some support for him. Go and help him out. If you have friends in or near North Carolina's Research Triangle, somewhere near Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, with whom you think he might be able to stay for a while, please give them a shout. If not, please post this in your journal. Feathertail is the one person I think doesn't deserve to go back to his family.
For those of you who might wonder what the heck I mean by that last sentence, hear me out. If you haven't read An Enemy to God and Endure to the End, go do so. First off, they are absolutely fantastic stories. Second, it's based on a real story. His.
His family is mormon. In Endure to the End, the main character not only considered suicide, but almost attempted it. Her family was mormon too, and she had to try and hide being lesbian and furry from them, and it was hell. Imagine being constantly told, always reminded, never allowed to forget that you were throwing away god's gift to humanity, that your actions were a disgrace to him, that the flames of eternal torment awaited all sinners, and if you didn't change, if you didn't put out of your mind those impure thoughts, you'd end up there too.
Feathertail wrote a journal on Dreamwidth, explaining the only thing that had prevented him from committing suicide was that he was too tired to go to the kitchen, grab a knife, and end it all. His family's intolerance almost drove him to suicide.
And soon, by the end of April at the latest, he may be forced to return to them. Please, don't let that happen. He doesn't deserve that, and I fear what might happen if he does have to return.

General | Posted 15 years agoYup, I'm still here. Although just barely. So. a few things.
1) University is a lot more work than I though! I used to have a 90% or so average in high school, and that dropped to a B, or a 6, or 60 or 70%, I don't know anymore! They have such a messed up system! So anyways, lesson learned, I have to actually STUDY to get good grades. Which is accounting for the no-free-time-ness.
2) Also, naughty me decided to go pester the pesky creationists instead of spending time with you guys. I'm sorry! I now realise the mistake of hoping to have an intelligent conversation with a pseudo-scientific religious bunch.
3) Teh story. It is not going forward a lot. So far, I have the entire thing plotted out in my head. I just need time to write. And time to do silly stuff, like play videogames, talk with friends a bit, socialize, be with my girlfriend, etc etc etc. So yeah. BUT!!! I have 1 entire week off in February, so you can expect a huge jump forward there!!!
4) I thought I could save them, but I currently have 53 messages I haven't deleted. Those were the old convos, and some are almost a month old. It is official, I will delete them. Unless there's something really important to be said, I'll just delete. I don't have the time, sorry.
5) Notes. I have read them all. But I may have forgotten to remember to respond to them. So far, I know I have 2 from Grey, and 1 from Tielhawk, which I will answer, soon. If I forgot you, please tell me.

1) University is a lot more work than I though! I used to have a 90% or so average in high school, and that dropped to a B, or a 6, or 60 or 70%, I don't know anymore! They have such a messed up system! So anyways, lesson learned, I have to actually STUDY to get good grades. Which is accounting for the no-free-time-ness.
2) Also, naughty me decided to go pester the pesky creationists instead of spending time with you guys. I'm sorry! I now realise the mistake of hoping to have an intelligent conversation with a pseudo-scientific religious bunch.
3) Teh story. It is not going forward a lot. So far, I have the entire thing plotted out in my head. I just need time to write. And time to do silly stuff, like play videogames, talk with friends a bit, socialize, be with my girlfriend, etc etc etc. So yeah. BUT!!! I have 1 entire week off in February, so you can expect a huge jump forward there!!!
4) I thought I could save them, but I currently have 53 messages I haven't deleted. Those were the old convos, and some are almost a month old. It is official, I will delete them. Unless there's something really important to be said, I'll just delete. I don't have the time, sorry.
5) Notes. I have read them all. But I may have forgotten to remember to respond to them. So far, I know I have 2 from Grey, and 1 from Tielhawk, which I will answer, soon. If I forgot you, please tell me.

So, following a link posted in a certain talented writer's blog post, I have watched what I think may be the cutest, most cuddly, lovable furry animation ever.
The first thing to do, ig to go watch Feathertail. Seriously, if you have any love at all about the transformation stories, you will watch him.

On the plus side, I'm finally trying to do some writing stuff! I decided to try to do the Thursday Prompts, and I'm going to try my darnest to get stuff posted regularly, at least once a month. I just hope it'll help me write my actual series...
