Further Confusion 2010
Posted 16 years agoI will be there but
dinrael will not. I'll be driving from home each day which means I get to have fun with downtown San Jose parking.
I have rehearsals for a play on Saturday from 2-6 and Sunday 6-9pm. My rehearsals take place a good half hour away from the con so I probably won't even show up Saturday unless friends want to do something that night.
I'll definitely be there Friday for most of the day and Sunday morning to say goodbye to folks before they leave.
If you're looking for me: I'm 6'4", short brown hair and clean-shaven (my beard was sacrificed to the play). I might wear my red plaid with white bears scarf.

dinrael and I will be there from Friday through Sunday. Here's the meme info.
Where are you staying?
Friday night at the con hotel, other night's at home about a half hour away.
Where will you be most of the time during the day's?
Wandering the halls looking for friends.
Who will you be with?
dinrael of course, we'll also spend lots of time bugging Thomas and
rainedog at their table, we'll also be tracking down
genecatlow,
jonas,
kitler1213,
vincinicolaides and Pholph,
moodyferret and
agouti-rex, and Chip and Eli.Do you do free art?
No
Do you do trades?
If I can break through my creative insecurity and actually make marks on paper.
Do you do commissions?
No.
Do you have prints/ CDs ?
No, and I even waited too long to have sculptures in the art show (see creative insecurity).
What suits will you have?
None
What is your gender?
Male
How old are you?
31 as of Jan 2.
How tall are you?
6 foot 4 inches. I'm slightly overweight with a beard. I look like most of the furries only slightly taller.
Can I touch you?
If I know you.
Can I talk to you?
Yes.
Can I buy you lots of drinks?
Non-alcoholic (I'm allergic to alcohol)
Can I give you lots of money?
If you have nothing better to do with it.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Those who can already know.
Are you nice?
I like to think so. I'm just very quiet which I think some people misinterpret as being standoffish.
Things I do NOT like at the con:
People who can only speak in Monty python jokes and internet memes. An occasional quick reference is fine, quoting the entire length of the Dead Parrot sketch or All Your Base is not. Use your own words.
Things I DO like at the con:
Seeing friends and watching people be creative.
Show your support for equality! This Saturday
Posted 17 years agoThis Saturday November 15 at 8:30AM HST, 10:30AM West Coast, 11:30AM Mountain, 12:30PM Central, 1:30PM East Coast there will be a nationwide protest against discrimination.
Join the Impact http://jointheimpact.wetpaint.com/ is a grassroots organization that wants to show that discrimination against GLBT people is not acceptable and should not be placed on ballots and in constitutions. They have links to each state's protest, and each state has several cities and towns hosting events. Wherever you are there should be a protest within reach.
If you believe that LGBT people should be treated equally please attend a protest and let your voice be heard.
An excellent speech by Keith Olbermann on why this is important.

Please pass the word around and let as many people know about this as possible!

For all that is right and just, vote no on prop 8!
Posted 17 years agoProposition 8 in California will write discrimination into the state constitution and eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry. Since the California Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex marriage in June of this year over 16,000 couples have wed. Prop 8 threatens to destroy those unions, so who's really protecting marriage?
http://www.noonprop8.com/
Please give whatever you can to halt this enshrining of discrimination into the constitution. If you're broke you can still help by volunteering and talking to everyone you know in California.
My husband,
dinrael, and I would be extremely grateful for any help you can give.
If that's not enough listen to Samuel Jackson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj-0xMrsyxE

dinrael and I got married in August. We managed to get married in the same month as our ten-year anniversary of our first date. The ceremony was a quick civil affair in beautiful San Francisco City Hall. Then a nice small reception of 30 friends and family in a local art gallery's meeting room. Getting the piece of paper at city hall didn't make me feel any different but when we cut our wedding cake in front of our loved ones it felt like we were truly married. For our honeymoon we spent a week on the Big Island of Hawaii. We did a bunch of touristy things but we also just got to relax with each other and watch sunsets in beautiful settings.
If you live in California please remember the couples like us and vote against Prop 8. Don't take our newly won right to marry away.

Posted 17 years agoI haven't been able to really look at FA since April, what with moving, finals, and medical scares.
Now I'm finally settled in the Bay Area and ready to plow through the almost 5000 submissions I have waiting in my watch list.

'08 con report
Posted 18 years agoI made it down Friday despite the torrential rain making the 200 mile drive almost blind. I was running late too, thankfully my spots in the art show were saved. Later that night
dinrael finally got off work and we got to be together again for the weekend. (I can't wait till this job situation is settled so we can go back to living together full time.)
Saturday I spent lots of money on prints, books, CDs, and sketchbooks. The following artists were kind enough to grace my sketchbooks:
louvelex and
kitsumi in the clean
and
grimal and
emorottie in the not so clean. I will get scans out to you artists once I get my scanner working.
n gave me a free copy of the print of the commision I had him do last year for me. I thought that was quite nice.
Even Nicer was Emorottie doing my sketchbook without recompense. I need to do something for you now.
Spent a lot of time hanging out with
genecatlow,
jonas, Kevin J Dog, Rain and Orv.
Saturday night we helped set up the ArtSpots Art Jam and I ended up sitting next to
orange04. I even managed to draw something for Kevin. I haven't drawn traditional media in years.
Missed the final hour of the auction but surprisingly still managed to win a
java piece and a
kitsumi piece. Only two of my clean sculptures sold, for a total of $15 so I at least made my art show reservation fee back. I somehow missed
hardluckart's panel when bidding even though I had made a point to seek it out. Luckily he had a few that didn't sell which I managed to grab one after
rjtremor almost cleaned him out.
Briefly got to chat with
moodyferret and
agouti-rex,
bravo,
vinci_nicolaides and Arty,
codyvfrost,
kaiven,
pomander, and
bd .
Sunday we said our goodbyes to the con for a year and each other for a week. I was feeling the post con depression pretty badly on the ride home. It didn't help that I was almost washed off the road on the 505, thankfully it was much drier on I-5 for the rest of the way back.
Dinrael and I are pre registered for next year and we booked a room in the hotel so we won't have to deal with the parking mess and getting to and from the con again.
I enjoyed the con even though I still felt like I was too slow on conversations. I really need to relax and just talk to people more. I also resolve to next year bring some air dry clay so I can do some fun trades at the con.

dinrael and I will be attending Further Confusion From Friday through Sunday. We won't be at a table so I don't know how you'd find us without already knowing us. We will have badges so just do a lot of squinting. ;)
I'll have some sculptures in the art show.
Bear and Bunny,

Happy Yote,

These will be in the Adult portion of the show. I'll also have some clean stuff in the general art show area.
Please bid if you'd like to take these guys home.
I wanted to show off my Ratchets (not for sale) but the Art Show has a strict no fan art rule.

Posted 19 years agoFigured I might as well make a new post since my last one was about the previous year's Further Confusion.
I ended up getting sick on the drive down to the con. Fortunately just a sinus thing so it didn't incapacitate me too badly. I just had trouble sleeping unmedicated. I really hope I didn't infect anyone.
Dinrael and I mainly just hung out with old friends and bought tons of art. We did get to hang out a bit with Bob Drake and get one each of his remaining prints. He even gave us one extra silkscreen print when we couldn't make up our minds over which one we liked. We also got to sit around with Kitler, who did a lovely commission of us (BTW Kitler and Azaghal are super cute together). :)
We almost cleaned out Dingbatty's collection of pottery in the dealers' room; an art deco wolf designed bowl, an otter bowl, a bunny coffe mug and a cat pitcher. I somehow managed to win a javachicken piece in the adult art auction. We picked up the three photo print sets by Fel and N, plus N's cd and a commission. Got the complete Buffalo Wings archive set and the Newds portfolio from Cooner. I managed to get the last Digger 2 book by Ursula Vernon and a signed Furpiled collection by Leo Magna. Genus Male #6 turned out to be disappointing. ISO #2 & 3 came out great by Codyfrost. We got the very nice Wish You Were Here Calendar from Blotch's table plus an original piece with the Roman crane and caracal. A beautiful large print by oCelot of the white tiger looking backwards at the viewer. Two bear prints from Dark Natasha and the latest Newshounds collection by Thomas K. Dye.
Next year we really have to get a hotel room at the con itself.

I had a good time at Further Confusion. Got to meet lots of old friends and surprise a few of them that I'm now doing porn. Didn't really meet anyone who knew me from this name, though Dinrael got recognized drawing in the creator's lounge.
I need to be more aggresive with my sketchbook. I only got two drawings in my naughty one. One by Dinrael and the other by Ekigyuu. Everyone else had too many books to do. Next year I have to start Friday morning before they're all filled up. I was also outbid on all the adult artshow pieces I wanted. I was especially after a few pieces by Javachicken and Ssirus.
I did get to pick up the three issues of Heat, 2 books by Ursula Vernon, Genus Male 5, 3 portfolios from Drybone The cowboy portfolio by Cooner, some lovely pottery by Dingbatty, a comic and portfolio from Ursula Husted, the beastiary playing cards, and a wolf in a kilt by Stephanie Lynn. at the charity auction. I also got the con poster by Jonas at the charity auction.
I traded a sculpture to Micah Fennec for a drawing. Otherwise I could have left my box of sculptures at home. I briefly met Wicked Sairah in the art show but I didn't have the courage to ask her about her sculpting.
All in all a good fun con. Maybe I can find time to go to Conifur this year so I don't have to wait a full year to be around other artists.
