incubator says to use a GFCI outlet, how important is this?
General | Posted 10 years agogoogle is failing me so I am asking here >_<
I bought this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgrKwcdM1kM the video, the written instructions, and the warning list sticker on the incubator itself note to use a GFCI outlet but I only have 2 of these in my house, one is a tiny bathroom and one in the kitchen which we already cannot run the microwave and toaster oven at the same time, oh and the bathroom is on the same circuit.
Can I just ignore this warning and use a normal outlet?
I cannot find a watt for this model (it does not list it anywhere???) but online I found an older model is 9200 watts, is that too high for a normal outlet?
EDIT: a twitter comment says "At 9200 watts it would be .. uhm, 76.66 amps at 120 volts or 38.33 amps at 240v. That's a BIG circuit."

my thoughts on the ending to the movie "9"
General | Posted 10 years ago(spoilers?)
I really want to love this movie as a whole, but I can't, I love most of it... but...
My thoughts where that the machine would need to absorb all of them to create a whole soul and then it would go on to recreate life in the world in a good way, that the remaining characters would realize this and we'd see a heroic sacrifice for the greater good of the future of the world.
... was rather disappointed this was not at all where the movie went, I was disappointed with the ending we got :/
PS the ending to "9" feels like the ending to "I am Legend" all over again, I hate the ending they chose for the theatrical release of "I am Legend", I saw the alternate ending and wiped the theater ending from my mind because the ending they cut is what I freaken wanted!!!

looking to buy: white resin horns/antlers
General | Posted 10 years agoI ordered these in white https://www.etsy.com/listing/176199.....home_active_11 but I now no longer want to wait for them :/ the head is ready for them NOW.
Does anyone out there have those horns in white and would be willing to sell to me? If not then do you have some other kind of not huge horn/antler cast in white resin you would be willing to sell me (NOT painted white, I don't want the customer to worry about paint coming off!)

in search of egg incubator services
General | Posted 10 years agoCraigslist used to have an add for "egg incubator services" but it is gone, I have a pile of 20+ silkie eggs here I wanna hatch but no broody hen to stick them under, and some are getting past the "best by" date of 10 days (I have had month old eggs hatch but chances are greater the fresher they are)
I don't suppose anyone in the Sacramento/Carmichael area is running an incubator right now that I can pop some eggs into? I don't want these potential babies to go to waste...

Fursuits are not safe left in cars
General | Posted 10 years agoFirst off I am not chastising anybody because I myself have left my fursuits locked in a car before as I have done public events where I was forced to do my suiting out of the car, but every time I worry about it, and for good reason.
http://brokeassstuart.com/blog/2016.....s-for-robbery/
This is sadly is just the most recent case, and sadly I believe spite is the source of these thefts. One really cannot easily just turn around and make a profit from selling a stolen fursuit, they are to identifiable to stay under the radar, and they are only worth thousands to their owners... so I get a feeling these thefts are cases of "hurr hurr stupid furry lets steal and trash their stupid fursuit" not at all caring how personal, expensive and individually unique they are :(

RIP premature silkie chick, I did my best.

This egg was a late addition to the last batch thanks to a sneaky hen laying an egg in my brood hen's nest, when that brood hen got up with her 3 hatchlings I placed the rouge egg under another brood hen who's babies are due Feb the 19th.
I knew the shell was thin, I repaired a hairline crack last week. I since upped the calcium in my flock's food to prevent thin shells.
I knew it would hatch today or tomorrow, worried about the shell I got up at the crack of dawn to check, while it had not made its first crack the egg, its "pip", the egg was peeping.
A couple hours later I checked and the egg was crushed under the hen, the whole top half of the shell just fell off it was so smashed, spots of blood in the exposed outer membrane meaning the inner vein membrane was damaged, this is part of the chick's circulatory system until the veins recede in the last hours, blood loss from the membrane can drain the actual chick.
I knew this was very dire.
I could not believe this disaster happened so close to birth.
I nursemaid it under a heat lamp, keeping the membrane damp, just like I did the floodling Shell-don, but Shell-don had pipped hours before the flood, and when found in the cold wet nest had just begun to "unzip", a chick pips and then rests about 24 hours before unzipping which takes 12-24 hours, so Shell-don was at least 24 hours older, stronger, more ready to be a bird.
While its breathing was unsteady all day I had hope, it had survived the first few hours, it would peep on occasion and was responsive to touch.
15 hours from disaster discovery, it died.
Removal from the shell revealed a pool of unseen blood in the remaining bottom half of the shell, the broken vein membrane was worse than I could see and worse than I thought, either the membrane damage was the cause or it succumbed to internal damage from being stepped on by the hen (normally not a problem but the shell was too thin) neither of which I could have fixed.
I know I did my best, I know I could not have done better, and I know I have dealt with much much much worse loss in my life, but I still had a short cry about it, it is still a tiny little innocent life that was snuffed out in front of me right before it got to live.
"Shit happens" especially when dealing with tiny fragile animals, all you can do is your best to stay calm and level headed when faced with disasters.
My next batch is due the 19th, let's hope all goes will this time.
In the meantime I still have the other 3 born just a few days ago, plus my older babies to love on all the more as I was reminded of how terribly fragile they are.

Do you line the neck on your bodysuits?
General | Posted 10 years agoAs in take a trim of fleece or bias tape, fold it over the edge of the bodysuit neck hole, and sew in place?
years back a customer turned friend recommended I do it as their wife did so to their suit and it does look more professional.... but I haaaaaaaaaaaaate doing it. I actually really really really hate making bodies and I feel that as nice as a lined neck on a bodysuit looks it is like the straw that broke the camel's back to do it.
(same goes for hands and feet, just all my nope ugh)
In general it is done to look nice but reports also say it helps prevent stretching.... but I have never lined a personal project and no necks (or wrist/feet cuffs) have stretched on any of the personal suits my sister and I own, nor has it happened on suits made for friends/family to wear, and when I say this I am talking about 20+ suits some aging back 10 years.
How valued is neck lining?

22 Beastcub suits at the FC Beastcub photo shoot
General | Posted 10 years agoLast year I saw 21 of my suits at the con with 18 arriving for the photo.
I spotted 26 this year at the con with 22 ending up in the photo.
How many suits will I see next year? How many suits will be the photo next year? Tune in 365 days from now to find out X3
PS would anyone like to volunteer to run Beastcub photo shoots at other cons? Such as AC, MFF, BLFC, FWA, Califur, FF, EF etc etc? I really don't attend very many cons and thus cannot head very many gatherings myself -w-;

Beastcub Creations FC Group Photo TODAY 6:30
General | Posted 10 years agoSome of you were in the photo last year, some of you I know have attended FC in the past, some of you I have no idea if you are even coming to FC since you are newer customers and so I wanted to let you know in case you were coming!
The Dragonscales photo area is on the second floor just inside the con center (unless the moved it this year...) the photo people go on break at 7 so do please be on time! Please be early rather than late as we line up for the photo at 6:30 sharp, no waiting for latecomers!
Neck vision people in the back (except for Shinopa, she tiny) then a row of standing and a row of kneeling (quadsuits go in this row) and if needed a row of sitting. We have to squeeze in to fit (hopefully) lots of people.
All rows need to line up like bricks, as in be between the people behind you so your head does not block theirs.
Fullsuits only in the front row please :)
Big tailed people stay to the outer left and right so you can turn your big butts outward to make room.
If you have more than one suit from me and do not have a friend to wear the second suit then *please* bring the second head so someone in the back row can hold it up behind a person in front of them to make it appear as if its being worn :)
I really hope we get everyone in the photo this time! I have a large print of last year's hanging in my work room and every time I see it I have to imagine the missing 3 people in it... so lets get all Beastcub suits this time :D
PS also still signal boosting my friend's Undertale gathering Saturday at 5pm! :)

signal boost: Undertale photo gathering at FC Sat 5pm
General | Posted 10 years agoA friend of mine made a fursuit/mascot style costume of Muffet the spider from Undertale and arranged a photo shoot for Undertale fursuits/cosplay at the Drasgonscales photo area Saturday at 5pm.
This is open to all cosplay from the game not just the animal-based characters. Robots, ghosts, skeletons, humans, etc etc are encouraged to join the photo.
She was concerned not a lot people look at the meetup page thingie on FC's site so I am signal boosting for her :)
PS. The Beastcub photo shoot is still Friday at 6:30 PM, also at the Dragons Scales photo area.

I am now thinking Beastcub Creations photo at 6:50pm Friday?
General | Posted 10 years agoOKAY so the con schedule is now up. The photo guys go on break at 7 and come back at 9 so really for an after dinner photo we have 6:50 or 9.
I was thinking 9 before but that conflicts with fancy Friday and the masquerade, also people were saying it was rather late and conflicts with when the parties start. However, 6:50 sounds like it would conflict with people's dinner plans maybe?
So please comment below on what you would prefer, 6:50pm or 9pm
I would like to get this settled and us penciled in for an official time.

General | Posted 10 years agoI am trying to figure out when the neck to do this, 9pm Friday was done last year and I got all but 3 people there.
EDIT: how does 7pm sound? I want to avoid dinner issues and be sure people are all checked in.
ALSO does anyone know the hours Dragonscales is running???? I Cannot seem to find their hours, I need to not plan this during one of their break times!

Creampuff is feeling better
General | Posted 10 years agoWorry over Creampuff is killing me, more problems.
General | Posted 10 years agoI just got back from the vet as her TMI issue got worse as she began to (TMI altert) leak small amounts of feces. (end TMI alert)
They are pretty sure the issue is because a couple days ago I began to thin her food with turkey gravy vs the liquid diet stuff (because I was out and it's $10 for a small soup can's worth) and that blew out her already compromised digestive tract (antibiotics can harm the good bacteria in the gut) leading to all these issues. They don't feel or see any other reasoning, her abdomen is not painful, and her vitals and behavior are both fine.
I have a probitotic now and I am crossing my fingers that she is better in 3 days because otherwise it could be something more sinister and will require a $200 test to figure things out.
I have been so stressed, so worried, for so long. This cat is like my child, I have been loosing so much sleep and work time over her... And I hate to talk about money since she is priceless to me, but on top of worrying over her well being I am worrying about cost as she has had $250 in post-op rechecks, she has had 3 unscheduled vet visits now at $60-$100 each, and the surgery cost almost $2000, her painkillers were $70, and the pre-surgery blood work was $400, and the FIV/FLV test, she's had $60 of special food, and exam before that was $200 and I well, compared to what I normally live off of in a month I basically I have a whole extra 2 months worth of expenses here guys :C
TDLR This whole cat surgery thing has been a really hard time for me, and I am feeling really emotionally and financially beat up.

More Creampuff health complications
General | Posted 10 years agoShe is having bowel problems now, the concern is not enough to rush off to the emergency vet but it is enough to stay up half the night making sure she continues to act normal aside from her (begin TMI zone) minimal and pasty bowl movements and licking herself a lot. There also is a little bit of rectal bleeding, defiantly no blood in the stool though so I am not sickly worried. (end TMI zone)
She is on 4 kinds of medications all with potential side effects, and it could be the meds, or it could be the food as I have been trying different things with her.
I am calling the vet in the morning.
Also she got another dose of the appetite stimulant today and either they gave her a bit more than the last 3 does (she gets it every 72 hours) or she does not need it anymore because all day she has been way too ravenous, like she is uncomfortably hungry, but with her poo troubles I do not want her to overeat :[
Man....
I am so burnt out from being stressed and worried about her so much.
This has been a VERY tiring 2 weeks.
EDIT she is still the same but less licking, the vet seems to think the problem is that she has been on the antibiotics so long that the good bacteria in her gut are diminished, I am picking up a probiotic today.

Undertale art - what color is the design on Toriel's chest??
General | Posted 10 years agoI see people do a darker purple, blue, bluish purple, and lavender.
The game sprite seems to be a bluish purple? Is the Steam card like a piece of official art, because on that it's lavender.
I guess when I draw her it don't really matter??? Just choose what is pleasing??? I kind of like the lavender myself, I like the monochrome look.

One more hour to bid, help cover Creampuff's bills! update
General | Posted 10 years agoone hour left on the steenbok, bid here https://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1079357.html
Creampuff has cost just over $2600 already and she is continuing to have costly complications, today she had another vet visit for more IV fluids and an appetite stimulator, looking at her mouth today I was informed she may need future steroids to clear up the last of the infection in her mouth, we may also need to up her pain meds.
She is doing better today, as awful as it was to get the stimulant pill in her (never seen her react like that) she did eat a bit today, and did so on her own which I am so grateful for because syringe feeding will be an absolute nightmare.

Crempuff won't eat
General | Posted 10 years agoIt started yesterday, I upped her pain meds to the full dose and she still won't eat, she has not eaten since this time yesterday and since Tuesday has barely eaten at all so I worry about fatty liver disease which sets in very quickly when a cat will not eat and is deadly.
She won't even attempt to drink the liquid diet stuff now.
She had her re-check yesterday and the vet said her mouth was "not as good as they would like" so they gave her a long term antibiotic shot called convenia and I looked it up and it can kill a cat's appetite among other way more serious even deadly things the vet never disclosed with me, a bad reaction can happen at any time for up to a month, and there is no way to get the medication out of her system if she has a deadly reaction.
I am just so worried and upset, I have this pit in my stomach that makes me feel like I am going to loose her, I keep bursting into tears.
EDIT: she took 2 tiny bites of tuna and drank the water from the can, I offered her more tuna water, 3 kinds of all-meat baby food, the liquid diet, the recovery foo... but shes gone back to acting interested but not eating.
I did not get much into her system but at least it is something, and hopefully enough to stave off the liver issues. She's acting fine, so if her behavior remains normal I will hold off on seeing a vet until tomorrow.
I am still really worried guys, namely because I read about cats suddenly dying from that antibiotic shot like a week after it was given :/
My vet did not discuss any risks with me at all so I am really peeved, I am a HUGE worry wart to the point of being neurotic so my gut is going to feel like Creampuff could die any moment for a long time because of this.
