Fry Bread Recipe
Posted 10 years agoSo, if you have Native roots, I'm sure your family has their own fry bread recipe. BUT, I figured that a lot of you don't know the magical wonder that is fry bread. So real quick, here's the recipe I've always used since I like to keep it simple:
3 cups flour
1.5 teaspoons baking powder
1.5 cup warm-ish water
Oil to fry in
NOW MIND YOU, it's not important that these measurements be exact. I kind of eyeball it most of the time. This recipe makes about 4 decent size pieces of bread. It's easy peasy. Heat the oil, fry until golden on both sides.
THERE'S SO MANY THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH FRY BREAD. The most popular thing that you'll nearly always find at a powwow is "Indian Tacos" ya just throw you some ground bison, lettuce, cheese, beans, whatever you want on it and YUM. OR you can coat it with melted butter and toss it in some cinnamon/sugar. You can literally do whatever you want with it. Right now, I'm eating a piece with sort-of-mashed red beans with sugar on it. Omnomnom.
