Upcoming events, commissions, potential free stuff!
General | Posted 12 years agoHey lovely watchers! Things have been going smoothly since AC. I did Baltimore Comicon with a good bit of success. I did pretty well, but more importantly, it was really fun! It was Thor's first convention EVER, and he enjoyed himself a lot more than he thought he was. And there's definitely something to be said for local shows... so much easier to deal with. XD
I'm currently planning the next few months of shows. I don't have anything slated for this fall, so I'm wide open to suggestions and commissions. As for next year, I only have one completely guaranteed (as in, paid for): Magfest in Washington, DC, in January. I've never been to Magfest but a bunch of my friends go every year, so I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also looking into Katsucon and Furthemore, which are both also local. (yay!) I'm super excited about both shows for different reasons... Katsucon because it's large and well-established and I think I'll do very well there, and Furthemore because it's so new and small and I'm excited to help make it rock. Anyone in the midatlantic area should consider attending. :D http://www.furthemore.org/
I'm also toying with the notion of doing FWA. FWA would be a long journey, but I know a lot of you awesome folks go there, and I'd meet a bunch of new people. Which is a part of my job I LOVE! Also, of course, I'll be trying for Anthrocon again. That was a great experience! In early summer, I will probably be vending at the VA Renfest for the whole season. But I don't know too much about that yet, so... I'll zip my lips for now. :3
Now, commissions! As I said, I'm open for custom orders. The holiday season looms ever closer... and remember, my pieces make awesome presents. >:D Sometime in the next couple days I'll probably be making a visual commission guide for my most common pieces, like collars, bracelets, armor, and bags.
I'm also interested in pushing for more watchers, so I'm considering doing a signal boost raffle on FA, deviantart, and tumblr--and maybe Twitter and Facebook, but I'm not sure yet. This is still in the planning phases, but the basic gist is this: I'll make a relevant journal and tumblr post, and you guys can share the links on your FA/DA or reblog the post on tumblr. Every share will count as an entry in a raffle for some cool customized leather gear. It will probably scale in size, starting with a custom bracelet and going up to a monetary worth. So if it gets up to $60, you can get $60 worth of stuff. For example: a bag, two collars, 4 fancy bracelets, OR 6 normal bracelets... all with your choice of colors and designs! Free stuff! Expect this post coming soon, once I put something nice together. Again, great for holiday gifts. :D

ANTHROCON
General | Posted 12 years agoHoly crap, how awesome was Anthrocon! I loved meeting so many awesome furries, so here's a big HELLO to anyone I saw there.
everdeer and I will definitely be coming back next year. Ever had a great first time in suit and got a ton of attention, so it was really fun spotting for her. And I had a great first time selling in a dealer's room! I pulled a profit and have a handful of custom orders to deal with that I'll be working on this week and the next.
I'm excited to do more cons. I've been attending Balticon for about 10 years and I love it, but I would never be a dealer there (because I actually like attending, hee). I was thinking about Baltimore ComicCon in September, and then MAYBE FurFright... does anyone have any good ideas about cons where my leatherwork might sell? :) I'm based out of Maryland and would have to drive to the con due to my wares, so keep that in mind!

Anthrocon table switch!
General | Posted 12 years agoThe fine folks at AC accidentally double booked my table! It's not a big deal at all, and I'm being moved to table O-13, which is along the right wall of the dealer's room. So that'll be nice. B) I figure most people don't care what table I'm at since they'll just bump into me on their normal circuits, but I figure I'd mention it anyway! :P

General | Posted 12 years agoDoes anyone here have experience getting stickers printed? I'm looking to have some for Anthrocon, but I'm not sure what site to go with.
Networking!!!
General | Posted 12 years agoHeimdall is are a network genius?1!
I don't know what I'm doing, really, but I figure it's time to publicize this stuff. I don't post a lot on any of these sites, so no worries about flooded inboxes or anything!
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-.....26204257421191
I definitely emphasize my work on my Facebook. There will be more status updates and WIP shots on there than here or on deviantart, so if you like that sort of stuff, toss a Like my way. Occasionally I'll link to new full-blown paintings or projects in my galleries. I think anything I post on here will be relevant to my art! At least, that's the current plan.
Twitter: https://twitter.com/ScreamingNorth
This Twitter account receives all the posts from Facebook. I also tweet about random stuff (quite infrequently) like NaNoWriMo, chatting with friends, random thoughts, etc. If you only care about my leather work and art, I wouldn't follow my Twitter, but I don't really tweet a lot so whatevs!
Tumblr: http://screamingnorth.tumblr.com
I got this tumblr a while ago and I haven't started using it much yet. Expect similar things as on Twitter, but with more pictures. I dunno how into the whole reblogging thing I'll get, so don't expect more than a couple posts a day at most.

RPRepository 2013!
General | Posted 12 years agoHey guys! I know a lot of you RP. Well, there's no better place to network with other RPers than the RPRepository. Even if you don't do any RPing on-site, it's still a great place to store your character information! Creating groups and pages are really easy and you can pick from a staggering number of awesome layouts for your characters. You can also create RP groups with your own forums, private or public, in just a few clicks.
A lot of cool stuff is being rolled out in 2013, too. RPR's third birthday just rolled by, and with it came the splendid RP Finder! This tool lets you propose ideas for RPs or browse through other peoples' ideas--and it guarantees they've been active in the past ten minutes.
The community is also wicked friendly and there are lots of opportunities for artists as well! So take a peek!

Anthrocon!
General | Posted 13 years agoHey all! It's now official--I'm going to Anthrocon. :) I have a table in the dealer's room where I'll be selling leather stuff! I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to be offering, but if anyone has any tips, tricks, and ideas I certainly wouldn't say no to them! I'm trying to hammer down my pricing right now, so any feedback on this would be really appreciated. Currently I think things are broken down too much. I'd like to have more broad price categories.

--- mini cuffs 1 2 $25
--- bracers 1 2 PRICED INDIVIDUALLY

--- armor... I'm working on a breastplate right now. That may be there. We'll see.
--- pauldrons? headband armor? should I even bother?
Also, an unrelated reminder! My art contest is still going on: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4169377/

Conventions and art contest update
General | Posted 13 years agoHello! How's everyone doing? I'm doing alright. I finally got my BS in Computer Science and I'm job searching now. It's pretty overwhelming. I've been trying to do more art and I'm regretting my old decision to split up my galleries, because as my artistic style develops, I find myself turning even commissions and gift pictures into things I'm proud of. So it's possible in the future I'll merge my galleries back together. Who knows!
I'm trying to decide if I should do any conventions this year. Every year I go to Balticon and I put work in their art show. I thought it might be interesting to attend a con more as a dealer and less as just a... goer. Otakon is a couple miles down the road from me so that's always a possibility, but I don't really like anime and Otakon is so big! I think I might get overwhelmed. But still, I wonder if it's a good idea to try it. I'm also considering selling at Anthrocon, in their dealer room... yes, yes, I know. :P It would be well within my budget and it isn't that far to travel. So my question is this: has anyone ever attended either of these cons? Either selling or just attending. What was your experience? I have been to both cons in the distant past but I don't remember them well. Do you think my leather gear would sell well? I would offer a lot of small things like bracelets and trinkets, then larger and fancier things like bags, bracers, and leather-bound journals. And collars of course, since those seem to be in style at these sorts of cons. :P
Also, remember I'm holding my art contest! http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4169377/
I have been considering offering alternative prizes for people who don't play Furcadia. It wouldn't be cash, but it might be paintings, trades, or custom leather gear. If you're interested in joining the contest and you'd want an alternative prize, send me a note. :)

I'm holding an art contest!
General | Posted 13 years agoHello everyone! I don't think I've ever held a personal character art contest, and it seems like it might be fun. As a heads up, the prizes are meant for Furcadia players, but there are alternatives if you don't want them. However, please discuss the alternative prizes with me before the deadline. You'll be drawing...
Categories:
I'm looking for any kind of visual art depicting Heimdall. Full-body character illustrations of any kind are the best! Digital and traditional are both great. Ports are okay too, as are pixel tags and anything else you can think of. Color is favored (the character is pretty simple), and backgrounds or other details like props would also be great. All images will be judged together.
If you want to do a remapping port, keep in mind my character is pretty simple. Keep most of it fur-colored (scales, spikes, horns, etc.) but with nonremapping gold teeth, badge-colored or nonremappable gems, and eye-colored eyes.
Criteria:
Accuracy! Heimdall may just be a big black dragon, but there are some particulars about it, like its build, teeth, and so forth. Some things like the exact spikes and gem placement are pretty flexible.
Image size! I prefer full-body images, or at least images that show more than just the head. I have a lot of portrait-type pics already!
Cool poses! Try something new. Different expressions and poses are awesome.
Prizes:
Lifers available: angel cat, noble hyooman, kiwi, chinchilla, flooki, floof
First place:
First pick of lifers
Second pick of lifers
50 GD
Second place:
Third pick of lifers
30 GD
Consolation prize: Anyone who enters but doesn't win will get 5 GD and a red, yellow, or purple rosebud (your choice)!
Heads up! I am offering alternative prizes for first and second place if you don't want the Furcadia items. These prizes will consist of character art, paintings, and/or leather gear like collars and cuffs. However, due to the personal nature of these prizes, you'll have to discuss them with me sometime before the deadline, otherwise it's assumed you're just trying for the Furcadia items. So if you're interested in the alternatives, just drop me a note.
Reselling:
I plan on keeping all the submitted images since I'm giving out consolation prizes to everyone who enters. I might be okay with ports being edited and resold in lieu of the consolation prize, but I'd really prefer not.

Or just send a note here on FA!
Heimdall
big black Viking dragon
Heimdall is a large and muscular feral dragon that is covered in thick scales and spikes. It is colored cold black, and its hide is dull and matte, not shiny at all. It has scars everywhere. It is both sexless and genderless. It has a stout build and is all around chunky. It has a pair of huge ram's horns and a club at the end of its tail. Its teeth stick out at odd angles and are the color of pure gold.

Deadline is February 22nd, 2013!
Please be considerate if I push the deadline back. It'll be no more than a couple months, and only in order to garnish some extra attention. I would be happy to verify with you that I do in fact have these items to give!Furcadia Kickstarter - last day!
General | Posted 13 years agoThere are about 24 hours left in the Furcadia Kickstarter! Consider chipping in a few bucks if you're a fan of super dynamic user-created content! We reached our base goal forever ago, so we're going to get an awesome web client with full color capability. We even blew through the stretch goals that will get us attachments (the ability to wear items and other avatar pieces on our characters), an amazing 32-bit lighting effect layer, chat channels and customizable desctags for group packages, and a downloadable skin editor that will let us customize the web client's interface for our dreams (or just for ourselves). We're REALLY close to $100,000, which would get us MOAR COLORS, a new Challenges map, and more votable features (which include things like default humans, horizon strip, supported alt trading, and adult verification). So there are huge and awesome things in store.
To the Kickstarter!

That being said... to pledge to Kickstarter you need to sign up with Amazon payments, which requires having some form of magical plastic card. ;) But! I believe there will be a window of time after the Kickstarter ends that DEP will be accepting pledges via Paypal. These Paypal pledges will go towards the stretch goals and I think they're offering the same donor prizes! A lot of folks do what they do through Paypal only, so if you fall into that category, keep your ears perked and your eyes on the Furcadia forums for info: http://forums.furcadia.com

Furcadia Kickstarter!!!!
General | Posted 13 years agoHey everyone! Like gaming, talking with cool people, roleplaying, creating worlds, or all of the above? Furcadia is the game for you! ;) A lot of you already play, and that's awesome, but I know some of you don't. You should look into it. You can literally make a map that has ANYTHING in it, even write code in Furc's scripting language that does cool stuff. (I've made weather effects, amazingly complicated games and RPG-style combat, simulation dreams...)
Furcadia is 16 years old and has just started a Kickstarter to get a big wad of funding to do a huge development cycle! They'll be making a client for the web that features full color display, updated art and interface, etc! It's going to be so awesome! So if you're a fan of my work, please consider donating a couple bucks to the KS. They even have a sweet $25 deal for new players that gives you a portrait space (that you can put your own spiffy art in), a pair of wings for a year, and access to a bunch of exclusive portrait art, uploadable maps, and stuff like that. And muffins!
And folks who DO play Furcadia... well, you guys have even more at stake! Check out those stretch goals. Attachments! Graphical editors! Yee!

If you want to see the sorts of things you can create, check out screenshots of my dreams here: http://vorpalmuse.webs.com/furcadia/dreams.html
And I haven't even updated that in a while... I should get on that! ;) I'll definitely also be contributing portrait art and dreams to the content for our groundbreaking settlers! :)

New Account
General | Posted 13 years agoHey everyone, this is
vorpaldragon. I decided to change accounts mostly because I didn't like my old username, but also because my old account felt really stagnant. I'm still not entirely sure what I want to post here. I might just post everything that goes on my normal gallery, so it's a full cross-post sort of situation. I dunno. So please don't worry about the torrent of rewatching and refaving!
