I ain't dead...

It's been a long while since I've ventured on to this site, or any other art site or app. I've been really distant from the art world for sometime, though I haven't stopped drawing. I still have doodle days, I just haven't really been up to sharing. I've been...going through things if you will.
Here's what I've been up to since I last posted here. I started a new career in the optical field, without even expecting to. I worked for one company for two years, earning my way up to being assistant manager of the clinic. It was a very fun, fast, albeit stressful job. I started working 35hrs a week and got up to 50hrs a week. This occupied the majority of my time. My stress level kept escalating, I moved back in with my mom, I went through a hard breakup, and I just kept working harder and faster. This ravaged my mental health, and just after my one year anniversary I applied for a new job.
I started working at a different, "more professional" optical clinic. This job has proved to be equally if not more stressful, yet I have adequately less hours. Enough to have a life again. I've started drawing more, a lot more, nothing big or fantastic but art nonetheless. I'm excited to come back in to the furry art community, and art communities in general. I hope I can maintain a slow yet more frequent posting schedule.

Right now I'm focusing on making commission samples, at this point I want to work on badges, fashion illustration, and PWYW drawing commissions. not sure if anyone is interested besides me, but that's all that really matters.

It's been almost a year since my last journal entry on here. I can’t believe it’s already December. A lot has happened in my life, and unfortunately not much of it was artistic. Time has been moving so fast that I’ve hardly remembered that it’s time for me to pay my bills!
Sorry for being so inactive and being really irregular with my uploads. I haven’t been creating many finished drawings lately, mostly sketches and comic thumbnails.
I had initially intended November to be a writing month a la NaNoWriMo. So intentionally, drawing wasn’t my focus. I did some writing, don’t get me wrong. But life really got in the way. I’m trying not to let this failure disappoint me, because I did write a 12pg minicomic and the first chapter of my graphic novel. So it wasn’t a complete failure, but it is upsetting coming off my failure to complete inktober. I’m using the “art is hard” excuse with myself to keep myself from feeling depressed over this “thing”.
November has been a really up and down month with me career wise. I was trying to look for a job, but between my personal projects, work, and my apprenticeship it was a challenge. My finances really started to go down hill, which made me more stressed and desperate. At work, management toyed more and more with my hours.The stress to money ration has always been unbalanced. I decided to leave my job so that I would have time to find better work. It’s been a few days, and I am trying my best. Financial uncertainty, which I have been experiencing for months, has really set in. I’ve done already a dozen applications, so I’m still hopeful. But I’m worried about the future I will be getting myself into. Art is hard I guess.
So where does that leave me now?
I’ve completed assembling all of my minicomic zines, I just have to photograph and list them online. I’m hoping a few friends or family members will buy them, but there is no way I can make a significant amount of money through them. I’ve calculated my living expenses and I need to make at least $1000 to pay all of my bills and buy food for myself and my cat. Without a job that’s a lot of money to live on, but with at least a part time job it’s doable. What I would like to do is do commissions to raise that money, but I don’t have the following to accomplish this yet. I’m thinking about adjusting my prices and figuring out something easy and quick to do. Maybe something winter or holiday themed?
Basically I need to get on that hustle. I’ve started on a pricey commission, and I’m learning a lot about photoshop and SAI and working digitally. If my computer is able I want to try streaming/recording art videos. I’ve been thinking about making videos for awhile, since it used to be a hobby of mine. I think it’s a fun and interesting way to track your progression as an artist and to build a following. I’ve also been thinking about making mosaics and 3D art and trying to sell that too.
If anyone knows of any ways to make money let me know. Especially things I can do at home so I can save gas money (I drive an SUV :( ).

General | Posted 10 years agoHey, anyone who happens to be reading this. I know I hardly post?? I'm very irregular with sharing my art, sorry.
The last time I made a journal I was advertising art trades? I get these grandious ideas but I never really think about executing them.
I'm not very good with time. So I've decided I'm just going to focus on myself and my art for the time being.
I don't want to disappoint people with super slow conversations. I'm a very busy person, and I'm not good at being busy.
So, I'm sorry for getting folks hopes up!
As for an actual update...I've been working for the past??? Five almost six months? I'm a waitress and I've been making decent money.
I've been saving up for a new bed and a car. For the first time I've been able to buy whatever I want!!
But I'm still really conservative with my money so saving has been going really well. If only I wasn't afraid to spend it.
And another thing I need to spend money on is moving out. boy howdy.
I've also been going to school. I'm a senior and I might graduate this year. I need sixteen more credits to graduate (after this quarter).
I've FINALLY got into a figure drawing class. It's my first one ever. It's really fun.
I like that know one in the class, mostly, doesn't know my art. I feel very free to experiment and distort what I want.
I'm also in a pottery class which is very hard and frustrating. I feel like I'm the worst thrower in the class and it doesn't feel good.
I just don't seem to get the movements. Which is annoying since I get a lot of the movements in my Afro-Brazilian dance class.
This class is the highlight of my week even though it makes my weekends sore. We dance to live drums which makes it better imho.
My classmates are all fearless and I feel so comfortable dancing and messing up around them. And I'm still taking Japanese.
If that's something people knew??? I'm definitely not confident to speak it outside of class but at least I'm learning? eh?
I made a lot of New Years resolutions. My most important resolution was to draw everyday.
I've broken down the resolution into rules:
no pencil
at least two colors
image must relate to the day (activities, emotions, etc)
must be drawn before bed (no exceptions)
So far I haven't missed a day, even when I was drunk and almost asleep. Hahaha. It's been a fun challenge.
I'm not going to upload any one it until maybe the end of each month? I can release the images in a sort of free package?
Idk, gotta think about it. I've haven't been thinking about commissions either. I know I need to reorganize everything.
IF anyone was interested it'd be more on a quota/name your price sorta deal?

2015 Updates

i apologize. butttt....im going to make that promise again.
ive been getting increasingly motivated over the past few months, and i feel very hopeful.
a couple of friends are teaming up with me to work on a comic strip. so far things are going really great, and everyone is on fire.
because of this special new project, im try to keep my FA updated with new sketches and art and whatnot.
to all the folks i promised free art to I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN YOU.
i have actually done a few more than posted, but i havent gotten around to scanning or photographing them.
i promise ill post them (eventually) and ill send you a link.

ive been going through a very difficult time with my anxiety and depression.
i hardly draw anymore, and i apologize.
the few things i have been drawing are traditional,
and all i can do is take crappy pictures or going into a stress rage because the scanner wont work.
i admit while and can most easily do the first option the idea of only showing low quality images makes me feel

my tablet wont work. like my computer doesnt recognize it. i evven downloaded drivers and everything.
