Okay, I know it’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted anything, but I’m back for now at least. Long story short, my mental health has been kind of all over the place (big surprise, I know), but now I at least feel like I’m actually starting to make some progress towards getting better. Like, actually getting better this time. I’m starting to realize that I really need to find a way to make my drawing process easier for myself, so I’m currently in the middle of making assets and references that will hopefully get things done faster. I’ve also realized that I think I’ve been focusing too much into making this art thing into a career, when realistically I don’t know if it will work out. I still want to eventually make it into a career, at least part-time, but for now I think I just need to focus on enjoying making things again just because I want to, and not because it’s something I eventually want to make money doing. I need to focus on rekindling my passion, and maybe a career will naturally spring up around that passion, but if it doesn’t at least I can still enjoy making art for its own sake.

I probably won’t have any fun pieces out for a while, but I do plan on going back to that damn comic strip that I said I was going to finish like a year ago. That’s going to be my next goal once I have all the references and assets made up, and hopefully it will be done by the end of the year. In the meantime, I hope you all can enjoy the content I currently have published and will stick around to see what else I have coming in the future.

This past month has been… rough, to say the least. I’m not going into details, but I’ve really been struggling to find motivation to draw lately. I’ve been working on an extremely personal piece lately, and every time I open the damn file I just end up staring at it and not doing anything. I’ve posted what I have so far in my scraps, just to give you guys a little something for the holidays, but my mental health has really been kicking my ass lately. At this rate, I doubt I’ll have anything done for January either, but I really want to take my time with this one. Hopefully it will be something that’s actually good and not just a piece of shit.

Yeah, if you can’t already tell, I haven’t been doing great. I guess my New Year’s resolution this year is to not be so depressed. Go team!

Yeah, uh… I don’t really know how to end this one so… bye.

I have some exciting news! At the rate things are going, I’ll probably be uploading my comic strip at the start of next year! Ha ha, hooray for depression!

Seriously though, I am kind of bummed that I still haven’t finished the strip yet, and for that, I’m genuinely sorry to anyone who might have been looking forward to it. Things have been complicated lately. I started a new job, my final semester is winding down, and my depression has been getting worse lately. Mental health is a really weird thing. Feelings are a really weird thing. Being human is a really weird thing. I promise I am going to finish the strip… eventually. I might be taking a break to get myself back on track. If I manage to find the motivation to draw again, I’ll be posting on my social pages. For now though, the future feels kind of uncertain.

Currently chipping away at my next strip. I’m sketching out the characters right now and it should be done by the end of November. I hit a little bit of a roadblock with my motivation and it impeded my progress this month. I don’t know what causes it, but I always seem to end up running into wall when I finish a project and move on to the next. It really screws with my head. I still wanted to put something out this month, so I posted a little headshot of Ember today with my current mood. Fortunately, I think that was the little boost I needed to get back in the swing of it, so I’m going to get back to work.

Ha ha… So, I’m not going to be posting anything this month. Without getting into detail, my mental health took a serious blow yesterday, as of posting this update. I currently have a new comic script written and blocked out, but it probably won’t be ready until late October (November at the latest). I will continue to work on it when I can, but other things need to take priority right now. I do hope I’m at least keeping you entertained with the content I currently have uploaded, and that I can eventually grow this passion into something that sticks around for a little while. I really appreciate all the feedback I received for the previous strip I posted. I honestly can’t tell you how much it means to me.

Hey, so, I decided I wanted to start making comics and I noticed something while posting my first one last Monday: I am terrible at titling my own stuff. I mean, *untitled furry comic*? How original is that? Still, those of you who have already seen it have been very positive in your feedback and support, and I would just like to say thank you for that. It means a lot! I enjoyed making this strip quite a lot (and making myself laugh at my own dumb jokes), and I hope it becomes something that all of you will be able to enjoy for a little while at least.

I currently have a new script in process right now, so hopefully I’ll have another strip out soon. However, I’m currently in the middle of some major life changes and won’t have as much time to dedicate to drawing as I would like. I know I say that pretty much every time I do one of these update things, but I want to be honest and keep you all informed.

Okay, so I know I haven’t been great at keeping up with my updates or my art lately. Last month I took an intensive summer course and it took up most of my free time and energy. However, now that the class is over, I’ve decided I want to open up some art commission slots as a way to keep in practice and make some money on the side. This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while and I’m excited to see where it goes. If you think you would be interested in a commission, I would greatly appreciate the support. So… I haven’t made anything this month either. Been working through some mental health issues and taking a much-needed break just to relax. I’ve been obsessively playing Tears of the Kingdom and have already beaten all the main story quests.

While I don’t have any of my own art to promote, I do want to shine some light on a budding artist friend of mine: Ash_scribbles. I have a new WIP in my scraps folder, and guess what? It’s Bea from Night in the Woods! Bea is definitely my favorite character in the game. Definitely not because I’m also a sarcastic and depressed f*ck.

I have a busy schedule in the coming weeks because finals are approaching and my friend is graduating in May. Not sure if I’ll have something ready by the end of April, but I’m going to try. A lot of changes are happening right now. I’m finally getting back to work on my mental health, I’m looking into switching jobs, and I’m rapidly approaching my own graduation at the end of the year.

Why do I insist on piling more work onto my load when I know I already have, like, a thousand other things happening already? ADHD at its finest, folks.

I’m going to keep this one short, as I don’t really have much to say. I’m kind of going through some things right now, so I’m not really in the best of moods. Been trying to get some help for my mental health. I’m still trying to get some art done. I have some more Night in the Woods stuff in the works. I have a concept that I want to do with my OCs.

So, yeah. That’s pretty much it.

Okay, so I might have been procrastinating a little bit with my artwork this month. I don’t have any full pieces done, but I do actually have a reason other than procrastination this time. Recently, I decided to bring home my 14-year-old cat, who had been living with my dad for the past few years. She’s been having kidney problems for a while now and I’ve been doing my best to make sure she stays as healthy as she can. Unfortunately, these past few weeks she hasn’t been eating very well and I’ve been focused on trying to take care of her. She’s doing better now, but I’m still worried that she might relapse again. She’s an old, stubborn little shit though, so hopefully she still has a little bit left in her to keep going for a little while.

In the meantime, I’m still working on Lord of the Snack Falcon. Hopefully it will be out by next month. After that, I think I want to try working on some stuff with my OCs, now that I have their reference sheets finally finished.

Happy holidays everyone! Whatever you’re celebrating, I hope you’re having a good time. Unfortunately, I haven’t done any actual art pieces this month, but I have made updated reference sheets of my characters if you’re into that. I really want to do more art with them that I hope you all will enjoy too. I think for January I want to do something with Ember and Emory (maybe a short comic), or I’ll finally finish drawing Lord of the Snack Falcon. To be honest, I never really know what I’m going to do. My poor planning skills are working at their finest right now.

My motivation for making actual artwork has been… fickle lately. I don’t know what it is, but sometimes I will just get so excited about an art piece and then halfway through I will just hit a wall of lost interest and procrastination for a really long period of time. Then, I’ll slowly start building motivation again and it’s like I can’t stop drawing. I don’t understand it, I just know that’s how it works.

Anyways, I’m definitely looking forward to the upcoming year. I really hope this will be the start of some good things for my content and I hope you all are looking forward to it.

Ha ha! Already breaking my promise of making more crap. Sorry everyone, I’ve been pretty busy this month in addition to my terrible procrastinating habits. The end of the semester is kicking my ass, my workplace is currently short-staffed, and I’m DMing a D&D campaign for the first time. I want to draw more, I really do, but life is currently taking over at the moment. I can at least give you a sneak peek at something I’m currently working on. You can find it in my scraps. With my holiday break coming up, I’ll hopefully be able to get something done by the end of the month.

It’s spooky season everyone! That means we get to dress up as the scariest thing we can think of. So what did I choose?

Corona virus.

Okay, well, I guess I didn’t really choose it. In all seriousness, I did come down with the virus in this past month, so that did kind of throw me for a loop a little bit. My mental health has been a bit weird lately too, so my motivation for art making has been a bit lacking. Now that all of that is mostly out of the way, I intend to get back into my work gradually. I still intend to keep my promise of trying to get a new piece out every month or every other month, and I just posted another simple piece on my page today. I really am hoping to get some more stuff out there, so look forward to more in the next month or two.

This month has been… busy, to say the least. I had to take a step back from drawing for a bit in order to get some real-life stuff done (ew), but I should be getting back to working at it again soon. So, yeah. Some of you may have noticed a few big changes in my profile. I figured it was finally time to do some updating, so I’m now officially SketchEms (or equivalent) on most of my profiles. Due to the fact that FurAffinity still hasn’t implemented an option to change your username I’m still BlackPaintArt on that platform because I didn’t want to start a new account just for a name change. I also have a new profile pic with Em’s new design, which I think turned out pretty well if I do say so myself.

I’m still working on some more updates for all my art stuff, mainly some updated reference sheets for all my OC, as well as a possible new character to add to my cast. I also have a short fan-made Changeling Tale comic strip-video… thing… in the works right now that will hopefully be done around the same time as the full game release. It’s probably my largest project yet, so we’ll see if it gets done in time. As I believe I said last time, I am also going to try to post smaller art projects in between now and the completion of the strip so that it won't seem like I’ve disappeared again for several months while making this thing. My classes will be starting up again about two weeks from now, but hopefully it won’t interfere too much with my progress.

For any that may not know, I posted another piece of my series last Friday. I’m only about a month late, mostly because I decided to start it from scratch again. It’s posted under the “mature” tag, so be sure to change your settings accordingly if you wish to view it. I have the next one ready to be released this Friday, so keep an eye out for that one.

As the series is finally coming to an end, I’m hoping I can try to improve some of my methods and get more stuff out there. I think I’ve already mentioned my mountain of projects that I’m slowly chipping away at, some of which are a bit on the large scale. I also have more classes coming up in the fall. My goal is to shoot for one new piece to be released every month, at the very minimum every other month, which I think is reasonable for now. Not going to lie, I’m a little relieved to get back to the more light-hearted, silly stuff that I normally do.

Before I go, I want to take a moment to thank all of you who have been following this art series in its entirety, as well as those who have been taking interest in any and all of my content. I’m glad that what I’m putting out there has been connecting with some of you, and that’s all I’ve really been hoping to achieve with my art. I hope that I can continue to provide an experience that we all can appreciate together and enjoy.

Well, we're half-way through the Spring 2022 Series (name still TBD, I guess) and I think I've done pretty well with keeping a regular upload schedule so far. Forgive me for taking a moment to pat myself on the back right now *Pat, pat*. This is the most organized I've been since I started uploading my work. Now, if you would kindly allow me to make a few announcements regarding the future of this series:

I'm giving up on regular uploads forever.

Okay, well, that's not really true. I've been taking another art course this month and it's starting to wind down to the final weeks, so with that in combination with my job and trying to finish these pieces my uploads might be slightly irregular. I still plan to at least try uploading a piece for this series every Friday until it’s finished, but school and work do come first at the moment. Once this class is over, July and August should be relatively open in terms of creating more things, so I hope I'll be able to keep a semi-regular upload schedule following this.

One other thing that I wanted to bring up in regards to the next art piece that I will be posting. I would like everyone to be aware that I will be tagging my next image post under a "mature" rating as it will be dealing heavily in themes of self-harm and suicide. I am stating this as a content warning for sensitive viewers, but also as a notification for those who still wish to view the series in its entirety to change their content settings appropriately if needed. I will also be putting content warnings on the upload itself to ensure that all of my audience is made aware of this.

Wow! I made some actual art pieces?! Holy s**t, it's about time!

Okay, so... the series I announced last month is going to be delayed a little longer. Trust me, I'm really disappointed that I can't share anything with you all right now. I've been working my ass of trying to get it done for this week, but one thing led to another and it's taking more time than I originally anticipated. I should be finished within the next week or two, I just want to make sure they're all up to quality for release.

In the meantime, I've posted another project from school that I finished and thought you guys might appreciate it. And it's Pokemon! Who doesn't love Pokemon??

Anyways, the series is still in the works at the moment but I'm planning to release it soon with a new piece to come out every week or so to help spread out the content a bit.

I know I'm a little late with this update, but school and work have been taking up a lot of my time lately so I haven't been able to work on a lot of personal pieces. Fortunately, one of my final projects is something I would really like to share with you all, so I'll be killing two birds with one stone with this. Over the next three weeks or so, I will be making a series of nine works featuring all three of my fursonas and my journey through mental health over these past years. I might be a little over ambitious with this one, but I'm really hoping that it's something that both you guys and I can appreciate together. I'm planning to release these pieces semi-regularly over time to at least close the gap between content a little bit more. As a forewarning, this series is probably going to feature some sensitive content, so just be aware of that.

In other news, I'm trying to make an organized system of what I need to get done for my other projects. As a said, a lot of my time has been taken up by other things, but I'm hoping this will at least help me to stay on track and prioritize instead of hopping from project to project and nothing getting done completely.

I'm really hoping to be able to get more content out soon, thank you for bearing with me as I try to improve the quality of this page!

God, I have so many projects lined up right now that it really will be a miracle if I ever finish them all.

Currently, I have some Changeling Tale pieces in the works right now, outlined and set up with models. Hopefully moving into the sketching phase soon, but now that I've figured out how to rig custom models in Blender my workflow should move a lot faster now.

I also have some plans involving my two OCs Ember and Emory. I've been trying to flesh out their designs and personalities a bit more, as I feel like the originals were a bit rushed in their creation. I don't have anything in terms of actual art, but I thought it would at least be interesting to share what notes I have on Ember's design.

So I decided I want to try doing these update things at least once a month. That way I can at least provide some more content for you guys without the pressure of needing to finish a piece every single month. I think for the time being these posts will contain a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff and sneak peeks at upcoming projects.

I also want to try to get some of my actual artwork published quicker, but I tend to have a hard time actually visualizing what I want even with reference images. That's why for the past month I've been learning how to use Blender, to sculpt/Frankenstein some basic-ish models that I can pose for whatever I may need.

I'm currently working on this anthro wolf model I have, although editing the mesh and adjusting the weight paint for the armature has proven more difficult than I imagined.

Anyway, that's what's going on in my world for now. I'll be sure to post more about these models as they progress, but I hope to be back to making 2-D art things as soon as possible.

Well... it's 2022 now. I'm doing significantly better than when I last posted, which was... a long time ago. I know I said I wanted to provide more content, and I am working on some new pieces, it's just unfortunate that a lot of my projects are at a much larger scale than I've ever done before. Hopefully progress will be quick and I can share with you all in the near future.


In the meantime, I'm going to try to fit in some smaller projects in between working on the large ones so that I can at least get something out. I'm in the process of working on a redraw of "Nothing Stays..." so look forward to that in the upcoming weeks.


I know my upload schedule is really screwed up and I'm extremely sorry about that. I have the task management skills of a golden retriever with ADHD. I'm slowly learning the ropes though and maybe I'll get regular uploads at some point. For now, I just hope you'll just stick around to see what I have in store.

So I know I haven't been active in a while (not that I was super regular with my uploads to begin with). My life and my mental health have been pretty complicated over these past few months and I've let things that are important to me slip through the cracks. I'm slowly trying to figure everything out and I want to continue creating things for the sake of my self expression and for the sake of all of you who like what I have to share.
