Posted 11 years agoYep, it's happening.
This account won't be deleted, but there will be no more new art posted here.
If you wanna keep on watching me, I'm now going to be uploading as
frostykatmonstur. I've already uploaded some new stuff there!
Cheers m8.

Thinking about moving accounts???
Posted 11 years agoI've started using frostykatmonstur as my name everywhere, and i like it a lot more than blackrathmar. Blackrathmar's served me well as a username for the past 5 years, but ehhhhhhhh I think I've finally outgrown it. It just kinda has an angsty connotation to me (probably because I started using it as an angsty 17 year old), and I'd like to move on to something that feels more like me.
DUNNO it probably seems like a trivial change, and like it's coming out of nowhere, but I really want my username to be uniform everywhere I'm active. I think it'd do me good to have a fresh start too and get away from my way old art.
What do you guys think? I'm not gonna lie, my main hesitation in moving accounts is that I've acquired a pretty nice watcher-base here, and I don't wanna lose that. Then again, I don't have all that many active watchers compared to my actual watcher total, sooooo maybe it wouldn't be a huge loss??? I dunno I'm just a little shy of 400 watchers but my work seems to consistently get >50 views soooooo...
Ahaha ANYWAY this is getting really really ramble-y so ima end it here. Leave me a comment if you have any strong feelings about me changing accounts (whether it be "yooo I'd totes re-watch" or "ehhhh please don't").

What do you want to see from me? (plush!)
Posted 11 years agoHey all! If you don't already know, I've recently started selling plush items on my Etsy store! You can find it here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/FrostykatCreations
I'm always thinking of new things I want to plush, but I also want to make things that you guys are interested.
So here's my questions to you: What would you like to see in my shop? This could be anything from another species you want available (ie: cats in the same style as my jumbo foxes), styles of plush (ie: smaller, "beanie" plushies), or something else (ie: Pokemon)!
I'm pretty much always open to suggestions, and I do plan to eventually start doing custom commissions; I just want to get some more practice in pattern drafting and general sewing techniques first.
Obviously, there's only so much time in a day and I can't use every suggestion I get, but if I see a lot of interest in a certain kind of plush or you suggest something that really gets my imagination going, there's a good chance you'll see it in the future!

Pillow Commissions are OPEN
Posted 11 years agoPillow Commissions:
Base price: $35 (USD)
What this gets you:
One custom made pillow, featuring a detailed fleece front. This detailed front can be a character’s face, or something else! The standard size of these pillows varies, but tends to be about 14''x14'' (35.5cm x 35.5 cm).
Things that may add to the price:
• Complex colors
• Extensive embroidery work (this is all done manually; I use a standard sewing machine for all of my work, not an embroidery machine)
• Multiple faces (ie: one character on the front, and another on the back)
• Pillows that are significantly different from the standard size (ie: a large, full character)
• Embroidery on the back of the pillow (such as writing or even a silhouette)
• Small, detailed embroidery (this is done by hand and is very difficult and time consuming!)
• Special materials (faux fur, etc.)
• Other special requests (ask!)
Shipping within the USA: $5 (USD)
International shipping: $10 (USD)
Payment process:
I prefer to use Paypal for commission work. DO NOT SEND MONEY TO MY ACCOUNT! I will send you an invoice for your payment.
I will require a down payment of $15 before I start working on your pillow. The rest of your payment will be required BEFORE I ship the finished product. I will send you a collection of photographs of your finished pillow before shipping to ensure the finished product is what you requested.
While I work:
When I am ready to begin working on your pillow, I will send you an invoice for the $15 down payment. I will then work with you on the details of your pillow’s design, including a sketch of the detailed front, and regarding the pattern of the fabric (ie: “The background fabric should have a space theme”) Once I begin working on your pillow, you are invited (and encouraged!) to contact me regarding the progress of your commission. I will ask you if you would like to receive progress photos, and can produce them upon request. I will also contact you regarding any decisions that will affect the final product (ie: use of a different material, the pattern of the pillow, etc).

WEASYL
Posted 11 years agoYUP here's another person semi-migrating away from here. If you're not on any of my other sites and still wanna keep up with my work, I'm not leaving here (yet??? dunno we'll see), so no worries.
I literally just made a weasyl account though, so if you're interested in following me there, go for it! It doesn't have much yet, but I'm hoping to be a bit more active on there.
Also, here's a handy list of all the places you can find me/my art:

Posted 11 years agoSORRY I KINDA VANISHED AGAIN WHOOPS
I'm bad at this whole keeping in touch thing.
Uhhh general life update I guess???
Things have been pretty awesome over here. Started hormone replacement therapy back in May, which has been great. Had a nice, easy semester, which just ended. Still can't believe I'm a senior what the fuuuuck??? Also, new cat. My friend found an injured kitten on campus, and one thing led to another, and now he's home in NY with me. His name's Wembley and he's my boy. I've always wanted a black cat too, haha. I just wish Maggie (big fluffy 9 1/2 year old cat) was a fan...
Ummmm I guess that's about it! All kinds of commissions are closed at the moment. I honestly haven't been doing much art recently, aside from a few doodles in my notebooks and sketchbook. I did finally draw something on my tablet last night (a little painting of Wembley). I'll probably post that a bit later.
Also, probably gonna end up disappearing again in a couple of weeks because I start student teaching aka NO FREE TIME! Aaaaaahhhhhh busybusybusy.
*flops on a bed*
HOW'RE Y'ALL DOIN'???

Obligatory New Year's Journal
Posted 12 years agoWOW-E we did it folks we climbed the whole mountain.
Beep beeeeeeeep
Posted 12 years agoOh hey-o. You may (or may not) have noticed that I've been posting art again. The semester's almost over (three more days of finals!), so I finally have the time to draw again.
This has been a really tough semester in a lot of ways. I came back to school and immediately found out that somebody very important to me was very sick, got thrown into a deep depression, took the hardest class I have to take for my major, fell behind on my work, had a panic attack at least once, started on anti-depressants, etc etc etc. I think I'm really pulling through now though! The anti-depressants seem to be working really well, that important person is recovering nicely, and classes are over (and I managed to get all my work in!).
Uhhhhh, and you also may or may not have noticed a few more personal changes. First off, fursona name change. Frostbite is now Ray (though Frost is still a nickname)... and "she" is now a "he."
"But Ray!" you may be saying. "That doesn't make sense! Aren't you a girl???"
That's what I thought too, confused stranger! But after quite a bit of "soul-searching" and confusion, I've finally realized I am transgender. i prefer to be referred to with male pronouns!
"But biologically you are still-"
Shhhhhhhhhhh no stop it's okay shoosh pap shoosh
"But you have a-"
SHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
...Carry on.

Yeah...
Posted 13 years agoI haven't really been doing much drawing or anything lately, and I haven't been doing much on either of my art site accounts.
This semester is just... really awful, and it's not even halfway done.
I won't go into much detail, but somebody really dear to me up at school is very very sick, and has been since the start of the semester. This combined with my usual depression has snowballed into a total lack of motivation and reduced me into a little ball of depression and anxiety who is barely even capable of functioning any more. I'm seeking help, so we'll see how that goes.
Just don't expect to see much of me for a while. I pop in from time to time to see if I have comments or anything like that, but I don't really check journals or submissions often. So if you're a friend whose art I comment on a lot, don't think I hate you or something if I'm suddenly not commenting on things. I'm just really stressed and looking at all the stuff in my inbox makes me even more stressed, so I don't do it much at the moment.
Uh... I guess that's about it. I might post art from time to time, but don't expect to see much of me for a while.

Oh word.
Posted 13 years agoI've been very on and off here recently, so sorry if any of my buddies have been up to cool stuff and I haven't noticed. I have over 800 submissions in my inbox and there's no way I'm going to have the time to look at all of that x.x
I'm back at school now, and I honestly have no idea how this will affect me as far as art goes??? On one hand I'll have way less time to draw (and won't be able to sculpt or anything because my supplies are back home in New York), but on the other time I'll be busy all day and I tend to be really productive when I'm busy. Plus I use art to relax after classes. So who knows. Maybe I'll even end up posting more than I did over the summer.
Uhhh, what else? As for general life updates, I got my first job over the summer, which was pretty nice. Exhausting as fuck, but WHOA MONEY WOW. Feeling pretty good to be back at school.
Also, I totally came out to my parents as agender. My mom actually took it pretty well (maybe just because she doesn't totally realize what it means yet), and I have no idea what my dad thinks about it. He probably doesn't. Either way, yaaaaay not feeling obligated to live a double life.
I'd say overall this has been the best summer I've had in a while by a landslide.
Anyway, how have all of you been? :3c

Sculpture commissions are CLOSED
Posted 13 years agoConsidering I go back to school in a little over a week, sculpture commissions are now closed. They will most likely be available again over winter break.
SCULPTURE COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN
Posted 13 years agoYes, I'm FINALLY ready to start taking commissions after talking about it for the past couple of months. This journal is about sculpture commissions ONLY. If you are interested in another kind of commission, feel free to ask/suggest.
I use Paypal, but I just set it up and have yet to use it, so bear with me.
I can ship anywhere. Shipping within the U.S. is $5, international shipping is $10.
Commission types~
Chibi-tastic mini-figures:
These little guys stand about 3'' (8cm) tall and feature adorable chibi proportions. I can do any species (human included), anthro or feral. For now, these guys start at $15 each, but this will more than likely increase soon!
Anthro example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8149156/
Feral example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8340820/
Medium sculptures:
These guys are much larger and more detailed than the chibi-tastic mini-figures, standing a little under 5'' (about 12cm) tall. They are more detailed, but still somewhat stylized. I can do any species (human included), but do keep in mind what species are my specialties. If I really think I might not be able to do your request justice, I'll let you know. They can be anthro or feral, and can be built with or without a stand (which may be simple or detailed. These sculptures start at $30, with stands starting at $2 (obviously can really vary based on detail. A $2 stand will be a plain, single colored slab).
Anthro example: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8149299/
Feral example: N/A
Stand example (simple): http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8340879/
Other sculptures:
I am open do doing commission types other than the two listed above. Feel free to contact me if you have something in mind! Pricing will depend on size, colors, and detail.
Charms:
I have limited experience making charms, but am willing to work on it if people are interested. Can be commissioned with or without necklace. Pricing will depend on size, colors, and detail. I can put it on a simple, hemp string necklace for $1 extra.
Examples: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8341059/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8408708/
REFERENCES:
References are good! The more references of your character you give me the better. After all, my work can only be as accurate as the references you give me.
PROGRESS SHOTS:
I like to make sure I'm doing everything to your satisfaction, so I will send you WIP throughout the process. I'll send you at least one picture before I bake the sculpture and at least one during/after painting.
PAYMENT:
When I get to your commission, I will ask for partial payment before I start working (though you can pay in full immediately if you'd like!). The commission must be payed for completely before I ship it.
DISCOUNTS:
I'm strongly considering giving discounts for customers ordering multiple sculptures, so keep this in mind if you want to order a few things! I'd rather you keep your orders to a maximum of 3 sculptures though.
Note: I have no idea how much interest this will get, so I'm not going to give a set amount of commission "slots." However, if I do end up getting a lot of customers, I may have to turn some people down for now. This is my first time taking commissions and I don't want to get in over my head.
Additional note: No mature art. Nope nope nope.
You can contact me at blackrathmar[at]gmail.com or via note. If you're asking for a commission, I'd very much prefer email over notes. It's much easier for me to keep track of things that way.
Let me know if you have any additional questions, or if I left something out like a space cadet.

COMMISSIONS ARE...
Posted 13 years ago...not open yet lololol :D
BUT, they will be relatively soon! I've set up a PayPal account (or I'm almost done at least, as I still have to confirm my bank account) and PO box. I'm super excited!
As for what I'll be offering: I'll be doing sculpture commissions, and hopefully plushie commissions (but that still needs a lot more preparation, so that won't happen immediately). The cheapest sculptures I'll be offering will be what I've dubbed "chibi-tastic mini-figures," which will be in a style similar to this: http://sfw.furaffinity.net/view/8052049/ I may also be offering slightly larger, less chibi sculptures for those who would like something a bit more detailed.
The chibi-tastic mini-figures will be $10 (though really complicated characters may add a dollar or two to the price).
I'm not sure how much the larger ones will cost yet. I still need to make a couple test sculpts. My estimate is $15-20.
*Do keep in mind that these are the prices without shipping*
Speaking of shipping, does anyone have any experience shipping things? I'm having some issues with the price. So far the cheapest I've been able to find to ship a package within the country is a little under $12, which is more than I'm charging for the sculpture itself! Is there something cheaper out there, or is shipping just really that expensive? I'd rather not have to charge $22 for a 3'' sculpture.
Also... should I take digital art commissions while I'm at it? What kinds of things would you like offered (ie: sketch commissions, speedpaints, etc)? No mature art.

Done (Also... commissions???)
Posted 13 years agoWelp, the semester is officially over for me. I'm back home in LI, kind of in a daze from suddenly going from perpetually busy to having no obligations. Weirddddd. I'm a bit worried about going into my usual summer blues, but right now I'm just glad to be home. This semester has been hell.
On a different note, I know I've had a few askers over the past few months, but... how many of you out there would be interested in commissioning me? I'm really strongly considering taking digital art commissions this summer once I get a paypal set up. Soooo, how 'bout it? Anyone out there potentially interested? I don't want to get ready for commissions if no one's interested.
I might even open plushie commissions if I can figure out some nice, customizable patterns, buuuut don't hold your breath. I was actually planning on doing that last summer, but I ended up getting into a funk and losing my motivation, and I don't want to get people's hopes up in case that happens again x.x
But yeah. Lemme know if you might be interested in commissioning me, and what you'd like to see me offer, be it digital art, plushie stuff, or maybe even clay sculptures. Throw me some ideas!
Oh, but no mature art. Just throwing that out there now. I'm pretty sure I've made it abundantly clear already that I don't do mature art, buuut just in case.

Posted 13 years agoI finally found the time to go through all of the stuff that's been sitting in my inbox. And I even posted a speed paint! Wowee!
This doesn't necessarily mean I'll be active on here again quite yet. The semester's not over yet, and as it slowly reaches its end, I'm going to be more busy than ever. I may at least be able to keep up with my inbox again, now that I don't have 3000 submission sitting in it. Oof. I still need to go through my DeviantArt inbox, which has around 11,000 things in it...
Long story short, this semester has been just... really bad. For starters, 2nd semester of sophomore year is the busiest (or 2nd busiest) semester for music majors. One class in particular has been causing myself and everyone else in the class plenty of grief, as the workload is intense and the instructor is anything but sympathetic. On top of that, I've been having major issues with my roommate (I'd rather not go into details) which have totally deteriorated my mental health and made me feel like I have no "safe place." It's gotten to the point where I've started seeing a therapist weekly. According to one person I saw, it sounds to them like I have several symptoms of dysthymia (a form of depression), which... makes a lot of sense.
So basically I've been in a really bad place lately. I've actually felt pretty good these past couple of days though. Maybe I'll take advantage of this quiet Friday night and do some more painting.
At least classes end on the 30th.

Inactivity
Posted 13 years agoJust an fyi. This semester has hit me like a ton of bricks for a variety of reasons and I'm finding it pretty hard to find the motivation to do just about anything. I haven't been keeping on top of messages other than comments/notes, so if you're one of my buddies and you've been posting some cool art and I haven't commented, don't take it personally; I went a good week or so without checking out submissions, so now there are a shit-ton of them and I feel too overwhelmed to sort through them all.
I'll be okay. Just don't be concerned if you don't see me around too much.

Back to school!
Posted 13 years agoI'm heading back up to Rhode Island in... shit. 6 hours. I should probably go to bed.
Buuuuuut yeah. Just a heads up that my art output will more than likely slow the fuck down because busybusybusy, and if it doesn't... tell me to get my ass in a practice room and do something productive with my "free time" >:C
*ollies outie*

DONE
Posted 13 years agoJust had my last exam and my flute jury (final for my lessons) today, and I am officially done for the semester, and I'll be heading home tomorrow! I think I did pretty well on my jury, and I finally get a break, which is quite nice. Happy happy joy joy ^.^
I'm pretty happy to have time to draw/craft again. Hell, I'm drawing right now XD I should probably get started on the little holiday gift arts I've been meaning to do, but... I just really really need to do some personal art. A bit selfish, considering I'll probably be late with the gift art as it is, but it's just been wayyyy too long since I've been able to work on something really cool for myself :x
I've actually got some fan art in the works, which is fairly uncommon for me (aside from Pokemon, but I don't really do too much Pokemon art either).
Ugh. Man, it's been a crazy busy semester, and it's only gonna get crazier from here. I hope all of my college watchers had a good semester! Happy Holidays everyone :3

The end is near!!!!11!1!
Posted 14 years ago...The end of the semester that is :B The 12th is my last day of classes, and then I've just got to hang around for finals until my last couple of exams on the 20th. In other words... I'LL ACTUALLY HAVE TIME TO DRAW OMGWTFBBQ <3 I have WIPs on my computer that are months old, and it's been bugging me for... well, months. I've also been drawing some "new" characters in my sketchbook. I say "new" in parenthesis because often times that just means that I've never drawn them before but have had their concept bouncing around in my head for years. But yeah. Hopefully I'll get to draw them digitally some time soon.
This past week has been crazy busy, but I've only got one more full week left before I can relax a little. BEEYAWWWWWWWWW! :D

Just sayin'
Posted 14 years agoSorry for the inactivity. The only time I ever really have time to draw is during certain classes in my sketchbook, and I rarely have time for digital art, hence the scarcity of posts lately. On top of being really busy, I've been a bit on the depressed side as of late, so I haven't had much motivation to draw. I'm hoping that changes soon. My mood tends to bounce around a lot, but I've been in a major emotional rut the past few days and just can't seem to get out of it.
This journal doesn't have much of a point. I guess just an explanation for my inactivity with a side of moping.
I hope you're all doing well.

Halloweeeeeeeeeen <3
Posted 14 years agoBest holiday <3 Halloween's the only holiday I really care for. I don't even care about the candy (not that I can eat most of it anyway. The pains of being vegan...). I just like dressing up! I'm going trick-or-treating with my friends tonight, dressed up as Crackle! (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5621020/) Yes, I'm in college. Only cool kids (er, young adults?) go trick-or-treating B)
Speaking of Crackle, I totally have a short video of him in action from a couple months ago that I keep forgetting to post on my youtube channel. Oops.
Bleh. I wish I had something Halloween related to post, but I've been waaaay too busy. Ahhh well. Generic journal will have to suffice.
Anyone out there doing anything cool tonight, or just chillin'? :3
