What's your take this?
General | Posted 16 years agoA lot of naysayers keep ragging on me about how the M113 Gavin APC is "not called the Gavin".
They claim that there are no US military publications or documentation in which the M113 is referred to as the Gavin (after the late General James Gavin), but then I produce this document, written and signed (by hand, no less) by the (then) Inspector General of the Department of Defense, complete with official stamps;
http://www.deviantart.com/users/out.....GAVINS2004.jpg
Yet, the naysayers STILL keep saying the M113 isn't officially referred to by this name, because no official publications or Field Manuals mention the name.
Without nagging on and on, what's YOUR take on this issue --- does the letter prove the M113 is officially named the Gavin?

General | Posted 16 years agoAnyone watching my progress on FA may have noticed that I haven't done anything here for a week. As it turns out, my computer was riddled with all sorts of Malware, and it simply stopped working.
I had to send it to a computer repair shop to get this 25lb paperweight fixed, and it turned out Windows was so badly damaged that it had to be reloaded entirely. Fortunately, all my data was intact, and all I had to do was re-connect to the Internets, and reload a few programs.
Unfortunately, there's one program I need that I don't have --- the software for my scanner. I can't seem to find the disk for it anywhere, so it may be a while before I can scan any artwork.
This really sucks, because I have a couple of really yiffy drawings bottled-up in my "Out Box" that I can't scan!
Nevertheless, I'm still working on Animated GIF slideshows and text documents that DON'T require a scanner to create, so I'll still be uploading stuff in the immediate future --- scanner or not.
In other news, check out my latest Youtube video;

General | Posted 16 years agoFirst, for those of you who wonder if I've "given-up" Furry Art, I've got two new Furry pics in the works.
Second, can anyone help me find some photos I need for an upcoming slide-show I have planned?
What I need are photographs of the following tanks, fitted with "Dozer Blades";
- SK-105 Kurassier
- PT-76
- Pz-61/Pz-68
- Challenger 1
- Merkava
- VC TAM
- AMX-56 LeClerc
- AMX-30
- Ariete
- K1A1
- Zulfiqar (HIGHLY unlikely, but still...)
- Sabra
- Arjun
- Type 80/Type 85
- Type 90/Al Khalid
- Type 96
- Type 98
- Type 99
- EE-T1 Osorio (even MORE unlikely)
In addition, these Eastern-Bloc tanks have a retractable Dozer Blade built into them, and I could REALLY use a photo of this blade in the extended position;
- T-62
- T-64
- T-72
- T-80
- T-84
- T-90 Vladimir
- PT-91 Twardy
- M-84 Degman
- M-95 Degman
- Asad Babil
- M-2001
- Chonma-ho
- P'okpoong-Ho
Also, let me clarify exactly WHAT a "Dozer Blade" is.
It's not a "Mine Roller"...
http://www.minowitz.com/minowitz/im.....neclearing.jpg
...and it's not a "Mine Plow"...
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_dXryBD1CzO4/R.....2006-0903a.jpg
It's just a blade, as the title implies;

General | Posted 17 years agoAs you can see, I've got a new Avatar (finally!).
Also, I have one new aircraft 3-view that's almost finished, and at least three furry pics in the works (ZOMG, the Stryker H8r still draws FURRY!!!).
Not a whole lot else to say, so I won't hold up anyone who reads this any further.
Peace-out!

"Furry World" Meme!
General | Posted 17 years agoJust when you thought it was safe to randomly browse FA, you collide with a meme. XD
I'm not certain who started it, but I picked it up from redwood.
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/redwood/
Now, before you read past this, there are three things to bear in mind;
First, have TWO worlds! So you can tell them apart, I'll label them 1) and 2), respectively.
Second, I intend to use both of these "worlds" as building blocks for stories. You may have already seen some stuff from them (!) on my channel, without ever realizing it.
Third, I have yet to post any actual stories/comics/epic movies/etc. ;) from these "worlds", so I won't give away any spoilers.
Now, ONWARD!
1. What is your furry world like?
1: This world is basically the end of the Cold War, gone terribly wrong. The theme may be familiar, but that's where the similarities end --- and you'll recognize NOTHING on the map!
2: In this world, it seems no different than the one you and I live in... but the map of the world you're all used to seeing LIES. >:D
2. Do humans exist in your furry world? If so, how do they treat/how are they treated by the furries?
1: Maybe. Maybe not. ;)
2: There are DEFINITELY Humans in this world, 6 Billion of them --- and they outnumber Furries 3-to-2. As for "how they treat Furries", that's a more interesting question than you might think...
3. Do non-morphic animals exist in your furry world? If so, how do they treat/how are they treated by the furries?
1: No.
2: No. Sorry dudes...
4. Do non-mammalian “furries” exist in your furry world? If so, how do they treat/how are they treated by the mammal-furries?
1: No.
2: No. Sorry again...
5. Do other mythological creatures (dragons etc.) exist in your furry world? If so, how do they treat/how are they treated by the furries?
1: No.
2: No.....?
6. Does Magic operate in your furry world? If so, rate its frequency and power on a scale of 1 to 10. (the higher the rating the more common and/or powerful magic is).
1: No.
2: No.
7. Describe the technology level of your furry world?
1: The same as RL early-1990s technology.
2: Essentially present-day technology, with certain "artificial" limitations. In fact, nearly every piece of technology are exact copies of machines that exist in real life, like the Ford Mustang for example.
8. On a scale of 1 to 10 how animal-like are furries in your world? (the higher the rating, the more animalistic the furries in your world).
1: Eight. This is the way I draw most of my Furry Art.
2: Six~Eight. It varies slightly --- and I will not yet reveal why!
9. How do the different furry “species” get along in your furry world?
1: Arguably better than Humans do, at least from a racial standpoint.
2: It varies... a LOT. Depending on which society is in question, it could be anywhere from universal tolerance, to... uh... "not-so-tolerant"...

Best Youtube video --- EVER.
General | Posted 17 years agoJEDsite needs your help!
General | Posted 17 years agoOne of my favorite websites --- JEDsite, a website with a truly awe-inspiring assortment of military photographs and weapon system information --- is about to go under!
This site is invaluable to everyone with an interest in military technology, and has info and images of nearly every ground system ever made; stuff you've NEVER heard of before, or probably since.
Because of this, it would be a disaster for the public domain if this site went down, as a great deal of information from this site can't be found anywhere else on the net --- possibly anywhere else AT ALL.
Have a look at the site and everything within to see for yourself just how much is there;
http://www.jedsite.info/content/jed1.html
If ANY of you have an interest in Military Science and can spare a few dollars, please consider making a donation to this site.
But whatever you do, do it FAST --- as of this posting, JEDsite has only TWENTY-SIX DAYS LEFT!!!
(If you like this site, please copy and paste this journal --- B.T.)

Duct Tape can fix ANYTHING!!!
General | Posted 17 years agoI've had a lot of problems with my PC lately, due to a bent prong on the plug for the monitor wire.
The prong was finally fixed, but now the graphics card is worn out --- a computer repair place tells me that it'll last 6 months to a year.
To get around the problem, I had to wiggle the plug up and down in the socket. That would clear the garbling from the screen (and prevent the display from crashing when not in "Safe Mode" O-:).
That trick stopped working after awhile, but I noticed that the garbling still stopped when the plug was lifted up. So, I DUCT-TAPED IT into the up position, and now the display is just fine!
Another day, another bullet dodged. XD

Video, Screenshots and Other Multimedia
Screenshots and/or video capture from movies, games, TV, anime, websites (including Fur Affinity) or any other visual media may only be posted if the Submission contains user created content. “User created content” is defined as items of artistic interest created by the user (e.g. texture maps, 3D meshes, background images, animated characters, interfaces, etc.). Pre-generated characters (e.g. World of Warcraft avatars) and art or characters created by “character generators” are not permitted.
Minor alterations, such as adding text, word balloons or applying filters to screenshots do not count as user created content. This also applies to segments of screenshots modified and removed (e.g. “pixel art”) using art directly from games.
That's all total BS, given all the other photos I've posted in my galley that were left there.
Still, I'm not dump enough to try to re-post it --- "Big Mama" will give ME the boot if I did that.
So, here's a link to the image a site that (to the best of my knowledge) hasn't cracked down on it yet;

Looking for aircraft info...
General | Posted 17 years agoIn case you're wondering, I'm still obsessed with FFs (Fuel Fractions).
I'm trying to create as thorough a list of FFs for older fighter/attacker aircraft as possible, but I've run into a snag --- there are a lot of aircraft that I cannot find the fuel capacities for!
I'd appreciate if if anyone could tell me how much fuel any of the following aircraft carry.
Easy(?) ones:
P-59 Airacomet
F-9 Panther
F-10 Skyknight
A-5A Vigilante
Sea Hawk
Delta II
Swift
Sea Vixen
Javelin
Ouragan
Mystere
Mystere IV
CF-100 Canuk
He-280
Not-so-easy ones:
YA-9
Attacker
Mirage I
J-8I Finback-A
Yak-25 Flashlight
Good Luck with these...:
J-9
Arie
CAVA
Novi Avion
XF-108 Rapier
YF-109 Trident

History of the Vietnam War!
General | Posted 17 years agoThis is my first ACTUAL update on anything in more than half a year!
As the title suggests, I'm currently enrolled in a "History of the Vietnam War" course at my local college.
I've taken a class with the teacher before. He's a combat veteran himself, and an excellent professor who invariably attracts very intelligent people to him (in my previous class with him, one of his students was an accomplished journalist from Belarus). I have a lot of respect for him.
The main reason I'm taking this class is because it's an easy A+ (if you've been following my "Defense Briefs", you won't be surprised). But mostly,it's because I get a free ride --- instead of having to research all those subjects on my own, I can kick back and have it LECTURED TO ME!
That's not to say I won't be doing any work myself, as the professor expects homework assignments turned in and quizzes passed.
Gee, that'll be sooooo boring.
I already know a great deal about the Vietnam War that you won't read in any history book, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.
As the title suggests, I'm currently enrolled in a "History of the Vietnam War" course at my local college.

MREs!
General | Posted 17 years agoI've had the privilege to try some of the food that American Troops eat while deployed, a type of laminated foil-packed field ration best known as the "Meal, Ready-to-Eat" or "MRE".
I bought them from a local surplus store, and while most are meals that are offered by civilian MRE manufacturers (who make MREs for emergency use, disaster relief, mercenaries, wanna-bees, etc.), some are not on the menus for the civilian suppliers --- they might have been real GI MREs!
Having tried a lot of MRE dishes, I've decided to post a review of how they turned out when I opened the packets to eat them.
Troops, backpackers, and paint-ball players take note; this is what you can (likely) expect whn you open them up to eat them!
BEEF STEW
Quality:10/10
This was VERY good, kind of like Dinty Moore Beef Stew, but in a pouch rather than a can. The only Beef Stew that's any better is homemade beef stew!
CREAMY CHICKEN TETRAZZINI
Quality:4/10
It was OK, but that's about it --- not a meal I'd look forward to at the end of the day.
The Flavor was VERY bland, the texture mushy, and the chicken seemed to be the only ingredient with and flavor (or texture).
Not all that good.
CHICKEN WITH CHUNKY SALSA
Quality:4/10
It has some nice ingredients and a good texture...
...but it's watery, too tomatoey, and easily the blandest MRE entree I've yet eaten.
Bleh!
MEATBALLS IN MARINARA
Quality:10/10
This was incredible! I was really surprised at just how good it was --- it's just like the meatballs and marinara sauce made by Subway restaurants!
If you're lucky enough to have any bread with you while eating this culinary delight, be sure to make a sandwich with it (or at least dip it in the sauce).
I highly recommend it,
MEXICAN-STYLE MACARONI AND CHEESE
Quality: 6/10
It's a bit plain, but the flavor and texture aren't bad --- as long as you heat it first.
On the down side, it's actually a bit TOO spicy, and all those chili seeds have to be spit-out constantly.
It was the standard side-dish of ALL the MREs that actually HAD a side-dish, but it's only a filler at best.
VEGETABLE OMELET WITH CHEESE
Quality:1/10
It was DISGUSTING! One of the worst-tasting things I ever ate!
Both the flavor and texture are flat-out NASTY, and it looks like it was packed in the Reagan years (maybe it was --- word has it that the Army "re-issues" some of it's MREs every now and then, in order to meet command expectations of quantity).
I only gave it a one because of TWO reasons; it sat well without making me sick, and like all MREs, it NEVER spoils.
In short; it's good to fill your stomach... but eat it early-on, and save better entrees for later!
VEGETABLE PATTY IN BARBEQUE SAUCE
Quality:10/10
I was very surprised at this one --- it was delicious!
It's flavor, texture, and even aroma are all highly desirable. Even the sauce is very good.
The only regret I had when I ate it, was that I didn't have a SECOND helping!
It's also a Vegan dish, so it should be palatable to almost anyone.
Highly recommended.
CHICKEN CAVATELLI
Quality: 9/10
This consists of a chicken breast in a tomato sauce with mushrooms and something called "rib meat"
It's quite delicious and has a pretty good texture, but "rib meat" sounds very cryptic to me; it's probably just chicken rib meat, but you can't help but wonder.
It's very good, and I'd take it with me on any camping trip --- or to WAR!
CHICKEN WITH DUMPLINGS
Quality:7/10
I found this to be thick, creamy, and... bland. The dumplings were a bit mushy as well, and the gravy had a somewhat sickly color..
Otherwise, I would have given it a higher rating.
It's OK, but skip it unless you either want to try it, or if better alternatives are available.
HDR RATION CRACKERS
Quality:10/10
These come wrapped in a VERY TOUGH laminated foil packet, and are LOADED with vital nutrients. They have a great flavor to them, and a nice and very unique texture --- not soft or crunch, but more like "munchy".
This type of ration was designed for the Humanitarian Daily Ration (HDR), hence the title, and was designed primarily to combat starvation rather than provide regular meals. None the less, it's good with jelly, gravy, or sauces over it --- as a complement to other dishes --- or by itself as a snack to eat while on a march.
The best part is; it's very satisfying to eat (if not filling), but doesn't make you want to eat lots of them, as though they were popcorn.
In short, the HDR cracker is awesome.
RYE CRACKERS
Quality:10/10
These are crisp, delicious, satisfying, and they complement almost any dish very well.
My only regret is that I cannot buy these at my local grocery stores.
Highly recommended!
NEW MILLENNIUM ENERGY BARS
Quality:1/10
These are utter CRAP. Don't eat them unless you are starving, and have nothing else!
They have a creepy smell to them, don't taste terribly fresh. They look like plaster, and that's the consistency of them.
It has way, way, WAAAAAAAAAYYYY too much sugar in it, tons of artificial sweeteners, and has virtually NO FRUIT CONTENT, despite being FRUIT-FLAVORED (the "Tropical Fruits" bar had no fruit pulp or juice, other than coconut shavings!).
They'll make you body temperature spike, give you NO ENERGY, and them make you tired and eventually sick to your stomach ---guaranteed.
The package is also VERY hard to open --- that's the best part!
FIG BAR
Quality:8/10
It's kind of like n over-sized "Fig Newton" bar, and has a fig paste filling.
It's soft, chewy, sweet, nutritious, and it keeps.
Good stuff.
TOASTER PASTRY
Quality:7/10
Will somebody PLEASE tell the DoD that US Troops don't carry toasters into the field!
Seriously though, you can cook it with a ration heater (see below). It's similar to a cinnamon "Pop Tart", and it's soft, chewy, and sweet. VERY sweet. As in, "don't spread grape jelly over it, like I did" sweet.
If only the Omelet were any good, this would be a perfect side...
GRAPE JELLY
Quality:8/10
This is basically identical to the grape jelly packets you find at restaurants.
It's a good spread for Rye or HDR crackers, or you could just eat it out of the packet if you're on a march.
It tastes pretty good and it'll give you some extra energy... but otherwise it's basically just ordinary grape jelly.
FLAMELESS RATION HEATER
Quality: Deadly --- DO NOT EAT!!!
It looks a bit like a graham cracker, but it's full of poisonous and corrosive chemicals, and should NOT be eaten no matter what!
Follow the directions on the package in order to use it to cook an MRE packet --- without ever starting a fire!
All you need is fresh water, an unused MRE heater, and an MRE packet.
Just be sure to keep any significant source of heat --- such as open flame or exposed electical wiring --- FAR from this ration, as one of the by-products of the heating process is Hydrogen gas, which can EXPLODE!
That's all of the MREs that I've tried thus far. Let me know if you have any questions about them, or if there's a specific MRE entree you'd like me to try/be your guinea-pig for.
XD

The first ten people who comment - and have art of their own in their galleries :) - will be featured here along with three of my favourite pieces by them.

Few other FA members create aircraft like yours, and that is my focus of my selection.

This design, out of all the others you have created, impresses me the most.
2- http://www.furaffinity.net/view/787983/
This 3/4-view F-108 Rapier is your best and most professional-looking drawing yet.
3- http://www.furaffinity.net/view/932518/
This one is mentioned here for the most important reason of all --- it depicts a B-70 Valkyrie!

Looks like an IMI Desert Eagle pistol, with an extended magazine --- which in turn means extended capping!

Gotta love those concept aircraft!
The first ten people who comment - and have art of their own in their galleries :) - will be featured here along with three of my favourite pieces by them.
varus-argoFew other FA members create aircraft like yours, and that is my focus of my selection.

This design, out of all the others you have created, impresses me the most.

General | Posted 18 years agoIt's a new year, and I'm as swamped with needed and desired tasks-to-do as ever. I have several vehicle-related art projects I'm currently working on, but I REALLY need to draw some new Furry art, as not only am I not content with resting on my laurels, but this site is primarily a Furry art gallery to begin with!
That's pretty much my present status, so on to some news;
Furry Art
Still seriously lacking in my FA gallery, but I've got a few ideas...
Aircraft 3-views
I'm presently working on the following schematics:
- F/A-37 Strega
- FA17A1
- F3A1
- A17A1
- Type 325 Espadon
- "Osker"
I can't say for sure when all of these will be ready, but I'm making more progress on the F/A-37 Strega than the others.
- B14A1
School
I'm about to start a new semester of college, and with most of my transfer requirements already achieved, I have to re-take the classes I'm worst at; Math, and a Foreign Language.
*shudders*
Youtube
Last, but DEFINITELY not least, I now have a Youtube account --- I've also posted my first-ever video. You can watch it via this link!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebvm6UsLdO0
I've also been posting a lot of comments, giving my two cents on several modern videos of weapon systems. In doing so, I seem to have acquired a certain level of notoriety.
I heavily favor most of the military science philosophies of Mike Sparks, who has two accounts on Youtube ("nomorenarcissism" and "dynamicpara"), and because of this (and the fact that I post actual arguments, and not mindless bravado and service-worship) I seem to be chewed out by the "Kill Mike Sparks Club" several dozen times a day.
It's true that Mike is a bit nutty (and ruthlessly mean), but these guys are insane in the membrane! Seriously, look at how they respond to my queries and arguments, and compare thier videos of Mike-bashing to HIS videos, and see for yourself just how demented they are with your own eyes --- their demented, predatory zeal has to be seen to be believed.
They even think I'm just an alias of Mike Sparks!!!!!
LOL!

General | Posted 18 years agoIt's been AGES since my last journal, but I've been busy with school, family, bills, and all sorts of other such glorious things.
Though I have greatly neglected my furry art, it is only a matter of time before I (finally) begin uploading new furry works.
Iin the mean time, however, it has come to my attention that several works of Thoth (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/258742/) have been rudely stolen by Admin --- most of the photos he made them out of were "public domain", and in case anyone reading this journal doesn't know what that means, here is the definition; http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/public_domain
To put it in simpler terms, such material is no more "not your own work, that you yourself created" (i.e., intellectual property) than the paper most artists on this site draw on --- no more than language you speak, the air you breathe, or the ideas that you think of.
There is no technically, legally, morally, or rationally valid reason to ban creative works made from such material --- it's a worthless technicality that serves only to drive artists away from FA, and atract negative publicity.
Not being one to expect others to "do as I say, not as I do", here is a complete list of my works made from public domain images (even if only partially);
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/944960/

While we're taking big risks, here are a few of my works that contain the intellectual property of others, made without thier knowledge;

I strongly encourage other FA members to do the same as me, to show Admin just how large of a percentage of thier site they will have to erase to avoid being complete and utter hipocrites...
...or, change thier rules to conform to physical reality.

General | Posted 18 years agoWell, Iv'e finally completed the new drawings, and both have been uploaded. It isn't easy for me to create furry art though; the people I live around are some of the most artless individuals imaginable, and they constantly sap my inspiration and ideas --- you only need to be dragged away from an initial sketch 3 or 4 times before it's even half finished, before you permanantly lose interest. Almost two thirds of my ideas end up "atrophieing" like this before they can fully take shape. Nonetheless, I'm still a committed furry artist, and I swear that I won't go "Lim Guo Liang" on all of you.
For all I go through to create my art, however, I still have my sanity, unlike countless other artists under these sort of stresses. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to catch a train to Jupiter, where I'm going hunt Jellyfish with a flyswatter.

General | Posted 18 years agoI've almost completed my Political Science class, and it seems I'm going to get a solid A! It seems that pain-in-the-ass research paper wasn't a complete waste of time after all!
With that out of the way, I can devote more time and effort into my art. Those of you watching my progress via my art uploads have probably noticed that I have had a relatively slow output of furry art over the past month or two.
My inspiration had basically geared itself toward Aircraft design, and thus my furry art nas fallen into neglect, but not for long --- I am presently drawing two new pieces, and I plan to draw several more by the end of the week.
So stay tuned!
