Story Updates
Posted 13 years agoShort and sweet this time. You know that Renama-ma sequal I've been promising for so long? Well it's finally done. As soon as I hear back from my proofreader I'll post it so hang in there.
In other news, I'm brainstorming a short Digimon WG story and trying to come up with an original digimon based on sweets (cakes, cookies, candy etc). I actually have a decent name thought out for the thing, Okashimon, but I'm still trying to decide what it can do. If anyone would like to toss an idea out I'll be sure to thank you when the story is complete.

Writing Tips
Posted 13 years agoBefore I start I need to point out that this journal is more or less for my own benefit. Anyone who follows me might have noticed I can be kind of...horrible when it comes to longer stories. I start off decently but more often than not I end up stuck. Lost Tiger, Masked Angel, even the Renama-ma sequel I've been promising. It's mainly writer's block but at the same time I just have a hard time sitting down and getting things done. So the following are a few tips I've learned from my own experience with dealing with issues any author might face. I'm no expert or professional on the subject but I hope they're helpful. So future me, I know you're going to read this, take note and get your lazy ass back to work!
1 - Don't try to be perfect. When writing a rough draft it's quanity over quality. When that muse hits you, open Word and get down as much as possible while your brain is working. There will always be time to revise spelling and grammar and having a beta reader will make it easier to catch what mistakes you miss. And if anything slips through the cracks they were either too minor to notice or some of your readers will point them out for you. An author is their own worse critic and a BIG problem I personally have is that I constantly over-criticize my own work and end up frustrating myself. As long as the story is legible and enjoyable it doesn't have to be perfect.
2 - Don't work on one story at a time. If you're currently writing Story A and suddenly come up with a good idea for Story B don't wait, get the idea down on paper or work on that one before you lose it. I'm slowly getting over this problem but it's still an issue. I always tell myself I'll finish this first then I'll work on that one and so on and so forth. If you're having trouble with one story try working on another or even start up a new one-shot just to keep your creative juices flowing. Trust me, once they stop it's hard to get it running again.
3 - Relax, don't stress yourself out. Here's where I expose myself as a paranoid nutcase. As many of you already know ACTA was recently rejected in Europe. Why do I mention this? Because, just like SOPA, PIPA and now CISPA (though the last one has at least been modified to be more acceptable) I had been flipping out about it. I constantly stress myself out about things like this. I check a certain news site at least 10 times a day, always expecting more bad news and it is NOT good for me. Naturally this can apply to anything stressful in your life, I'm mearly using myself as the example. There will always be crap like this going around and letting it freak you out and keep you from enjoying yourself is a lousy way to live. Don't worry about what COULD happen 3 years down the line. Keep an eye on it sure, but don't let it get to you. I write because it's fun. I'm sure alot of other authors and artists do what they do for the same reason. So...
4 - Have fun. If you have to force yourself to write, if you don't enjoy doing it then no one wins. The final product probably won't be nearly as good as it could have been and you'll end up even more frustrated than before. So relax, listen to some music, pop in a movie and just let it come naturally. Going back to Tip 1 you're not looking for perfecting, you're trying to entertain and get better at something you enjoy. Don't let fun turn into a chore.
Well once again I've said my piece. Future me, and any other authors/artists reading this take these tips to heart. As long as one person out there enjoys what you do there's no reason to give up on it.

Master-student Relationship
Posted 13 years agoWhile reading a fanfiction earlier, I started thinking a little about how training, specifically martial arts training is portrayed in movies. See if this sounds familiar; a young student goes to train with a grumpy and irritable old man so he can avenge his family/protect his villiage/regain his honor etc. The training is harsh and potentially crippling, both physically and mentally, and the master generally treats his student like dirt. However, over time the student starts to improve and the master seems to warm up to him as a mutual respect grows between them. By the end the master is like a second father for the student and in turn the student like a son to the master.
And to be honest...I never really got it. No matter how many times I've seen it, in dozens of movies, I just couldn't understand where the transition happened. I suppose you could argue that the master's initial coldness and harsh methods were to see if the student was truely commited to learning, while building up muscle at the same time. After all if the student is just a slaker who'll quit when things get rough he isn't worth the time right? (Of course that doesn't apply to teachers who take students against their will such as So Hai from Drunken Master and Lei Mu Bai from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon).
...okay, I think I might have answered my own question up there but it still kinda vexes me. Take Shifu from Kung Fu Panda for example. Anyone who's seen the first movie can agree he was a smug, condescending bastard to just about everyone (except Oogway of course). Despite this, Po still worships the guy and puts up with his abuse because of that and the Five, despite being heroes and great fighters, seem to get nothing but verbal abuse from the guy. (And the ONE time we see him say something nice it's because he thinks he's about to die.) Granted, the movie didn't exatly show him during his best days but I still sit back and smile everytime I watch Tai Lung call him out and kick his tail while doing it.
Anyway, here's my main point; the biggest hurdle I have with my story Lost Tiger is which side of the fence I want Tigress on when it comes to Shifu. Somedays I want her to think of him as the father figure she never had and others I want her bitter and spiteful that she wound up with nothing after all the abuse she took from him (From her perspective mind you). The TV series doesn't really help. While she seems closer to Shifu, actually admitting he's like a father to her, she'll still obey his every command like a trained pet. She's also still very hostile towards Po and he doesn't help matters by being a boastful, over powered jerk in some episodes. So should the story end with a "There's no place like home" scenario or with Tigress verbally and/or physically thrashing Shifu and Po before she realizes how much her 'death' affected them? As of now I can pull off either but I'd like to start fleshing out her character so it slowly leads up to the climax. *sighs* Glad to get all that off my chest. If anyone made it through all that text, thank you. Sometimes you just need to vent but any advice would be appreciated.

Some updates
Posted 13 years agoOkay I'll keep this short and sweet. I'm still writing stuff, just nothing really worth posting here yet. I do have other things in the works that should be up soon. I also want to note my writing habits have gotten a little better. I'm not as meticulous about it as I used to be. Before I would focus on one story at a time and write it from start to finish without skipping, even if I get stuck. This was a big reason it took so much time to get things out. Anyway, here's what I'm working on and, if you should care, where to find them.
'Rainy Days' My Little Pony short story- Something I did spur of the moment while depressed. Just a short 'feel good' story with Rainbow Dash and Celestia. Complete and on FiMfiction.net.
Renama-ma Gaiden: Yes this is still happening and yes I'm very close to finishing the first instalment. I'm calling it Gaiden because it won't really have a single storyline, instead it'll be a series of one-shot stories. I have an idea for the second 'chapter' and I'm willing to take requests. Not yet posted.
Lost Tiger: Yeah, I still ove Kung Fu Panda. I'm loving the TV series and I really really want to work on chapter 6. I pretty much have the whole thing outlined, I just can't get motivated to actually do it. Sorry folks, please be patient.
Aside from these and a large crossover fanfic I'm working on I also want to try and write a short story about the nightmare I had a while ago (See previous journal) along with any other weird ideas that pop into my head.

Updates, new story and MLP review
Posted 14 years agoSo yeah, I'm not dead. I know I've been practically silent for quite a while (Again) but there's is a good reason for it, several in fact. One; I've been very very depressed, mainly over all this SOPA business, and have not been sleeping well. 2; Still suffering from writer's block, which made the depressions worse. 3; I recently got my copy of ESV Skyrim, enough said.
Now that I'm finished making excuses, here is my update and a little item review for you all. First off, yes I am starting to write again, though none of my ongoing stories. I'm actually starting up a new one just for fun and to get it out of my system. I won't go into exact details but I, just for fun here's a few storys I had to reject before finally on writing something. These are stories that I came up with a concept for, thought up a few scenes...but just couldn't really flesh out enough for whole stories.
-Red Dead Redemption crossover with Aliens vs Predator: Basically the Undead Nightmare storyline with xenomorphs instead of zombies and a climax featruring John Marston blasting away at the Alien Queen with a Gattling gun.
-Kim Possible enters the world of Final Fantasy (Not a canon one but something of a mix of 6 and 12 setting wise) and has to find the 4 crystals so she can get home.
-A Dungeons and Dragons adventure set in a vast ocean world similar to Zelda: Wind Waker. Basically this one would have been my D&D campagin writen out. This once got cancelled when I started planning it out and realized my skill as a DM is suspect at best. And finally...
-Princess Luna from MLP invents a tabletop game. This was partially inspired by the story 'Ponies Play D&D' which is alot of fun to read. However, as I was writing the story and coming up with the rules for the game I discovered that what I came up with was very similar to the Warhammer 40K tabletop game with a little Fire Emblem thrown in. And seeing as I still have little-clue how 40K works and suck at Fire Emblem I hit a roadblock shortly thereafter.
And thats a little glimpse at the kinds of ideas I get in my head. Most seem decent but others I really just need to keep in check.
Alright now for something fun! My Little Pony blind bags! Yes, I heard these were finally arriving stateside and picked one up at my local Wal-Mart only a few hours ago. Each package cost about $2 and contains one pony figure, a matching character card and a small fold out list of the other figuires in the set. There are 26 characters total, including the Mane Six, and 3 additional figures not listed. Not counting the Mane Six, there are 6 unicorns (3 repaints of Twilight and 3 or Rarity) 7 earth Ponies (3 repaints of Pinkie and 4 of Applejack) and only 2 pegasai (Both repaints of Rainbow Dash, even Fluttershy is a repaint of her sadly). The figures are packaged randomly but I've heard that the codes engraved on the front of the package and on the cards tell you who's inside. Can anyone confirm this? If so I'll add the code for the one I got for anyone looking to complete the set.
Alright, I think I've rabbled on enough to remind you all how crazy and unstable I am. See you all around, hope everyone is having a great year so far and be sure to write to your representatives about SOPA and sign some petitions as well. Going now! ^^

Lost Tiger and other updates (reposted)
Posted 14 years agoFirst off I'm going to try putting myself on some-what of schedule. Here's what you can look forward to from me in the near future:
Lost Tiger Ch. 6.
StarPup reboot
Renama-ma sequal, Working name; 'Baby Day at the Beach'
Secondly I feel like I should explain why I've been taking so long with my stories, Lost Tiger in particular. The truth is it's not really writer's block, I have tons of ideas and as I've said before I pretty much know how I want the entire story to play out. The problem is I drive myself crazy over little, very minor things in the story I end up frustrating myself. Or to put it simply 'The devil is in the details.' For one thing back in chapter 3 I spent a good 4 hours trying to research the difference between Chinese and Japanese buildings, that should give you some idea of how insane I am about this stuff. I stress myself out about the tiny details, such as the correct names for wooden sandals (geta if you're curious), to the point that I don't want to write and that's really what's holding this up. Another problem is how to 'start' writing. The first few lines of a chapter always give me problems without fail. Thankfully I plan to be a bit more relaxed about this in the future.
The fights are a minor issue but it bears mentioning. I'm no martial artist but I do read books on the subject and of course I adore kung fu and samurai movies so I can at least describe certain moves and techniques. The problem comes when I want to make a fight climactic or exciting. So far in Lost Tiger most of the fights have been fairly short and/or one-sided, mainly because until now Tigress' opponents have been, well...idiots. But now I'm building up to a fight between her and a highly skilled swordsman which makes it a little more difficult since Tigress doesn't use weapons. Again, I have thought of a way for the fight to go so no real worries about that. My biggest problem is with...backstory.
Part of the fun when I write is that I get to create all sorts of OCs for the story. However the down side of that is I tend to go way overboard with their history and backstories. A good example is the killer Tigress is going to face off against. I want him to have a good motive for what he's doing but I also want it to be simple so I don't take half a page trying to explain it. (Of course it would probably end up being no longer than a paragraph, have I mentioned I'm insane?). Other characters, such as Sanji if you haven't guessed, have a very detailed backstory that would take at least half a chapter to completely tell but I'm worried if I do that I'll bore my readers.
As I said earler I have been working to get over these problems and with any luck I'll be able to start getting things done soon. This was really just my way of apologizing to my readers and trying to exaplin myself. I thank you all for your patience and I hope you'll stick with me. Take care all ^^

Renama-ma sequal
Posted 14 years agoI've been thinking about doing a follow up for Renama-ma for a while and since Lost Tiger's giving me a little trouble (I'm trying, I really am) I figured now would be a good time to start, you know to rest my mind and just have some fun. But first I need a little help. I have a few ideas on what to do with it but I decided, hey, you guys are the ones who are gonna read it so I let anyone who wants give their two cents on it. An suggestions for activities, kinks, pranks or even a new villian is welcome. However, I am going to have some limits on this. If you've read Renama-ma then you'll have an idea about the tone I'd like to have for the story but I am hoping to push it a little; for example having Rika and/or Renamon actually USE a diaper instead of just wearing one and being cute or an actual spanking. So yeah nothing to extreme but if you have an idea, let her rip. ^_^
Gundam Wing/Final Fantasy 9 rant
Posted 14 years agoSo recently I've been wanting to re-watch Gundam Wing again. It was the first Gundam series I ever saw (and the best I've seen to be honest) and I was lucky enough to find the series on DVD. However, as silly as this is going to sound, I can't bring myself to watch it. And I know the exact reason: Lady Une. I hate her with every fiber of my being. I found her to be the most despicable and vile character in the series and I wanted her to suffer a horrible, preferably painful death. But this never happened. For those of you who haven't seen the series, go see it it's good, here's a short list of her crimes. She murdered the lead female's father, tried to have her killed as well and held an entire colony hostage to force the hero's to surrender all with a smug grin on her face. Yet somehow, someway she ended up turning face halfway through the series and everyone was willing to treat her as an ally. I don't even think she apologizes to Relina even after saving her life (Seriously did she show any remorse at all towards her?). I guess I'm just not the forgiving type, I can't stand characters that do terrible, horrifying things and then suddenly 'come to their senses.'
While I'm at it, I feel the same way about Beatrix in FF9. She helped her queen commit genocide, twice, and takes out all the heroes single handedly, three times at least, and THEN decides she might be on the wrong side. Honestly I'd probably respect her more if she stood her ground and was killed by the heroes, at least then I'd consider her a loyal soldier to the end. But no. She helped kill countless people, nearly wiping out Freya's entire RACE, and switches sides cause her princess is in danger or some sh@! like that. Not to mention, again my memory of this isn't perfect so correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think even Freya holds a grudge against her. Again if they had at least included a scene where she offered to let Freya kill her I'd be a little more accepting. Nope, kills most her race, sees the light, let's team up.
Again, I admit I'm not a total expert on either of these series. But I like them, I like them alot. These charaters and their arcs just leave a bad taste in my mouth that keeps me from enjoying them as much as I should. I can't finish FF9 because Beatrix's turn ticked me off so much, just like I can't watch Gundam Wing again because I know Une's scenes will tick me off. *sighs* Oh well. Thank you for listening to my bitter rantings.
Edit: I recently discovered that Une did indeed give relina a chance to get revenge, and that she suffered from a split personality. This did change my view of her, slightly, and in all honesty I can understand her tact in holding the colonies hostage, dispicable as it is. Basically it's a extension of a philosophy about war; "Don't attack someone unless you're prepared to be attacked in return."

Kung Fu Panda 2 is AWESOME!!
Posted 14 years agoI just got back from the threater and I swear I'm still lightheaded. I planned on seeing it in 2D but it turns out my theater only had 3D so it cost 9 more dollars than I expected (My mom and a little girl from the neighboorhood came with me) but it was well worth it. The 3D was amazing, and this is from someone who's never seen a 3D movie in theaters before. The movie was action-packed, intense, heartwarming and at times heartbreaking (I am not ashamed to say I cried...twice). If you have any reservations about seeing it toss them out, RIGHT NOW!! If you liked the first movie, ANY Shaw Brother's kung fu movies, or just want to have a great time; See this movie, you will not regret it.
Wow, I feel old...OR DO I!?
Posted 14 years agoHey everyone! So yeah today's my birthday! I usually don't like to make a big deal out of this but I'm trying to cheer myself up. I've had a pretty rough few days but I think I'm getting past it. I figured I should just try and enjoy myself instead of moping around the house. The fact that Kung Fu Panda 2 is coming out in one week helps too. XD Anyway, might as well give an update while I'm at this. I'm still working on my fic, though by 'working' I mean thinking about it and trying to get in the mood to write, and I'm planning on doing that 'History of the Shichigoro Clan' thing too, maybe with Po as a narrator. That's about all I have to report! Take care everyone, Love you! *chu* ^_^
Lucky Day ^^
Posted 15 years agoYesterday I was looking around Best Buy, not really for anything in particular but to passs some time, and I found a double feature DVD of Rebith of Mothra I and II! I had pretty much given up hope of ever finding copies these movies and I was really excited when I saw them. Mothra has always been my favorite kaiju, in fact I think Godzilla vs Mothra (or Godzilla vs the Thing) was the first godzila movie I ever saw. Both movies were great, even better then I expected, and I'm not ashamed to say I got teary eyed AND chills when the two fairies sang to summon Mothra. If you're a fan of Mothra or kaiju movies in general I highly recommend both of these.
Stories Redone-Easier to read
Posted 15 years agoI decided to re-do how I submitted my stories to make them easier to see. I basically just CPed each one into the author comments section but I think it works alot better that way. Yes, I know that's probably what I should have done in the first place and I feel kind of silly for not figuring that out but at least now you can read them without downloading the file. :P
