[ATTENTION] DEAD ACCOUNT
Posted 13 years ago[Attention] FA Account stuff.
Posted 15 years agoThe cleanup of the
blickfen gallery is finally done. With it, and taking stock of the activity/response on this account, I am very close to declaring the account switch a failure and just resuming business as normal on
blickfen while maintaining
blinkingmonster to keep track of watches and submissions and faves blah blah blah.
Originally, I switched accounts because (1) I wanted to distance myself from the BlickFen name because I don't particularly adore it anymore, and (2) paranoia regarding potential employers seeing furry pronz (3) I didn't want to go through the pain-in-the-ass job of deleting the crappy stuff in my gallery that I could not bear to look at.
At this point in time I can live with the name, and I now have(!) a job, and things went on without a hitch. The BF account has way more recognition and exposure, and now that I've cleaned out the shitty submissions I no longer want to stab my eyes out every time I click through my gallery.
Thoughts? Questions? Comments?

[Journal] Car Stuff
Posted 15 years agoAfter a while of my car really, really needing repairs, I finally got the Ford dealership to keep a maintenance appointment. They gave me a 2010 Fusion to rent for the day for a total of $5, which I then filled the tank up from what I used with a further $10. The repairs were estimated at around $850+, which I was told would be around $100 with my extended warranty. It took seven hours for the repair to get done and when I got there to pick up my vehicle...
...They told me the repair was completely covered by my warranty.
$850 repair, effectively done for $15.
Wewt.

[Serious Business] Transgender Day of Remembrance
Posted 15 years agoWhile several transfolks I know are making long, worthy posts on the subject of this day, I will err on the side of brevity. Allow me to direct you fine folks the TDOR website, where you can get a look at some of the media-acknowledged victims of transphobic violence over the last year.
And now I say this: I'm a transguy, and I am proud to be a dude.
Statistically speaking I'm safer than those poor women who died since I am a whitey and FTM, but it's still always a nerve-wracking experience to come out to anybody. I worry if my family will stop speaking to me. If my friends will reject or hurt me. If their parents won't welcome me into their houses any longer once they know the truth. I have been unbelievably lucky and am indescribably grateful to have only been rejected by one person in my life, and that person is my mother.
Transgender/transsexual individuals face incredible danger and anxiety every single day just by being who they are, and the only way to resolve that is through education and tolerance. If you don't know much about the T in LGBT, I encourage you to educate yourself. I'm also happy to field questions and entertain discussion.
Rock on, fellow transfolk.

Thoughts on Having a Real Job.
Posted 15 years agoPros!
I get to work with animals and am getting ~veterinary hospital experience~.
The staff at my job is also really friendly and awesome.
The head tech and the head vet (who is also the practice owner) are both gay, and I am strongly considering being Out Of The Closet Hardcore at work and seeing how that goes.
After the third month of work, I will get 50% discount on veterinary services.
(Minimal) health care plan.
Cons!
My salary is pretty fucking shitty and definitely is not enough to move out on.
Little opportunity to assist in actual medical care of animals.
On my feet all day doing physically-taxing (read: omfg exhausting) labor, made worse because I am a fatty; I have the opportunity to just sit down and rest my feet less than five times a day.
The vets have a policy to only teach their staff additional skills after three solid years of employment.
My hours are typically 7am-4pm. Aughwhy.
I am expected to arrive early and leave late for all of my shifts. This, plus the fact that my shifts officially begin at 7am, means that my insomnia and anxiety issues are already kicking my ass to death.
I am for all intents and purposes a motherfucking janitor.
Conclusion!
I'm keeping this job because there isn't anything else yet - the operative word being 'yet.' I am officially Still On The Hunt. I will be looking both for other (~real~) veterinary positions and for things that are relevant to my skills/interests/degree. Additionally, if I am still working where I am right now several months down the line and the civil service test I took plays out in the form of a job opportunity from the New York state court system, I am taking it. I am dying to move back to THE FATHERLAND anyway.

Badabing.
Posted 15 years agoAs of today I am officially employed, at least on a probationary basis - and I see no reason why I shouldn't make it through the week successfully and not maintain my jobness. So, until I figure out wtf is going to be up with my schedule, I am going to be flighty.
I AM GOING TO GET PAID TO EXERCISE AND PLAY WITH KITTENS

I hate the people I live with.
Posted 15 years agoI was in the kitchen making my dinner and Dallas was nearby on the floor. I gave her bellyrubs because that is what dogs need to thrive, and lo and behold! A giant fist-sized lump on one of her breasts. So when I (immediately) told my mother this, her only response was "I don't care." Also, all of my dogs have died of cancer. All of them.
I was kinda blindsided. So after notifying my stepfather, I trekked after my mother and told her that I felt she was being horrible and asked her to have some empathy. And got yelled at. Because apparently the animals that live in our house that we own are "NOT [HER] RESPONSIBILITY."
Pet ownership fail y/y.

It's a Jersey thing.
Posted 15 years agoThis week's South Park episode was quite possibly Matt and Trey's best episode ever.

It's just like any other country without the big to-do.
Posted 15 years agoWe greet thee with pleasure, but one question, if we may: What brings you folks to Canada? Why are you here today?
tl;dr I'm going to Canada for a family wedding, it should be awkward and make me extremely uncomfortable and I'm going to be in a car with my mother for seven hours (many of you probably have come to some sort of awareness that she is an evil hideous donkey-witch) but then I'll get to see my cousins.

Looking for a jeweller/metalworker. Any hot tips?
Posted 15 years agoI want to commission a hanging pendant. Simple design.
If anyone knows someone capable of working with a non-gold metal (preferably pewter or silver) that has reasonable prices and is willing to create a custom piece, please comment and let me know.
What I'm after is the Symbol of Torment from the Planescape RPG (a phenomenal game that holds personal meaning for me). Just the blade though, not the woman. The design has been recreated in a tattoo here, and one craftsman made a pendant for himself that I like very much, which is here. If something close to that could be achieved, I would be most satsified.

Temporary Hold on Commission Work, or: FUCK YOU PAYPAL.
Posted 15 years agoSo on 9/15 PayPal decided that it suddenly didn't trust my identity despite the fact that I've had an active account since 12/2007. They also failed to properly respond when I gave them the personal information they asked for, and then when I called them tonight they decided it was TOTALLY NOT ENOUGH and asked me to send a copy of my driver's license and bank statement, which I have done. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Until it is, though, all commission work is coming to a grinding halt because I really, really don't want to be in a position where a payment gets horribly tangled up.
LOL THE END.
LOL THE END.
