Hiya!

Just a quickie journal to let everyone know that the signups for 'Emote'-tober are done. We got 29/31 signups, which I'm really excited about! It wasn't quite a full slate, but I wasn't even sure I'd get half when I made this event, so I'm glad to see lots of people regardless.

SO, with the number of signups being LESS than the number of days in the month, everyone who signed up will get at least 1 headshot / emote drawn for them. There'll be two bonus headshots, which I'll choose from the participants second choices. No idea who those'll be, but I'll post them together with your first choice in order to help catch up, since I'm behind a few days to begin with. Good luck to everyone, may your characters catch my eye!

Ooooookay, here we go! Been a while since I've done any kind of an Inktober type of event, but I'd like to try and do something this year to help break out of a bit of an artwork rut and get drawing again with lots of little simple drawings. I want to re-train myself to try and draw a little every day, practice expressions and build consistency in my art process and style. HENCE: EMOTE-TOBER! Read below for the rules and let's get cracking on drawing your characters!

RULES / HOW TO SIGN UP

If you'd like me to draw an emote / headshot / sticker of your character for Emote-tober, please do the following:

1. Watch my page
2. Comment down below with your character's reference and your desired expression. You may submit up to two different characters and expressions, but make sure to write the one you want most FIRST. I will only be getting into second characters if I don't have enough submissions.
3. (Optional) Make a journal sharing this event and link it. It's not required, but I greatly appreciate the support and I WILL be considering if you've shared a journal when picking characters.

I will be selecting my favourite 31 submissions and then drawing a simple, colored and cel shaded headshot of your selected character 'emoting' with the desired expression.

Some guidelines and things to note about this event:
* this is NOT a first-come-first-served event, so take your time and make sure you include a clear reference for your character AND desired expression.
* if there are 31 or LESS participants by the deadline, everyone is guaranteed to get one drawing, and then I'll pick my favourites among everyone's second choices. If I still don't have enough with everyone's second choices, I'll supplement my own characters, or maybe go borrow friends' characters, we'll see...
* if there are MORE than 31 participants, I will simply be picking my favourite submissions from those who've entered
* if you don't have any exact references for your desired expression, link me something close and describe what you are looking for
* i'm drawing headshots / expressions ONLY, so no hands, feet(?), dialogue, special effects or any other funny business in your ideas please.
* there will not be any opportunity for WIP or changes to the artwork I make for this event. I'm spending maximum 30-45 minutes on each drawing and then moving on, so you get what you get.
* i will confirm at the deadline if you have been chosen for the event, but beyond that, the timing and final result of your drawing will be a surprise

Deadline to submit your ideas is Friday, October 3, 2025 at 1000 Mountain Time. I will not start drawing these until after the deadline has passed, so I will be a little bit behind initially on matching up the drawings with the days of the month, but I'll aim to catch up by the end.

Been meaning to get around to making an F-List for a long time now, so just letting everyone know that I've finally done so!

I think it's a pretty great tool to see what I will / won't draw. It's not set in stone and it's certainly not fully accurate, but it should cover about 99% of what I might get asked to draw around here. I have no doubt I might change a few things around as time goes on and I draw more stuff.

I'm also gonna try and dig a little bit to make the choices some side characters as well, so there shouldn't be an obvious winner amongst some less popular choices. Hiya!

Just a quick shout out to everyone following me! I'm over the 800 watcher milestone now, and it's only been about 7 months since 700. Super cool!

I'm hoping I can be more active again in a few more months during my off-season. I'm also looking to start commissions around the same time, so it should be a fun time to keep an eye on my page!

Still got a couple things in the queue I'm working on, including a companion artwork for the eventual public release of Indulger's Curse Spinoff - Episode 2 by LazyDez! It features my serval Nimah getting up to some very naughty fun with Dez's character Ixshi. Excited to have that ready for next month!

There's also still the Isabelle fanart in the queue, I've just kept pushing it back to work on some more important stuff like character sheets for my own characters and artwork for friends. She'll show up sometime this summer, I'm sure, maybe in a cel-shaded style for a change of pace and to save myself some time. Really tough right now to find the time and energy to sit down and do projects with detailed shading / lighting, so the amount of high quality stuff I can make will be pretty small for a while yet.

So, yeah, thanks for following me here! I'll get a raffle going for the 800 watcher milestone at some point when I feel I have the time to deliver on it without too much of a delay. Might be a few smaller prizes instead of big full color stuff so I don't get overwhelmed at the effort needed for prizing, and can draw for a few more people. We'll see!

2025 Update Journal Time!

I'll ramble a bit about my characters, my goals for the year, and who knows what else. It's down below for your reading pleasure.

Character Updates

Over the Christmas break, I dug in and worked on designing and releasing the official first character sheet for my new shortstack dragon, Miette! Go meet her over here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59368996/ (NSFW, sorry, don't have the SFW version edited just yet). Miette fills the 'ice' element in my roster of characters, and with her designed, I just need to polish and release sheets for 3 more (Kiki: Light Element, Kozama: Dark Element, and a final character I haven't thought of yet for lightning/electric.) This isn't to say I will stop making characters after that, but having all 8 of what I consider to be the main elements tied to characters I've designed myself would be a great point for me to at least slow down and do something with them. Some kind of story, or comic, or project they're all a part of is my next goal after the characters are established.

For Kiki (https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....r/1389353/Kiki), I really like her design visually but I think it does need some fine tuning, especially in the clothing department. I'm fairly confident in my ideas about her personality, her quirks and her powers, and I think she'll almost certainly be the next to get polished up and have a character sheet.

Kozama (https://www.furaffinity.net/gallery.....1317594/Kozama), on the other hand... I like the idea of his abilities, but not much else about him right now. I remain uninspired with regards to where to take him and how to flesh him out as a character and not just a 'dark element bird'. I wonder if he might get a species change too, similar to how Miette started as a mouse from initial concept and ended up a dragon.

The lightning elemental character is nothing more than a jumbled mess of thoughts and ideas right now. I'd be interested to hear what gender / species of character you want to see me create though. Leave a comment down below if you have a thought about this.

Artwork Updates

I'm find I'm in a bit of a weird spot with my artwork lately. I still feel like I'm doing fairly good work, but more and more there's little things about my process and my style that are starting to bother me.

> I find my sketching to somehow be too clean and too messy at the same time, and it feels like it's taking too long but because I tend to scribble and make lots of strokes, it ends up difficult to clean up enough to post as just a sketch.
> Doing lineart and flat coloring things is such a drag for me. I don't like my linework most of the time, it feels like it's missing a bit of personality somehow and it's never clean enough. I'm also frustrated with my tools for putting in flat colors on a piece and can't seem to get the settings quite right on most tools. Due to this, I really don't like posting flat color drawings, and tend to spend more time than I should adding shading and effects to mask some of the linework.
> I really like shading and lighting and all that, but I struggle SO much to keep my workflow consistent and the same each time. It's leading to me forgetting or ignoring some of the later steps like backlighting, post processing, etc., either because I'm just not remembering to do them or I just want the artwork to be done.
> I find that after I'm done with a piece, the colors usually seem off, or not saturated enough, or... something's just not quite right about the overall feel of the piece. Maybe it's my monitors, or maybe I need to be adjusting something about how I'm lighting and picking colors in the shading/lighting phase. Hard to explain this one.

What's this all mean? I don't know, honestly. I need to somehow refine and streamline my approach to art and find the time to practice it, to be able to put out a consistent, quality work that doesn't take me months to complete. I despise how slow I am at making content, I've been drawing for long enough that I should be more comfortable with everything I'm doing, but I think things have gotten stagnant and I've slipped a little when it comes to some of the details. This doesn't mean I hate my work, because I don't, I'm just realizing that I gotta buckle down and learn how to work with more purpose and efficiency.

I Want To Do Commissions

That's correct, you heard it, and I've finally admitted it to myself.

There's a lot to do still, but I hope to start offering them this year, once I've worked through a few of the things bothering me about how I make artwork. I also need to decide a multitude of things before I start, like Terms of Service, pricing, what types / quality of artwork I'm gonna offer, making a list of what I'm comfortable drawing, etc. etc.

Slots are gonna be mega limited, especially during the golf season, but I'm hoping I can take 1-2 a month. Maybe more in the off season.

I'll share more specifically about commissions when I'm ready to start doing them. Till then, hang tight!

Just want to toss a few notes out about progress on artwork, my schedule, and what to expect from me going forward into the Fall / Winter.

Art progress.

The Maid Marian fanart's on pause until I can get through some art trades with a couple friends. It took me a while to settle on the pose and situation for it, but I've finally got it sketched out and ready for linework.
Expect to see a fun, summer-themed drawing with my new gecko Kiki and a guest showing up in the coming weeks, then a reference sheet I'm very excited about getting to do after that.
Of course, sometimes my brain just forces me to draw random fanart or my OC's, so that'll still creep into your feeds as well.

Scheduling and moving into Fall / Winter

I've realized over the Summer that scheduling any sort of artwork is basically impossible during my busy season at work. I really struggled this year to want to spend time drawing on work days, despite so many good ideas running through my head and characters I want to draw. Motivation / inspiration came in waves, where sometimes I wouldn't draw for a couple weeks, then spend as much time as possible on artwork for a few days. Or, I'd want to draw at times I couldn't, and it was frustrating having artwork just sit in the planning or rough sketch phase for a long time.

I'm also figuring out that having too many things in my queue leads to stalled progress too often. Raffle prizes and sketches and fanarts are all things I still want to do, but having it all stare me in the face at once doesn't work for me anymore, especially as a free artist where artwork eats into my limited personal time. I'm going to try and hold myself to just 1 or 2 artworks in progress at a time now, so multiple raffle prizes and the like are probably going away, or being limited to basic, uncolored sketches that I can bash out in a couple hours. Something like that.

I'm also wrapping up a move to a new place, and moving / packing / unpacking has just shredded most of my time and energy. The upside is I'll now be much closer to work so I'll be getting back some time to myself just by not having to commute to work for 20-30 minutes each day. Hoping to pick up the pace a bit as I settle into the new place, summer winds down and work days get shorter.

Just a couple of notes to pass along regarding how things are going.

1. In terms of free time to draw, May sucked just about as much as April did. I've made some progress on owed artworks, but not near as much as I'd like to.

2. June's started out with a huge setback unfortunately: I dropped my screen tablet's pen just tonight and ruined the pressure and click functions on it. I did at least learn about how to take it apart, but the repair is beyond my capabilities... the carbon cylinder that allows the pen to function without a battery shattered when I dropped it. Can't repair that... Oops.

New one's ordered, but probably a couple weeks away, so I won't be doing much artwork for a while... Sorry about that!

Well, April proved to be exactly as tough as I thought it might be. With all of 2 days off of work, only thanks to bad weather, I had very little time to make any progress on owed artwork. Most days my energy levels were absolutely crushed after work and I end up just watching a bit of tv, eating and going to bed. What small progress was made was mostly sketching and a bit of linework, so I was able to send out a few updates to folks but most artwork has remained where it was at the beginning of the month.

I'm starting to realize trying to schedule YCHs and such probably isn't going to work out so well this year, so I think I'm going to stop doing that and just start dropping them on you guys when its appropriate and I have time to work on them.
