Art Giveaway [CLOSED]
Posted 13 years agoSo, here's the thing. I've felt stuck in a proverbial rut for about two months now. I have commissions to finish, and somehow every time I sit down to draw it's insanely difficult to get anything out of the tip of my pen. I can draw familiar characters- my mate's, most often. But, I have an intensely hard time getting up the ability to draw almost anything else. I had a lot of fun with a piece of gift art I did for Fiction a couple weeks back...and right after that, I finished a couple of commission pieces and sent out proofs for others. So I've concluded that I want to do something unusual. Something that piques my interest, that will make me go 'Hey, I did that awesome, and it was fun! What else can I do...' because seriously, drawing makes me feel so much better. And I feel like I should do it more.
So, I decided to hold an art giveaway for two pieces of work. Here's the rules, pretty standard for giveaways:
1. You must be watching me.
2. You must pimp this journal with a journal of your own.
3. Leave a comment here with a link to the journal, and a link to any good visual reference you have.
4. Stick the word "Potatoes" somewhere in there, so I know you read the whole journal.
5. List your idea for an image with your character in it- the more unique and dearer to your heart, the better. You can list whatever you like- PG, mature, X rated, anything you like. As you can see from my gallery, pretty much nothing is off-limits. If I have an issue with what you propose, I'll let you know and give you a chance to change the idea, rather than just ignore you.
Next Wednesday, April 11th, I'll pick two characters, and those two will receive free, fully colored and shaded digital artwork of their character and idea.

I heart getting back to work. ^_^
Posted 14 years agoSo I've finally gotten things settled with the twins enough to resume work on my commission list! Yay!
To the current commissioners, I can only say, thank you so much for being so patient. It's been a slow recovery process from the c-section, and crazy trying to work out a schedule with two babies, and you have been nothing but supportive. Thank you all. <3
Additionally, I've finally gone paperless! I typically sketch my pieces by hand on paper, scan them in, clean them up, then ink and color digitally. Now that
has been awesomely sweet and set up my tablet on the laptop, I can sketch digitally too, while watching the boys! *happydance*
I'm hoping to crank out the commission list pretty fast here, and reopen commissions and requests. :3 I've missed drawing!

Update on the Twins
Posted 14 years agoThe boys have good heartbeats, I'm still having contractions between 5 and 10 minutes apart. My cervix is still 1cm dilated and not effacing, but! Baby A has dropped, so his head is pressing pretty hard against it now. The doc says it's down to the wire now- if the boys don't come out on their own by next Thursday, then I'll be admitted for labor augmentation and given medicine to ripen and progress labor.
There is a mild concern we're waiting to hear about- at the growth ultrasound last month, baby B was 3 pounds and baby A was 3 pounds 10 oz. They weren't terribly concerned, but at this most recent one, baby A was 5 pounds 11 oz, and B was only 4 pounds 7oz. :( Because they're so discordant, they had to do a blood flow check, which we're now awaiting the results of.
Baby A is in the perfect position to be born naturally, which is a big relief. But I've been cautioned that since B is so small, it could either make it easier to have both of them vaginally, or that the contractions could put him in distress because of it, so to be prepared for the possibility of needing a c/s for the second baby after giving natural birth to the first.
I'm on decreased activity, which is a step up from complete bedrest, but
is still doing most of the work around the house. x3 Nursery has been finished, and now we're just waiting. Any way it goes, these little guys will be here before two weeks are up!
Ultrasound pics, for those who are interested:

Twin B: (Just his spine though, so it's not terribly interesting.)

Fursonality
Posted 14 years agoI stol'd this from
cause I was bored. xP
Species: Drakitterwolf (Dragon/Snow Leopard/Wolf)
1. Reason/story behind your fursona's name?
I've gone by Blossome for around... 5 years, I think. Mostly just started out as my internet username, because I like flowers ALOT. Kind of got adopted as my RL fur name, and now I'm even changing my RL name to Blossome because I like it better than my actual name.
2. Reasons why your species represents your personality.
Alot of reasons, really- I'm very catlike at times, but I wag or rrf like a canine, and I'm told I can be scary as hell when I'm mad, so there's some dragon for you.
3. Any special aspects to your fursona (wings, demon side, ect.)? Are there reasons behind them?
My fursona has wings, but they're just explicable by the dragon part of me. My species is the same as
's, because I'm hir daughter, that's a pretty special aspect to me. <3
4. Is there a stereotype about your fursona's species that holds true to you?
Uhm...since I'm a snow leopard, I am reaaaally fluffy, and I totally love it.
5. If you had to find a more suitable species to be your fursona to better match you as a person, what would it be?
I don't think there is a more suitable species than what I am.

Home at last
Posted 14 years agoZ and I got into town earlier this evening, and are getting settled back into our groove. For those of you curious, no, I didn't get to attend my grandfathers funeral. There was an extensive amount of drama caused by my mother, and long story short, I was forced to visit his grave the day after the funeral instead. I may post a more detailed explanation later. Still, we got to say goodbye to my grandpa, and that's what matters.
After catching up with schoolwork and all the rl stuff that piled up at our door while we were gone, I should be back on track with commissions by Weds. Thanks to everyone who sent us well-wishes, and kept in touch while we were gone. <3

Update
Posted 14 years agoQuick update- Z and I will be out of town starting tomorrow morning, possibly for the rest of the week, to attend my grandfather's funeral. If we don't answer inquiries or IMs or whatever, it's cause we only have one laptop and it may not be checked often. Thanks for your patience!

Crushed
Posted 14 years agoI post few intensely personal things here on FA, unless they affect my commission queue or they're super happy things like ultrasounds. This, unfortunately, is not a happy personal thing.
My father called me earlier this evening and left a brief message letting me know that my grandfather passed away not too long before that. He was very quiet and matter-of-fact, and told me that it was ok, he went quick. He told me to call him anytime I needed to talk.
I don't speak with my family much...I love and miss them, but we don't really get along for long periods of time. The decent exception to this was my grandfather. He was gruff, and coarse, and cursed alot, and if you made him mad, ooh, you better watch out. He was a retired Air Force Master Sergeant, and it showed. But I remember him playing peek-a-boo behind his handkerchief with me as a toddler. I remember seeing him do the same thing with my first daughter. ...I had hoped to see him do the same thing with our twins in a few months.
I'm in alot of grief, and I haven't experienced the death of a close relative ever before, so I don't really know how I'm supposed to be reacting. I alternate between crying and being almost organized about what I need to do, and who I need to call. I feel frozen right now - I haven't even brought myself to call my father back, or ask how it happened, or what my grandmother's plans are for the funeral, or anything. I don't know how to ask those things...or at least how to ask them without bursting into tears.
I will be away from artwork for a bit, until we figure out when we need to fly out for the funeral, (if I can still fly), and uh...yeah. I apologize to those waiting for their finalized pieced from me- just give me about a week to recoup and have everything as back to normal as I can. I'm sorry.

Ultrasound Pics!
Posted 14 years agoSo I took the advice and made a Picasa album with all the ultrasounds and belly photos and such, so it wouldn't annoy those of my watchers who aren't interested in them by posting them on FA.
Here are the ultrasounds:

If you want to know how big I am, just click on 'Blossome Wolfe' and you can see the other dated belly pic albums.
Yay for organization!

Lrrr demands the comfort of pop-pyschological platitudes!
Posted 14 years agoFunfun stuff happening lately! I failed my 1 hour pregnancy glucose test last week, and was sent in for a 3 hour this week. If these results don't come back with better numbers, I'll be diagnosed with gestational diabetes and possibly need to go on insulin. At the very least I'll be placed on a glucose-restricted diet and have to test my blood sugar 5 times a day.
Other than that, contractions haven't come back, and the boys seem to be growing very well. I have another set of ultrasounds scheduled on Tuesday. I think I may start posting the ultrasounds here on FA, in my scraps. Tell me if you think that's a good idea. :3
A brief, non-specific, non-related rant:
1. Your breasts don't leak milk during pregnancy. Ever. If you're extremely sensitive, they might leak small drops of clear fluid a month or so before delivery. And that's it. Milk doesn't even come in until after birth, dingus.
2. I'm 8 months pregnant with twins. I just started really feeling them move around about a month ago. If you are anything less pregnant than that with a singleton? You're hardly feeling flutters of movement, and I call bullshit on anything else you say.
3. Pics or it didn't happen. Seriously. I'm not the only one who thinks that. I'll believe it when I see it.
Now, I realize that I'm a hormonal pregnant woman, and that it's seriously not a big deal and nobody's stealing my thunder. I just haven't let loose about it before, and finally felt like I wanted to.
Anyway! Votes on ultrasound pics in scraps, yes or no?

Art raffles!
Posted 14 years agoOut of the hospital, into the frying pan?
Posted 14 years agoSo I was released from the hospital last night, made it home just fine, on semi-bedrest. Everything seems to be fine now, they stopped the contractions and they're having me come into the doctors' once a week to make sure I haven't dilated.
I got a decent sleep for the first time in a couple nights, in my own bed, and was woken up at 11am by someone calling, then knocking on my door. Who was it? It was two Phoenix police officers there with my former roommate, because he decided he couldn't wait two more weeks for us to pay off our stereo, and got the cops involved because 'he didn't want to start a conflict'
...wtf? He waited until I got out of the frickin hospital just to come over with cops and tell me I had to uninstall a friggin car stereo in the middle of the Phoenix heat? Discussed it with the cops, and they said that we didn't even have an obligation to surrender the damn thing- there was no contract, and he'd have to take us to civil court just to get a court date to make the decision- a court date that, I might add, would be long after we'd paid the thing off on September 9th, and so would be thrown out.
So I'm a very unhappy camper at this exact moment- since I wasn't going to send Z out in the 113 degree heat to rip out this guys stupid stereo when it would be paid off in less than two weeks, I decided to write something up saying we'd pay it in full before the end of Sept (which, originally, is what we told him we'd do ANYWAY and had been telling him we'd do.) Cops left, cause, seriously, wtf did he bring them for? Like a pregnant chick was gonna start shit with him or do anything besides say 'no', which the cops couldn't do anything about anyway.
Rrrgh. That was fucking pointless. I just had to stand on my porch for a damn hour telling him exactly what the cops told him- you can't take it unless you file a suit, and the suit's not going to come up for court date til after it's paid! I'm so pissed. There was no fucking reason for this.
On top of it, you know how much money we'd missed in payments? On a $600 stereo? $80. 80 bucks and he's flipping his fucking lid.

In the hospital...
Posted 14 years agoHey everyone
So, I'm currently in the hospital right now. I'm okay, and so are the twins for the time being, but contractions started late last night and they're trying to slow or stop them. I've been placed on hospital bedrest for the time being, and am getting steroid shots to improve the babies' lungs, just in case.
I've been given a cerclage (TMI, just google it if you're curious enough) to stop labor, but we don't know if or when I'll be allowed to go home. We've been told it could be a couple of weeks, so we just have to see how I respond to treatments.
Z is with me as often as the hospital allows, and brought me the laptop so I don't go insane while I'm here. Shi also brought me my tablet, so I'm still working on commissions, and those of you on SL will probably still see me from time to time, since this laptop is awesome.
I just ask that you be patient with me, and those of you waiting on commissions or requests, give me a little extra time to work through them. It's hard to draw porn in a hospital when the nurses come in to measure me every hour. >.>
If I don't answer notes or IMs, you can send one to Z, and shi will probably get back to you pretty fast. Again, I'm sorry to those who are waiting on pieces to be finished...sometimes stuff just jumps up and bites you on the ass. I'll try and update those of you who have a vested interest in my health and the babies when I can.
Love and hugs,
Blossy

Posted 14 years agoCollab Account
Posted 14 years agoSo I made the decision, with all the interest in commissions, and the large workload that I have that I'm not exactly used to, that it would be beneficial to both me and my commissioners if I had someone who helped me handle the paperwork and sort of red tape involved with commissions, proofing and all that.
To that end, my mate
zzyzx has graciously offered to help me out by dealing with all the aforementioned stuff when I can't (specifically when I'm trying to finish a piece and don't have time to talk out alot of stuff with new commissioners or current ones). To make that easier on everyone, we've made a collab account! Please visit
WolfeIndustrie for all the commission information, examples, and contact info. ^_^
This will also prevent my commissioners from having to see all my personal crap (like free art pimpages and other random stuff I post. xD) unless they want to.

Credit Where Credit is Due
Posted 14 years agoSo in response to
zzyzx's journal about how much work I put into our SL store and my artwork... I wanted to post my own little thing here thanking hir for all that shi's helped me with. If it weren't for hir encouragement, I probably would never have developed my work to the point it's at now, (and trust me, my prior work was uh...not very good) and not only has it enabled me to take on commissions, but I would not even be taking them had shi not encouraged me to. I owe hir alot, and shi deserves credit for how much shi's helped me in development of my style and judgement of proportion, as well as helping me with commission guidelines and pricing.
As far as our SL store, shi has always been the inspiration behind the outfits, and has been the one to provide the customer service and set up our vendors. Shi put alot of work into our store, just as much as I did making the outfits, and I want everyone to know just how much work shi puts into it.
You're always my inspiration for my work, honey, and you always will be. I love you with all my heart!

Commission Process
Posted 14 years agoCommissions & You
(Or: So You Really Want Some Porn, Eh?)
Brought to you by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Yiff. How do commissions work, anyway?
Well, here's the general process and what to expect:
1. Send me all relevant material to your picture. A ref sheet is preferred, else all other pictures, SL screenshots, or as a last resort, text descriptions.
2. Tell me exactly what you want me to draw for you. Please be specific, as I can only draw what I'm told about. I will do my best to make sure I draw what you want.
3. Once I have collected enough information and have decided to accept your commission, payment will be expected to get a place in the queue.
4. As soon as I get to you, I will begin by doing a rough sketch on paper. Once I have finished this sketch, I will email you a copy for approval. Please review this sketch and list everything that you want changed. Now is the one and only chance for major changes to the sketch. Small changes to details will be made during inking. Only major changes will be made in the sketch for re-approval. Once the sketch is acceptable except for minor details, you will approve the sketch.
5. At this point, the sketch will be inked. All minor corrections listed in your approval will be made at this point. Once the line art is completed, you will be sent the line art for approval once again. Only minor changes can be made. Major changes will require significant reworking of the piece, and may incur an additional charge depending on the amount of work needed.
6. Once the line art is approved, flat coloring will begin. Once all of the flat colors are applied to the image, it will come back to you again for approval. Again, now is the time to point out any coloring that it is incorrect or does not match. Please be sure to list any and all changes that need to be made to the coloring. If you wish to change anything besides coloring, charges may be incurred as this will be major work.
7. After this approval, your image will be shaded. After shading, the image is generally considered to be complete. If there are any very minor details that need to be fixed, it may be possible, but again, any major changes may incur charges.
Thank you and enjoy your art,
Blossome Wolfe
