MRI scheduled for tomorrow
Posted 7 years agoGoing over my finances to make sure there are no general surprises I went ahead and looked into available dates and times. I was able to get my order reopened and I'm booked for tomorrow at 11:30AM. It's a bit further away than I wanted to travel to, but I'm sure it'll be worth it.
Thanks again to everyone who's bought a commission from me, props and games I had for sale, or just wanted to donate! I really appreciate it.
To the folks who've asked, yes I do have insurance. It's still costing close to $1K to do the MRI.

MFF 2018 summary and MRI goal met!
Posted 7 years agoHi everyone! It was wonderful seeing so many of you! I got to see lots of familiar faces and meet a lot of new friends. The Artists Alley table went really well. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and those who made a purchase! I didn't sleep much, but it was worth it.
Not having access to my wheelchair sucked. Another person who has trouble walking sympathized. At least the airports have chair services. I very much appreciated it.
Ricky/Bucky, was a pleasure to meet you. We need to hang out when I'm in Bowie.
My roomies Hondo, Ashley and Christian were awesome. Thanks for putting up my with late night art shenanigans and losing (and finding) my log book. I forgot about the tables downstairs and I'll probably art late there next year to not keep up anyone. I painted there Sunday evening.
My of my con experience was in the Artists Alley or in my room working on projects. I caught the bird anatomy panel on Thursday, watched a recording of Jib Kodi's panel Hondo recorded for me (watched it on my flight home), and Closing Ceremonies. I guess approving folks on the MFF FB group and monitoring it counts.
Lauren, you can be the honorary roomie. Let's plot for ACE. I'm actually free. Kidnap me before I get sucked into publishing project work (or bandanas...which ever).
Mad Shy thank you for swinging by and the hugs. Again in the airport. I'm blanking on your fellow Jacksonville buddy's name. Please remind me!
Brian and Tracy, thanks for letting me bunk with you guys on Sunday. Moving stuff across the hallway made things less stressful. I have a general idea of what not to bring next year supply-wise.
Woody and Jake, thanks for catching me and hanging out. Also freakin congrats on your engagement. :3
Alkali, good seeing out and drag your ferret-snowleopard butt down here to NC. Lots of fursuit-friendly places here and also Frugal MacDoogle. Google them.
I took a bunch of portraits. I'm sorry for not being to meet up with two of you folks. I'll be posting them soon.
Mario and Luigi, keep doing your thing! You two are hilarious.
Two things post con. I slept 12 hours Monday into Tuesday. I am presently an empty shell and I'm just sorta here. I'll be normal tomorrow and will let my neighbor know I'm still not dead yet (she kids a lot that I'm dead when she doesn't see me for weeks at a time).
Second is I am in the process of rescheduling the MRI. The doctor's office needs to reopen the prescription and then I can set a date in January. The price dropped by $21 also. I'll take it. I know I have lots of homework post event, but you all helped and I very much appreciate it! I angered my foot multiple times, including a damaged #5 nail for some reason. It'll be back to normal in maybe 7 - 9 months. Hoping I'll be able to get some answers come January.

MFF Artists Marketplace table #13
Posted 7 years agoI received my table assignment today. Please stop by! I'll have Dodge's noggin displaying a bandana. The bandana will be for sale, but not my toofy kitty.
Shamus will be helping me with getting things to the Alley and if I need to duck away. He's an awesome guy! Thank you again!
I lost about 6 hours of work today from time lost in a FedEx Office, so I'll be sewing a lot of the hardware pieces to bandanas tonight, tomorrow. Wednesday, and possibly on Thursday.
For general updates please visit www.twitter.com/jasperbluenc.

MRI update
Posted 7 years agoAs of now I am $132 away from my goal. Some folks have asked if donating is still possible, which I will happily accept. With the exception of during MFF and con prep I may not have much time to draw. Donations can be sent to jasperbluecanary @ gmail.com.
My schedule will calm down about the third week in January. If needed I will take care of the remaining total to schedule my MRI in late January.
I will have my chair with me at MFF and switching between using it and walking. Using it extends my ability to get around.

dannydingo is looking for someone staying at the main hotel (The Hyatt) whom can let him stow his fursuit/change Thu-Sun of MFF. If you can assist let me know and I can put you in touch with him.Twitter production updates & need advice using Vistaprint
Posted 7 years agoI am periodically posting behind the scenes photos and the occasional video on Twitter. If you'd like to see some stuff check me out on https://twitter.com/jasperbluenc. Go to the Media section to see updates about prints, art, and con prep.
I am looking into printing business cards on Vistaprint. For those who've used it, which card stock option do you like? Will they send me a proof before I put in an order?

Bringing comics I'm in to the MFF Artists Marketplace
Posted 7 years agoI've been given permission to have a few of the Disney Comics I'm featured in available at MFF. These include Donald and Mickey Walt Disney Show Case and Walt Disney's Comics and Stories.
If anyone has a specific inquiry just sent me a message. I'll be photographing which books are available. All copies will be signed by David Gerstein and myself prior to the event.
I'm currently prepping 8" x 10" prints and 5 =" x 7" cards (which doubles as a print if you don't want to use it as a card) to bring to the market. I am only allowed to have up to 5 displays or larger items (such as a plush). I'll be available to take badges, sketches and inked requests at the event.

Artz
Posted 7 years agoI wanted to move some art over here so folks can see more examples of what I do. Sadly I wish I could post some of the comics projects, but most of it is either color corrections or censorship.
I'm planning on some fun badge ideas involving wet markets (like dry erase, but you need water to remove it). I need to test that out. If you'd like to be involved badges are $23 (postage is included) are from the shoulders and up, and you can choose to either be angry or happy. A second piece of lamination will be used to cover the badge to protect the balloon.
Still waiting to hear back about the MFF Artists Alley Marketplace. If I don't get picked it's okay. I'll just be a derpy toofy cat for the weekend/wheeling around sometimes.

Adventures in sewing
Posted 7 years agoJust returned from my repair gig out of state. Getting my sewing machine looked at after the needle slammed on a plastic zipper.
During the week it had been raining. Sometimes water gets into the door of my car and sometimes a section of floor on the back left passenger side feels moist. Three days ago I had to bail a puddle out and towel it dry.
Getting both looked at today and soon my laptop. Fun times.
Once those are taken care of I'll be seeing what I can put towards my MRI. I got a recent donation in, so I am currently $346.62 away from my goal. Waiting on two $40 payments, which will bring it down to $266.62..
I'm hoping by January or February to have enough saved away to schedule it again.

Getting closer to my MRI goal
Posted 7 years agoHi folks. I'm still splitting my time between my regular freelance work, some volunteer stuffs I do, and the fundraiser projects. As of today with some savings I've put aside and the fundraiser I now have $629.00 towards the MRI, with an additional $41 coming in once I turn in a project and potentially a bit more if a friend still wants to officially buy a sealed game I am selling. As of right now there is $360.62 sense remaining.
Thank you again everyone who participated in the fundraiser! I'll be continuing to put a bit of savings towards it into next year. The next step is in December seeing if I've reached the goal, or if they decide to jack up the price again like last year. We'll see. I figured $1K is a good buffer zone.
I applied for the MFF Artists Marketplace, so I'll know soon if I get in. If so I'll definitely be hauling extra supplies with me and any funds will go towards the remainder. If not I may just be a derpy kitty for the weekend (I really don't want to drag a bunch of extra stuff with me unless I know thee is 100% a table I can use). Typically I work in Operations, but this year I am doing just pre-event work.

Looking for a couple of fox fursuit models at MFF
Posted 7 years agoI have a couple of new fursuit bandana prints I'd like to have modeled. One has a chicken theme and the other has fox faces with variations. I'll have some free time on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday - Sunday mornings as well.
Feel free to reply or send a note if you are interested.

Foot, hand, MFF, owed art, no NYCC, MFF, and general updates
Posted 7 years agoHi folks. If you're following along, awesome. If you're new, hi there!
I still haven't received a call from Novant Health about a potential physical therapist. I'm not shocked.
mystee showed me a few things to try out and suggested finding out if it could be something higher (such as my knee or hip position) that might be affecting the tendons. After my MD repair assignment happens/concludes I will start working on this. It needs to get rescheduled, so I'm attempting to finish owed projects before I attempt to head back north again.
For some random reason in addition to having a messed up right foot my left pinky decided I should have some fun pain to experience there. This went on for about four weeks. I've been stretching and pulling the finger to help. As of last night it finally started to feel better. Of all the fingers my left pinky gets used the least. I'm a klutz, so it wouldn't shock me if I hit it against something, hurt it gardening, or maybe just as simple as flicking my turn signal. It's getting better, so I'll take what I can get there.
I spent what I thought was a calm period in the VA beach area with
toonfx and visited Shoreleave. We found a nice lake spot for fursuit bandana modeling photos, briefly visited the Fursonacon hotel to meet back up the next day and waited out a tornado warning, and then visited two Navy bases. Kite flying happened after it stormed. Also the first Motel 6 room we stayed in was pranked with someone writing "beware" with a UV reactive pen on a wall. I didn't notice it, but Brian did. We took photos. Someone needs to add, "Bill Cipher was here."
Since I'm back early I'm back to projects. We may or may not have power, so I will be doing some sewing work Wednesday and Thursday, followed by EagleBeagle's badge. After that I plan on drawing badges featuring a cute dutch angel dragon and a cat character.
A friend asked for a second bandana, so that'll be going towards the MRI fundraiser. It's very much appreciated and I thank everyone who has donated or ordered art from me.
When projects are finished I will be working on refurbishing two fursuit heads (a rabbit and a yellow and white wolf) and some con swag. I applied with the MFF Artist Market, so maybe I'll get in. Debating on trying out for the regular Artist Alley if I don't get in.
Due to my MD gig needing to reschedule no NYCC for me. This also means not watching my boyfriend Dave give a talk about 1920's British animated films at a local college. Hoping someone records it. On the upside he can come down here in October.
MFF is officially go. Room was reserved a while ago, I checked my savings and tickets are doable (I saved over a long period for it), and just took care of my flight. If you're going feel free to give me a heads up.
I'll be posting more art and photos soon. Gonna sleep in tomorrow finally.

Fundraiser has ended. Thanks to everyone that participated!
Posted 7 years agoI meant to post this a few days ago. I appreciate everyone who was able to help. I'm trying to wrap up owed art as soon as possible.
I'm hoping to hear back this week about in network physical therapists. Mystee offered to take a look at my foot. Any suggests are welcome.
Currently I need to finish up mascot bags due this month before I head to Bowie, MD and publishing work. Currently I have three badges and six Telegram icons to finish up. Photo portraits will follow.
When those are done I should be available for other projects. There's a rabbit and a quad head I need to finish up as well. Keeping busy.

Looking into physical therapy
Posted 7 years agoSince my foot is not getting worse or better in nearly three years I am going to look into in network physical therapists. I still plan on trying to save up for a MRI, but this is for proper training to help strengthen my foot with assistance.
My doctor's office called in reference to the MRI cancellation and a new referral for a physical therapist is being made.
It won't give me answers, but maybe it'll help me walk or stand longer without having to use my wheelchair for longer distance use.

Having to postpone my MRI again
Posted 7 years agoI'm trying to keep it together, but I find this incredibly draining. It was nice feeling hopeful, but the US healthcare system is disappointing.
I received a call earlier about making sure I would be at my MRI appointment about thirty minutes early. That's not a problem. The receptionist mentioned about price breakdown and insurance payout. The payment I was specifically told of $781.21 was not what I was quoted by my insurance. There may also be additional charges. I'm not a happy camper. Contacting my insurance I was told the $425 quote is only an estimate. I was not told it was an estimate and not the final amount.
I'm really tired of this. At this point I will continue to do research when time allows for additional locations and rates, keep the funds I have saved and raised in a savings account, and then try again when I'm able to maybe early next year.
An additional update:
Speaking to someone while canceling my appointment the operator confirmed there would be a reading fee attached to the MRI fee at the Charlotte imaging center location. My cheapest option is still in Rock Hill, SC (what I was told earlier this year) at $989.62, which includes the reading fee.
This is mind boggling. I'm being told one thing and then getting surprised by something else.

The joys of trying to schedule a MRI...
Posted 7 years agoI will update this post as I get more information.
Currently I've called 5 numbers (doctor's office > scheduling > pricing > insurance > imaging office). I found out my order was closed and I'd have to call the doctor's office again to get it reordered. No one was available and I had to leave a message.
I learned rather than $600 or $700 that it'll cost $425. This is completely doable to go ahead and schedule it. I've updated the amount on my FA profile and fundraiser notes.
While speaking to the operator at the imaging office I requested in my patient notes to add "Please use male pronouns." The operator repeated back what I said in a confusing tone twice and continued to "ma'am" me. Kind of disrespectful, but whatever. I just want to get everything over with.
I received a message via email to go to my doctor's site login for a note. The reorder was made. Great! I began to schedule, but the doctopr's office ignored my request to not have a contrasting dye injection. I was told to redo the reorder. At this point it's 1PM in the afternoon and four hours have passed.
MRI reordered. Received an actual call back to confirm. Called back the imaging location and now everything is set for the 28th.
My long term goal is to find out if there is scar tissue build up and what I can do to prevent my foot from swelling so I can walk normal and run again. I'll accept my fate if my foot's condition is permanent, but I'd like real answers.

Project updates; Badge & Telegram sticker requests end 9/1
Posted 7 years agoHi everyone. I am currently flipping through various projects (photo editing, publisher work/comic coloring, prepping bandanas, art requests, and mascot bags).
Art requests will resume on Monday. If I am currently working on badges or stickers for you those will be continued then. Once those are finished all new art requests will be worked on during the week.
My goal is to wrap up all August projects before September 6.
I am waiting for my doctor's office to get the number for the MRI location to confirm pricing. I had an estimated range since I feel like billing changes over time. My goal is to start planning to arrange it later this year. The communication with the current Novant office has been terrible/was over charged and I plan on finding a new office once dealing with the MRI scheduling is over.
I've had a few inquiries for bandanas recently, including a completed project. All bandana projects will require payment up and a mailing address provided.
Art requests will resume on Monday. If I am currently working on badges or stickers for you those will be continued then. Once those are finished all new art requests will be worked on during the week.
My goal is to wrap up all August projects before September 6.
