Hunter Part 6
General | Posted a year agoAfter spending nearly 12 hours in the car, due to being forced to spend the entire day in Olympia for his appointment, Hunter's ultrasound got taken care of today.
First, the good news: The cost for today's appointment was just slightly less than the original amount I was quoted that it would cost ($590). This included the ultrasound itself and the donated meds from the vet center. Also, the costs included some of the donated meds from the vet center. Two weeks of antibiotics he needs, as well as two weeks of an anti-inflammatory medication. Sadly, this is where the good news ends.
The bad news: I discovered that Hunter's left testicle is really bad, and, unfortunately, this led to the discovery that, yes, the neuter IS needed to take care of the issue. This broke my heart to hear, and, almost immediately, I went back to the horrible feeling I felt when the idea of the neuter first came up. It was recommended that I get the neuter scheduled with my regular vet ASAP. I will return to this comment momentarily.
With regards to the meds I was told Hunter needs to be on: Aside from the two weeks of each medication I was given, I discovered that I needed an additional four weeks of the antibiotics, which are a medication called Enrofloxacin, and, unfortunately, this would have to come out of pocket. I was given the name of the site that the vet center recommends to patients to use for meds, a site called Chewy, and I discovered that, for the remaining four weeks of meds he needs, it would cost me $200. Thankfully, I would only need to pay this once, as, after the four weeks, Hunter would not need them anymore. The other med he was put on though, an anti-inflammatory med called Deracoxib, is going to be a long-term medication. This one, thankfully, is only about $50 a month. Still painful, but a bit more manageable. This means, in about two weeks, I'll have to shell out $250 for Hunter's two medications, but, after that, it will only be $50 a month, for the anti-inflammatory alone, if I understood everything correctly. I'll be contacting the vet center in two weeks to make sure I'm understanding things properly before spending the money.
Getting back on track here... After being told to do so, I contacted Banfield, to set up the neuter appointment. It's now been set for the 18th, just a few days from now. Sadly, at this point, I now know for a fact there's no getting around it. It has to be done. I was told though that getting the neuter done will practically guarantee he'll be cured because there was no sign of anything else wrong when the ultrasound was done. As much as I hated hearing the neuter was necessary, I was, at least, comforted by that news.
So yeah, that's the situation as it is right now. The neuter is in a few days, then I just have to deal with keeping up on Hunter's meds. Thankfully, what assistance I've received from friends should cover the cost of the meds for now, so I should be fine, though it does sting that the antibiotics are going to cost so much, even if i inly have to pay that $200 once.
The next update will probably be after the neuter, assuming nothing else goes wrong or changes.

Roomie's e-book! How to save money on a Disneyland vacati...
General | Posted a year agoAs the title states, my roommate, Keith, just put out a Kindle e-book on how to save money on a Disneyland vacation. He's been there more than 20 times in his life, and has learned quite a bit about the best ways to save money. To help him out, I'm putting out this journal, linking to his Amazon listing for it, in case anyone might be interested. If you want to plan a trip to Disneyland, but have found it hard to save money, you can but his e-book here.

General | Posted a year agoThanks to some very generous friends, I already have what I need to cover Hunter's bill, and have a decent amount more, should anything else come up. I am grateful to anyone that was able to help me.
Hunter Part 4 *headdesk*
General | Posted a year agoI just got off the phone, having scheduled Hunter's abdominal ultrasound he needs to have. Unfortunately, several more bits of bad news came along with it.
1. We could not get them to schedule us for a Monday (Steve's day off) because they aren't open on Mondays. Instead, we had to schedule it for a Thursday (next Thursday, to be precise) which means, on that day, Steve will have to either call in, saying he can't work that day, or find an alternate means to get to and from work that day.
2. The appointment we need to make requires an early morning drop-off. 8:15 AM. Unlike yesterday, however, it's much farther to get to Olympia (where this ultrasound is being done) than it is to get to Lacey (where the vet's office was) so it means being up potentially even earlier than we had to be for yesterday's appointment.
3. Not only do we have to get there early, apparently we have to stay in Olympia all day, because, apparently, they don't finish up with things until 6 PM. This, to me, makes no sense, considering it's just an ultrasound. I mentioned to the person I spoke with, that we don't live in the area, and she put it in her notes that we would like for Hunter to have his ultrasound done sooner, rather than later, because of this.
4. I discovered that the costs for what is being done (the ultrasound, plus the exam and consultation) is roughly $600 total, and they don't do payment plans. I'm apparently expected to pay it all at once. I'm already having to deal with my Banfield wellness plan costs no being double until the end of the year, and now I'm apparently supposed to come up with $600 all at once, and i don't have the finances to do so. The lady I spoke with sent me an e-mail that has a few options I can look into for financial assistance, which I will very likely have to deal with now.
I'm ready to cry at this point.

Hunter Part 3 SLIGHT TMI!
General | Posted a year agoI had asked for the vet to e-mail me with a dumbed down diagnosis of what the x-rays they took had showed them, because I couldn't make heads or tails of what they originally told me. Here's what was sent. There was more than this, but this is what specifically relates to the testicular cancer stuff:
- Chest is normal no evidence of cancer or heart enlargement
- Prostate is enlarged possible causes could be benign (not cancer) enlargement due to being not neutered, infection or cancer
- Abdomen has no signs of mass effect however they cannot rule this out without an abdominal ultrasound
My next step is to contact the Oncology specialist, which I will be doing tomorrow, to have the abdominal ultrasound scheduled if I can. I'm not happy about it, because it's a cost that will come entirely out of pocket, but that is apparently the next step before the neuter.
Hunter's life is important to me. I wouldn't go through all this if it weren't. But after the way I was jerked around today, I both cried and yelled at the vet's office today.

Hunter Part 2
General | Posted a year agoI am not a happy man right now. I just got through talking with the vet, and the neuter isn't being done today. Instead, they want to get a couple X-Rays done first. This is to find out if the tumor that is in his testicle has metastasized to anywhere else. It needs to be done because I want to be sure they get it, but it still means an extra expense I was not prepared for. It also means I have another trip I have to make back up here for when the neuter actually has to happen.
I was already expecting Hunter's wellness plan to go up in cost as a result of things but its going to go up even more as a result of now having to include the cost of the xrays.
Suffice it to say, I am not a happy man right now. And now I have to stress out even further, waiting to find out if the tumor has caused problems in other places.

Not feeling too happy right now. SLIGHT TMI!
General | Posted a year agoI've known about this for a couple weeks now, and it's had me upset since the day I found out.
Hunter had a vet appointment a couple weeks ago. For the most part, everything seemed fine. That is, until I learned a piece of information that really upset me. I discovered that one of Hunter's testicles is much bigger than it should be. (or much smaller, I can't remember which). The vet informed me that the cause of this was either he had a cyst or else testicular cancer. The vet did tell me that she wasn't 100% positive he had cancer, but based on what she knows, it seemed very likely. Hearing this absolutely broke my heart. I was told my options as to what could be done to find out for sure. The best option being to have him neutered, because they'd need to test for the cancer, but neutering him is the only way they can. I needed to check my finances, so I said I'd get back to her via phone the next day to make sure I could cover everything.
Well, I did. After mulling things over, and deciding that I really didn't want to risk losing him on the possibility he COULD have it, I called the vet back and agreed to set up the appointment to have him neutered.
Now, I have to openly say here, that this was the hardest decision I've ever had to make with Hunter. When I first bought him over 12 years ago, I promised myself I'd never get him neutered. I told myself I'd avoid that because I didn't see the reason since he'd only ever be around me and my roommates anyway. I have adamantly stood by that promise to myself and to him all this time. When I finally decided that I was going to go through with it that day, I was beating myself up over it, saying how I feel so bad that, through no fault of his own, I have to break my promise not to do it, because he now might die if I don't. I hate myself for this, but I know it will potentially save his life.
The appointment is on the fifth of the month, and I'm doing what I can to show Hunter as much love as I can before it happens. No, he's not dying, but I still feel bad this has to happen.

Switching from Telegram/Skype to Discord
General | Posted a year agoSince it seems a lot more of my friends use Discord more than Telegram lately, I've decided I'm going to be moving over to making that my primary messenger instead of Telegram. After the end of the month, I will likely not be logging on to Telegram as much as I used to. The same applies with Skype. Hardly anyone talks to me there, so I really don't see the point in logging onto the messenger anymore, given that, again, most of my friends use Discord.
With that being said, if there's anyone that wants to keep in touch with me, feel free to add me over on Discord. My username is bobbythornbody . Send me a note here with your username so I know who you are, if you add me.

Moving things from one account to another
General | Posted 2 years agoI've done some thinking and I've decided I'm going to move the On Our Own chapters that are on my
scatterpaws account over to this one. This is so I don't have to go back and forth between accounts to link things together. So if you see me uploading uploading the chapters from earlier on in the story, that's why.

Random silly thought
General | Posted 2 years agoThis is something that I've thought about for a long time, but, to this day, I still find it amusing. Does anyone else find it funny that, normally, Bobby's clothing consists of a shirt and cap, but the only time he wears something to cover his lower half is if he would otherwise be unclothed?

Did anyone send me some mail from Kearny, NJ?
General | Posted 2 years agoI got an envelope in the mail that was stamped from Kearney, Neww Jersey, but there was nothing in it, and there was no name on the elvelope. Did anyone here try to send me something? If so, please let me know, because, whatever was supposed to be in the envelope was missing. The envelope was fully sealed though.
An unexpected surprise!
General | Posted 2 years agoSo... Two years ago, for Christmas, I had ordered Henry and Steve, two of my roommates, a bunch of DVDs as Christmas gifts. One of them, however, never reached me. When I contacted customer support about it, I discovered it was out of stock, so they refunded me on it.
Well, now, two years later, with me having long since forgotten about it, and having just let the matter go, since I got my money back, I got an unexpected package from Walmart today. "I didn't order anything from Walmart recently," I thought to myself. Well, I opened it, and, inside was the DVD that had never made it to me before.
Two years had passed, and I had already been refunded on it, but they still kept track of the order and sent me the DVD anyway. Wow... just... wow.
