Wacom Cintiq 16...it's alright
Posted 6 days agoFelt like rambling about my experience with this drawing tablet since I've had it for a while and edited a few pics with it. I don't have any experience with other tablets so my comments are coming from using a touchscreen laptop with a touch pen that has pressure sensitivity.
Screen size is fine (16 ish inch diagonal) and it's big enough to see what I'm doing but small enough to actually sit on my cramped freemium desk designed when physical printing was the norm and multi screen setups were space-age nerd shit.
Colors are a notably faded compared to the laptop it's plugged into. But I follow the same editing formula for a while so this is only problematic near the final stretch of editing. I tried goofing around with the settings but I can't get it 1:1 in terms of color saturation. I already found the cope by switching my image to the laptop screen for evaluation so it's no big deal.
Touch pen? Literal garbage. Tip fell off but I glued it back on and it's been working fine so far. Buttons stick too proud of the pen body and they get accidentally pressed too often. Rubber grip is stretched out for some reason. My old laptop's pen with flush buttons was way nicer by a country mile.
Only responding to inputs from the pen is nice. On the old art laptop I had a lot of ghost touching and I could not rest my hand on the screen which was not comfortable.
Cable hell for...reasons. It requires plugging in an Eldritch horror to function, kinda annoying but the cords are long enough for me to move the tablet around.
Overall: harder better faster stronger. Finding a used one is probably better...as long as dumb ass UPS doesn't yeet it into the shipping abyss.
Back to dinotastic art and prepping for my next trip woo.

Obligatory "While FA is still not working" Journal
Posted 6 months agoSince everyone's doin it I'll ramble in a journal too.
Drawing tablet got lost in shipping (screw you UPS!), but the claim has been filed so hopefully that goes somewhere or I get a refund and, you guessed it, buy the same tablet again somewhere else.
But in other news, art is gettin close to being completed, so whenever this 2 hour maintenance is finished, I should have stuff to upload finally. Still working on the old laptop like the cop on their last day before retirement trope.
Anywho have a good one

Where the heck have I been
Posted 6 months agoObligatory "I'm still around" journal because it's been basically radio silence for a few months (or what seems like months). So here we go:
For the past while the first 3 months of the year are spent volunteering, so combined with work it's basically 12-14 hour days...4 days a week. Unfortunately art slows waaaaaaaaaay down and in April (i.e. now), I'm slowly getting back to the swing of things in catching up on 3 months worth of stuff I have to do.
The pencil-fueled degeneracy is still in the works: 3 comic pages and some misc sketches & stickers down the road. There's going to be yet another lil speedbump on the progress as I recently bought a new laptop to replace my aging art laptop. The old laptop's performance has degraded to the point where it's now aggravating to edit art, but luckily I found one that has better performance and costs less, even accounting for 7 years of things and stuff™ happening. Gaming rig is up next as that's even older than my art laptop, but I still got a lot of looking around to do...maybe before GTA 6 lol.

Two is One and One is None
Posted a year agoSince we're back or something.....some friends during the outage revealed that FA was the only place they have their stuff saved. Here's a friendly reminder to make backups of your content in multiple places, including at least one offline place.
Learned that the hard way years back when my only laptop fried; fun fact the hasty replacement that was a cheaper "I need it now" solution became my art computer that I still use, and the dead laptop got Frankenstein'd back to life and remains a gaming & streaming rig.
But anywho, business as usual. Have a good one

Update to art moving forward post update
Posted 3 years agoLooks like FA's latest update is messing with resolution unless one doesn't cough up the "pay-2-win" fee. So to keep it brief: it looks like the double page pics will likely cease indefinitely. I will have to look at making a test image and seeing what does and does not work, but do not be surprised if only single page pictures get uploaded from now on.
Edit: The test image was done a while ago to see how single page pics were affected (test page is here). From now on only 1 page pictures will be uploaded as 2 page pics will get nerfed beyond belief.

Mild sauce rant time: My love-hate relationship with RPin...
Posted 3 years agoOh boy another person complaining about roleplaying: cry me a river. Meanwhile water is wet. Gonna try to keep it (kinda) brief, but as I've tried to get back into roleplaying to a limited extent in the past year, I feel like I'm getting reminded of the exact reasons why I stopped doing it. Although I've found a few good friends over the past years that were genuinely entertaining to do RPs with, the overwhelming amount of mundane, repetitive, & predictable hasn't gone anywhere. Although life gets busy with work, art, and such, my motivation to set time aside for it hasn't been high because I've gotten so bored of it. I think RP inherently can be a wonderful tool for friends to communicate in ways that aren't typically possible with just regular sentences, but recently it's been as much of a thrill ride as walking up a flight of stairs, and in worse case a crutch that turns a simple chat into an awkward ordeal. Maybe I need to look around more or get my priorities straight or something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's all, art fishers go away, and have some 100% pure dad rock

Second Account! (For SFW art)
Posted 5 years agoAfter pondering this topic for a whopping 10 minutes, I have decided to make a second FA account dedicated to non-fetishy art. Similar to that comic journal that was done earlier, here's a Q & A format.
Why the heck did you go and do that nonsense?
Biggest reason being multiple audiences for multiple types of things, and it would be in my best interest to split the wholesome stuff from the not-so family friendly as I continue to develop and refine my work.
The Second Account AlpineArt
It will feature SFW and non-fetish related art, while this account will still have the fetishy stuff as per usual. "Show this to your family and receive just a slightly disappointing look" type of SFW, not the "we just blurred this tiny bit to bypass the maturity rating" SFW.
But what about here?
I'll still be actively using both accounts, just posting the appropriate content in the corresponding account. As of today, only 2 art pieces will be removed from my gallery and moved to the other account, because ain't nobody got time to dig through galleries and move stuff.
What does that mean about that art queue that never seems to change?
The amount of content that is created won't see an impact (because I am forever busy like always), just that the wholesome stuff will go on the second account when it's done.
Got any more questions and/or comments? Feel free to comment away.
Thank you for reading.

Ants Comics Information
Posted 5 years agoAs of 2021, I am tentatively done doing comics as they hog a lot of my time and I'd like to focus my effort on other art projects instead. I still want to use the species for other smaller projects but that's about it. Learned a lot during the way, what worked and what didn't, but this journal will stay up for reference. Been a good run but it couldn't last forever of course
Receiving plenty of feedback from the series of Ants comics, one of the things that has been said was making things a little clearer. Since these are created outside the norm of conventional comics, here's a journal that will hopefully clear things up... probably. :-P
How the heck do I read this garbaldy gook?
The comics are borderless, and purposely done because some panels of the comic require way more space than others, and borders would have been a bit cluttered.
The orange arrows are there to guide from panel to panel. To put things short, read the panels like one would read a typical Western book: left to right, then the line under, left to right, and so on.
Not all of them are related to each other by an overarching theme/story, but some do build off of each other as a quick 2 or 3 comic story line.
Below are quick links to the gallery folders where the comics are in. Comics that are linked together with a story line will be next to each other.
Character references and misc art is here
Ants 1 → Ants 3
Ants 2
Ants 4 → Ants 6 → Ants 8
Ants 5
Ants 7
Ants 9 → Ants 10 → Ants 11
