D90 Adventure
Posted 15 years agoExperimenting with my new Nikon D90. Don't have much in the way of lenses just yet, however i am in possession of a 50mm f/1.8 prime. It's absolutely a beautiful lens for its price point, with no noticeable distortions, great color and on. Only real drawback id say, is the modified focal length on the DX sensor (which realy isnt bad as it puts more challenge on the photographer to actually take a genuinely good picture and not be equip reliant). Best plus is again, the price. At around 120-140 bucks depending on the source, you can afford to lose one or two no problem (which you might as the body is plastic. The metal mount is nice tho).
Most of the time I'm experimenting with the various settings, and trying to master the art of florescent lighting (a challenge in and of itself). I'd say my favorite way to shoot is in Aperture Priority, and on a side not to that, its wonderful having the D90's twin scroll wheels to say, adjust white balance or ISO setting at a seconds notice.
Next thing I'd like to make a comment on is shooting video. Yes the D90 shoots in up to 720p digital video, with a jack to play it directly via normal video/audio connectors or HDMI. However it, like most cameras of its type right now, fall prey to something called a "rolling shutter". Best way i can describe it is a kind of ripple you can see in a footage, which is a by-product of what makes a DSLR a DSLR. Not a huge issue for me personally as i don't intend to shoot video much, but a drawback for those who feel they need it.
The menu system isn't the best thing in the world, its not exactly intuitive, but hey, it's at least not counter productive. The biggest problem here i thought is slapping certain settings and menu's in oddball places; in addition, some settings have a wonky default. Case in point, on default, the D90 is set to use the same numbers to name photo's every time you empty the memory card. Therefore, unless you take the time to rename every photo every time, you'll see a lot of those "would you like to replace the file of the same name" messages.
I'll have more to say on the camera later, but point blank, I'm very pleased with it.

Posted 15 years agoWas listening to some Bowling for Soup jams today and an idea popped into my head. Haven't written anything musically minded in awhile so here goes nothing. Warning to readers, i really like organ and orchestral pieces, so i really like using refrains.

The life i knew
Could have been no greater
But now i find that Ive lost a step or two
My friends have told me Ive been getting smaller
I feel immense
But not a hair bit taller
Should i have been just an inkling more their friend?

Quick Poem
Posted 15 years agoA model of poetry i love using, a set of Haiku's detailing a story or some such other thing. This i made while working this morning, after someone made a comment about a corporate ladder and the behavior of some people.
Snakes and ladders:
They were spitting from the balcony rail
A poison burns on still
Walk before the ladder on the hill
Round it do we tie our thoughts
Poison never leaves a trace
The knot withers thread bare of lace
Rung for rung I climb the span
Poison will make more demands
Chilling bone turns white to alabaster

business moving
from one locale to the next
when i woke up i wined and dined em'
showed daily papers

when i woke up the my mind grew darker
time came leaking
the busted ceiling
pull of a piece of my heart
when i woke up the walls were closing
the steel and mooring
surely shoring my life

Posted 15 years agoWas listening to a song earlier today and the thought popped into my head. When is the time we finally become politically correct? Seems to me you see a news article everyday that preaches ethical equality, the need to be nice about things and the like. A kind of Love Everybody pandemic.
On that note, will it ever be enough? Take it like this, if everything becomes so dumbed down by the need to be fair and equal, what then becomes of its point and value?

5 Minute Hero
Posted 15 years agoFeeling the earth underneath my paws and the wind rustle my fur, i walk. Along the way i am approached by a tall spotted hyena. "The town is in danger! The fires and killings are without cessation!" Panting and out of breath his collapse kicks up motes of dust into the air.
Spurred by the encounter, headlong i charge down the path. Ahead in the distance lies the town, the minarets and battlements of the towns keep aflame and screams permeating the air. Reaching the main gate, i sight a young wolf cub being carried away by monstrous beings. With quick determination and lighting reflex, my sword is brought down, severing one creatures head from what could safely be assumed as its spine.
Noticing the fall of their hell spawned brethren, the second creature wheels about and stares at me. Cold intellect races through its eyes, and as abruptly at it came it went. Abandoning the cub to the side of the towns wall, its charges forward slashing with its claws and biting with its teeth. "So careless...." i mutter as a throw my sword forward, planting itself in the earth several feet before me.
Racing forward i grip the pommel with my left paw and lift myself up, extending my leg. Eyes widening the creature is caught off guard as a firm kick is planted into its chest; as the creature is driven back and falls to the ground. Retrieving the sword, i cut an arc through the air, and drive it deep into the monsters heart. I feel its heartbeat putter and feebly wane as i wax in its dying moments.
The blade is removed and cleaned against an oiled cloth. Walking over to the cowering cub by the gate wall, i can hear her wimper in fear. "Excuse me miss, it appears you need a hero......."

Posted 15 years agoa mostly black furred coyote with a patch of white fur along chest and white around all 4 pawpads. physical structure would be around 5'10" and built like a runner e.e meaning a fair amount of lean but well defined muscle. Fur inside ears would be speckeld/shaded w/ a little gray and a small silver ear ring near the top of the left ear. eye color would be a blueish green. Hair style would be brown dreadlocks of a light to medium thickness extending from the midpoint of the skull to the halfway point of the neck all the way around the head, parted lengthwise and the top of the head for the sides, and a small horizontal split behind it to accomodate the dreadlocks behind the head.
would have a green goatee about 1.5 inches in length on the underside of the front end of the muzzle. tail would additionally have a 1-2 inch green tip. green points would be a lime/neon green in shade. just above hip oint on right side of torso would be a small green bone (Bone doubling as name). The black that constitutes the majority of his bodily coloring would not be a complete midnight sort of black, but a lighter approaching charcoal black.
