My exciting life changes.
General | Posted 12 years agoI'll keep this brief, since I've already mentioned things elsewhere.
First, Dago and I are having a baby this fall! We are thrilled to get to be parents. So far, all of my checkups have been perfectly normal. I have a very wiggly kid growing in there!
Second, we found an awesome little house to start our family in and we will be moving over the next few weeks. I can't do any heavy lifting or painting, so it's up to him and the help of our friends.
Lastly, business with the mischiefmakers has been phenomenal. We are truly grateful to have the most amazing clients. We have lots of suits coming up for May and this summer. The move might push back our reopening date a few weeks, but shouldn't push back any current orders.
I really hope you're all having a beautiful Spring break, Easter, day at the beach, whatever you're doing. Let me know what you have going on in your life right now! I mean it! I'd love to know. :)

General | Posted 13 years agoThis morning I had a zombie dream. I sorta have a zombie fetish... I love them. I'm addicted. What was strange about this mornings dream though, was I actually felt I had a bit of control over it! Usually, I feel like I'm watching a movie of myself.
So. If you are interested, here is what I can remember from this dream:
It started out with me and my husband Dago, and a friend, but I can't remember who it is now. Could be you! We found out someone had died either in our house, or close by, so we were taking him to the hospital. Outside the hospital was a mess. Cars everywhere, and bodies covering the streets. But we didn't notice the bodies. Dago and friend continue to try to get the mans body out of our car. I remember very clearly that the car door accidentally shut on the guys chest and Dago laughed a little about it. I scolded him and told him to be respectful, but I laughed inside too. As I was looking around at all of the cars, I was getting nervous. There were helicopters, but no people around except the three of us. Dago said he had friend were going inside to try to find someone to find some help and for me to stay with the car. I am left alone in a street of bodies.
I'm just shuffling around kicking some rocks, and I look up and notice the body in the car is blinking. He rubs his chest where the car door shut on him like it's a little sore. I look around for Dago, to be sure I'm seeing this right, and in that same moment, all the bodies that were in the street stand up. The one near me in the car looks at me, but I don't see any anger in his eyes. I thought about killing him. Because he's a zombie and that's what you're supposed to do. I always tell people in movies to kill the zombie before it can do anything but I couldn't. Dago yelled from the hospital doors, but I couldn't understand what he was saying, because Military is suddenly everywhere.
They were herding the zombies into groups! I was getting pushed around with the walking dead, and none were trying to attack me. I was scared, confused, separated from Dago. I was trying to get out of one of the herds, when I fell and twisted my ankle or my knee, something painful. Something about that act made one of the zombies take notice and I was trying to get up when it attacked me. It bit my shoulder, and I fought it off and was finally able to get out of the crowd of dead. I was up on a park table and I could see Dago across, still at the hospital with military around him, our friend and other people. I could also see that the military was not only herding the zombies, they were separating them into groups. They were in squares of about 20 zombies each.
I made my way over to the hospital on the other side, passing through the zombies. None of them looked at me. Like I was invisible. They didn't look at each other either.They looked at the guards though. That helped me avoid them. I finally made it over to Dago and when I turned around we saw them moving one of the groups through a door. He had noticed I was limping, and asked if I was alright. I quietly showed him the bite wound on my shoulder, and I could see the fear in his eyes. He knew what that bite meant. As he embraced me, we heard gunshots coming from the door they moved the zombies through. We decided not to tell anyone else about the bite, and to leave as soon as possible.
Dago, our friend and I found a door on the outside of the hospital that led to a hallway. The guards were distracted by a few walking dead that had stumbled out of the hospital. They were naked and had toe tags on.
As we moved through the dark hallway, there were a few doors, but one was open on the end.
I could feel myself dying through this walk. My limp held me back, and I could feel my insides twisting, my eyes changing. Dago told my friend to go ahead, to check out the open, lit door. He stayed with me as I became a zombie.
When I opened my eyes, the pain in my leg was gone, I could see Dago very clearly, though it was dark and I had a desire to taste him. But I didn't. I also couldn't talk any more. I couldn't remember how. Somehow Dago knew I wasn't going to hurt him. Our friend called for us quietly and asked if I was okay. Dago replied yeah, that I just tripped on something, and we moved forward. I was still limping, but it no longer hurt. Instead, my entire body had an ache I can't describe. We looked into the room to see a small group of military, sitting around, eating a snack, having a smoke or playing cards. One noticed us and jumped up. We retreated down the dark hallway, but he pursued, following us, we tried to hide in a dark corner and it almost worked, but the two parallel doors on either side of us flew open, as another pack of zombies was herded through. We stayed in the dark corner as most of them passed us by, going through the hallway to the open door on the other side of us. We watched the parade of zombies that had separated us from our pursuer, kicking away a few that tried to steer off course. When the zombies finished entering the room, the door closed, and we were left once again with army man that had followed us. He asked us to come with him, back to the safe room.
As we entered, first our friend, then Dago and last me, I locked eyes with a young, spiky haired, army man, who instantly drew a pistol and pointed it at my mouth. I froze, realizing how much I really did look like a zombie. My hair was tangled up, and my clothes were dirty from being pushed around in the mod of dead bodies. I still walked with the limp from my twisted knee, and I had blood running down my right arm from the bite on my shoulder. His stare never left my yellowed, bloodshot eyes. I was terrified. Dago couldn't do anything but yell at the young man. I couldn't even hear him though. The commander told him to put down his weapon. That I wasn't a threat. I was secondary. He did, begrudgingly, but continued to stare at me. Everyone in the room was staring at me. Including my husband. He was scared of me, and that made me very sad.
I heard a muffled gunshot and turned to the left, seeing through one sided glass, to the room next door where the parade of zombies had entered. They looked confused as well. The military people were looking in their mouths using the barrel of their guns. One zombie, close to the glass, tried to bite the gun, and was shot in the mouth, blowing his head off, so he had nothing left but a lower jaw. I was a little sad for this zombie, and the others getting re-killed. I didn't know what they were looking for, but eventually every one of them was dead. All I could do was let out a raspy whimper. My voice wouldn't work, and it was very frustrating. Dago came over and hugged me from behind.
That's when I woke up! Haha. Sorry for the super long post. I wanted to write it down before I forgot it because it was so so detailed. If you made it through that, wow! Congrats? If not, I understand. I just wanted to share it with fellow creative people.

I have tried typing it directly into my browser, (both firefox and explorer) I have tried linking to it from google, and I have tried linking to things other than the homepage, like hotel information, but it just won't load. I had the same problem last year and had to use someone else's computer to get my membership.
Anyone got any ideas on this?

Lower car insurance! Yay! (But I drive a scooter...)

Too old to try out for the "Real World." bummer...

I can rent a car all by myself! (except in Hawaii)
In ten years, I can run for president!
I can have a quarter-life crisis!
But seriously, I had a GREAT little birthday that was actually much more than I hoped.
I ended up with the day off.
Dago took me for a free Grand Slam for brunch.
I got to open my presents! Which consisted of candles, lotion, Sonic the Hedgehog shot glasses, and the most AMAZING customized Mischief Makers sign. It even has a SHEEP on it (our soon to be mascot). Oh! And the gourmet caramel apple I found in the fridge a day early... lol.
I spent the day doing our taxes (for free).
Mother in law gave me DELICIOUS perfume! (FANCY!)
Bestie (and her hubby) picked me up for drinks at our favorite bar.
My sweet coworker came.
Dago came after work!

This year is a little different, because I am now considered an independent contractor (or self-employed according to Turbo-Tax) as a dog groomer.
Last year, I made $13,000 total. No taxes were taken out. That's gross income.
Dago, my husband, made 22,000 with all of the usual witholdings. He works for a nonprofit government subsidized facility.
With his income alone, we get 1500 back federally, and 200 from state.
When adding mine in, we have to PAY over 1500 federal and like, 35 for state.
WHY?!
Why does the government hate me?
No, seriously though,
Why do they want me to pay over a months salary to them, when we're living in San Diego, paying some of the highest rent around? I mean, that is RENT. It's why I work, so we can pay rent. I can't afford that!!
Does anyone know why this is so high? It seems exorbitant to me, that my little dog grooming business can be taxed so severely...
Maybe if I just said it was a hobby... I only work 3-4 days a week... for like, 4-5 hours a day...
Or just left it off all together... would my "boss" get in trouble for that?
I highly doubt the federal government is gonna come after me for $1000 do you? There's like, drug dealers and white collar criminals to worry about... who rip off the state a lot more than little ol' me...
And isn't there some kind of newly-wed credit? Like, if you got married in the last year?

In related news, Logan and I have talked and while we will be working together, we will have separate commissions entirely. I'm really excited about starting this new venture and so is my ever supporting husband. (who will be making all of my noses... hehehe)

Making fursuits, taking commissions? Get a suit for AC or CF
General | Posted 15 years agoI've been wanting to do this for a while, but didn't have the confidence in myself to do so.
Since making my last one, I feel a lot better about my skill level and what I'm comfortable with.
silentstorm has also been wanting to do this, so we're going into business together! Exciting, right?
So, I have a couple of things lined up,
a partial for Dago,
Maybe something for a friend,
and a commission slot.
For a full or partial suit.
For now, my fullsuit will start at $600, my partial (head, tail, handpaws) at $400.
This would be for local pickup (San Diego Area) , or cost of shipping would be added.
A 30% non-refundable deposit would be needed before work could begin.
This covers the cost of fur and supplies needed to make your character.
If there is interest, I will be buying fur THIS WEEKEND. (Jan 22nd)
My completion date would be before Anthrocon (shipped) and Califur (pickup at con). (Beginning of June)
I would like your feedback to see if this is reasonable, or if you are interested.

Need Dream HELP, Fursuit Progress, and the Basic FC Meme!
General | Posted 15 years ago1.) I am currently a little sick right now, and slept through most of the afternoon yesterday. During which, I had the strangest reoccurring dream! I would love some help deciphering it from you experts out there. lol.
Don't read this if you're easily grossed out, just skip to #2!
DREAM: It starts out with a strange itchy feeling between my fingers on my left hand. I notice this and let my husband know. While I itch the webbed parts between my fingers they start to crack and bleed. My hand gets a bit puffy and I start to get concerned. The next time I look at my hand, the back part against my bones is cracked. I scratch at it and a whole flap of skin lifts up and all of the bones in my hand are missing and between my skin and muscle is some serious mold. Like, fluffy, fuzzy green and while mold. It was terrifying! I don't have insurance and I thought I was going to die!
Weird right? So I looked it up a bit and it turns out the Left hand has some significance, and so does itching. Couldn't find anything great about mold though.
2.) I am working on my suit again! Yay! She's coming along SO great! I got my antlers in, and they are secure. I'm finishing up the teeth and they'll be in tonight along with the eyes. The body is going good too! Got my hand paws done and I LOVE them! Almost done with my feet too!

Yes! I really like the group of SoCal furs we've met and befriended, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't like to include others!

Umm, stalk like, following around, or stalk like über-zoom camera lenses in my window kinda stalk? You know what, let's just say no stalking... You can talk to me though!
