I've not been able to sit down with my tablet for any more than ten minutes at a time, recently, so I'm a bit inactive on that front, but so far, I see there's less work prescribed when I draw on paper, so I'm doing so for the last week or so. Boy I need a scanner. A better one than the one my brother sat on and smashed. :U
Either way, I'm not going to be inactive on the art side of things, but I will be unable to upload things (since we've no camera either, blast it all). But hopefully it'll not last too long. I like fiddling about with things digitally, and CTRL+Z-ing in real life is awkward as all hell. Someone make the undo button real. Or I'll be getting a load more statues in the next while. @M@

Posted 13 years agoActually, more of a rant than the title would imply, but whatever. I need to get this off my chest and condensing this into 140 characters over twitter's too arduous.
I'm not looking for pity,sympathy, or anything, I just want to get this off of my chest.
As y'all know, I'm back home for the summer. So I'm on less than usual since I don't have a contaMy mother seems to think that I'm entirely to blame for using up ALL of our scarce internet every time I come home, we get about 15GB per month since we use one of those mobile dongles.
Either way, I'm the one being blamed for using it all up, just because I play a few hours of games with others since I can't do so back at college because firewalls, and because I'm looking up stuff like coding snippets, tutorials, maybe the odd youtube video here and there.
And she insists on video-calling her brother and sister basically every day across skype. For hours at a time. (Honestly, when she was skyping me while I was at college, the shortest, by far, was an hour and a half.) So yeah... I looked into how much she called others for, in the last few months. The average was 105 hours of video chat per month. Now let's run the numbers. Being generous here, since the picture quality isn't that good, but sound is; an hour of video chat across this would run 75~100MB. Extrapolating that, you'd have something like... 8~9GB of video calls per month. Less when I'm around, because I've the stick more of the time so she can't ring up people to chat on a whim. (She tries to skype my aunt who lives down the country when it's 3AM here and there. What.)
... 8~9GB out of 15GB. Hm. And that's just skype calls. She's an avid cat-video-watcher and refreshes the page to watch videos again (now I know where my brother got it from...), and it's just sort-of... Irksome, that she's as free with that but penalises me for two hours of playing TF2. (Which runs, at a stretch, 80MB for the two hours. It's very well-optimised, compared to some things.) Altogether, I think I use about 3~4GB per month, since I keep an eye on things as much as I can. Sometimes I go a little nuts, yes. But I keep it down as much as I can because shit like this'll get flung up. I always get blamed for when it runs out, but I'm the last straw that does it. She's the rest of the hay bale.
But yeah, anything mechanical/technological/with buttons that goes wrong when I'm here, I get blamed for it. So, I'm likely going to be pushed off of it more often since she doesn't realise (and won't listen to me trying to explain it to her, it's always my fault because she 'just skypes and watches videos', while I play games and other BAD things). Sorry, all. But I imagine that I'll be made scarce this summer.

Posted 13 years agoI logged in today after crashing since I'd no sleep the day before yesterday, so I was out for a bit long than usual (okay, twice as long as I normally do)... But I found I had a pile of new watchers and I think somewhere in the region of 200 fav's. What. The. Hell. Is. Going. Here. >:V

Posted 13 years agoYeah, finally arrived back home and got unpacked 'n all that jazz.
Just wonder how long things'll take, to take off in the way they always do. :T
Ah well, either way I've a lot more free time on my hands now, so a lot longer to work on projects 'n stuff. So yeah... Commissions, well, technically sketchmissions, will be opened as soon as I wake up enough to hold a stylus.
- How good are they?
They'll wind up being something like this here and this too, just cleaner and with better shading and better everything. I really want to get better practise with hatching and line quality, and stuff.
Of course if you want added extras like colour or things then it doesn't hurt to ask. The worst I can say is no, right? I won't petrify you. >:V
- How much?
I'll charge 'bout $5 or something for them, maybe $2 extra for every other character, since they take no time at all, just charging for the time it takes.
Also I realise that people mightn't want to fork out that to an artist who mightn't be able to draw 'em well enough, so if you're not sure, we can work something out. If you want one/more, send me a note/email with SEY in the title, also send ref's in the note/email because it makes things easier for everyone. x]
On a side note, I'll be using paypal only, ugh, annoying as it is, it's a necessary evil. Also I'll be using the invoice thingymajig so no need to worry about when to send the money, I'll ask for your email to send an invoice to you when I'm done and you're happy with it.

1. No more streams when I go back home. We've a (I think, not sure on the exact limit) 10GB bandwidth cap per month, on our 'broadband' back home. Upload and download. So there's going to be no streaming, sadly. Of any sort. I've still got time left before I go home for the summer, but these'll be the last planned ones.
And...
2. I'll be bored for a hell of a lot of the summer. And I've got... One, two.. Two pictures to do for friends. Then I'll have a clear list. So I'll open commissions to anyone who does want one. I've not got a sheet for the 'qualities' that I'll be doing, I took a sudden, large jump in picture quality, I feel. So that'll need an update too. It'll be roughly the same as before though, I'd say ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6886762/ ). That seems to be an okay price?
So yeah... Again, anyone wanting commissions... Send what you want to carapacedartmaker{ AT }gmail{ DAWT }com. Even if you want one and don't have the money to do it straight away... Well, if you want one that badly, go ahead. It's not like I need this to live, it'd be rude on my part to go "Sorry, no payment up front, no dice"... I've seen quite a few people miss out on stuff they wanted because slots were full by the time they got money... So yeah, if you -really- want one (And I don't think there'd be anyone out there interested enough to put an IOU), then pay me when you can (within reason, of course... A few months would be fine, years... Ehhhh.).
But then again, that works both ways,,, Though demand's low enough that I'll probably not say "No, sorry, I'm too busy to take yours, next time, maybe?". XD

Posted 13 years agoYeah, I got bored with it so now I'm figuring out how to make it better, I've been mucking about with it for about a week now and I've got a bit of a grip on it. Sure, even trying to work on my own thing but it's just a bit too expansive right now, as I'm doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work, that's not doing anything functional or visible at the moment, and I might be doing entirely the wrong thing, so I've decided to leave that for a later date.
What I'm askin' is, where do you all feel that the game's lacking? Be as general or specific as y'feel, hell, might even be able to point you to an already existing mod... But I'm just pickin' you lot's brains for ideas. :B

About my inactivity lately. D:
Posted 13 years agoWell, there's a few new drains on my time, as well as a problem with my tablet. I've borrowed some paints, so I can paint my lil' Tyranids, and it's just really bloody fun... Also I'm doing a little bit of modular papercraft (making little triangles out of paper that you can stick together to make nice shapes 'n stuff), working on a cobra that needs about 1000 of them little things... And biggest of all's an assignment that I've totally neglected, in proper lazy student style. It's due next week but there's a report too.
Oh, and the problem with my tablet is twofold, one, it crashed while I was streaming and now it's not being recognised, trying to fix it, at least it's showing up when I connect it (pressure sensitivity's wonky though), and two, my nibs have worn down and I don't wanna scratch the surface. That'll be solved soon though, I've nibs on the way.
Anyway, BACK TO BLOODY BORING WEB DESIGN! :D

But either way... I'll be offerin' bust commissions, of characters from about waist-up, proper colour, 'n stuff, for about £6, about $10 or so about the time of writin', and I'd do 'em in a stream but sadly heading home for the next couple of weeks and my time on the internet there is sporadic at best, so that wouldn't be the best idea (plus there's a data cap, that's even worse), so I can't do that.
Is anyone interested, need I ask, or if y'aren't, may I ask why? :P
Just not up to scratch to be hirin' myself out yet, or do I just not tickle yer fancy? Heh, any feedback's appreciated.

I played it to bits when I was a little kid, and that song's just scorched into my mind. I love and hate it at the same time 'cause well, awesome song, but I just break down if it's played. D:

I'm in a bit of a pickle, creativity-wise..
Posted 13 years agoSomeone stuck a stopper on my creativity and I'm having a little bit of trouble uncorking it again. Specifically when it comes to drawing myself. I can't settle on a singular design, I always tweak and nudge, pull, prod, poke, change things and I don't have a concrete look. Or still amn't anywhere near it. I thought I caught it recently but there's just something that's not letting me draw myself without it looking ARGHAWFUL, and that's when I force myself to sit down and draw myself to the end. Which is rare, to be honest.
So I ask you lot, especially artists/writers, do you've any tips on helping creativity flow? This blockage is sorta like a too-tight collar on an uncomfortable shirt, and I want rid of it...

But only opening a couple, 'cause I don't want to get overwhelmed and there wasn't that much demand for it last time... Eh, anyway... Without the scribbly lines, if you don't want them.

Posted 14 years agoFirst game of TF2 in the new year. Not even ONE MINUTE into the game, I get kicked for having a ping of 237ms. I literally -CANNOT- help that. We don't have a phone line coming to our house, so we've to use a mobile dongle which MOST DEFINITELY will cause some latency. There's no wires, so we've to go by air. Yeah, my average ping is usually about 250 or something, so it was slightly better than usual. Yet even on the BEST of days, I STILL can't play on a LOT of servers because some numbnuts think that OH GOD HE'S GOT HIGH PING HE'S LAGGING THE SERVER. KICK/BAN HIM. Yes. I have been banned from QUITE A FEW servers for being 0.2 seconds off.

Server lag is caused by it being overwhelmed by too many requests at once. Latency, which is to say, PING, is the amount of time it takes for data to make a round trip between your computer and the server. IT DOESN'T CAUSE THE SERVER TO LOCK UP. So DON'T hide behind that lump of steamy horse crap. That would make you lose a few teeth if I were near you, because I'm fed up of hearing it. It's not true.
Now, me, I can't help my OHGOD, 0.2 SECONDS LATENCY, because there's simply nothing better for my house to have, the phone companies won't lay the bloody cables for me to GET better internet, and they don't even DO broadband in our area. YES, we're THAT backwater. So I'm fed up of people kicking me, because I'm a little bit twitchy and I facestab someone, or I "shoot someone from around a corner". That's because, oh, wait, VALVe have a system in place to LET people like me, with HIGH PING, to play the game on equal footing with people that have SOOPAHFAST broadband and latency in the single digits. That was a big thing in online games, lower latencies meant you were 'better' at the games. VALVe saw that this was a point where people were getting aggrivated about, WELL, the people LIKE ME, who don't have, or CAN'T GET decent internet. It's called "Lag compensation". Yes, they have a system in place to STOP lag from horribly affecting gameplay. Yes, it's responsible for the phenomenon of "bendy bullets", curving around walls to kill you when there's no line of sight, and Spys' "facestabs", as well as other things, but that can happen to BOTH high AND low ping players... They MADE this so that EVERYONE could play together and HAVE FUN.
But a LOT of people don't know about this. So they blame EVERYTHING on people with high ping. Bad sniping, the team losing, anything that goes wrong. Hell, there was one time I was blamed for a lag-quake, after being on the server for longer than everyone else there. Lag-quakes, are, in essence, the server basically fibrillates, doesn't update or recieve the clients' data packets, so it sends out the exact same things over and over and over again, causing people to move up and down rapidly in place, like an earthquake. I got blamed for that, despite them all joining after I did. And then I got summarily kicked, and I found out when trying to rejoin that I got banned as well.
LOOK. TF2 HAS SYSTEMS IN PLACE, TO LET PEOPLE PLAY ON EQUAL FOOTING, DESPITE SOME HAVING WORSE OR BETTER CONNECTIONS. They're not the best, but they're fair in the sense that they do the EXACT same to everyone. In other FPS's, which PROBABLY don't have them in place, then I can understand kicking people who're twitching and rubberbanding all over the place. They'd be impossible to hit. But TF2, hell, your CLIENT says if you hit them or not, and sends that notification to the server. Which rolls back to the time your client sent that at, and goes "Oh, it DID hit them, okay, they're dead now."... It keeps RECORDS of what goes on. And it flicks back to see where people were at certain times, and check for collision AT THE WAY THE WORLD WAS AT THAT TIME. Low latency, it goes back a few milliseconds. High latency, it goes back a bit more. Fact of the matter is, VALVe did design this well. Sure, some people BITCH about getting shot around corners, when they do the same to others without knowing it. It's a bloody game. Get over it. You're not dead permanently. If you're THAT angry with them, then kill THEM when you respawn. HAVE FUN, don't be a prick because you got killed 'unfairly'. You've killed plenty of people in that, in the same 'unfair' situations, but they shrug it off and put a bullet in your brain or a rocket up your ass after.
tl;dr, VALVe beat you's to it, you don't need ping limits. Stop ruining games for people who're unlucky and just want to have fun, just because they're a bit twitchy. I can't play with my hats now because I'm so angry at TF2 morons.
