selling at AC is such a pleasant experience, people are more courteous and respectful than at busy craft fairs and it's full of friends so I plan to continue having a table there for as long as I can. plus Pittsburgh is so weird and awesome

Glow in the dark stuff? I'm going with a translucent resin from now on for them, so I can cast big GID skulls at a reasonable price.

Colorful cast skulls, some with neat special effects (faux marble, faux granite, shimmers)?

Basically I'm not sure if I should bring the same large replica stock supplemented by new stuff, or if the new stuff should be my focus this year.


(PS I did go a bit overboard with thinning my gallery... I went mad with power. Oops)

the last few days have been hard for me. I found out I had been ripped off by a hugely successful etsy shop recasting my little mini sparrow skulls. Link above details things. The offender's links dont work anymore, but the shop is mrd74

I fought, and, I won. I sent him a message with the proof, he sent a message ignoring it but threatening me, I replied standing my ground. An hour later I noticed that he had taken all the infringing listings down. A silent admission of guilt.

Dont ever let people tell you that art theft will just always happen and forget about it. Fight. Learn your rights and how to protect yourself.

Dont ever tell someone that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". Copying HURTS, financially, mentally, and even physically.

Filing for a copyright registration is an excellent way to protect yourself, and it only costs $35 http://www.copyright.gov/ . Read as much as you can about the process before you file. If you are uncomfortable doing it yourself, many lawyers offer flat fee packages to do them. Bonus points for filing in the first 3 months of publishing your creation - then you can have lawyers fees added to a suit if you go to court.

DMCA notices are something you can do yourself. Sites like etsy, tumblr, etc have DMCA procedures laid out in their copyright info pages. All you have to do is fax or email a letter (check the site's policy or google DMCA for the format/info) and the site will usually take the infringing work down. The DMCA system exists to protect web hosts from being liable for hosting infringing things - places like etsy will take things down automatically because they don't want to be liable. There are safeguards in place so that if someone wrongfully submits a DMCA against you, you can counter.

I have been ripped off by people directly recasting my work at least 5 times. I fight. I have anxiety and depression issues so it is extremely hard on me, but worth it. Always fight for yourself. If you need advice, email me.

he's back home, and has been happily purring and cuddly by my side all day. he's doped up and his shaved patches of fur make him look a bit funny but he's doing much better.

he's on a special diet from the vets, though it's a short term food but it looks like it will last a month. after I'll be switching him to raw

I've been boiling a whole chicken all day and have some nice broth to give him. he'll drink all the broth from wet food but leave the food, so I'm hoping he'll drink a bit of this a day to up his fluid intake

it's good to have my best friend back

his vet bill was nearly a grand, but thanks to everyone's support from the kickstarter I had a little bit of profit set aside so paying it doesnt cause any hardship (it just means I wont be buying myself an ipod for xmas ;) ). I am very thankful that people support my work and I, and in turn I am able to help those I love

he had the same problem as a month ago (where crystals form in the bladder and create a blockage preventing them from peeing), only worse this time. he was visibly in a lot of pain

I took him to the vet first thing this morning, and they're keeping him for a few days. sedation, catheter, IV fluids. reading up on it it sounds like a pretty routine thing but I cant help but worry

no one is at the vet office overnight which worries me. there's probably not a lot that can go wrong but of course I'm going to think the worst. the image of him alone in a cage miserable and scared wont leave my head

I'm so used to knowing where he is in relation to me at all times, I really hate not having him here. I'm not a very social person, I don't get out much. he's the reason why I'm not a useless depressed lump

-edit - vet called, they pulled his catheter and he's doing better. more IV fluids today/tonight and I should be able to get him tomorrow

I'm currently dealing with a woman who defies all logic and common decency. If you follow me on tumblr you know what I'm talking about.

This is taking a pretty big toll on me. I have depression and anxiety issues that I manage pretty well, but this is affecting them in ways that are not good. So sorry if I take a little longer than usual to get back to you, etc.

Basically she bought a parakeet and bat from me a while back, and I noticed she was selling copies in her shops. She alleges that she gets them from a caster in Spain, but has not given me any evidence or information to back that up. Even if it's true, it's still infringement.

I had the image up on my tumblr, as well as screens of our conversation where she says it's not her problem because someone else is casting them, but she had tumblr take them down.

She has been incredibly rude and dismissive. I have a lawyer involved but he's painfully slow. I had etsy and Rebels Market (another site she sells at) take them down, but she now alleges she has new skulls and put some of the listings back up. Her casts "based on all new skulls" are actually the same, just marred up and cast worse, with horrible photos. For example the parakeet has a line carved up the middle. Parakeet skulls dont have that, and the rest of the skull is equally deformed.

She doesn't sell much online. That much is clear. However, it appears that she sells to shops and does several large festivals, one is today that has a booth fee of $250. You dont pay that unless you're making much more profit. So who knows how many of the recasts she's selling.

I'm waiting to hear back from my lawyer, there's not much anyone else can do at this point, except be aware of her deplorable behavior.

super chill year

Didn't make a whole lot of interesting stock - no new colored or glow skulls, only a few wolves - so I didn't expect to make as much as last year. So sales wise is was okay and I have some stuff left for etsy order stock.

I stayed at  sebastian's house with  jerkcentral, which is a super cute house a few miles away from the con center, so once we drove there after the dealer's den closed we stayed there. It made for a pretty anti-social con but very pleasant and relaxing. I've never been so rested and not stressed out for a con as this.

Anyways, now that that's over I get to focus on my metal shop and Kickstarter rewards!!!! I may close the etsy shop for a while, I haven't decided. I'll make an announcement beforehand if I decide to do so.

Driving home tomorrow and back to work Tuesday.

I should be doing a last frantic push to get AC stuff done but I feel like shit and have fallen behind. Thankfully I'm not too stressed about that fact. It took me a few years to realize it's not the end of the world if you don't work yourself to death with con prep.

I'm staying at a friend's house and not one of the hotels, so if you want to grab me for something (not physically grab I will hurt you >( ) you'll have to track me down while I'm working to arrange something or I may not be around

my stock is going to be light this year, I'm afraid.

I'm starting prep much later than usual, plus I'll be working on the kickstarter rewards.
I should have about the same amount of jewelry stuff I had last year, plus some new things (cufflinks, different style of bracelet, etc).

But I won't have as many of the larger skulls, or glow in the dark ones... I'll make a post before AC of what I'll have. If there's anything you'll kill me for not having lemme know and I'll try to make sure I have that thing. (Yes DK I know you want all the glowies :3)

Last year I literally worked myself sick (I felt like I was going to faint while packing up the table on Sunday, had a fever) so I'm kinda looking forward to a light year.

After two days even the oily residue has hardened, so it looks like no ones orders will be impacted by my mistake. It would have taken me a week to remake all the molds

Also, in case anyone was wondering - I had mentioned launching my kickstarter this week, but I'm going to wait until the week of the 21st so I can get some overdue projects out of the way, and so I dont rush the finish work on the example pieces. On the upside this means silver mini sparrow stud earrings and rings will be added to the list of reward possibilities. In the meantime I will still post WIPS (though more on my tumblr than here, parliamentrook.tumblr.com ), and a price list once I iron that out.

shake the everloving crap out of your resins before mixing!!!

I just opened up a new box and apparently didn't shake part B enough... I thought it was thinner than usual but I didn't stop to actually think about it before pouring my molds.

It should have cured by now, its starting to gel up slightly but I'm afraid I may have to spend my entire work day cleaning out uncured resin from a bunch of molds.

ughhh I'm so dumb

I guess I'll go get a sandwich while I pray for this to cure
