"I MAKE SKULLS"
I'm freaking out in the best possible way. Champagne in the fridge for the 1000th sale. Whoever makes the 1000th sale will get lots of extra goodies :P
Currently working on the croc, parakeet, dove, and the tiniest little steenbock horns on a skullplate for plaques. Croc skull is complicated and giving me a headache, but with luck I've finally figured out a good way to make the mold. Dove skull mold is 1/2 done, which I got after many requests to make a "Ginger Snaps" necklace. Parakeet skull mold is done and I'll be trying it out today.
Wolf skull should be here in the next week or so and damn it if I don't have wolf skulls in the shop by mid February I'm going to go crazy because I've been meaning to for like a year.

if you have a problem with an order from an artist...
General | Posted 14 years ago... please let them know before giving them bad feedback.
we can't fix it if we don't know about it. :(
also got my first "neutral" feedback about a necklace taking too long. my 2 week production time is in my policies, at the top of my shop, and in each listing... I don't know how I can be more clear :(
also don't send the artist a note about how a work of theirs "urks" you. ok. I'm not sure how that's anything but rude. "The only thing that kind of urks me is that it looks really plain with the 'one tone' plastic look." ok. that's how I like them... :(
these are the things that make me hesitant about checking my email :(

MAKE SURE YOUR ADDRESS IS CORRECT WHEN YOU BUY THINGS
General | Posted 14 years agoFUCK
two packages I sent out Saturday will likely be coming back to me... because after they were ordered the buyers sent me etsy convos, (WHICH ARE HORRIBLE, THE WORST PM SYSTEM, WORSE THAN FA NOTES EVEN), that got lost in meaningless "I ADDED YOU TO MY TREASURY~*~*~*~" convos, that I'm just sorting out right now.
I ship through paypal, so the address you have on paypal is the one I ship to. It's input automatically.
I try to be organized and stay on top of this stuff but I'm not perfect... and technically I guess it's my fault, I sent them PM's apologizing, time to wait for the angry emails back
Do people a favor and update your shipping BEFORE you buy things. please. pleeeeeeease
fuckfuckfuckfuck

why I don't do turtorials or advice
General | Posted 14 years agoI've never had information spoon-fed to me.
I do research until my head hurts, and learn from trial and error. If I fuck up, it's an expensive mistake, but then I know better for next time. I spent 10 years of my life in art schools, and have a good amount of debt because of it. I chose my work over my social life, and have suffered for it.
Knowledge isn't free, you have to work for it. Don't get pissed off if I don't answer your questions, especially if it's something I've struggled to learn myself. Most of the questions I get asked can be answered with a bit of time looking around at what's already online. I did it, why can't you?
What I do is the only source of income I have right now. If it was easy, and I gave everyone the info on how to do it themselves, what use would there be for me to sell my work? The term "trade secret" exists for a reason. I already have a copycat on ebay. I don't need any more competition, especially any I've fueled myself.
This isn't directed at any one person. I know you probably don't think it does any harm to ask me how to do things, and sometimes people get mad at me when I don't. Please don't get mad at me. This journal is to help make it clear how I feel about it, please understand that.

resellers at AC
General | Posted 14 years agoThere was a table at AC selling cheap made in china pocket watches for $45 and up.
Watches that you can buy for mere PENNIES were being sold for over $45.
Ok, buying something and reselling it at a con, no big deal. But that much of an increase in price is kind of fucked up.
This kind of shit is all over etsy, I was surprised to see it happening in the dealer's den at AC.

copying taxidermy parts
General | Posted 14 years agoI made this post on fursuit addressing the issue of re-casting taxidermy parts for profit: http://fursuit.livejournal.com/4696029.html
Before anyone says, but wait breakspire, you cast skulls for profit, you didn't sculpt those! My response is:
skulls are natural objects, not an object made by man. Mother nature has no copyright. It's not quite as simple as sticking a skull in silicone. There's a lot of work that goes into making a skull ready to cast. First I source out an original skull, thicken any thin sections, plug up all the holes, strengthen it if needed, then make a complicated (most of them anyways) silicone mold. There's a lot of work that goes into making a skull ready to cast.
This is why I refuse to re-cast replica skulls from other companies. Sure it would be easy to buy a rare or endangered replica and re-cast it, but that company did all the hard work. They got the permits to HAVE that skull in the first place. All the other replicas I've seen are stamped with the companies name, so I'm sure they feel the same way.
Anyways, this issue has been weighing on me for a while, so there it is. Now I need a drink.

I'm alive
General | Posted 15 years agoI think it's been a year and a half since I've been on here.
I spent 4 months in rural Ireland where a cow could literally kill the internet, came back, finished my last year of college and got my BFA in sculpture. Now I'm unemployed living in my mom's basement (though it is a SWEET basement, and I've been job hunting for months), and I have the time and desire to make random crap again.
So hello again :>
