Making an A$$ out of U and ME... the assumption game. XD
Posted 11 years agoYou know what they say when you assume something, you make an ass out of u and me. :P So, what assumptions do you have about me? Tell me something you assume about me and I'll tell you if you're right or correct your faulty assumption. Seen a bunch of people doing this and thought it would be fun!
Follow 'em Friday! H
Posted 11 years agoBeen a while since I did one of these, so back to the grind! XD
As a refresher, here's what this is all about. I watch a lot of people, for a variety of reasons. Here's some of the ones I like starting with H who meet the following criteria:
A. Produce their own art
B. Are active
C. I think the majority of my watchers would enjoy watching as well, if they're not already watching.
So... without further ado... I give you the letter "H"
Hexaod This green foxy produces a lot of really cool artwork and has a nice soft style that makes me smile. Not too toony, not too realistic, just a nice balance.
hitnrun17 Does some awesome sketches and adorable colored pics as well. Troy has a grasp of posing and movement that is very very good, and well worth a look. Just wish he would do more!
hyenamikio This Hyena deserves more watches than they've got, IMO. Quite talented, and it's a mystery to me why they're not more popular. If you get one tip out of this journal and watch just one extra person, make it this one. XD
Honorable Mentions:
These are some folks who don't quite fit my 3 criteria for mention, but are still pretty cool anyway for whatever reason, either as really nice people or good artists who aren't active, etc.
hdofu Very friendly and a lot of fun to talk to
honeypuppy Love her art style, but not very active
harakoa Brilliant artist who seems to have disappeared from the site entirely. :(
That's it for H! Not that many of them, but H isn't that popular of a letter I guess.

Back from vacation!
Posted 11 years agoOh man... Did I need that or what? Y'all may have noticed I've been a little quiet these last few months and especially this last week. Truth is, I've been ridiculously busy and stressed out at work for a while now and stretched really really thin. It's been years since I've had a real vacation, a chance to get away for an extended period of time and actually relax without worrying about going back to work in a few days.
So, this last week I was away at my family's timeshare in beautiful Carlsbad just me and my dad. (My mother is a big source of stress for the both of us, so this was a really good thing). Had a wonderful time, sitting around reading, driving around the back hills of San Diego just exploring stuff, photographic odyssey to the San Diego Zoo and the Botanical Gardens, and just an all around easy going time. While I did take my computer along to possibly write or draw, there really was no place I could set up privately in our condo so I couldn't actually do much of anything, but that's OK.
All in all, I had an absolute blast, and I'm sorry if I've been particularly unresponsive to things here and on skype and such. I will be streaming again tomorrow, so that's something to look forward to as well. I've missed a lot of you, and I can't wait to get back into the groove of art and such.

DS Friend Codes

Casting Call for upcoming project!
Posted 11 years agoOk. I've been thinking about it and I've decided I want to do an audio/visual version of my story "Of Tunnel Rats and Badgers". However, while I can do the voice of Brock (who is the narrator as well) and possibly Az, there's just too many characters for me to voice all of them, and some I simply cannot do at all. My voice is particularly poorly equipped to do females.
So... here are the parts I'm looking for and a brief character description as well as what I'm looking for in a voice actor. I'm looking for people who can actually produce decent recordings (use a mic and recording software, don't just voice memo off your phone please). This is important as I don't want to spend a ton of time tweaking audio files to make them blend together well.
If you're interested, reply to this journal with what parts you might be interested in. I will send you some lines to record and give you a place to send them to.
Parts:
Cpl. James "Az" Aster: hare, 27 years old. Second in command of the squad. Tall and lanky. Tends to be a bit of a mother hen. Voice should be deep, Midwestern (Chicago/Detroit) and have an African American tone to it. (Not gangsta though)
Pfc. Michael Clancy: weasel, 20 years old. Kind of a big, dumb jock from Philadelphia. Not as smart as he likes to think he is, but brave and loyal. Looking for a Philadelphia/Pittsburg type voice, deep.
Pfc. Peter Gorski: rat. 20. Also from Philadelphia, and best friends with Clancy. Highly intelligent and a tech wiz, but also a bit of a goofball. Looking for a mid tone Philadelphia type voice, but he also has a character he likes to play with a (bad) Russian accent.
Pfc. Enrique Rojas: red fox. 23. Inner city west coast Hispanic. Touchy and suspicious by nature, Rojas tends to see the worst in things, and his life tends to back up his negative views. Mid-tone mexican accent, occasionally incorporating Spanish slang and lingo.
Pvt. Spencer Weylan: ferret. 18. Small and slight, Wey is the youngest and newest member of the squad. He's a bit of a scoundrel and a natural thief, but highly charming and very charismatic. Wey comes from the Pacific Northwest and speaks with a fast paced, higher pitched voice.
Lt. Daniel Edelman. 30. A dachshund with a bantam rooster complex. He's smaller than pretty much everybody, so he makes up for it by being absolutely vicious. Frankly, Edelman is an asshole par excellence. He almost always sounds arrogant and sneering, with a plain Midwest accent. Also slightly insane.
Doctor Emelia Sorenson: cat. 26. Emelia is a brilliant scientist with a privileged past. Tends to be flirty or downright sultry. She is basically southern aristocracy, and speaks with a soft Georgian high-class accent.
Respond if you're interested and I'll send you some sample lines to record for me.

Trades Open (take 2)
Posted 11 years agoDammit! Accidentally deleted the trade journal I had up before, so please respond again if you want a trade with me. Ok. I've cleared my queue enough that I think I can take on a few more trades. XD
I'm gonna take 3 slots.
1.
2.
3.
These are NOT first come first served, and can be of any artistic "level". All I ask is that you give your best effort to the pic.
Here's how I'm gonna pic them.
1. I'm only going to pick characters I have NOT drawn before. (If I've drawn you before, sorry... I want to draw people I've haven't drawn yet)
2. Post your ref and an idea of what you'd like drawn. (You can include my characters if you want)
3. I will pick ideas that I like, and that inspire me to ask you to draw something related for me.
4. Normal TOS apply as far as what I will and won't draw.
So, get to it! Gimme ideas, I might just take you up on it :3
I will keep this journal up through Wednesday and pick the pics I want to draw on Wednesday night.
Sorry for the inconvenience if you responded to the previous one. I'm tired, and I accidentally removed the previous journal instead of my streaming notification...

I HAZ A NEW CAR!!! 8D
Posted 11 years agoAfter 22 years of driving old, junky cars... I finally have a brand new, all-for-me car! I've been looking for a year, and tonight, with a little down payment help from my folks, I bought a 2014 Subaru Impreza 2.0 premium 5-door.
For years, I've been plagued by bad credit and low-paying jobs. It was only recently that my financial situation has turned around enough that I could start building credit again and finally having a life. So, while I don't have any photos to post right at this moment as we didn't wrap things up til after the sun went down, expect to see some photos of my new car soon!
I AM SOOO FREAKING HAPPY RIGHT NOW! OMFG!!!

I don't get it...
Posted 11 years agoThis is something that's bugged me ever since I got watched by the first watch-spammer... I don't get it! What's the point? Do they think that people will.be excited to be watched by an account that will never actually see their work? Heck, I can barely keep up with the 450 or so I'm watching, how the hell do they manage with 15,000 watches???
These watch-everybody accounts have absolutely no value to anybody, and I can't even imagine what the owners of these accounts are getting out of this. Now, the most recent one is offering a java-script plug in that will allow ANYBODY to spam watch. This is getting out of hand, and frankly I wish FA would do away with these junk accounts. Frankly, it sucks to get a new watch notification, get excited, and then discover it's functionally a spam-bot.
If you're considering doing one of these yourself for whatever reason, I beg and implore you... Please don't.
Sláinte, Brock

Follow 'em Friday! G
Posted 11 years agoI missed last week... I don't know why but I did. Anyhoo... here's a list of artists starting with G that a) are active, b) do their own art, and c) are pretty darn good and worth a look. :P
genericpetname Mari is a FANTASTIC artist who has a unique style all her own. Works with traditional media, which I highly respect, and I absolutely love her work. One of my faves. :3
gamestreamer Psudo is one of the most prolific writers I know of, and is very very good. He's also one of the few people I know who does story commissions, so if you've got a story to tell, but don't know how to get it down on paper, check him out.
gordo Doesn't seem to do much, but I wish he would do more. He's quite good. Nice soft style to his art, and often a lot of fun to look at.
gus-the-hedgehog He's a skunk, not a hedgehog, so try not to get too confused. XD Does a lot of cute art, and always has good ideas for things too.
Uh... that's all I've got. Not a lot of G's I guess. XD
Anyhoo... have a splendid day.

Posted 11 years agoIs freaking awesome!!! Excellent episode tonight. Had everything you could possibly want from the series, and best of all... A chance for Peter Dinklage to absolutely freaking SHINE as Tyrion Lanister. Seriously, dude deserves another Emmy for this night alone, much less the rest of the series.
Now, I've read the books, so I know where things are going, but I've gotta say, they're doing a fantastic job of filming this epic story, and the casting is absolutely superb.
Ok... I'm done blabbing now... Night y'all!

Posted 11 years agoI'm soooo sorry I'm running so slow right now. I don't know why my production levels have slowed to a crawl, but I AM working on stuff. It's just going really really slowly. Hopefully things will pick up next week when I have some more free time on my paws. Thank you all for your patience, and I haven't forgotten any of you.

Whatcha Wanna Know Wednesday!
Posted 11 years agoQuestions? Ask!
Follow 'em Friday! F... oooo, alliteration!
Posted 11 years agoSo... artists starting with F... There's a few of those! Focusing on artists who a) do their own work and b) are active. "Artist" is defined as artists, writers, songwriters, etc
fangthefox Super-adorable chibi/manga style art. Absolutely love his work, and its always a pleasure to see pics from him in my inbox.
fink More people probably know Kalida than they do Fink, but this puppy's got some mad skillz too, and if you're watching one, you should definitely be watching the other too.
fleetingshadow Just recently found this guy, and I'm still getting to know his work. You should too. XD
Foxenawolf Brilliant artist, story-teller, comic artist, you name it. Also highly prolific with her comics. Seriously, I don't know how she does it, putting out a page a day, plus whatever art she manages to put together! Well worth the watch
FriskyWoods One of the reasons I joined FA. Very caroony, but what I really like about Frisky's work is the sense of humor that goes into it, and the work he's put into the character of his characters. Good stuff. Very good stuff.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
FWOF is chazor's account, and he seems to be moving more in that direction these days, so if you're following him, you should follow this account as well.
fjf Sadly, Jade is retiring from drawing, so the account is no longer truly active, but he has a HUGE portfolio of very good art to browse through.
fenblack Really nice guy, and gets lots of good art of his characters. :icon fuzzy_wheels: One of my best badger buds, and I can't do F's without giving him a shout. :P
If I've forgotten anybody, I may update this later, I'm kinda rushed this morning. See ya later!

Freaking out a little... *UPDATE 6*
Posted 11 years agoOk... I'm a bit worried here. Just got word of a pretty bad fire about 10 miles upwind of my home. There's also very heavy, dry winds going on right now. Got word they evacuated the high school less than 5 miles from my place, and I can't get hold of my folks. We SHOULD be ok, we're at least a mile from any brush areas and have a steel roof so embers won't catch, but this is still very scary.
If you're the praying type, please pray. This is extreme fire danger for the area, and a lot of people live in this area.
I'll update as I hear more.
*UPDATE 1*
Got ahold of my folks, we have not been evacuated. The fire is at 250 acres and growing, but it's also on the other side of a major freeway so it's unlikely to cross that line, though with the heavy winds (60 mph+ gusts) it is still a possibility.
*UPDATE 2*
Fire is closer than I thought, but shouldn't be a danger to us. Just a lot of smoke at this time. The evacuated the area about 3 blocks north of us, and I doubt they'll expand that south at all. I'm intimately familiar with where the fire started as it's one of my favorite hiking areas, and I did a photography project at university up in that area.
No immediate danger, or likely danger, but still scary.
*UPDATE 3*
Winds have shifted. They've moved the evacuation area further south, but they haven't said how far west the new zone is. It is now possible that i might have to evacuate. Unfortunately, I don't have any more info than that at this time.
*UPDATE 4*
Southern evac shift is only in effect 3 miles east of us, we're still considered safe. I'm still freaking out though. With the weather conditions as bad as they are, almost anything can happen.
*UPDATE 5*
Home. Things are smokey and there's a lot of ash around, but not as bad as I feared. We're still a bit closer to the evacuation zone than I'd like, and the wind's swirling around in weird ways and pretty strongly, but hopefully things will be OK. I just worry that when the sun goes down the wind's REALLY gonna pick up and start blowing ash and embers everywhere, spreading things out more. Still no aircraft fighting the fire, too much wind, and not likely to see more till late tomorrow when the wind dies down. Wait and see. Fire's still 0% contained.
*UPDATE 6*
The mandatory evacuation orders were lifted last night, so everything seems to be safe for the time being, but it looks like they weren't able to make much headway against the fire during the night and it's still 0% contained, and winds are still a major issue. So, while my place is in no danger at this time or in the foreseeable future, I'm still gonna pack a bag with a few clothes and take my laptop with me to work today in case anything crazy happens and my folks are forced to flee while I'm at work. Thank you all for your concerns and kind words yesterday. It was really stressful, and I appreciate all y'all's support.

Posted 11 years agoNot that many E artists that I'm watching. But... there's a few that are worth mentioning at least! Keep in mind, these are people who a) do their own art, and b) are at least semi-active. Also, I consider any form of artistic expression (art, music, writing) to be art. :P
elton Not super active, but this adorable baby-dragon does have some really cute art he's done and he keeps getting better and better. :3
emeritus_terciel KYUUUU! Who da kyu? He da Kyu! Terry da Kyu! Adorable, expressive work and does some fantastic fantasy/sci fi type stuff along with the bab art. :3 One of the first people I watched, and one of the first to watch me. Awesome guy too. :P
erin-cloverfox I love love love Erin's art. Plus, he's Irish! woo!!! Does incredible traditional sketches as well as the digital work. Instantly recognizable style, and ye gotta love the shamrock on the cheek. (no, it does NOT come off...)
Eyanicarea Unique style that is fun to look at and sets this kitty apart. :)
Of course, there's the worst kept secret on the internet that
explorerponce is
kammypup so I'm gonna wait til the K's to talk about her. XD
ethan86Doesn't do art of his own, but he's a really neat guy and gets some really cool art of him and his wife. Worth watching to see that as well as to get leads into other great artists.
Well, that does it for the E's! Sláinte!

Posted 11 years agoUm... not many in the D's.... but here's a few active artists that are worth a watch that start with D. (Keep in mind I'm only listing people who do their own art and are currently active.)
DarkGlider Does some really cute comic work and has a pretty cool style that's fun to look at.
Diapered-buns Lexie! I love her work, she has a beautiful style and often puts up some really interesting YCH pics. Does great chibis too if you like those, but that's not all she does, oh no. :P
dray-and-erika The twin dracoons. :P I hope they draw more, cause they're quite good. Erika says she's out of practice, but they're some natural talent there and I want to see more of it.
draugr Great writer. Got a pretty darn good story going on thats worth a read.
Thats about it for the D's... Lots of cool people starting with D, but not all that many active artists, at least not in my own watch list.
