Posted 12 months agoA show named "Gargoyles" premiered on Disney Afternoon. One that was unlike any other animated show at the time. Great art, and storytelling. One where the end of each episode was not the status quo, or a reset. The characters learned, grew, and aged. And had quite a bit of Shakespearean influence.
The first show where I felt a certain connection, and could empathize with the characters. Having been a military brat, it had an impact on my life at the time I needed it the most. And helped connect me to a fandom that helped break me out of my shell.
There had been a convention for the show called "The Gathering of The Gargoyles" that ran from 1997 to 2009. I missed the first 3, but went to other 10 of them. Met many folks that I consider to be friends to this day. And is also where my handle "BrooklynX" comes from. Couldn't think of a good one, and decided to tack a X on the end of Brooklyn for something that was supposed to be temporary at best. But here I am, 24 years later, still using it.
And if you were a fan of the show, it is still be continued in comic form by Dynamite Comics. They did a 12 issue arc called "Here in Manhattan," and 6 issue arc "Dark Ages," which was a prequel of sorts. Issue 4 of the current arc "Quest" comes out November 6th, and the show creator is the one writing the stories. And many more issues are planned...
And along those lines, yes, I am still open for questions for my characters Chaos, and Gadget. Or Eagle, Titmouse, Falcon, Woodpecker...

Ask my characters a question, or three.
Posted a year agoLet's do a "Ask my gargoyle characters anything" post.
Have some fun.
Have some fun.
An update?
Posted a year agoGuess I should post an update.
So I've done another dump of new scans of older Chaos, and Gadget art. I still have a few more pieces I need to scan, and clean up for posting. But I need to stop being lazy.
The latest batch was brought about after attending Convergence 2024 for the 30th anniversary of Gargoyles. Yeah, hard to believe that came out 30 years ago. It makes me feel old; I was all of 16 in 1994. Got to meet some of the old fans I knew from the Gathering of The Gargoyles that I hadn't seen in 15+ years. Plus got to see newer fans as well. It was a fun, but bittersweet con.
Got a few pieces of art while there, and it also kicked my writing muse back into gear. I'm working on two different chapters at the moment. At the same time, it also made me realize things about my characters that I should have realized years ago. I'm going to revisit some of my old pieces, and go do some minor cleaning up. Some ideas will be tweaked slightly to fit their timeline/ relationship better, and the overall flow. Other bits will be dumped since they just don't fit the characters at all. A couple might get stripped down to the basic idea, and rebuilt from the ground up.
Speaking of art, there are a few commissions out there that will be part of the next small batch of art uploads. One of the things I'm hoping to do is more ideas after Chaos goes from being human to gargoyle. Such as him crashing while learning how to land. The instincts to glide in a more or less straight line is there. The practical experience needed to turn, much land is not there (a case of limitations of the spell behind his change). One of many things he has to learn to deal with... including heightened senses.

Writing, writing...
Posted 2 years agoAfter years of being silent, my writing muse has finally woken back up. I think a large part of that is due to the continuation of "Gargoyles" in comic book by Dynamite Comics, with Greg Weisman writing, and continuing his story.
Made a little more progress on the next Chaos chapter I'm trying to work on.
I'm starting to think this is where some of the clan figures out his change from human to gargoyle was due to a magical spell. A spell he didn't know about, and wasn't prepared for. Of course, a few of this clan mates are trying to nudge me in that direction. They were bound to figure this out at some point, but they are getting rather persistent. Plus Gadget discovers this when trying to pull Chaos back from the brink. And she becomes furious at this knowledge. Not him, but whomever cast the spell...
Got to love it when your characters take your plans, and turn things upside when you least expect it.
More so when watching the episode "The Mirror."
As they glided over the fields, Chaos stared at Gadget for several long seconds. "I never realized how beautiful you are."
"What, did you think I was ugly or something?" she asked with a slight smile.
"Well, eh, uhh.... downdraft!"
"Downdraft my rear!" Gadget shouted while shaking a fist at him as he dove away from her. "Get back here and answer that question you jerk!"

Update of sorts
Posted 6 years agoJust did a small dump of the art I picked up at AnthroCon 2019. Most likely the last of the art I'll be posting, or getting for a while. In all likely hood, AC is probably going to be about the only time I try to get art any more. Yeah, there was a stream where I had gotten art now and then, but without going into reasons, I dropped attending it/ commissioning that artist.
I know I haven't drawn in a while, but that is largely do to my job. I have been working at an Amazon warehouse (not an fulfillment center where one picks items for customers, but handles more of the dispatching side of things) since late last year. Typically I'm Sunday through Thursday, mid-afternoon until mid-evening, and by the time Friday rolls around, I'm brain drained, and don't want to do anything. There are also times when I pick up an extra shifts on Fridays which cuts into free time. Hopefully one day I can get back into the swing of things.
As to the model railroad, yeah, I need to get off my butt and work on that. Been way too lazy. Might take some photos when I start making some actual progress.

Color marker work
Posted 7 years agoGot around to digging out my Copics that I haven't touched in a while. Did some head shots, and even colored a full body piece over the weekend. Feeling fairly confident with what I did.
Having said that, I'm going to do a little more experimenting with them this week. And probably late this week, or next week, I will open up for doing color work. Full body will most likely be $40 for a single character. Not sure if anybody might be interested. If so, let me know.

Open for some commission stuff
Posted 7 years agoYeah, I am open for commissions. Mostly head shots, or expression sheets at the moment as I get my art back on track.
Single traditional head shot for $5 similar to these: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/28483257/
Or an expression for $30 similar to this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/28483232/
If anybody is interested, feel free to let me know.

Model railroad stuff
Posted 7 years agoYeah, it is a hobby I'm getting back into thanks to
flinters after having not fiddled around with it in a little over 20 years.
For those curious, I'm into N scale since that's what I spent part of my childhood, and teenage years playing with. Most of my setups were something I could cobble together in a short time, and tear apart later that day. Never had the space to set up an actual layout. Hopefully that will change in the coming months.
I have some space to play with, but not a lot for a small switching layout. An area of about 54" wide by 18" deep (at most). And of course with Flinters being Flinters, he pointed out I can probably do another shelf above it for maybe a small interchange yard. It can be the same width, but not as deep. And he's figured out a way to build a vertical staging elevator that would allow me to move a consist from one lever to another without using a helix.
And hopefully in the future, when I have my own house, I can go for a bigger layout, but that is years down the road.
As to what railroad, and era, I'm going for Southern Pacific during the late 1970s; 1977 to 1980. Maybe 1976 to 1981 to give me a little more leeway on motive power. Though I'll have some Western Pacific mixed in too. The reasoning behind that is that I spent a number of years living in the Sacramento, CA area, which was a big rail town. During the era I'm going for, they had Southern Pacific, Western Pacific, Sacramento Northern, and Central California Traction Company operating in the area.
At this stage, I'm building up rolling stock, and turnouts. Need to get some rail joiners, terminal rail joiners, a DCC decoder controller thing, and other items. Will try to post photos of any progress. Woo.

I should post an update
Posted 7 years agoYes, I am alive and kicking. Woo. Made up the move up to Washington back before Thanksgiving last November. Currently living at
flinters place while hunting down a job.
But in the midst of some free time, I am helping Flinters reach out to old commissioners. Or newer ones with piles. So if you follow him, and I, and have art from a few years ago or so, please feel free to reach out to us so me can hopefully mail you your art!

Question for you watchers...
Posted 9 years agoEarlier this year, I became an editor for Jarlidium Press. A couple of the titles I help work on is XU, Squeak, and NAF.
Xfrmations Unlimited is an anthology of transformation-themed (species and/or gender) prose, comics, and the occasional pinup as filler. The rating can be anything from G to XXX.
Squeak! is an anthology of naughty comics and the occasional pinup as filler. F/F, M/F, herms, etc. are all welcome. Rating can be anything from PG/R, risque to the explicit; comics, or single page pinups.
What I am looking for is suggestions from you folks is artists or writers who you think might be a good fit for either one of these titles. Feel free to post links to 'em below. Thanks!

RMFC
Posted 9 years agoI will be flying out tomorrow morning to RMFC in Denver. Will be doing the minion thing for
flinters and
jarlidium Stop by and say hello if you are at the con.
Since it looks like I will sitting at the airport for a bit longer than anticipated before my flight out, I am willing to do an offline commission or two to kill time. So if you have an idea, feel free to note me ($5 for a headshot, $10 for waist up, or $20 for full body).

AnthroCon
Posted 9 years agoYes, I will be at AnthroCon this year. Once again, I will playing table assistant/ minion for
flinters, and
jarlidium. We will be over at tables K12/13/14. Stop by, and say hello. And bring mint. Lots, and lots of mint.
Most of time will be spent in the dealers room helping sell badges and the such. When not in there, hanging out with them,
shawnthegirl, and
squic after hours. Probably doing that art thing.
And yes, there is the chance I might be doing a few commissions during the con. A scary thought.

HomeCon Stream schedule
Posted 10 years agoYes, I will be streaming during HomeCon, which is happening over on https://www.tigerdile.com/ this weekend.
Friday: 7 PM - Midnight PT
Saturday: 12 PM - 8 PM PT
Sunday 2 PM - 9 PM PT
What will I be offering? Largely traditional art using blue, purple, or even red pencil. Maybe even graphite. And might even take a small stab at doing some stuff with Copic Markers, depending on the color of the character since I have a limited number of them at the moment. But any money raised this weekend will help me acquire more.
Check it out at: https://www.tigerdile.com/stream/brooklynx/
And you will also find me talking with folks like
redpandacase,
flinters,
inkpawz, and
pmoss who will also be streaming there as well. Stop by, and check them out as well!

I will be playing table minion for

jarlidium at tables K12 & K13. So if you happen to be coming to the con, stop by and say hello. And bring Flinter and I mint. Oh, yes, lots of mint. And buy lots of things.
I know more than a few of you have commissioned me for head shot commissions. Or are wanting to get one from me at some point. Since I'm going to have time to kill at a couple airports, I will open for 5 head shot slots to be drawn offline. $5 each. If interested, just let me know. Also depending on how busy I am selling things at the con, I might even take a few there too.
And if you are going to AC, I hope to see you there!

Post BLFC
Posted 10 years agoHad a fun time at the con over the weekend. Got some art drawn, tried to pull some shenanigans, sold some stuff for
flinters
I do have to say they had a fun time with the theme at the con. And managed to keep it rolling it the entire time.
The not so fun part was trying to leave and having my car not start for a while. Finally got it started, got it back into town, and dropped off at my usual mechanic. Looks like the starter was on the fritz, and most likely the alternator as well. So those are getting swapped out. There goes about $300. Bah!

I will be helping sell badges, and his books as well. And who knows, you might even see me doodling depending on how busy we are. If you are going, swing by the table and say hello to us.
And bring mint.

2015 Con Plans
Posted 11 years agoAh, yes, 2015. Aiming for going to a few different cons this year.
First up will be FC down in San Jose in a week and a half. You can find me playing table minion for
flinters and
jarlidium. And I might even up taking a commission or two, since Flinters has been pushing and encouraging to draw for a while.
So if you are there, stop by and say hello. And bring us mint. And Mt. Dew. Or water.
After that, the next one I'm going to hit up is BLFC in Reno around mid-May.
In July, headed out to AnthroCon. Woo!
Sadly, RainFurrest is not happening for this year. Since it looks the two folks I tend to minion for either got decline a table, or got put on the wait list. So it isn't really practical for me to go.
I might go to a different con. Or there is the chance I might be in the area that same weekend doing HomeCon with Flinters. Keep in mind that is not set in stone yet. Now if I do end up doing this, there is a good chance I *might* even end taking commissions myself. But time will tell.
