Asterion Blazing is taking FBA Draft Candidate commissions!
General | Posted 12 years agoHello, FBA Fans!
Wow, where have I been, huh? I'll tell you where-- enjoying my FBA-free vacation!! Woo!!!!
...though I'll admit I am starting to miss it...
All right, down to business. I'll be posting a notice soon restarting things for the 2013-2014 season, including calling our first official meeting to discuss new GMs, the draft, etc. etc. etc..... but that's later. For now, I have very special news.
FBA artist
asterionblazing is accepting FBA Draft Candidate commissions!
As you all know, A-Blast has been A-Blasting the FBA with phenomenal art throughout the playoffs. And she is one of the very best in bringing our league's characters to life. This is a great chance to help promote your player. So please do consider commissioning her to draw your characters.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4972835/
And just as a nudge in the ribs to everyone-- yes, we have a Top 24, and yes there will be a numbered list. But remember, regardless of the list order, the final call on which players get picked comes down to the lucky 24 who will be managing teams and making those decisions. And very often, that decision is based much more on the quality of a character's design over any particular stats or numbers. A picture can be just the ticket to getting a GM's attention and having your character get picked up on draft night.
So go get those commissions!
Talk to you all again soon!

Rocky Mountain Fur Con
General | Posted 12 years agoIn just under 14 hours, I'll be on a plane to Denver to attend Rocky Mountain Fur Con! I hope I can meet as many of you there as possible! :)
The con staff was very generous to me this year. At most cons, it can be a struggle for me to get a 2-hour slot for my Voice Acting Workshop panel. At RMFC, I've been given SIX hours in two 3-hour panels!!!
Because of the con's generosity, I'm trying out some new things. First, I've made some upgrades to my recording equipment, both technical and practical. New microphones, for one, but also simple things like a headphone hook, and a copy clip so that you no longer have to hold the paper while you perform. Should make things easier for the talent!
The first panel will be Voice Acting Workshop held on Friday, August 2nd at 4pm in The Flamingo (Crystal 3). This will be my standard workshop, with everyone getting a chance to go up to the mics and lots of recordings to be featured!
The second panel will be Advanced Voice Acting held on Sunday, August 4th also at 4pm. In this new workshop, we'll go over the same scripts and use a similar format, but take extra time with more takes and work harder on improving performances. Not everyone may be able to make it up to the mics, but hopefully everyone will learn more about the challenges of voice acting and how to make a performance sound more natural.
I'll be using the same scripts for both panels, and this time, you can read it ahead of time!
http://furrybasketball.com/VAW/RMFC.....p_RMFC2013.pdf
Also, I know it's a little bit crummy, but this is the first time I'll be asking performers to fill out a Talent Release Form. I'll have copies at the panel, but for those who want to come prepared, you can download and fill out the form here:

Hope to see many of you there! :)

Hope you all can make it!
Also, announced at the CSL episode today was the Top 24 Draft picks for 2013!
To be clear with everyone, this is the FBA's chosen list of players to participate in the brand new 2013 FBA Draft Candidate Challenge. This is a brand new thing we're going to try out this year.
In the past, I've made an ordered Top 24 list on my own, just basing my decisions on personal choices. This year, I've chosen an unranked Top 24 list with the intention that early next month, I'll program these characters into NBA 2K13 using only default stats and host a special match where all players will get equal floor time. We'll see how the characters perform and base the Top 24 ordering on their performance.
Because of this special new system for ordering the Top 24, I made sure to select 10 guards, 10 forwards and 4 centers. In order to do this, I did have to ignore some requests to not consider a player for Top 24. Also, as in years past, I made sure each character came from a unique contributor. (No one gets 2 characters in the Top 24.)
I've already had the question asked of me, an NO THESE ARE NOT THE ONLY PLAYERS THAT WILL BE DRAFTED.
During the FBA Draft, 48 players are picked up, not 24. This is only HALF of the players that will be picked. An entire 24 more will be picked, and those will come from the rest of the FBA pool, which includes all of the players that were in the pool before. So even if your character was not picked for this Top 24 list, you still have 24 more chances to have your character enter the FBA.
It is up to YOU to advertise your players to potential general managers. The FBA will no longer endorse any more players beyond these Top 24. All other draft picks are entirely at the discretion of the chosen general managers who will be picked shortly after the 2013 FBA Draft Candidate Challenge.

This was the last game ever to be played in Sturgis Stadium, and the fans all were thrilled at the possibility that it could end not just in a victory but in a Championship. With the pieces all in place, the Bikers looked poised to retire their original venue in style, the place in which so many rings had been won.
But the Typhoons had other plans.
With their backs against the wall, the 'Phoons fought early and fought hard. Opening up a 7-0 lead to start the game, Tallahassee made it clear they were not going to lie down. After a so-so performance in the last two games, Charles Yotechuk (Coyote, PF) found his groove when they needed him most, hitting his signature turnaround fadeaways and punishing the Bikers with bucket after bucket. Most importantly, though, the Typhoons bench owned the first half, scoring nearly as many points as the starters, and keeping all of the momentum in their favor. The biggest sign of that happened in the last moments of the first half when the Bikers, desperate to cut the deficit to single digits before the break, got a quick transition pass to Blythe Nacht (Red Fox [silver phase], G) who sank a clutch 3-ball at the shoulder to trim the deficit to 9. And before the Dakota fans had even stopped cheering, the Typhoons answered back with a light speed transition, Jake Velox (Swift Fox, SG) slinging the ball the full length of the court to a racing Ray Rodin (Rat, G/F) at the opposite baseline, who collected and dunked in response. That forced the Bikers to eat an 11 point deficit by the half.
The Bikers hit back early in the third with a series of rim-rattling dunks, both Buck Hopper (Rabbit, PG) and Ryan Malone (Kangaroo, SG) elevating and throwing down some of the nastiest crushers seen in the series. But while the dunks pumped up the crowd, they exhausted the starters, which was seen later in the frame. The Bikers managed to get within 1 in the middle of the third, but the Typhoons fired back with another streak, using their well-rested Dawg Pack to drill home buckets, particularly from Klaus Korber (Doberman, PG) who couldn't seem to miss a single contested, under pressure J. And nothing showed B-Hop's exhaustion more than when former teammate Chuck-Yo-Chuk delivered a monster dunk right on the bunny, knocking him down and out of bounds, sliding across the floor and into the photographers. That was answered back by some of B-Hop's biggest dunks of the night, but the Typhoons pulled away, regaining the double-digit lead.
The final Bikers run came in the last minutes of play when a quick run of solid shots followed by surprisingly weak shooting from the 'Phoons put Dakota within 5. But with the clock in the last 30 seconds of play, the Bikers were forced to go to intentional fouls, and the Typhoons didn't miss a beat. In the last possession, the Bikers saw the writing on the wall and let the 'Phoons dribble out the rock, accepting the 7 point loss and the forced Game 6 in Tallahassee.
In the post-game interviews, a reporter pointed out how in tonight's game, the 'Phoons ended a potential poetic victory for the Bikers, just like they had in the famous match when they stole a potential 14-0 start from the Huntsville Mayors by beating Korber's father's team. (Rolf Korber was head coach of the club at the time.) 2K answered in his usual icy way, "I've never liked poetry."
And that's a swish.

Buck Hopper (Rabbit, PG) and Ryan Malone (Kangaroo, SG) had made an agreement before the game to have the lower scoring guard wear a colorful scarf to the post-game interview that B-Hop had purchased from the Tallahassee airport, but they agreed not to appear in the scarf after news of Coach Tazel Tawner being seriously injured.
Both athletes expressed their condolences to the Typhoons and wished Miss Tawner a speedy recovery.

A pre-game challenge between Dylan Redfield (Red Deer, SF) and Buck Hopper (Rabbit, PG) resulted in Redfield appearing at the post-game conference wearing a pair of ridiculous 80's style sunglasses. He was probably thankful that his team had lost, limiting the number of questions he answered.
Ryan Malone (Kangaroo, SG) was absolutely furious at the post-game meeting, drumming his fingers on his bicep and scowling at the reporters as he answered questions. He spoke of how poorly his teammates were shooting and suggested that Hopper should stop thinking about crazy bets and focus on winning games.
Usually Klaus Korber (Doberman, PG), Jake Velox (Swift Fox, SG) and Charles Yotechuk (Coyote, PF) appear in the press room together representing the Dawg Pack, but in a bold twist, Chuck-Yo-Chuk gave up his seat for Adrian McCormick (Badger, SF), who wore a pair of costume-style dog ears during the event. He then cooly drew no attention to it, even telling a reporter who asked that he had "no idea what he was talking about." Korber and Velox supported this attitude, refusing to acknowledge A-Mac not being a canine.
And that's a swish.

Buck Hopper (Rabbit, PG) and Ryan Malone (Kangaroo, SG) made an agreement before tonight's game. Whoever scored fewer points would be forced to wear horn-rimmed glasses at the post-game conference, or, as Malone called them, "birth control glasses". Despite the bet, B-Hop fed Malone 3 alley-oop passes, though he insisted after the game that at least one of them was a 3-point attempt. Hopper easily won the contest, reaching 39 points and outscoring everyone else during the match, but it was Malone who won the game with a clutch bucket for the elbow, sinking the go-ahead winning shot with only 0.4 seconds left on the clock.
Like a trooper, Malone arrived at the press table wearing the thick, black-rimmed glasses, but then Hopper arrived wearing an identical pair. He explained that while he might have gotten more points than the kangaroo, Malone got the biggest bucket of the game.
And that's a swish.

Hello, FBA Fans!
And with the Typhoons victory tonight, we have our matchup for the 2013 FBA Finals!
DAKOTA BIKERS vs. TALLAHASSEE TYPHOONS
The Typhoons will have home field advantage for having had the better regular season record. And here is the schedule for the 2013 FBA Finals series.
Sunday, July 21st - GAME 1 (DAK @ TAL) @ ~4pm Pacific
Tuesday, July 23rd - GAME 2 (DAK @ TAL) @ 7pm Pacific
Thursday, July 25th - GAME 3 (TAL @ DAK) @ 7pm Pacific
Saturday, July 27th - GAME 4 (TAL @ DAK) @ 12 noon Pacific
Sunday, July 28th - GAME 5 (TAL @ DAK if necessary) @ 4pm Pacific
Monday, July 29th - GAME 6 (DAK @ TAL if necessary) @ 7pm Pacific
Tuesday, July 30th - GAME 7 (DAK @ TAL if necessary) @ 7pm Pacific
I know this schedule is a little strange, but it's planned this way. I want to have the series over before I fly to Denver for Rocky Mountain Fur Con on August 1st, and next week work will be very busy, so I'm trying to minimize the number of games I have during the week!
Hopefully this schedule will work for everyone, though. Let me know if there are any problems! The current plan is to have ALL of these games featured on FBA Courtside: LIVE, so… should be one heck of a ride!!!
Because I want to feature all of these episode on the show, I would like for any interested color commentators to volunteer now to cover these episodes! If there is a game you'd like to be the color commentator for, please speak up and I'll put you on the schedule!
As for why I'm waiting until Sunday to get this started, I need time to do a full audit of the Bikers and the Typhoons to hopefully ensure we have as exciting a series as possible. I'll be going over both teams carefully to make sure they're well-programmed into NBA 2K13.
Aaaaand… Sunday's game will be scheduled for immediately after a much needed GENERAL MEETING!

The Pride fought hard for 3 quarters, managing to stay ahead of the Typhoons for nearly every step of the game-- until Klaus Korber (Doberman, PG) drilled home a phenomenal clutch 3-ball from the left shoulder, taking the lead with only 5.4 seconds left in the game and throwing a sharp point to Valencia Zeraus (Lioness, PG), who was not able to get in front of the dog in time to defend the shot. Hello, FBA Fans!
SUPER sorry about missing tonight's episode of CSL. :( No serious issue! Just got called into a late meeting at work, and of COURSE it ran long. I was hoping I could get the game started at 8pm, but sadly, I didn't make it home until 9.
Tomorrow I have a family engagement in the evening, so I won't be able to host CSL then either, so our next episode will be scheduled for this coming Thursday!

With the game scheduled to be featured on FBA Courtside: LIVE!, fans lifted homemade signs welcoming T. Matt Latrans (Coyote) and Patrick Suarez (Jackal) to Sturgis Stadium, but when a cancelled flight prevented T. Matt from making the trip to Rapid City, those fans sadly lowered their signs. Still, they got a heck of a game.
With Rocky Caracal (Lynx, SG) leading the charge, the Edmonton Totems had a simple game plan. Hit 'em from the woods. Chainlink was dazzling, connecting on 5 of 10 from outside, and while Sanford Teeson (Raccoon, PG) failed to connect on either of his 2 attempts from downtown, he launched enough dimes to buy a churro from the vendors, double-doubling on the night with 13 assists. That led to an early lead for the visitors, who went up 26-20 by the end of the first.
But then the Bikers cleaned up. Buck Hopper (Rabbit, PG) had as much luck as Teeson from the woods, but also double-double with 10 assists on the night, racking up 19 points which remarkably feels like he was holding back in this game. Ryan Malone (Kangaroo, SG), on the other hand, did not as the boomer did nothing short of going Matrix with 16 of 19 buckets going down and crushing dunk after crushing dunk being thrown by his golden paws. With Jack Wayans (Black Labrador, PF) also dominating the kennel basement, the Bikers didn't care about only hitting 1 of 8 attempts from outside [courtesy of Blythe Nacht (Red Fox [silver phase], G)]. A punishing second quarter was followed by two more where the home team led, ending on a crushing 111 points to top Edmonton's 97, giving Dakota a 2-0 lead in the series as they prepare to fly to Alberta.
Ryan Malone won player of the game honors with 34 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocks.
And that's a swish.

Hello, FBA Fans!
Thank you everyone who attended today's episode of CSL! We had a small crowd today-- since I know many of you are Anthrocon-- but it was a fantastic game with a thrilling finish!
A special thanks to
kitana for volunteering to be my cohost for this one! It's a great episode and was a perfect way to get back into the swing of all things FBA!
And now that we're back…
Tomorrow I'll give the results for the first game in Round 3 of the Playoffs, using the following schedule:
Saturday, July 6th
Eastern Conference Championship Game 1: NWK @ TAL
Sunday, July 7th
Western Conference Championship Game 1: EDM @ DAK
.
.
.
And from now on… ALL GAME RESULTS WILL BE MADE IN NBA 2K13!
That's right, I am RETIRING the old engine permanently as of today. I will be investigating new engines for the 2012-2013 season, but from now on, Jump Shot Pro Basketball (http://shotsports.com) will not longer be used to determine the results of FBA matches. The remainder of the season will be done on NBA 2K13.
Now, there has been talk of running episodes of CSL for the coming matches. I originally had a goal of featuring every game in the conference championship and the 2013 FBA Finals on CSL, but since so many of you are at Anthrocon right now, I'm going to try something different this weekend.
Tomorrow and Sunday's game will be featured LIVE ON VIDEO over Livestream. Yes, this will be your chance to watch the game unfold the way co-hosts on CSL do, with animated characters moving. This is going to be an experiment-- at the moment, I don't plan to make a habit of this-- but I do want to judge reactions. I will be there to deliver commentary on the match, but not giving a descriptive play-by-play. We'll see how it goes!

Hello, FBA Fans!
WOO! Alright, finally starting to rev up the machine again!
As you can see, I've backtracked the date a bit. To try to keep things consistent within the FBA Universe, we're going to play this out as if the last games of Round 2 were held on June 28th and June 29th… and then a week break took place so that the first game of Round 3 is held on July 6th. Hopefully that will get things back in order!
And as you can see with tonight's victories, it turns out there will be only one game tomorrow on FBA Courtside: LIVE! So let's make it a good one!!

Where's the commish??
General | Posted 12 years agoHi there, FBA Fans!
I bet a lot of you are asking that! Well... the ones of you who aren't busy traveling to Anthrocon... :)
I'm still here! Sorry for the silence. The West has been hit by a heck of a heat wave, and it's been messing up my sleep schedule something royally. On top of that, a visit to see my family turned much longer than expected and just generally shook my cage. I had planned on getting things back together sooner, but-- then I realized Anthrocon was just about to start, and given my policy of making sure I at LEAST get my Voice Acting Workshop recordings released before the following year's convention... I had to spend the day making sure Anthrocon 2012 got finished up!
And I succeeded! And actually, learned quite a few new techniques. My new job has taught me some new tricks to recording and dialogue editing, and it's streamlined the process quite a bit. If anyone out there is planning on attending my Voice Acting Workshop panel at Rocky Mountain Fur Con, expect some changes to the program!
Anyway, I had hoped to have some time tonight to do a little FBA catching up, but it's waaay too late and I have to get to bed. So, here's the current plan...
Tomorrow, I will be releasing the results for Game 6 of SFW @ EDM and TAL @ BLV. On Friday, July 5th-- which I conveniently have off from work-- I will host an episode of FBA Courtside: LIVE! for every Game 7 left in the 2nd round.
We will then immediately proceed to Round 3 on Saturday, July 6th.
Sorry for the shakeup in the schedule, but hopefully this will get everything back on track! Thank you all for your patience!

Playoffs Decision!
General | Posted 12 years agoHey there, FBA Fans!
Thank you all for all the input! I just got home, and unfortunately, I have to get straight to bed. I've got a radio shift in the morning, so I'm getting up super early. But given the input, I've decided to roll up tonight's games using the normal engine as scheduled.
Unfortunately, I don't have the time, so you all will have to wait for the results. :( And given the family obligations tomorrow, it IS possible I won't be able to have any results until Sunday.
Sorry about the delay everyone! On Sunday, at the very least, we'll have the DAK @ WPG game on CSL, and as for the other matches, if they end up needing a Game 7, we'll cover them as well.
Thanks again!

FBA Courtside: LIVE! CANCELED tonight, but... CSL Madness??
General | Posted 12 years agoHello, FBA Fans!
So, something DID come up that will interfere with FBA Courtside: LIVE! tonight, I'm afraid. Got an event I need to attend tonight, so I won't be back in my studio in time to hold the episode. So this means I'll have to roll Game 6 for the BLV/TAL and the SFW/EDM series using the normal system.......
.....UNLESS......
....you all would be willing to join me for CSL MADNESS SUNDAY?!
Last night assured there would be a Game 7 in the WPG/DAK series, which I think NEEDS to have an episode of CSL. However, I already have a family obligation tomorrow that will keep me from hosting that episode that day. My plan was to shift that game to Sunday. So that leaves me a with a couple options...
1) Roll up tonight's games using the normal engine and shift the schedule by a day so that the DAK @ WPG game is Sunday and any Game 7s left over are held on Monday.
2) Roll up tonight's games using the normal engine and shift only Saturday's game to Sunday so that up to 3 games happen on Sunday (depending on who wins tonight).
3) Automatically decide on tonight's games so that we're assured all 3 series end in a Game 7 and hold ALL THREE GAME 7s ON SUNDAY ON CSL!!!!!
It's insanity. And I may not be able to speak at all for the rest of the week. But if you all are willing to go down this experimental road, I am, too. Let me know if you would be interested in a Triple-Header CSL Extravaganza on Sunday!!!

Hello, FBA Fans!
Thank you everyone who attended tonight's game! Very, very exciting matchup, and it seems… we need a Game 7! The Bikers have managed to tie up the series to 3 a piece!
That game will HAVE to be featured on CSL-- and because of a family obligation, I probably won't be available on Saturday night for the properly scheduled episode. Therefore…!
Expect Game 7, DAK @ WPG to be this SUNDAY… as well as any other Game 7s we have left! It could be a Sunday of potentially 3!!! CSL episodes, depending on how the rest of the games go!!
First, for tomorrow, I am going to try to hold an episode of CSL. It MAY have to be cancelled due to 2 things… I've got a radio shift Saturday morning, so I have to get up super early, aaaaand, it's supposed to be very very hot tomorrow, and since my studio doesn't have AC, if it's just way too uncomfortable, I'll be forced to cancel.
Still! I'm going to try. And instead of just deciding which matchup we're going to watch, I'm going to leave it up to whoever happens to be there at 7! So, which match? TBA!

Hello, FBA Fans!
*FLOP*
I am sooooo exhausted…….
Well, only a handful of folks showed up for FBA Courtside: LIVE! this evening, so few that I decided it would be better for me to cancel the event and use the time on something else. Liiiike…
…posting the candidates for the 2013 FBA Draft!
Now before you all start digging into this, I want to let you all know I have NOT gone through this with the kind of fine-toothed comb I usually do before releasing this list. For one thing, I am nowhere near completing T. Matt's Top 24 list, and this is nowhere close to where I want it to be for the 2013 FBA Draft Report. This list is very raw and there are certainly problems with some of the submissions-- I made dozens of corrections just posting these, and even threw out a few more that had FBA submission violations. Still, I want to give everyone a chance to look over this list, read who's going to be at the party, and maybe even give me some advice on these guys!
You can find the list all posted on WikiFBA here:
http://furrybasketball.com/wiki/ind.....aft_Candidates
Also, we're now up to 29 votes for the 2013 FBA End of Season Awards! Please keep them coming!

Finally, we may have missed the episode tonight, but I can't blame anyone-- honestly EDM/SFW was not going to be THAT thrilling with the game not an elimination match. But tomorrow, on the other hand--
…will the Voyageurs button it up and make a headlong drive into the Western Conference Finals? Or will the Dakota Bikers defend their home turf and force the Voyageurs against the wall for a final Game 7??
FIND OUT TOMORROW!
