*dusts off the cobwebs*
Posted 5 years agoOh, hey. I'm still alive. Just making a new journal to bump the old one off my profile.
Hope everyone's staying safe out there!
Hope everyone's staying safe out there!
Well, that sure was an ordeal...
Posted 11 years agoI've wanted to go back through my favorites gallery for the longest time and watch the artists I hadn't yet followed. The list also needed some cleaning up, due to all the missing uploads from artists nuking their galleries, so I decided to do some multitasking and take care of both things at once.
It took me a long time, but I finally finished. Cleared out at least fifty missing images and added around 850 new artists to my watch list. (I then saw new missing uploads in my faves right after the fact.)

Bump Journal: Frivolous Trivialities
Posted 13 years agoTautology aside, my journals needed some boosting. :} I don't enjoy seeing older journals up on my profile page. It's not in fashion, you seeeee~

I cannot, for the life of me, think of a witty introduction to this journal, so let's just get down to brass tacks!
I have officially moved to a new house. Just, like, a town over. >..> Shush. But now I'll be able to get back to being amazing and commissioning peeps 'cause I can't draw to save my life.
I am also trying to get back into writing. I keep saying I'll go back to unfinished works, but I never do. XD
By the way, all three of those lines started with an I. How peculiar. .~

Musings of a Chimera: Mundane Ref Sheets
Posted 13 years agoLately I've been wondering something...why do some peeps commission or draw reference/character sheets for commonly colored species?
I've seen so many foxes, tigers, wolves, lions, etc. that have nothing distinguishable from their archetypes, as it were. If your sona or character is a "buff white tiger", why do you need an expensive ref sheet showing him naked? It makes the money nothing but a waste, in my eyes. At the very least have the illustration show him with his trademark outfit or something specific to that character.
I understand not everyone is crazy enough to be a clusterfu-...super hybrid, like me, but if you're gonna be a plain red fox or a brown wolf, at least make up a unique outfit or accessory to go along with it in pictures.
And so, that's it for my random thought pool of the month.
Cadet Caid out~

Right-o, serious journal of seriousness.
Posted 13 years agoY'all ever felt attracted to someone you really shouldn't? Not 'cause they don't like you or due to being taken, but because their views, attitude, and lifestyle clash with your own morality.
Makes one very confused, I found out. Had to block the person on messenger recently. I don't usually just block people over minuscule matters, so it's a rather extreme measure for me. (And I did so without alerting the person, too. >..>)
Oddly enough, I'm not mad or even rustled. I know it's simply the way that person does things, and my ways are very different. So...there's nothing to be angry about. In fact, I'd say I feel more hurt than anything. Not much, since we weren't mates or the like, but it still feels strange.

Furry Taxonomy
Posted 13 years agoI said in a previous journal that the fandom needs a concrete classification system so we don't have random nonsensical names like "scalie" and "furry". So, while working on a taxonomy chart for my stories' universe, I came up with this.
Sentient
Anthromorph:
Humanoid – Defined by clear human anatomy. They possess plantigrade feet, human style hands, and human genitalia. Some have more human facial features and smaller muzzles/beaks.
Animalistic – Relatively humanoid, though they express more animal characteristics like digitigrade feet, more paw-like hands, and animal genitalia. Some retain more animal facial traits such as slit pupils and longer muzzles/beaks.
Zoomorph: Composed of individuals with no physical human characteristics, they are morphologically identical to their insentient counterparts. Many may wear custom clothing or accessories in order for others to distinguish them from their wild cousins.
Monster: Differentiated by their sometimes bizarre body plans and behavior, monsters encompass a large variety of species, hybrids, and sentient beings. Identified by strange anatomy, large bodies, or instinctual thought process.
Toon: Having the appearance of traditional cartoon characters, toons are more unorthodox anthropomorphic animals. They are commonly defined by the strange physical laws their bodies uniquely possess and their overall kind and loving nature.
Synthetic: A large group formed of many non-organic beings. Ranging from mechanical creatures, rubber skinned individuals, and anthropomorphic inanimate objects, synthetics are perhaps the most eccentric group of sentients. Often classified by their inorganic qualities.
Entity: Commonly referred to as gods or forces, entities are a type of mystical or otherworldly consciousness which takes the form or possesses the body of another physical being. They're typically identified by their powerful presence, regal appearance, and palpable power.
Insentient
Animal: Known simply as their categorical namesake, insentient organisms are the most primitive form of life. They are guided by instinct and base levels of intelligence. Most are used as food sources for sentients.
Monster: Like their sentient counterparts, they're uncommon and rare species. Many stray far from their path, as some monsters tend to perceive others as hostile and attack when provoked.
Toon: Strange cartoon creatures often driven by the desire for mischief or fun. They possess some intelligence, though their thoughts are mostly simplistic. Their bodies seem to be able to bypass regular laws of physics.
Synthetic: ...Can't really think of anything for this one. XD Help me out?
Keep in mind that this was mostly for my stories, but it does apply to the fandom, I believe.

Posted 13 years agoFurry Lingo Rant~
Posted 13 years agoRight-o. Like the last journal, I'll get right to the point here.
I find most furry terms unnecessary.
Take the biggest two, for example: fursona and furry.
The word “fursona” usually refers to a personal anthropomorphic animal version of oneself. It is derived from the common word “persona”. In this context, the word "persona" is your alter ego, or your true self. It has nothing to do with being human. Subtracting the prefix per- from the root word "sona" and adding the prefix fur- to it is meaningless. Persona is based on the concept of person, or being, so there's no relation to homo sapiens.
Now, when I say I'll talk about the word “furry”, I mean I'll analyze it as it applies to actual anthro characters. I find the word to be obsolete in relation to the fandom, really. While a good deal of furries are indeed, well, furry, there are many who have a persona without fur. This has been countered by the creation of words like “scalie”. But that's not very helpful when the fandom is still governed by “furries”, no? By definition, they should be called anthros. So...why aren't they?
I believe that, as with many things, they aren't called anthros due to tradition. The world has been calling them furries for so long that it simply stuck. However, this brings a bit of a problem aside from the previous. If they're all furries, then how come some are weres? While it may not be as common as reptilian or avian personas, there are quite a bit of weres in the fandom. They might look like a typical werewolf, werecat, or werebear. But some look like any other muscled anthro. It would be a lot easier to differentiate between all the various types of furs by simply adopting the term “anthro”.
If most personas were called anthros, then the weres could be called weres and ferals would remain as they are. Three simple main categories.
Now, if you will, allow me to derail this train for a moment and discuss another lightly related, personal point...
I've seen many furs categorize their personas and drawings as anthros, but they draw them with digitigrade legs and animal genitalia. By definition, an anthro is an animal, concept, or inanimate object which has human characteristics. A were is a human or humanoid gaining animal-like qualities. So I would assume most anthros would have plantigrade feet and human styled genitals.
But back to the main issue at hand.
And speaking of hand...anthros have hands, not paws. I can understand it just being a coined term to make the characters more “furry”, but what anthros have are hands. Ferals have paws.
Furthermore, words like “everyfur”, “furson”, and “yiff” (when pertaining to a sound) make no sense whatsoever. (And don't even get me started on the bastardization of the word “murr”...)
Now, as I have some chips and a soda to tend to and I've lost my train of thought, I'll end this rant here.
FOR NOW *cue dramatic music*

Furry Rant: Lack of Creativity in the Fandom
Posted 14 years agoOkay, let's get down to brass tacks here. It's kinda sad to see such lack of creativity within the fandom. There's so much potential diversity in being a fur, yet people almost always tend to gravitate towards the same old, tired concepts.
My main gripe is the narrow list of species peeps look at when creating their fursonas. I don't think I have to elaborate, considering how many canines and felines there are in the community. Though, I have come across some interesting species with a bit of searching, it's sad how mundane most furs are with their representation of themselves. (Intricate fur patterns don't do much to make you stand out in the long run.)
What's even worse, though, is the repulsing and often times stereotypical names people give their fursonas. Tell me why nine out of ten dragons have to be named Drake, Draco, Drago, or a random name ending in the suffix -ith. Or why lions seem to be stuck with the name Leo or Leon in many stories. It's just sad.
Come on peeps! Where are all the cool ideas? I wanna see more salamander, pterodactyl, chinchilla, manta ray, spider, gazelle, mole, hagfish, and exotic bird anthros. Let's see some more fun hybrids and chimeras; seriously, folf or tigerwolf is a poor excuse for a hybrid. And give me some nice, interesting names to go along with them.
P.S. - For God's sake, don't pick a dragon or a bull just because you're a dom or a tough guy. There are so many other large species you can choose from.

Jeje.

Got tagged... (With Raid, WTF? No love for the arachnids.)
Posted 14 years ago10 facts tag
1. You must post these rules.
2. Each tagged person must post ten things about themselves in their journal.
3. You have to choose and tag 10 people and post their icons in in the same journal.
4. Go to their pages and tell them
5. No tag backs
6. No crap in the tag section about "You are tagged if you read this". You must legitimately have to tag them.
1. I have six names. (First name, three middle names, and a last name.)
2. I can run unusually fast for a fatty. It's weird.
3. I've always wanted to say an epic one-liner at just the right time.
4. When I was six, I was chased around my neighborhood by a huge-ass turkey.
5. I have both insomnia and narcolepsy.
6. My vision is utter crap, thanks to having achromatopsia.
7. I've completely memorized the lyrics of approximately 1,700 songs. (Talk about having no life...)
8. When I have it short, a bit of hair sticks up on the sides of my head and look like devil horns if I don't comb it.
9. I, uh....have a storm fetish. >.<
10. I can be painfully, comically, shy at times. As in as shy as some anime makes characters out to be. D:
And, uh, I don't really have anyone to tag. Well, aside from maybe my adopted grampa,
raptonx. >:3 (He'll hate me for this~)

However, I'll be spending a few days over at my sister's house while she and her family are on vacation. So, I should be online for a couple of days next week.
Just making this a journal since I can't use Skype or any of my usual messengers—on a relative's phone—and apparently some people actually miss me. .~
Also, typing this, I'm once again reminded exactly why I dislike touch screen phones so much. They're such a pain to type on. >.< (Well, type correctly anyway...AND NO WAY I'M USING AUTOCORRECT! That crap is deadly.)
