A new drawing tablet...

As some of you may know, I use a digital device for most all of my drawing.
That is the now potentially venerable (Had it for probably... 6 years or so) Wacom Cintiq 12WX which I'm currently thinking about replacing. Though just what to replace it with is the question...
I've been doing some digging and I had it in my head that I wanted to use a drawing tablet, so I can hold and rotate it in my hands without worrying about wearing out a cord.
My first impression was that I wanted to pick up another Wacom, primarily the ModbileStudio Pro 13 with the i7(6-gen), 8GB of ram, and a 256GB SSD.
A small screen does not bother me, because I like to work in small boxes.
But, some of the problems listed in amazon complaints have me a little worried. The concept of a DOA device with a near if not above 2K price tag seems...bad.
Complaints range from dead pixels, fuzzy screens, crashing, and unacceptably slow performance. While the worst detail screen flickering and then near permanent black screens.
A more in depth review says that it's dim, it's a little slow, but is good for being made of dated bits if you don't mind an atrocious battery life and 40DB fan.
So I started to look at other things on both ends of the price spectrum.
Things like the Microsoft Surface Book 2 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab A.
Personally I have no clue what I should do, and was wondering if anyone here has had a bit of experience with devices of this type and would be willing to lend their opinion on the overall dilemma.

Aside from that I have been dealing with some chaos regarding remodeling and Warframe, but things should be calming down, and I will be returning to drawing soon.

Why I haven't been drawing...
Posted 7 years agoFirst of all friends and games are a significant distraction, along with other things like making birthday presents for the family. Hand stitched items don't really make themselves.
Second of all, it is hard to work up the nerve to really work on something when a potential crash is going to ruin everything. It's been happening for a while now, and I just had several hours of work go down to nothing because of one. There is of course no auto save feature either.
Maybe I asked for it by buying a drawing program without one.
Maybe I asked for it by using out of date hardware. (2012 drawing device)
Maybe I asked for it by turning off my drawing tablet to go take a shower thinking that the drivers wouldn't crash and cause the drawing program to crash as well.
Maybe installing drivers from the product sight wasn't a good idea. Who knew they would crash my mouse drivers and cause the USB ports to turn off?
I should have seen it coming I guess. Maybe I just deserve it to have things blow up in my face time and time again, ...and to have allergy migraines/sinus problems daily.
I'm just so sick of it all.
I'll try to see if earning money fixes any of it.
I'll try to save every hour or thirty minutes ...or something.
I'll also try to keep a straight face when and if my tablet finally conks out on me. Or my PC upchucks it's HDD... or something equally terrifying.
Above all, I'll try not to lose my mind anymore than I already have.
There has to be a solution that won't turn out to be volatile.

It's come to my attention that a friend of mine has been having money troubles as of recent, and I would like to help them out. Seeing that they seem to have to spend several days a month without food...
That doesn't seem acceptable to me
So I am taking commissions to raise money so they can purchase groceries.
Commissions can be nearly anything "Drawing, animation, story/whatever" check commission information for topics, limitations and base prices.
Prices are flexible at current, so you can pick up pieces for cheaper than usual.
That's about all!
Beyond the scary thought of turkey day without delicious turkey... DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN!

So... drawing programs...
Posted 8 years agoAlright, I'm going to cut a long story short and simple state this.
I'm thinking about upgrading from my old Adobe photoshop Elements 10 because I feel like there are some things about it that just aren't friendly for me when it comes to drawing. Namely things like color selection. Since it seems to be abysmal and I haven't been able to really find good swatch packs... either that or the swatches seem to disappear over time.
I'll be honest, I know next to nothing at all about most art programs and that's why this journal is being put up here.
Beyond that, I use a Wacom Cintiq drawing tablet. The kind that has it's own screen, but is still dependent for a PC to function since it's only really an input device.
Do any of you fine folk know what is essentially a good graphical drawing program that's similar to photoshop?
I've heard of Sai and GIMP. However I don't think I liked GIMP all that much due to it's overall layout. But that was likely years ago.
Edit: Currently I'm thinking of Xara Photo & Graphic Designer

But seriously, is anyone getting the super hard push to purchase this OS from microsoft? The whole free avenue and how they literally do not take no for an answer (There is no option to say no) is beyond creepy. I'm going through the process to remove the blasted notifier from my PC as soon as possible.
I've recently heard that the new OS is a renewal based one, in that you have to pay a yearly fee to keep everything spinning along with Microsoft Office. I'm not sure if it is true, but if it is, the fact that they make no effort to tell you in the notifier is incredibly creepy.
But in all honesty, the compatibility of the new OS is currently very low and it has had some major security flaws and until the time I absolutely need to upgrade I will use windows 7. I did the same bloody thing with XP and 98 before it so I'm used to this malark.
Anyway, for anyone else annoyed with this, there is a lovely site that will (Not) help with the issue.
Edit: It apparently doesn't because the folder has privileges that I as a user actually cannot get. Access is completely denied... This is getting super creepy

Posted 10 years agoThank you cabal, I enjoy having a new laptop to fiddle with and use as my pawn to command and conquer the world, In fact I shall use it to... oooh you tube.

Eh whatever, I'll remember it eventually, but I have a new laptop. It took a while to get it running and it may be a bit of a rust bucket, but it is mine!
So much easier to type on this than my lil-psp... just... fyi and stuff.

Unit lost...
Posted 10 years agoThis is a phrase that you will have likely long since learned to hate, and in this instance it means that my laptop has finally given up the ghost.
It was always a bit terrible though, it couldn't do 3-D at all (literally) and overheated while running anything more intense than youtube. Yes, I would wager a gameboy game could likely work the dammed thing over. Needless to say I think the "Graphics" card is completely bust...
Well what does that mean?
I means that I am painstakingly pecking this out on a psp for one and it is not fun. I could use my main desktop, but as it is I do not want to risk it since I have software on it that is one use only. Meaning that if compromised and having to reinstall the OS again, I could be out no small sum of money. THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT FA IS UNSAFE. It much more means that I cannot trust myself to relax in strict control. Especially since one click can completely ruin a pc. Which regrettably happened to me in the past.
This means that I will not frequent FA nearly as much until I get a replacement.
For others it means that my main skype is also disabled.
Luckily I managed to patch in my old laptop drive to my tower so I can rip what I need off of it after scanning it... thoroughly...

So I have have decided to work with
Charem where I will be doing the line work and he will be coloring. Which is very good since my little drawing monitor pen thing... has naff all in the way of color representation compared to my usual screens.
I will do most any kind of subject though I draw the line at underage/cub, human preds, diapers, and scat/watersports.
There was one slot for the joint, I have finished lining, and Charem has to color, so for now I think the joint slot is closed.
If you want to commission me for lining work or monochrome let me know.
