So uhhhh how are you guys?

I've been considering making another dA account as another means of getting commission work. But I'm a tad hesitant... Personally, dA seems very 'high-school' to me. Not the most mature place out there. But I have heard of people doing very well with it and professional studios actually looking to dA to find new artists?? (Seriously? That just seems bizarre.)

This would me by third account on the site lmao. First was way back in middle school-high school where I posted any and every lil stupid drawing I ever did in my school notebooks. I ended up deleting the account once I got to college and started a new one since I was getting more serious with what I wanted to do as an artist. But, of course, I was in art school and was far too busy and that account really didn't last long haha. So, this would be a more 'professional' account (If you can even be called that on dA). I dunno, I feel like I'm giving this site a lot of flack? Mostly because the majority of my experience on there was in high school where we were all immature lil butts just doodling silly shit. Now, I still draw silly shit, but I take my silly shit much more seriously! lol

What are your thoughts on the site? Good? Bad? Artist buds, have you had good experiences with commissions there? Just trying to find more avenues to get my art out there.

Hey all. Just a quick life update for ya. My husband and I are making a big move from Columbus, OH to Portland, OR next week! With a truck coming to ship out the majority of our stuff on Monday, I won't have any means to work on commissions. So, until we're finally moved in to our new place, commissions will be on pause for a couple weeks. Now, if you're still interested in a commission I'd gladly except them. But just know that It will be a few weeks before I can even start on it. Gonna be busy busy busy until this move is all said and done.

Now, I have been thinking about doing a fun sketch special while we drive for 4 days across the country. Something like $5 road trip sketches that I could work on while it's Hubby's turn to drive. Just a lil something to do on the road. Obviously, I wouldn't be able to upload them here while we're traveling, but I could post them to my tumblr via my phone during the trip. And then properly scan them in and upload them here once we're home. I dunno, what you guys think? Any interest?

I didn't realize how soon this con was! I was thinking most of the cons around here for the rest of the year were when I'd most likely have moved out of state already. But Morphicon is at the end of this month and I'll definitely still be here! I'm only asking off work for Saturday, though. Since I've already asked for so many weekends off lately... So the plan is to just go Saturday. However, if work decides to give me Fri or Sun off without me asking I'll most likely attend those days as well. I live in the Columbus area so to miss out on a con so close would be silly.

But yeah, definitely going Saturday. And maybe Friday or Sunday if I happen to get those days off work.

Unfortunately after this weekend I'm not entirely sure when my next con will be. I won't be attending FWA. Ironically, I will be in Georgia that weekend, but I'll be in Savannah checking out SCAD all day Saturday lmao. Guess I'll be at FWA in spirit? You all have some extra fun for me!

Anyway, now comes crunch time for putting together my portfolio and other application requirements for grad school. If all goes well my husband and I will end up moving to either Georgia or California to start classes in the fall if not summer. I'm starting to get a little nervous, honestly. But whatever happens happens I suppose.

My husband and I are going to San Francisco this week to check out The Academy of Art University. This is one of the schools that we're both looking into for a Masters program. We'll be arriving in town Tuesday afternoon and attending a campus tour Wednesday morning. I'm so excited! I've never been to the west coast in my life and to visit such an amazing school will be a great experience.

So my plan is to apply to some schools next week. I feel like I'm almost finished updating my portfolio and ready to give it a shot! With that said, I will be opening commissions once I've finished sending in my applications. Get pumped!

I've been working on some silly kaiju monsters today. My little guys are usually based on real life animals so I thought why not ask my buds for some suggestions for more kaiju?

So go a head and suggest some animals or hybrids or whatever and I'll try and kaiju-ify them. I'm more partial to reptiles/amphibians but anything goes! (I mean I just drew a penguin kaiju today... if that gives you any idea of how crazy these can be haha)

But don't fret. I'll be posting another journal when the stream goes live too.

We'll start off with some quick gesture drawing. Probably like 30 second/1 min intervals. Get some squiggly lines going for a nice warm up! (because I haven't done any figure drawing in YEARS. How horrible.) Then move on to longer sessions. like 10-15 minutes. And we'll end it with a long 30+ minute drawing!

It would be great to work on these drawings as a little group. I can't stress enough how great figure drawing is for artists. It was my favorite class in college and I learned so much from it! I really need to get back into doing it more often and this will be a fun way to do that. So, if you're an artist I highly recommend you join in or just practice more figure drawing in general. IS GOOD.

Now. personally, I will be taking the realistic drawing route - drawing what I see. You don't have to do this! Want to draw the ref in a toony style? Go for it. Want to practice drawing your 'sona using the refs? You go it. Don't like the ref I'm using? No biggie, you can use your own. You can do whatever you like! I want this to be a very open do-whatever-the-hell-you-want kind of thing. Just a bunch of doops working on art. So realistic, stylized, whatever, it's up to you!

Also, reminder that this will be a 18+ stream as we'll be working from nude models as well as clothed.
