Tom and Jerry: The Golden Era Anthology Blu-ray/DVD on 12/2
General | Posted 2 months agoI just saw recently that a complete chronological set of the original run of Tom and Jerry shorts is releasing on Blu-ray and DVD on December 2 from Warner Archive, thus it’s finally going to be the first time that EVERY short from 1940 to 1958 will be released. Yes, even Mouse Cleaning and Casanova Cat which had proven to be quite a controversial aspect that was a bone of contention with the Spotlight Collection series on DVD and caused the cancellation of the previous most recent attempt of releasing the shorts on home video over a decade ago (Golden Collection Vol. 2) with the firestorm it caused at the time. Thankfully, this time around we’re getting the entire complete run of the MGM/Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera produced T&J cartoons. The Blu-ray version is going to have a commemorative book, audio commentaries, bonus disc and other stuff then the standard DVD edition which will still have the commentaries on select shorts.
This is definitely a set i’m quite looking forward to, because with all the flaws that affected the previous releases it’s good that our prayers have finally been answered here.

RIP James Earl Jones (1931-2024)
General | Posted a year agoI just saw on an X post a bit ago that actor James Earl Jones has passed away at age 93, best known for the distinctive voice under the mask of Darth Vader (aka Anakin Skywalker) in the Star Wars saga, most notably the original trilogy, Revenge of the Sith and others, along with the great king Mufasa in The Lion King, both the original Disney animated classic and photo realistic CGI remake. Needless to say, he's right up there for me along with Orson Welles, Isaac Hayes and other actors who possessed the kind of golden bass-ey pipes that carried their performances. As a Star Wars fan along with The Lion King being among one of my top all time favorite Disney animated films this is definitely a difficult thing to see having happened. Still, he certainly did live a long and accomplished life in those 93 years and will be forever remembered particularly his place in voicing the above two characters that remain the most known credits of his career.
RIP to the man who was the instantly recognized voice of a fallen Jedi turned Sith Lord since redeemed and a late wise lion king, you will always be cherished for the many amazing roles in your decades as an actor.

RIP Akira Toriyama (1955-2024)
General | Posted a year agoI have just seen that Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball and others such beloved manga/anime series as Dr. Slump, Sand Land, Neko Majin and others passed away a few days ago on March 1 at the age of 68 apparently from an acute hematoma sustained by head injury, and it is only now reaching within wider circles of the web now. Needless to say, i have no words. As a Dragon Ball fan this is a major shocker to now see, and it will be kind of weird to see future DB projects not having his personal touch going forward. Still, it goes without saying that in those 68 years he rose to become one of the most well known manga artists in history, standing alongside such greats as Osamu Tezuka, Tatsuo Yoshida and inspiring several generations of future mangakas. Along with having many of his series' immortalized in anime, both full and one shot alike.
RIP Toriyama-sensei, you will be forever remembered for the legacy of your manga/anime contributions both in your homeland and abroad along with the inspiration that they have brought to many generations.

RIP Bob Barker (1923-2023)
General | Posted 2 years agoI just found out a short time ago that Robert “Bob” Barker, legendary host of The Price is Right from 1972 to 2007 has passed away at the age of 99 just a few months shy of the century mark. As someone who had watched the show as a young child in the late '90s/early 2000's it's quite saddening to find out, given what a long lived and fulfilled life he had in those 99 years. An impressive 50 years in television, not only as the "Star of The Price is Right" for 35 of those years but also on Truth or Consequences before that, appearances on many other game shows as well as hosting awards shows and Miss pageants. As well as the occasional film appearance such as his memorable guest spot on Happy Gilmore. The list goes on and on, he was definitely a legend in his time and a part of a great many childhoods. There's no words for what an amazing career he had for that large piece of his life. He will always be forevermore remembered for bringing entertainment to several generations of people.
RIP Bob, you've now joined your beloved Dorothy Jo in the next life (after 40+ years apart since she left this mortal coil herself back in 1981) along with Johnny Olson, Rod Roddy, Mark Goodson, Bill Todman, Frank Wayne, Marc Breslow, Betty White and many of your television friends and others. Thanks for the memories!!!!!!

TMNT 2k3 Complete Series (and Movie) Set Coming 7/25...
General | Posted 2 years agoI recently saw some posts in the last few days revealing that a complete "Ultimate Collection" set of the 2003-2009 "2k3" Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series is coming to DVD at long last from Viacom/Nickelodeon/Paramount next month on July 25th. It's also including post series crossover film Turtles Forever along with the main series all together in one massive 18 disc collection. This is very exciting news, as we've all waited a very long time especially given how the series' original timeline of release on DVD back in the early to late 2000's was nothing short of a frustrating and tedious mess that was scattershot and all over the map. The first two seasons were initially released with being piecemealed out across a bajillion (14 in total) three or four episode single disc volumes, then Season 3 was released over seven discs albeit with some of the fourth season's episodes randomly thrown into a jumbled up mixture (specifically the Volume 3.5-3.7 discs) where in some cases they were completely out of the intended viewing order in ways that made no sense and mucked up the flow of the narrative in that stretch of episodes as a result, the fourth season DVD released after wasn't even a complete season set but merely the remaining eps not included in the prior out of order discs and Season 7/Back to the Sewers didn't get released on disc at all in the U.S. but only other countries elsewhere in the world like Australia, and the subsequent proper complete season set re releases weren't finished with only S1, S2, S5/Ninja Tribunal and S6/Fast Forward getting them but not the others before the license was dropped later in 2009 (which was also during the franchise's 25th anniversary celebration that year) and it changed hands with only a handful of single discs of scattered episodes released here and there since then. Plus of course the Turtles Forever DVD single release by Nickleodeon/Paramount was quite a letdown because it was the cut down edited for TV version and not the full extended uncut edition as well as being non anamorphic widescreen. So, hopefully this set fixes that and it's the full length cut as well as having the proper 16:9 frame.
Definitely looking forward to getting this bad boy, because given how much i liked watching the 2k3 series back when it was originally on so this will be really awesome having a proper series release after how much time it took to come out. It's great to see this major (and closer to Eastman and Laird's OG comics) part of the Turtles' franchise finally get it's due from Viacom/Nickelodeon/Paramount with a properly complete set. Good on you guys for finally giving TMNT '03 the treatment it has deserved for so long, and given it's my second favorite of the numerous series after the beloved (and classic) 1987-1996 cartoon.

Beastars Season 3/Final Season Coming in 2024 (Date TBD)
General | Posted 3 years agoNote: (First journal in over a year, yeah it's been a while)
Well, it's been officially confirmed by Studio Orange and Netflix that Beastars Season 3 aka "The Final Season" is releasing to Netflix (which suggests to me that it's not airing on Japanese TV first as Seasons 1 and 2 did) sometime in 2024. An official release date has not yet been revealed at this time, though it's looking like this will be a two part season covering the rest of the series' story. Needless to say, i'm looking forward to finally seeing the remainder in animated form.

R.I.P Thea White, 1940-2021
General | Posted 4 years agoI just saw a bit ago that Thea White, the one and only voice of Muriel Bagge on Courage the Cowardly Dog has sadly passed away a couple days ago at age 81 from complications of surgery. This was devastating to hear as aside from Courage himself Muriel was my other favorite character and her distinct Scottish accent made it all the more sweeter, and aside from her most famous role has voiced in other projects over the years such as some of the Scooby-Doo DTV films and most recently reprised Muriel for the Scooby-Doo and Courage crossover film releasing next month. She's now the third of the show's main VA's to pass, after Eustace's original voice Lionel Wilson back in 2003 and second voice Arthur Anderson in 2016.
RIP Thea, you made Muriel such a wholesome and sweet character. :(

Beastars Season 2 Now on Nextflix and Season 3 News/Updat...
General | Posted 4 years agoBeen a long time since my last journal here, so this is just announcing that season two of Beastars has now dropped on Netflix and is now available internationally since it's original run in Japanese concluded back in March. So at this point we are now at the halfway mark in terms of adapting the manga. At this point presently the third season has not yet been officially announced by Studio Orange and Netflix at this point, however given the great reception the first two seasons have gotten so far it looks very likely that they will continue on with adapting the "Interspecies Relations" arc and first part of the "Revenge of the Love Failure" arc (chapters 100-123) as season three and the rest of the latter (chapters 124-196) as season four. Assuming it's coming we're looking at release sometime next year so i'm certain we'll be seeing more of Legoshi and friends soon enough. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the series getting the anime treatment.

R.I.P Marcie...2003-2020
General | Posted 5 years agoI just got around to writing this despite intending to post sooner. Sadly my oldest beagle dog in my family, who was a girl named Marcie passed on a few days ago at the ripe age of 18 years. She had been in declining health for a while but especially within the last couple of months and old age just caught up to her in the end. She'd been in relatively good shape for the longest time until about roughly about a year ago when she started slowing down, having trouble eating at times and in general less activity compared to before. My parents got her as a small puppy way back in the summer of 2003 when i was nine years old and she was a good ol' dog for a very long time as both myself and my little brother grew up, and eventually our other two dogs subsequently acquired and grown. Needless to say, it's hard to believe she lived to be that old as most dogs don't even come close to that long of a life span.
Thus, that makes her the second and by far oldest pet my family's had to have passed after our old Spaniel dog who was 17 1/2 when she passed on back in 2008, and my parents had gotten her before i'd even been born. It's definitely been rather difficult to wrap my mind around her's being gone, but i take some pride in knowing she lived a good long life and her brief bout of suffering has finally ended.

R.I.P Brice Armstrong...1936-2020
General | Posted 6 years agoI just saw from a post on both Anime News Network and the Kanzenshuu forums that former FUNimation dub VA Brice Armstrong, best known as the voice of Captain Ginyu (succeeding Dale Kelly) in most of the early-mid 2000's DBZ dub productions including video games plus the narrator of the original Dragon Ball series dub and 10th Anniversary movie (Path to Power) plus Lord Slug in DBZ movie 4 and many other roles in such dubs as Yu Yu Hakusho has passed away at age 84 from natural causes. This marks the first passing on the U.S. side of the franchise.
R.I.P and God speed Brice, you've lived a good long life and your performances will always be remembered by a great many anime fans.

Happy 50th B-Day to Scooby-Doo.
General | Posted 6 years agoJust a little write up to celebrate a big milestone in animation history, as today marks the fiftieth anniversary of Scooby-Doo's debut on September 13, 1969 with the very first episode of "Scooby-Doo, Where are You!" on CBS. Thus began one of the most beloved long running franchises of the Saturday morning/Big Three network era and something that several generations of people have enjoyed in childhood.
So a happy 50th to Scooby and the rest of the Mystery Inc gang. You have and will still continue to be one of my favorite old school cartoons/franchises.

My Thoughts on Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling
General | Posted 6 years agoI finally got around to watching the special within the last day or so on Netflix following it's debut back on the 9th, and in short i was about as impressed after the first watch as i had been with Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie back in 2017. It really rang close to the original series overall in terms of the respectful 2D animation which fit right into with the former although still resembling the newer forms, including having basically the entire core voice cast which of course was so awesome to hear them all back together once more. All of the scattered references and side nods to the series made for a really good mix not to mention more or less following from the future episode which is funny because i actually re watched that very one recently, as a means of setting up to watch the special. What more can i say, i tip my proverbial hat to Joe and the cast/crew for revisiting these characters and the universe again after so many years. It was truly a blast and was pretty much what i thought it would be.
Now then, bring on Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus!!!!

R.I.P Tim Conway... 1933-2019
General | Posted 6 years agoI just learned the unfortunate news of comedian and actor/VA Tim Conway's passing at age 85, as we have lost yet another regular who made The Carol Burnett Show such a riot in the course of those 11 years and who made so many laugh alongside Carol herself and Vicki but especially Harvey Korman with such classic characters as Mickey Hart and others. And of course to the younger generations he was best known as the voice of aged hero sidekick Barnacle Boy on SpongeBob Squarepants, a role of his i still enjoy to this day especially in the earlier seasons.
R.I.P Tim, your stellar work in television and animation will be remembered always.

R.I.P Stan Lee.... 1922-2018
General | Posted 7 years agoWe have lost a true legend in the comics world, as Marvel co creator Stan Lee has sadly passed away today of unknown causes at age 95. He started his long career in the comics industry along with Jack Kirby back in the early 1960's, and over the ensuing years created some of the best known series including Spider-Man, X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Guardians of the Galaxy and so many more. Given the massive number of ongoing comics he created in all his years at Marvel, he definitely left an indelible mark upon several generations of both comic readers and film goers.

R.I.P Burt Reynolds... 1936-2018
General | Posted 7 years agoWe have unfortunately lost another acting great, as legendary actor Burt Reynolds passed away earlier this week from a heart attack at 82 years old. He was most well known by scores of fans as the moon runner Bandit in the classic 1977 hit Smokey and the Bandit alongside Sally Fields, he also starred in other films with other greats including Dolly Parton in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and Hooper as well as Boogie Nights and The Longest Yard. Many people may also remember his performance as Charlie Barkin in the original All Dogs Go to Heaven film, he definitely proved to be a true talent that was endeared to so many through the personality he brought in all these roles.
Rest in Peace, Burt. Your amazing talent will remain through all your films and other works.

Thoughts on Resident Evil 2 Remake Promo
General | Posted 7 years agoI just recently saw the trailer for the new Resident Evil 2 REmake coming next year from Capcom, and it really piqued my interest with the way they appear to have entirely overhauled the game engine beyond just graphics and added numerous elements more similar to the mechanics of RE4 onward. This is much more than a simple reskinned tweaking with better graphics like the old remake of the first Resident Evil game for the GameCube back in 2002 was, this seems like it will go for a totally refreshed approach to bring the fun of the original with an all new advanced graphics engine.
Here is the trailer itself if you want to see for yourself what is in store.

Rejected CN 2004 Pilot Episode- "Party Wagon"
General | Posted 7 years agoI just found a video recently broken into five parts of the rejected series pilot "Party Wagon" which was aired on Cartoon Network in early 2004, it was produced by Craig Bartlett the creator of Hey Arnold! as a potential series to air on the network. Sadly in the end the pilot didn't get picked up as a full series which continued from the falling out that he'd had with Nickelodeon over the failing of Hey Arnold! The Movie at the box office and the shelving of the intended Jungle Movie, and it's really a shame this didn't get green lit because there was so much potential with the Old West setting and the depths of the characters that is explored quite deeply. I could have seen this working had there been more push behind it given that there was a lot of world building and development that could have come about over time.

NickSplat Airing Classic Double Dare Episodes... June 18-24
General | Posted 7 years agoI just read that as a lead in to the new Double Dare revival coming in a few weeks that TeenNick will be airing classic DD episodes from June 18-24 on NickSplat. On each of those days they will be airing two episodes of the original Double Dare, two of Family Double Dare and three of Double Dare 2000 for a half hour.
It's great to see them do this seeing as it has been quite a long while since Double Dare anything has been on the block. This is something that i will definitely be tuning in for.

He was also in many other appearances in films and on television series including Space Above and Beyond, as well as work for The History Channel and Military Channel plus quite a few voice over roles in numerous animated works.

Happy 20th B-Day to CatDog...
General | Posted 7 years agoIt was officially 20 years ago today, on April 4, 1998 that the first episode of CatDog "Dog Gone/All You Can't Eat" aired on that nights' SNICK lineup as a special premiere preview after Kids Choice Awards '98. The series began it's regular run a few months later on Nickelodeon proper on October 5th, and i first saw the show personally some time when i was around five years old. Ever since then the show has remained one of my personal favorite Nicktoons after Rocko's Modern Life and Hey Arnold!.

R.I.P Heather North Kenney... 1946-2017
General | Posted 8 years agoI saw just a bit ago that actress Heather North Kenney, best known as the second voice of Daphne Blake in the Scooby-Doo franchise has passed away at age 71. She took over the role in season two of Where Are You after her original VA Indira Stefanniana Christopherson departed after the first 17 episodes of the series. She continued voicing the character consistently in nearly all of the various Scooby series and specials from then on all the way up through the late 1990s, and one more time again in the two TV movies in 2003 respectively. She also had many roles in various other projects over the years, including such shows as Days of our Lives.
Rest in peace, Heather. I have always enjoyed your Scooby voice work for many years.
This makes her the second of Daph's voices to pass after Mary Kay Bergman back in late 1999.
