R.I.P Jim Nabors...1926-2017
General | Posted 8 years agoI just saw earlier today that comedian and actor Jim Nabors, best known as lovable goofball gas station man Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle, USMC as well as frequent The Carol Burnett Show guest star has sadly passed away at age 87. He brought a certain charm to these series that remains even all these decades later.
R.I.P Jim, may your great comedic performances be remembered always.

My Thoughts on Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie
General | Posted 8 years agoI finally had the opportunity to see the movie on TV last night after i recorded the premiere on Friday. Now i have watched it and am able to share my thoughts after watching, and i must say that i was very impressed at how the whole film was pulled off. It was amazing to finally see all the characters again after so many years, there was definitely more awesome references and moments to the original series that i could process. It was so intensely satisfying to say the least!!! Of course the ending was plain awesome too, with Arnold at last reuniting with his long missing parents and finally reciprocating Helga's affections. This was definitely a much deserved close to a project that languished in development hell for well over a decade due to Hey Arnold! The Movie's disappointing box office performance back in 2002, but the dedicated fan base of the series were able to make it a reality from what seemed just a pipe dream to so many. With that, the series is now finally concluded after thirteen years. Thank you to Craig and all the devoted fans who were able to finally make this see the light of day.
Now to start the waiting game until the Rocko movie comes out...

R.I.P Hiromi Tsuru...1960-2017
General | Posted 8 years agoToday we have lost a major voice in the Dragon Ball cast over in Japan, as seiyuu Hiromi Tsuru has sadly passed away today at the age of 57 from unknown causes. She was a mainstay in the Dragon Ball series and movies as the wonderful voice of not only Bulma for well over thirty years, but also as daughter Bra/Bulla and even baby Trunks, as well as many different other anime series from over the years. Her roles run the gamut from super robot mecha shows to slice of life shows and everything in between, but her performance as Bulma remains perhaps her most famous role of all.
Note: At this point there is no cause of death as of now
Sayonara Hiromi-chan, you're legendary work as a seiyuu will be forever remembered in the anime world by all your fans.

Classic DBZ Fansub Clips
General | Posted 8 years agoHere are some old videos from YouTube of some old Anime Labs fansub clips of DBZ episodes from the old days. These tapes are infamous for their crappy generational quality, random and snarky messages placed in parts and most notoriously the excessive cursing thrown around everywhere. These subs are by far the most interesting to watch as their attempt to make the show more "adult" and hardcore.
Here are a few particularly infamous examples of Anime Labs' subbing and messages.

Happy 20th B-Day, Disney's One Saturday Morning
General | Posted 8 years agoToday officially marks twenty years since Disney's One Saturday Morning block premiered on ABC's Saturday morning schedule, on September 13, 1997. This was a block i definitely enjoyed watching back when i was four or five years old, it was certainly stronger in terms of programming than the later ABC Kids re brand was.
This was the first lineup of shows from the block's launch on this day until around mid 1998 i believe.
8:00- 101 Dalmatians: The Series
9:00- Brand Spankin' New Doug (later Disney's Doug)
9:30- Recess
10:00- Pepper Ann
10:30- The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show
11:30- Jungle Cubs
12:00- The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
12:30- Science Court (later Squigglevision)
Of course here are some nostalgia packed videos to mark this anniversary

www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpIZkxueaR0 (Note: This was an early promo for 101 Dalmatians and Recess from March 1997 before they premiered on OSM, they feature early character designs that were changed later.)

R.I.P, June Foray... 1917-2017
General | Posted 8 years agoI just heard a bit ago that we have sadly lost another voice over legend, veteran voice actress June Foray who has passed away today at age 99. She was truly one of the greatest voices in the Golden era of animation who was in the business for 60 something years, voicing such memorable characters as Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Natasha Fatale in The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Granny and others in Looney Tunes, Granny Gummi in Adventures of the Gummi Bears, Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Grandma Fa in Mulan and so many more. She is now up there with such voice greats as Mel Blanc and so many others. We have truly lost a great voice talent that was a part of so many peoples childhoods for so many years.
She had such a long life, with a comparably long voice career that touched so many people's lives through her work.
Rest in peace, June. Your wonderful talent will always be remembered!!!

Hey Arnold! Jungle Movie Sneak Peek...
General | Posted 8 years agoFollowing up from my updated journal yesterday about the Rocko TV special, i finally got to watch the SDCC sneak peek for the Hey Arnold! Jungle TV movie on Youtube today. Of course just like the Rocko preview i was blown away here too with the animation style, as it looked almost exactly like the original show and everything only more modern looking. This is certainly the thing that all of the fans of the show have waited over thirteen years for and now it is finally coming.
Thank you Nick, now Arnold can get the closure he has so long deserved.
Anyways, here is the video for you to get hyped up

SDCC Rocko "Static Cling" Sneak Peek...
General | Posted 8 years agoI just saw this video from SDCC posted on Nickelodeon's Youtube page about the upcoming Rocko TV special, and let me tell you that it looks just awesome. The animation is more or less just like the original series only with a more cleaner look and all the actors are back to lend their voices to all of these hilarious characters.
What more can i say, i will eagerly be anticipating this thing when it airs next year.
Here is the video if you want to see the awesomeness for yourself.

Rocko's Modern Life "Static Cling" Special- Coming Next Year
General | Posted 8 years agoHere is an update on the Rocko's Modern Life TV special airing on Nickelodeon next year, i just found out that the special is being titled as Static Cling. It will pick up from where the Future Shlock finale of the original series left off over twenty years ago. It will have all the original voices actors coming back to voice their characters as well as some new voices, so of course we will get to hear Carlos Alazraqui, Tom Kenny and Mr. Lawrence and the rest go at it again, and as you can guess i am really hyped for this. The fact that it has the original cast and crew working on it ensures that this will be a great nostalgic event. I am hyped for this just like the Hey Arnold special, and from what i have heard so far this looks to be really great.
There has not been a concrete date set for the special, but it is definitely airing next year for sure.

R.I.P Adam West... 1928-2017
General | Posted 8 years agoI just saw a bit ago that actor Adam West has passed away today at the age of 88, best known for his portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman in the popular live action TV series from 1966 to 1968 and related film. He also did a good number of voice acting roles in shows such as Family Guy and many others including several animated Batman series and movies in said role with Burt Ward also reprising Dick Grayson/Robin as well, but the original '60s Batman TV show remains by far his most famous work of all.
You will be dearly missed Adam, and your long acting career will be remembered by all of your fans young and old.

Speed Racer on DVD and Blu-Ray from FUNimation....5/30/17
General | Posted 8 years agoI am posting this about the new Speed Racer Blu-ray sets coming out tomorrow from FUNimation, who acquired the license to the franchise after the Tatsunoko lawsuit against Speed Racer Enterprises who previously held the rights from 1993 up to some time in 2011. This set will be followed by another containing the original Japanese Mach Go Go Go series subtitled, as well as a set with the '97 remake that had a very short lived run here as Speed Racer X back in 2002.
This set reportedly has the original 1967 Speed Racer titles from when the series was originally broadcast, and not the re composited CG ones that SRE created when they remastered the show for re runs back in the early 1990's.
Here is a preview i found on YT talking about the release.

Happy 40th B-Day... Star Wars aka A New Hope
General | Posted 8 years agoI decided to do this journal write up to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the original Star Wars film, later known as Episode IV- A New Hope. The film premiered in U.S. theaters forty years ago today on May 25, 1977 and very soon became the most highest earning film of that summer season and the entire year. Thus starting one of the all time greatest sagas of science fantasy films ever made. Even to this day it still remains one of my all time favorite films ever since i was a little kid and it will always be a big part of my childhood, as it was during my dad's childhood before me.
So a very happy 40th to Star Wars, the pinnacle of science fiction films.

Samurai Jack... The Saga Concludes
General | Posted 8 years agoI finally got to see the finale for season five of Samurai Jack tonight, and let me say that i am so glad that the series has finally gotten the closure it deserved for nearly thirteen years. It was something to see all of the loose ends tied up and Aku defeated once and for all and to see Jack return to the past and undo all the damage.
Thank you Mr. Tartakovsky, it was great that you were finally able to bring one of your most popular series to a satisfying and long awaited end.

My Thoughts on Guardians Vol.2
General | Posted 8 years agoI am posting yet another journal to follow up on the one i posted last night about going to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, and of course i said i would be posting my thoughts after having seen it at our local theater. Needless to say that it was equally hilarious and action packed at the same time. This second installment was definitely nearly as great if not better than the first film, i definitely got the enjoyment out of it that i had tastes of with watching the various trailers and clips leading up to it. Not to mention all of the obligatory '80s references and so on, it was just a blast to see on the big screen.
So on a scale of 1 to 10, i give it an 8.

Going To See GOTG 2 Tonight...
General | Posted 8 years agoThis is just a quick update on the journal i posted last week on Guardians of the Galaxy 2's release coming tomorrow. Well i am going to see the film tonight as one of the theatres in our area is screening it before the actual scheduled release. I have been looking forward to this for a good while now, it looks like this will be quite the action packed flick.
I will of course post what i thought of the film after i see it.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2- Coming Next Week!!!
General | Posted 8 years agoWe are officially now only little over a week away from the release of the much anticipated second chapter in the Guardians series, and as you can gather i am pumped to go see it after it releases next week on the 5th. Seeing as how the first film did so well back in 2014 i certainly have no doubts this will be just as good if not better.
Here's an interesting little video i found in anticipation of the film's release.

R.I.P Don Rickles... 1926-2017
General | Posted 8 years agoI found out just now that veteran comedian and actor Don Rickles passed away earlier today due to kidney failure at age 90. His comedy career spanned several decades as well as being a part of Frank Sinatra's legendary band The Rat Pack, and of course his ultra hilarious Dean Martin celebrity roast appearances. But to so many he was best known as the one and only voice of Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story films. We have truly lost a great in the comic circle.
Rest in piece, Don. Your amazing comedic genius and wit will be remembered and forever enjoyed!!!

Jhonen Vasquez Working On Invader Zim TV Movie...
General | Posted 8 years agoI just saw an article recently that Invader Zim creator Jhonen Vasquez is working on a TV film of the series. I was surprised to see this as the turmoil he endured during the show's production is well known, it is good to see that it seems he has resolved the animosity with Nickelodeon over the circumstances that caused Zim's sadly premature cancellation back in 2002.
Here is the article talking about the upcoming film, i can't believe it is really happening.

Happy 20th Anniversary, Pokemon
General | Posted 8 years agoIt has officially been 20 years since the Pokemon anime premiered in Japan on April 1, 1997 on T.V Tokyo. Thereby starting one of the most popular series of all time after Dragon Ball, it is hard to believe that this franchise has really been around for so long. Not to mention being exported to the U.S and virtually everywhere else in the world.
Note that this is only celebrating the series debut in Japan, the anime didn't premier here in the U.S until a year later in September 1998 in syndication. Of course when that milestone comes about next year i will be noting it as such.
So a very happy 20th to Pokemon, thanks for so many great childhood memories.

Happy 20th, Toonami...
General | Posted 8 years agoI decided to finally post this being that today is the 20th anniversary of Toonami's premiere on Cartoon Network on March 17, 1997. Thus began IMO one of Cartoon Network's greatest lineups of animated shows ever. I am amazed that it has really been this long since the block first started as i was not even three years old yet when it first debuted, i didn't really start watching it regularly until after TOM became the regular host. That was some time back in late 1999 or so when i was five, and even to this day remains a large part of my childhood.
So here's to 20 years Toonami, a very happy 20th to you!!!
Note that i will be posting a drawing to go along with this journal later today.
Here is a video to commemorate the occasion in the meantime...

Samurai Jack Season 5... Premiering Tomorrow
General | Posted 8 years agoHere is a quick reminder that the new season of Samurai Jack is premiering tomorrow night on Toonami at 10:00 pm, and of course i will most certainly be watching when it premieres. It is nice to see them finally continuing the series after nearly 13 years of wondering whether or not it would ever see the light of day again, at least we can now see the series properly wrapped up as it should have been years ago.
Seriously, i am personally beyond psyched for it.
