I hate how artists on this website USE patreon. Taking a ton of income from your followers and then locking up major content for people who aren't pledging for months/forever. This is a vicious cycle.

See, in the artist's mind, if the pledgers dont have a decent enough benefit for giving money every month, they wont sign on. So in favor of the minority over the majority of his/her fans they make exclusive content for them to keep them happy, while the people not signed up either begrudgingly continue to support the artist by watching them and getting nothing in return, or by trying to find it leaked.

DOING THIS ALWAYS GUARANTEES THAT YOUR 'EXCLUSIVE CONTENT' WILL BE LEAKED. ITS A FLAWED SYSTEM.

The fans who were blindsided by this decision will almost always feel no remorse for going on websites like u18chan and viewing leaked comics and artwork for free. In fact, because its leaked paid content the judgements for its quality are going to be even harsher and run a high risk of giving you a bad rap as either a rip off artist or overrated.

So here is what im going to do, and I've thought about this extensively.

In the next few months I am going to be starting a short story comic called Relations with these characters: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/18129123/ . It will be an adult romance comic with some sex scenes and nudity.

I want to make this extremely extremely clear, I AM DOING THIS COMIC 100% FOR FREE.


However, if there is enough interest in the idea, I will create a patreon account STRICTLY for people who feel like pledging. The minimum pledge would be $5 if people are okay with this idea.

Now im sure everyone is thinking 'okay well if its optional to donate what the hell is the incentive to pledge?'

To keep everything completely fair and to not go back on my opinions about patreon, there will be NO EXCLUSIVE FINISHED CONTENT for people who pledge. Ive broken the rewards into 2 sections right now:

-$5 gets you things like WIPS and Inks of uncompleted pages and to view the pages a week earlier than on FA.
-$10 gets you a full-resolution PDF of the comic upon its completion and all the benefits of the $5 pledge.

NEITHER OF THESE ARE NECESSARY TO ACCESS THE COMIC. PLEDGING WOULD ONLY MEAN YOU GET TO SEE IT A WEEK EARLY AND GET SOME BONUS INSIGHT INTO THE PRODUCTION. THE PAGES WILL BE POSTED ON FA A WEEK AFTER THEY GO UP ON PATREON AND NOT HAVE ANY CONTENT RESTRICTED. THIS IS ABOUT EQUALITY TO MY FANBASE AND TO GIVE THE EXTRA DEDICATED MEMBERS SOME SMALL BONUSES FOR BEING KIND ENOUGH TO SEND MONEY MY WAY EVEN THOUGH THEY DONT HAVE TO. ALSO IMPORTANT, THIS COMIC IS NOT RELIANT ON PATREON AND WOULD CONTINUE TO BE MADE EVEN IF I HAD 0 PLEDGES. DO NOT FEEL PRESSURED TO PLEDGE TO ENSURE NEW PAGES WILL BE MADE, PLEDGE IF YOU WANT TO SUPPORT ME IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAN USUAL.

Most importantly, I feel that going this route will lessen the impact that leaking patreon content would have. I know that the second people draw animal dick comics they go onto U18chan, i frequent that website every day looking at animal dick comics. I know exactly how fragile the sense of 'exclusivity' is. I dont give a shit about turning a $10k profit from this comic like tons of artists do, this comic could earn $10 in its entire run and it'd still be made.


Now, if this sound reasonable and if people are interested, PLEASE let me know in the comments, because I'm not even going to consider going the patreon route if there's no interest.
