General | Posted 17 years agoMOST RECENT STORY: Going Home: Chapter Two: The Discovery
IN PROGRESS: The Roommate (non-Pokémon story)
CURRENT DISTRACTION: Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War
I've noticed something odd about the page view levels of the stories I upload.
Whenever I upload a story that's a simple one-shot, such as http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2084026 or http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1993598 they get 100+ views in a matter of a day or two.
But whenever I upload a story that's part of a series, such as http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1882297 or http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1841327, it gets nothing in comparison.
I don't change my writing style between the two kinds of stories, so that can't be the explanation.
So what is it? Are readers somehow scared off by the prospect of a story with multiple parts? Is there something...intimidating (perhaps not the most appropriate word) about knowing that to get the whole story, you'll have to read all the parts?
Does anyone else who writes multi-part stories see this trend as well? (
ysrnty, I'm looking your way)

My username on most sites is capthavoc123, and on AGNPH I go simply by Havoc. I also use the pen name Havoc to "sign" all my works.
The story behind it is simple and uncomplicated. I'm big into video games, and my favorite game series (outside of Pokemon) is Command & Conquer. Captain Nick Parker is a commando with GDI Special Forces in the Tiberium universe of C&C, and is the featured character of the obscure and poorly-received Command & Conquer: Renegade, a game that I happen to love and still play to this day.
In that game, Nick Parker almost never goes by his real name, instead going by the code name "Havoc".
So that's it, really. Take all of that information and you have Capt. Havoc, or capthavoc. The 123 is just something I added because the root name was already taken.

This is the hell I have been putting myself through for the past three days (if any of you have taken any college-level sociology classes, you will know my pain):
Sample Answer from my Community and Crime Midterm Study Guide:
According to Robinson, the ecological fallacy is the propensity of sociologists to name an individual's behavior as the best dependent variable. However, this does not work when you lack data at the individual level, so the fallacy becomes apparent when you try to apply aggregate level data to individuals. In other words, the ecological fallacy is using either aggregate or individual data to make an assumption about the other. Individual level analysis is therefore preferable to aggregate level analysis because crime is ultimately committed by individuals, not groups.
It makes sense to me, and I wish it didn't because that means I am this close to being a complete loss to normal society. And all this just so I can go to police academy.
I am inches away from killing myself, and I haven't even taken the goddamn test yet.
I never thought I would ever say this, ever, but I need a beer.

I've been getting messages from random people on AIM lately, and I suspect they're probably from people watching me either here or on AGNPH. And that's cool, I'm always happy to talk to new people on the internet.
But if you're going to message me on AIM, please send me a note or drop me an email first to let me know who you are. Because if I see a message from an AIM name that doesn't match the name of anyone on my watch list or doesn't correlate with anyone I've seen on AGNPH, I'm probably going to ignore it. And I don't want you to think it's because I'm being a dick. I'm just not fond of repeating the experience of getting a crippling virus through AIM because of talking to someone who randomly messaged me.

Simply answer the questions and tag whoever at the end.
The Questions:
1. Are you a story-writer, or a poet?
Story writer.
2. If you said "story-writer" to the last question, do you write short stories, short stories with chapters, full-size novels, or scripts?
Yes.
3. Do you write based on your own Ideas, requests, or both?
Both, but requests more so.
4. Have you drawn a character/scene from your writing before?
Yeah, and it was shit.
5. Have you ever requested/commissioned someone to draw something from your writing?
I've done both.
6. How often do you think about what you write/plan to write?
All the time.
Answer the next two honestly now...
7. Have you ever modeled a character completely after yourself?
Mark in "Study Break" is pretty much me, minus the sexy girlfriend.
8. Have you ever fantasized about one of your characters?
Huh, try like all of the female ones.
And I think everyone who I know well enough to tag has been already. If you, by any chance, haven't, then consider yourself tagged.

This is it.
The big one.
Today is my twenty-first birthday.
Except…I don’t drink…so it’s kind of anti-climactic…and cigars and porn already came at eighteen…so…yeah.
Events in history that happened on my birthday:
1377 – The Cesena Bloodbath
1690 – Massachusetts issues the first paper money in America
1783 – Spain recognizes US independence
1873 – The Fifteenth Amendment to the US Constitution is ratified (voting rights regardless of race)
1913 – The Sixteenth Amendment to the US Constitution is ratified (income tax)
1917 – The US breaks off diplomatic relations with Germany (for the first time...)
1945 – 1,000 B-17 bombers bomb the shit out of Berlin (USA! USA! USA!)
1959 – Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper die in a plane crash (The Day the Music Died…fuck)
1966 – Soviet spacecraft Luna 9 makes the first rocket landing on the moon (unmanned)
1969 – Yasser Arafat is appointed leader of the PLO
1998 – A US military plane cuts the line of a cable car in Italy, plunging 20 people to their deaths (way to go, genius…)
2007 – a bomb explodes in a Baghdad market, killing 135 and injuring 339
People who were born on my birthday:
1338 – Jeanne de Bourbon, wife of Charles V of France
1809 – Felix Mendelssohn, German composer
1811 – Horace Greeley, American journalist, editor, and publisher (hope I caught some of that magic)
1859 – Hugo Junkers, German aircraft designer
1894 – Norman Rockwell, American illustrator (I know I didn’t catch any of that magic)
(everybody after that was people I’d never heard of)
People who died on my birthday (depressing):
1874 – Lunalilo, Hawaiian monarch
1924 – Woodrow Wilson, President of the United States of America
1935 – Hugo Junkers, German aircraft designer (whoa, freaky)
1945 – Roland Freisler, Nazi leader (shithead probably got hit by one of those B-17s)
1959 – Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper, American musicians (again, fuck)
1985 – Frank Oppenheimer, American physicist and younger brother of J. Robert Oppenheimer (light ‘em up, baby!)
Holidays occurring today:
Setsubun (Japan) – the traditional first day of Spring
Four Chaplain’s Day (United States) – commemorating the deaths of four US Army chaplains who gave their lives to save soldiers on the sinking USAT Dorchester during WWII
So, in short, a lotta shit happened on my birthday and I won't be getting drunk. But I already got some new earrings, so that's cool.

1. choose a few of your own characters. Five at the most.
2. make them answer the following questions.
3. tag people
Note: Please suspend your knowledge of the fact that Mimi can't speak English.
Characters:
Chaz - Pokemon Trainer, Not a Very Good Dietitian
Mimi - Lopunny, Impulsive
Chris - Pokemon Trainer, Master of Depression
Farah - Weavile, Twin, Supposedly the Quiet One
Lara - Weavile, Twin, Oversexed, Brash, Violent
Questions:
How old are you?
Chaz: Just a day away from nineteen.
Mimi: *looking away* Butterfly!...Oh, did we start? Seven.
Chris: Twenty-one. But these girls give me so much gray hair, you'd think I was fifty.
Lara and Farah: *simultaneously* Ten!
What's your height?
Chaz: I dunno, about five-eleven, I suppose. I don't really keep track.
Mimi: Chaz tells me I'm five feet tall. But his feet aren't that big, so I think it's probably more...What? Why are you all laughing?
Chris: Six feet.
Lara and Farah: *simultaneously* Three-six!
Are you a virgin?
Chaz: Only if my mom is the one asking the question.
Mimi: What are you talking about, Chaz? You know we're both not.
Chris: It's becoming increasingly difficult for me to remain that way.
Farah: *looking at Lara* It depends on what you mean by "virgin".
Lara: Yeah, what she said.
Do you have any kids?
Chaz: I really, really hope that's not possible.
Mimi: We'll discuss this later, you.
Chris: Didn't you read my answer to the last question?
Farah: Considering the way I've spent the last, I dunno, ten years of my life, I highly doubt it.
Lara: If we do, we've been going about this whole twincest thing all wrong.
What's your favorite food?
Chaz: Oh, man, has to be a nice, thick cheeseburger.
Mimi: Pecha berries! Well, that's not really my favorite food, but Chaz gets all embarrassed when I say what my real favorite thing to eat is. Or would that be a drink?
Chris: Eggs.
Farah: Mago berries.
Lara: Rawst berries.
What's your favorite ice-cream flavor?
Chaz: Chocolate.
Mimi: Strawberry! Ooh, ooh! With lots of sprinkles!
Chris: Mint.
Mimi: Oh yeah! And chocolate syrup!
Farah: I don't like ice cream.
Lara: She's lying. Our favorite flavor is vanilla. She just doesn't want Chris to think she's fat.
Have you killed anyone?
Chaz: If my mother found out about us, it'd probably give her a heart attack. Does that count?
Mimi: That's a horrible question! Why would I want to do that?
Chris: No, but I've thought about it.
Farah: I almost killed my sister one time...
Lara: I almost killed a nurse one time...
Do you hate anyone?
Chaz: My grandfather. He keeps trying to get me to send Mimi off to a breeder. He says that that's all female Pokemon are good for...
Mimi: Same answer.
Chris: Sometimes I hate myself.
Farah: No.
Lara: Not really.
Have any secrets?
Chaz: Screwing your Pokemon definitely qualifies.
Mimi: You didn't have to say it like that...
Chris: There's this girl I like, but if she found out it would be really bad.
Farah: I used to, but then Chris found out.
Lara: Wait, he knows?
Do you love anyone?
Chaz: I love Mimi, and I'm surprised that she still loves me after all of the times she's been in the hospital because of me.
Mimi: I love Chaz because he's always there when I wake up!
Chris: See my last answer.
Farah: It's complicated. I love my sister, but not the way that I used to. Now I love Chris, but I'm not sure if he loves me back.
Lara: I love my sister, but I'm not in love with her...Gosh, that makes me sound like a middle schooler...
What is your job?
Chaz: I'm a Pokemon Trainer, although I've been thinking about becoming a Coordinator.
Mimi: I keep Chaz happy! That's the best job in the world!
Chris: I'm a Pokemon Trainer, but sometimes I wonder if I'm really right for the job.
Lara and Farah: Our job is to keep Chris from jumping off a building.
Boy or Girl?
Chaz: What is this question asking? I'm male.
Mimi: Girl!
Chris: Boy.
Farah: Female.
Lara: Come and check for yourself, if you don't mind losing a testicle.
What do you do to relax?
Chaz and Mimi: Hehehe...
Chris: Contemplate my impending doom.
Farah: I don't think I can say that in a public setting.
Lara: Fine, I'll say it. I like to mast-OW! Farah, what was that for?
What do you think your life expectancy is?
Chaz: Probably about ninety or so. It's kind of depressing when I think about it.
Mimi: I don't know. But Chaz always seems really sad when I ask about it. He won't tell me why...
Chris: If I can survive myself, I'll probably live to be about eighty or so.
Farah: Should be about thirty or so.
Lara: I dunno. I feel pretty weak right now...Geeze, ease up, Farah, I was kidding.
What is your favorite song?
Chaz: "Lay Down" by Priestess
Mimi: "Suteki da ne" by Nobuo Uematsu
Chris: Anything by Linkin Park
Lara and Farah: Anything NOT by Linkin Park!

Stole this from

1) What was your FIRST video game console?
Game Boy Pocket (does that count as a console?)
2) Name a few games you played on said console.
Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball (still play that one), Star Wars, Pokemon Red and Blue, Donkey Kong, and a host of others.
3) Excluding handhelds, how many VG consoles do you own presently?
N64, PS2, GameCube.
4) Were you a Street Fighter nut? Any character in particular?
No, but I do appreciate Chun Li (*sideways glance*)
5) Do you think Capcom is an awesome company?
They gave me Megaman, so they're not all bad.
6) Here's the scenario.. You had some friends over and you all ate FRIED CHICKEN! After the meal you all decide to play some video games. As your friend reaches for a controller you notice his/her hands are very "greasy." Are you the type that would insist they wash their hands before pawing the controller, or is it no big deal?
Motherfucker needs to wipe his hands.
7) What's your favorite RPG/Action RPG? I will allow a second and third fave if you insist.
1. Pokemon Diamond
2. Lunar Legends
3. Breath of Fire
8) Do you prefer 2D games or 3D games?
No preference.
9) Are you an SNK fan?
No.
9) Are you good at DDR?
Yes.
10) Who wants to kick that dog's ass from Duck Hunt?
I haven't played it enough to work up the vitriol.
11) Have you skipped out on important events in life because of video games?
Yes.
12) Do you listen to video game music?
I've got the soundtracks to:
Ace Combat 4 & 5
Metal Gear Solid 3
Super Paper Mario
Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Red Alert 2, Tiberian Sun, Firestorm, and Yuri's Revenge
Katamari Damacy and We <3 Katamari
Half-Life 2
Halo & Halo 2
Final Fantasy X
Guitar Hero 1, 2, 3, and Rocks the 80s
Medal of Honor: Frontline and European Assault
I also have a bunch of DDR music sprinkled in, as well as both Black Mages albums and the Smashing...Live! CD that came free with Nintendo Power Magazine a few years ago.
13) Have you ever cosplayed a VG character?
Yeah, I dressed up as Snake for Halloween two years ago.
14) Have you ever been in an arcade playing a fighting game, KICKING ASS, and then some 6 year old asian kid comes in and OWNS YOU??
No, I've never played fighting games in arcades for that very reason.
15) Name three games you would love to see remakes of if it was done properly.
Pokemon Gold and Silver, Half-Life (I'm really looking forward to Black Mesa Source, and independent game rebuilt from HL2-level graphics), and Ocarina of Time.
16) Mario or Sonic?
Mario.
17) When a movie shows up in the theaters, let's use Spider-man as an example, are you likely to buy the GAME version?
No. Why the fuck would anyone do that?
18) What is your LEAST favorite genre of video games? (ex. fighting, sports, shooters, etc.)
MMORPG (or as Yahtzee would say, Mum-Mor-Pig-ers).
19) Is there a game out there that you feel was unique and didn't get enough love?
Sigma Star Saga for GBA.
20) Have you ever verbally abused a game because you couldn't beat one of the levels and/or bosses?
Yeah, that would be Perfect Dark. I love it to death but getting past Area 51 is like pulling teeth.
21) Do you own any VG apparel?
I had a Pokemon sweatshirt when I was in middle school, but other than that nothing.
22) What are your thoughts on the live-action Super Mario Bros movie?
I liked it, but because of the interaction between Mario and Luigi and not because it was true to the games.
23) On that note, what did you think about the live-action Street Fighter movie?
Bleh.
24) Who's hottest out of the KOF chicks?
Don't pay attention to those games.
25) Do you say "old-school" a lot when you're having a VG conversation with others?
Not really. I don't put a lot of emphasis on old-school (oh, fuck, I did say it) games because I think modern games have just as much merit, even if the quality level has dropped off a bit and great games are few and far between. But they do exist (Half-Life 2, Gears of War, and Final Fantasy X are just a few examples of the really good ones in recent years). And video game companies haven't forgotten old-school (oh, shit, I did it again, fuck), with games like Pokemon as evidence of that.
26) Have you ever lent someone a game and they returned it to you damaged?
Worse. I let my friend play my GBA on the bus one time and he lost my copy of Sigma Star Saga. Lucky I had already beaten it and gotten the best ending, or I would have been extremely pissed. I still jab him about it, though, and I'm still trying to decide if I should buy a new copy or not.
27) Do you own any imported games?
No, I'm pretty patient.
28) Are you ready for this meme to be over, or could you keep going?
I like memes. Let's rock.
29) In this scenario, let's pretend you're going to get a video game tattoo! What would you get and where?
I've actually decided that one of these days I will get a tattoo of the Selkie tribal emblem from Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles on my upper left arm.
30) Have you ever cried after you beat a game? If so why?
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The ending literally had me sobbing because it was so inspirational.

I stole this from practically everyone on FA.
Generally speaking, people tend to have a 'defining image' that comes to mind when they think of a particular artist. Maybe it's one you can relate to, maybe it's the image that first introduced you to their work, maybe you just feel it was their absolute best, so it sticks out in your mind. So when ever you think of a certain artist, this image pops to mind.
So, I am curious, which of my works comes to mind when you think or hear of me?
I'd also like to know why.

IN PROGRESS: Study Break (non-Pokémon FA exclusive)
CURRENT DISTRACTION: Pokémon Silver
Lord knows that chatting online has become popular in recent years, and for a while I was into it, but then I gave it up as demands on my time became more pervasive. But now I've bitten the bullet and reinstalled AIM.
If anyone's interested in chatting anytime, my screen name is the incredibly original, never-before-used, and totally inventive: CaptHavoc123
Not saying I'll be online very frequently, but it's a possibility that our paths may intersect every so often.

General | Posted 17 years agoApparently I just cracked the Top Ten Most Favorite Series on AGNPH. Not with General Havoc, as one might have expected, but with Tales of Two Lovers, made into a series scarcely a week ago.
I'm extremely flattered right now.

End of the Year Survey Thing
General | Posted 17 years agoJacked this from a close high school friend of mine on Facebook. He's studying abroad in Europe this year, so I don't hear from him much, and I couldn't resist doing this one:
I've been reusing this survey every year I've had a blog (including the one before this) to reflect upon the year. Lots of stuff happened in 2008 as opposed to 2007, so let us reflect in a non jibjab fashion.
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
I smoked a Cuban cigar. SHHH! Don't tell the feds!
2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Since my New Year's Resolution last year was to not smoke anymore, I'd say that one went right out the window. So it's my resolution for this year. Outlook is just as doubtful.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
America. (Fuck Yeah!)
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Pride in my country.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
November 4th. It was the first time I cried since three years ago, when my cat died (tears of joy this time, though).
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Making Dean's List for the fifth semester in a row.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Failing to complete my novel like I said I was going to last year.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got a cold a few times, had a killer ear infection, and then found out I needed glasses.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
New hard drive.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Barack Obama. Kept a level head and ran a clean (for the most part) campaign in one of the most heated presidential races in recent history.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The McCain supporters at McCain's concession speech.
14. There was never a question 14 in this survey.
This is quite true. He skipped it.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The presidential election.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
How Far We've Come by Matchbox Twenty.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
So much happier.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing on my novel.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Writing fanfics. I love it to death, but goddamn is it a time bandit.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent it at home with my family.
21. How will you be spending New Years Eve?
I spent it at home with my family.
22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
No, I remain in the same sad state of infatuation that I've been in for the last eight years.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Started off as COPS! but ended up as CSI.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I still hate the same people.
26. What was the best book you read?
Shooter by Jack Coughlin (a telling of the Iraq War from the point of view of the top-rated US Marine Corps sniper).
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Velvet Revolver.
28. What did you want and get?
A happy Christmas for the first time in a long time.
29. What did you want and not get?
An electric typewriter.
30. What was your favorite film(s) of this year?
Wall-E and The Dark Knight.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 20, and I honestly cannot remember what I did.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More money.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Khakis and graphic T-shirts with a sick awesome necklace containing a preserved beetle.
34. What kept you sane?
Writing.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you admire the most?
Barack Obama.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The election.
37. Who did (do) you miss?
My buddy across the pond and Bernie Mac.
38. Who were the best new person/people you met?
Tons of awesome people, mostly on-line, who keep me encouraged.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Gas is a good thing to have.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
When I'm tired and thinkin' cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes, and she slipped away...
Boston - More Than a Feeling

"Shouldn't You Be Finishing 'Therapy?'"
General | Posted 17 years agoYeah, I should, but that doesn't stop me from doing the occasional (read: hourly) meme.
0. What is your furry world like?
Put simply, it's our world with furries in it. Except we're in like the 24th Century, so the furries are actually an alien race from another galaxy.
1. Do humans exist in your furry world? If so, how do they treat/how are they treated by the furries?
Yes. They have been at war with each other for two centuries (since the 22nd century), but in my timeline the war has been over for five years, and things are kind of in an unsteady peace.
Although this pic shows that the relationship between some individuals is a bit better than the overall interspecies relationship (NSFW):
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1259758/
2. Do non-morphic animals exist in your furry world? If so, how do they treat/how are they treated by the furries?
Of course they do. They're treated about the same as they are now.
3. Do non-mammalian “furries” exist in your furry world? If so, how do they treat/how are they treated by the mammal-furries?
Yes, there's a race of amphibian aliens (think the Mutios from the anime Blue Submarine No. 6) and a race of insectoid aliens (picture a human-sized praying mantis). The amphibians and insectoids are both allied with humans, so they have the same tension between them and the furries. There's also a shapeshifting race that was in a war with humanity before the war with the furries, but are now also allied with humans. Although I wouldn't classify them as "furries" because they're overwhelmingly humanoid.
4. Do other mythological creatures (dragons etc.) exist in your furry world? If so, how do they treat/how are they treated by the furries?
No mythological creatures. This is sci-fi, not fantasy.
5. Does Magic operate in your furry world? If so, rate its frequency and power on a scale of 1 to 10. (the higher the rating the more common and/or powerful magic is).
No magic, but there is telepathy in the insectoid race and (as mentioned) shapeshifting in the humanoid race.
6. Describe the technology level of your furry world?
In a way it's like Star Wars-level technology, but only in some aspects. There's starships and hyperspace and such. Starship weapons are laser cannons and advanced missiles and energy shields, but infantry weaponry remains tanks, jet fighters, helicopters, and ballistic (bullet) weapons. There are still cars, but they operate on hover technology instead of today's internal combustion engines. I still haven't decided what fuel source is predominant, but I'm leaning towards hydrogen for personal transport and nuclear for mass space transport.
7. On a scale of 1 to 10 how animal-like are furries in your world? (the higher the rating, the more animalistic the furries in your world).
Geeze, I dunno...6 maybe? You tell me:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/440275/
That pic only applies for the furry furry species, of course. The humanoid species probably ranks a 2, and the insectoid race is definitely a 9 or 10. The amphibian race probably garners a 3 or 4.
8. How do the different furry “species” get along in your furry world?
Well, there's only the one truly furry species, and they get along fine with themselves.

Merry Christmas
General | Posted 17 years agoSo, apart from some shit going down on AGNPH that makes absolutely no sense, I'm having an outstanding Christmas so far.
My whole family is here, we've got some seriously good food, and I made a pear pie that it currently gone because we're all fatasses.
And tomorrow we wake up to sausage biscuits and the engorgement to commence with lunch.
Goddamn, I LOVE Christmas.

A Eulogy
General | Posted 17 years agoMy poor old Maxtor 300GB external hard drive decided to up and die yesterday.
Well, I say old, but the thing was aged barely a year and a half. They just don't make 'em like they used to. Luckily, I was able to find a brand-new Iomega drive of higher quality, higher storage, and lower price. Unluckily, the death means the loss of most of my writing.
In a stroke of genius on my part, however, I had the foresight to...foresee...this demise and moved all of my important stuff (writing, movies...porn collection...you know, the important things) onto my laptop's internal drive. So nothing of value was really lost except three years of college papers that I will never need again anyway.
But it is a bitch that I have had to spend nearly a hundred bucks to replace something that was advertised as lasting up to five years (and that was the pessimistic estimate!). That's what I get for buying the mid-range quality rated product (according to Consumer Reports). Here's hoping that buying the top-rated brand this time will pay off.
Now, if you need me, I'll just be over in the corner rocking back and forth, sucking my thumb, and praying for some Christmas money.
