✖ BOYCOTT STARBUCKS - On Strike! Join me! ✖
General | Posted 2 weeks agoHello, friends and mutuals!
A lot has happened since the last update on my job status.
As of November 4th, I have been officially reinstated into Starbucks through a very lengthy and frustrating run-around from HR and corporate telling me different, conflicting information about my severance, how to keep my tenure, and when and how I was allowed to return to Starbucks.
I was originally told that I would be paid severance until December 5th, and then within 30 days of that day, I could reapply to Starbucks and be reinstated at any store that is willing to hire me that has the capacity at their store to take me onto their team as a shift supervisor; keeping all my raises, benefits, tenure, etc.
I was then told 5 days into my severance that things changed, and that I could return to work as soon as THE NEXT DAY, but I did not get to choose what store, and I could not ask for more time to wait to start. I was also told that if I did not accept this offer, Starbucks would not go out of their way to help me be transfer/reinstated since I refused a job offer from the company despite being told I would be separated against my will, without the option to transfer to another location.
I declined this offer, and said I would reapply at a later date and take my time during my severance to reflect on the traumatic experience of how I was laid off so suddenly, and how it impacted my community, my fellow baristas, and myself.
I was then told a week later that things changed, again. My deadline to reapply was no longer 30 days after December 5th, but the deadline was pushed up to November 20th to reapply, or else I lose my tenure if I am not rehired by that day. This is understandably incredibly stupid, and robbed me of my security knowing I could be paid out fairly for being let go so abruptly. It instead pressured me to make a decision in such a short amount of time to return to work or lose out on the 5 years of tenure I had acquired, along with all my benefits, pay, awards, etc. Gone... No negotiating it.
I called Starbucks Partner Services in order to figure out why I could not reapply with the same email I had while employed, and why it was prompting to sign in with the employee portal, and couldn't actually reapply without running into this back-n-forth loop of "you must use an email" and then "this email is tied to a partner account, please use the login portal" and then "your numbers were either incorrect or an error occurred, please try again later" nonsense. When I finally got ahold of someone, they told me that I would be separated December 5th, which CONTRADICTS what my district manager had been telling me, so I called them, and they told me they'd escalate it to HR. A week goes by and I hear nothing back. Cool...
Obviously, I had to cave and make the choice to get rehired as soon as possible now that Starbucks was ONCE AGAIN forcing my hand and pressuring me to make a choice for THEIR benefit. Thankfully, every store manager in my district knows me from years of helping out at other stores from increased numbers of call-outs due to awful changes to Starbucks work culture and policies. I was also well-known for competing in the internal Starbucks Barista Championships, landing myself 2nd place in the quarter-finals and placing top-50 across the U.S. for barista champions. Needless to say, every manager wanted to hire me, and I was lucky enough that my manager from my previous store that got shut down was reassigned to a union store. You can imagine what happens next. She pulled some strings, and had me simply transferred into her store since I technically was still a part of the company and I DIDN'T HAVE TO REAPPLY like I was gaslit into believing.
My job is safe, and I now work at a unionized store!
As of now, it has been over 3 years since Starbucks stores have begun unionizing, and over a year since Starbucks last attempted to negotiate with unions for a contract. Over that time, Starbucks has committed HUNDREDS of union-busting practices, and been caught red-handed time and time again. The NLRA (National Labor Relations Board) has sided with Starbucks union (Starbucks Workers United) over and over again finding that Starbucks has in fact been found guilty of these violations over and over again, and has continued to do so despite being told over and over to stop.
For one example, you are required to work clopens if your shifts are 8 hours apart from each other. Which means if I close at 9PM, they can have me come in to work as soon as 5AM, and I can't complain about it or call out without protected sick pay or else be written up for insubordination for refusing to work a clopen. The company also gaslights you, saying they "don't schedule clopens because it is not a term used in our policy" as a means to bullshit their way around it and pressure you into caving into their shitty scheduling styles when stores don't have enough employees to work all day-parts all week long.
We are still scheduled with limited floors of people, sometimes skeleton crews, and are expected to find coverage on our own before a manager is supposed to step in and help even though that can be when the store is absolutely slammed and several call-outs occur within 2 hours of those shifts. You are also not allowed to clock in EARLY or LATE by 1 minute, you must clock in WITHIN THE 60 SECONDS OF THE MINUTE YOUR SHIFT STARTS. Meanwhile, Starbucks beverage quality standards say an espresso shot is allowed to sit on the bar for two minutes before it's considered "expired." Espresso shots are allowed to wait longer than I am allowed to clock in for work...
If your store managers chooses to work Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New-Years just so only they can earn a bonus for working a holiday, you MUST work a shift those days or you will most likely be terminated. We are not allowed to have protected days off, they are considered a "courtesy" and can be overwritten anytime managers deem it necessary for business. Your availability can also be ignored at any time for any reason, and there's virtually nothing you can do to protest against it when it happens if the "business needs" come first.
Needless to say, there is a LOT of unfair labor practices we are fighting against that NOBODY should have to work under, especially at a place like Starbucks that brags and claims to be a leading retail business that "sets the standard" for being "best in the industry" for employee benefits and working conditions, that they're "competitive" despite having policies that otherwise pressure and grind baristas into burn-out with unrelenting coaching, expectations and quotas to coach people at LEAST once a day, and that if it isn't done, you can be written up for not doing so as a shift supervisor. This creates a toxic work environment built around the concept of "policing quotas" that you won't ever be good enough, and that you are always being watched for mistakes. Creating this unrealistic expectation to be both perfect, and being told that nobody is perfect, and that you will have to be "coachable" despite the fact the mistakes you make are human and will happen again and will be scrutinized. Not because you might need it, but because your supervisors are required to or else face write-ups for not reporting on coaching performance.
Our CEO Brian Niccol makes over 6666% more money a YEAR than your hourly barista who earns an average of $15.50 per hour. To put it into perspective, he was paid $95.8 million dollars, plus a private jet paid for to commute to and from California to Washington WEEKLY for work. Starbucks claims they offer us a $30 benefits package starting day 1. Those "benefits" are things like 401k, stock-matching, donation-matching, Spotify, and plenty of other so-called benefits that are kind of the bare-minimum for decent jobs. Do you REALLY think I can afford 60% of my monthly income to rent? Do you REALLY think I can afford to partake in any of your stupid $401k bullshit when I can hardly make a living for myself??
I personally earn $25.94 an hour as a shift supervisor, 5 years tenured. My rent for my 1-bedroom 550sq. ft. apartment under AFFORDABLE HOUSING is $1650 a month before utilities and building services/fees. (I had to get a COSIGNER by the way, who earns over 5x MY MONTHLY RENT just to be able to sign the fucking lease. THAT'S INSANE!) My rent does not include my internet, my renters insurance, my car insurance, insurance premiums, deductibles when using any insurance, gas, car registration, food, personal care products... need I continue? My monthly take-home is roughly $2900-3100, that includes tips. If over $2000 is already gone by the end of the month, and my hours aren't guaranteed. I was lucky to get 32-35 hours average. I HAD TO PICK UP SHIFTS to earn close to 40 hours a week, and I do that REGULARLY to be able to take home $2900+ a month. It's exhausting having to sacrifice more hours of my day I didn't want to sacrifice, or sacrificing days I'm scheduled to have off work, just to come in to make enough to be able to afford saving a little money or spending it on things for myself from time to time.
Union stores make up 7% and growing of all Starbucks stores in the U.S. We will not stop, or back down, until we are treated better for the incredible amount of work asked of us from a company that thinks they owe us nothing more than a 2% "pay increase" in our contract. Over a hundred labor lawyers, and over 80 Democratic senators and house representatives have reached out to Starbucks in attempts to encourage them to return to negotiating in good faith, as well as shareholders.
That all being said... the unions will be going on strike indefinitely starting November 13th (tomorrow) and striking until Starbucks either comes back to the negotiation table and change their crappy 2% pay increase offer (which is the annual raise starting baristas get by the way) or else we will escalate the seriousness of our strikes and protests until Starbucks finally decides to take us seriously.
I ask everyone to please participate in these strikes in person, or in spirit, and to not purchase from Starbucks during these strikes. Please support local coffee businesses if you don't already do so, try making coffee at home in the meantime, and please spread the word! If Starbucks thinks they can just rob me of my store, my job, and my mental security of my life and only give me 3 days to say goodbye to it all before FINALLY telling me what happens to my job security and get away with it... they can go straight to hell.
The entire board and all the suits behind these union-busting practices. I will never go quietly, and neither will the rest of us who want to stand up for better rights for us you all deem so expendable in the bottom line. We earn your money, we do it by hand, we do it daily, and we do it despite all the bullshit you put us through, and you can't even give us a hand-up during the worst times this economy has seen in decades to show us you "care" about us.
For everyone who lost their jobs, their stores, their communities, felt burnout, felt left behind... I strike for them all.
No regrets, no fear; what else do I have to lose that they haven't already taken from me?
No contract, no coffee. Boycott Starbucks. Support unions. Support me.

✖ Laid Off From Starbucks - I Hope They Burn ✖
General | Posted 2 months agoIf anyone has been paying attention to the news as of late, you might have seen something about Starbucks laying off over 900 corporate employees, and closing over 400 stores across the U.S. that are either "not profitable" or "does not align with our goals to create the back-to-Starbucks cafe experience."
Unfortunately, my store was one of them.
My cafe had been around for the last two plus decades, serving many people from this community like retired firefighters, school teachers, nurses, and many families alike both old and new.
The announcement came the morning of September 25th, 2025. My boss, who was 3 days into her 10 day vacation to visit family out of the country, was first called to be informed of the news that her store would be closed before she returned home from her vacation, and that us on her team would be either transferred or separated. There was nothing she could do.
I was informed after my boss was, I was pulled aside by my district manager and otherwise asked if I had heard the news Starbucks announced that morning. I said yes, and she continued to explain to me that our cafe was selected to close by September 28th. September 27th would be our last day of operations. That's only two days to otherwise inform and say our goodbyes to our community that our store has been in service to for the last two plus decades.
Gone in the blink of an eye.
I was not ensured my employment would be secured, nor was I guaranteed at first that if I were to be separated and reapply, that I would be able to keep my tenure, raises, benefits, etc. I have been an employee for the last 4+ years, through COVID, and helped at over a dozen cafes in our district and in other states. I competed in an internal barista competition where I placed 2nd in the quarter-finals, placing in the top 50 baristas in the company across the U.S., and made quite the name for myself through my peers, leaders, and customers alike.
Despite all of this, I was not guaranteed anything, and was only told that the decisions would be announced of who was being kept, and who was being let go, on Sunday, September 28th, at 5:00PM.
On Sunday, our entire team was asked to come in at 7:00AM and help pack up our store; box up supplies, product, clean everything, etc. Essentially using us to wrap up our store and shut it down for good before any of us were told what would happen to us.
At 5:00PM, I was emailed the decision, and I was separated from the company after almost 5 years of service as a dedicated barista and shift supervisor. I would have hit my 5th anniversary on November 2nd, 2025, and received a commemorative glass+wood-carded/ornamented placard for my 5 years of employment, pins, and an increase in benefits/raises like a sabbatical. Some pretty nice stuff. The other two supervisors I work with were offered transfers, as well as a handful of our baristas. Our most tenured baristas were separated, two of which who had been with the company for several years, and one of which who was a black apron coffee master.
Despite my impact in this company, despite my accomplishments in the competitions as a barista champion, despite my impact in my community, my dedication to the craft of pursuing education in the industry and earning my black coffee master apron, it meant nothing to this company to keep me. Their handling of this entire situation is deplorable, and a shameful example of how corporate greed once again triumphs over the common working class.
Thankfully, with Washington State's WARN Act, I am guaranteed to be paid for the next 60 days for the average amount of hours I worked in my last month of employment, so I will be OK for the next two months. I was also not told that my tenure and benefits would be safe so long as I applied to be rehired within 30 days of my separation, which will go into effect some time in late-November.
So for three days, I had to essentially pack up my own cafe, say goodbye, and sit and wait and hope my job and financial security were safe, or that I'd be doomed to figure it out for myself and kicked to the curb with nothing but a severance package and no guarantee of returning to the company with the same pay, benefits, tenure, etc.
To say I am absolutely defeated is an understatement. This entire ordeal has been traumatic and dehumanizing; this company has little to no empathy for its employees who bring in the money, otherwise showing clearly that they think we are all just some replicable bunch of numbers on some spreadsheet. The damage they have caused to families, this community, and this company is irreversible. I only work in this company because of the people I get to work with, and the community I get to serve. This company can burn for all I care, but I will continue to put forth my heart and carry on in honor of all those who were lost along the way with all these sweeping policy changes, dramatic course-correcting, and "overhauling" this company thinks is all justifiable to let go of baristas that have dedicated themselves to this brand that was otherwise "inclusive" and "partner-first" when it came to their decisions and leadership. Our CEO is the 2nd most paid CEO in the country, on top of the fact that our company pays for his commute from Los Angeles to Seattle twice a week via Private Jet as part of his sign-on agreement, earns 6,666 times more than baristas do, and yet we get burned.
I hope that Starbucks burns more than the coffee beans they roast. Boycott Starbucks. Unionize.
I will be okay, but I wanted to let everyone know what happened and what my thoughts are on all of this.

A wonderful artist I look up to by the name of
Sazandora is currently going through an incredibly difficult situation right now. I understand many people in the community are struggling right now, but if you have any money to spare, even a few dollars, it would go a long ways for them. They've gone through living in their car for several months at a time, and while they keep up a good mindset about their current situation, they cannot keep living like this. Especially during the winter. There is more information about their current living conditions and affairs on their GoFundMe linked at the beginning of this journal. If you have anything at all to spare, it would be a tremendous help. For those who cannot, even sharing their GoFundMe, this journal, or signal-boosting yourself also goes a long ways.
Even if you can't donate or don't feel comfortable creating your own signal boost, at least read their story and understand the struggles this man has had to make. It crushes my heart someone as kind and as talented as this artist has to go through such turmoil. It would mean the world to them and myself. Thanks.

Transfering ownership of my sergal Cicero Morium!!!
General | Posted 5 years agoHello again, friends and mutuals!
I'd like to announce that my sergal character Cicero Morium is being transferred over to my good friend Ketamulli on Twitter as the new owner of the character.
I'm confident it will be a better home for the character. <3

Normally I do not publicly celebrate my birthday... >>;;
But after the number of friends I've made who remind me to appreciate life and the joys it has to offer, I felt obliged to share.
So for the first time since I was 16, I'm publicly announcing that today,
May 6th,
is my birthday! O:
Thank you to everyone who's watched my back, stuck by my side, and for being awesome dorks, mutuals and friends alike. <3
And thank you to everyone who waited until midnight, or messaged me yesterday, to tell me Happy Birthday. Hahah!
You are all such wonderful people that I am so glad I have gotten to know, and maybe have yet to get to know! :D
Let's all kick ass and chew bubblegum together, eh? xD
Much peace and love from your friendly neighborhood fluffshark,
- Carbon Klex <3

Not much I have to say other than a simple thank you.
Carbon's creation was always something special to me.
I'm glad that many of you feel the same.
You can certainly expect more of him in the near future.
I have a small queue of art to upload still.
I do have some surprises in store.
The surprise includes an updated appearance.
Hopefully you'll all like it.
Also, half tempted to not upload any NSFW art due to so much controversy.
I've had really lame history with friends and fans getting angry or jealous about prior agreements, etc.
If everyone can't let me take it easy about getting NSFW art with others, then I don't plan on doing it.
Never experienced more toxicity in this fandom by friends and mutuals than I have dealing with pr0n.
TL;DR:
Thanks.
Expect more stuff.
Don't expect NSFW anytime soon, to be further decided.
Have a wonderful day.
Want to meet me at BLFC? Here's some INFO!
General | Posted 6 years agoAfter some miracle of string-pulling, I've managed to plan a trip to BLFC again this year.
I stole this from
Varon >:P
What day are you getting there? And when do you leave?
- I'll be there midday on Wednesday and leave sometime midday Sunday.
How are you getting there?
- Riding up in a car with a friend.
Where are you staying?
- The GSR.
Who will you be rooming with?
-
Galaxia22 &
Jetshark
What is your gender?
- Male
Can I talk to you?
- Fuck yeah.
Can I hug or snuggle you?
- I don't mind hugs, but please introduce yourself first. Better know me pretty well if you dare to ask to snuggle. >:P
Can I look/draw in your sketchbook?
- Ain't got one.
Where will you be most of the time during the day/s?
- Not sure, no plans made. Probably wandering, possibly the Nevada Room.
What is the best way to find you?
- Telegram; also the easiest way to find me is to keep an eye out for a guy with a BIG mohawk! I also wear checkered shoes/belt/backpack!
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
- Shout my name! Easy. And for the love of god, PLEASE do not poke me in the side to get my attention; I don't wanna hit you by accident!
Are there any panels you might be attending?
- No clue. I'd love to figure out which are worth attending tho.
Do you drink?
- I can now; but pleeease respect my choice if I decline a drink.
Do you party?
- I am capable of it. Lmao
Can I join you for breakfast/lunch/foods?
- Sure, just let me know ahead of time.
Can I visit your room?
- Maaaaybe? Probably. It's on a case-by-case basis most likely; ask and I'll let you know.
What are your goals for the con?
- Meet all the faces I met last year, AND all the countless more that I missed from late planning!

✖ I Now Have a Twitter :P ✖

So, I originally created this Twitter account to chase off a user stealing my character and passing it off as an RP character.
Within minutes of making my account, making a single tweet, and following the user, their account was deleted before I could reach out to them.
Whoever you are, I wish you just listened to my friends when they asked you to stop using my art.
Thanks, I guess, for persisting for over a year for me to finally have to create a Twitter account to get your attention to delete my content.
Anyways, anyone else interested in following me, or want to make sure that you know of my official handles...
You can find it here:
https://twitter.com/CarbonKlex
Anyone is welcome to follow, though I dunno how active I will be on it.
I suppose we shall see...
