General | Posted 15 years agoCOMMENT AND I'LL:
1. Tell you something I'll learn about you by looking at your FA page for 13 seconds.
2. Tell you which color you remind me of.
3. Tell you my first memory of you.
4. Tell you what pokemon you remind me of.
5. Ask you something I've always wondered about you, and your answer has to be as vague as possible to keep the suspense.
6. Tell you my favorite thing about you.
7. Give you a weird nickname
8. Tell you what's on my shirt right now.
9. Challenge you to post this on your journal.

cyiakanamiHow did you find me?
General | Posted 15 years agoI hope to post some more artwork soon, but before then, I'd like to know how you managed to find me and why you thought I was interesting enough to watch.
For evidence that I'm close to posting more artwork, I finally found out where they hid the "Indirect Lighting" button in Blender 2.53 beta, and managed to create a glowing cube.
It's not much to look at, but it demonstrates just how powerful Blender is.

General | Posted 15 years agoStores can be dangerous places to visit.
As different people have different kinds of dangerous stores to visit, so do I.
For instance, my family finds book stores a little dangerous, especially if they happen to carry books on topics we're interested in.
Another example would be my dad and I, as we find writing implement stores a little on the dangerous side.
(once I purchased a Zebra F-301 Compact pen, and I now keep it in my pocket so I'm never without one. And this after I have at least two pencil boxes full of pens and pencils!)
My brother and I find computer game stores a touch dangerous, especially when there's something we want for a really good price.
(in my case: Team Fortress 2 and Portal for $9.99 each, LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for $19.99, any Myst game I don't have for $9.99 or so, and so on)
In this particular instance, I wandered into a GameStop store looking for nothing in particular save for anything interesting for the PC.
(we don't have any modern consoles, so that rather severely limits my range of options)
A while ago, my brother had bought a copy of the original LEGO Star Wars I game, and I got to play it a little bit with him and rather enjoyed it, hence why I bought myself a copy of LEGO Star Wars II.
This time, I found a copy of LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga for $19.99, which was a pretty good price to my mind (especially as it was the first time I ever saw it and had enjoyed the other instalments as well), plus the graphics looked much improved even over The Original Trilogy.
So now that I've played it about 30% of the way through (yes, it tells you how done you are), I have to say that yes, it is a little different, but it's (usually) a rather enjoyable different.
(the only thing that's more annoying is trying to find the Invincibility brick. I can't really play well enough to leave Invincibility off, so I have to find it first)

LEGO Star Wars II
General | Posted 15 years agoYup, once I get back from "work" (delivering newspapers), I'll be popping my disk for LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy in the drive, pick up my gamepad, and have fun blasting the Empire into little tiny LEGO bits.
My brother originally introduced me to the LEGO Star Wars games, as he picked up a copy of the first one and seemed to have fun playing around with it.
I love how you can have one or two players in drop-in/drop-out cooperative play.
(whichever character is not controlled by a player gets controlled by a simple computer AI, which occasionally means that you have to blast through them to get a stormtrooper on the other side of him...)
I have played it all the way through before, but it's just so much fun to play it through again that I've played it through two or three times.
Though I can only play it when I have time...
Currently, I'm trying to get two million studs (the in-game currency) so I can buy the Double Stud unlock, which will double the number of studs I get in levels.
(one of the very first unlocks I bought was Invincibility. It's almost mandatory, and it also prevents you from losing studs if you fall off an edge)

Dangnabbit!
General | Posted 15 years agoI found an author here on FA a week or two ago that wrote a fascinating story based off of Nintendo's Starfox games.
They took the story from one of the games and gave it an intriguing twist, then started following what would happen afterwards.
I think I watched her, and might have even added one or more of her stories to my favourites list, but now I can't seem to find them again.
I'm running through my entire watch list (over 150 people!), and so far, nothing has shown up.
What I'm concerned about, however, is :userbluwulf:.
This person seems to have abruptly dropped off from FA, deleting their entire gallery and all their journals, leaving behind absolutely nothing to identify them.
Now, I'm sad when anybody leaves, but I'm saddened that they didn't even leave a message as to why they left, and sadder still that even went so far as to take everything they ever posted down.
I also have a favourite in my list that has been deleted by the artist, so I think it's possible that they are the person responsible for writing that wonderful fan-fiction that I enjoyed so much.
Does anybody have an idea as to who wrote a story such as this?

Greater Vancouver Zoo trip
General | Posted 15 years agoSeveral friends from the US and Germany were in the area over the weekend, so I got hang out with them for a day or so.
We managed to go out for Mongolian Barbecue, take night time skyline pictures, visit the Greater Vancouver Zoo, have burgers, then doughnuts.
I wish it had lasted longer... -.-
Anyway, I've started to post some of the pictures I took at the Greater Vancouver Zoo on my DeviantArt gallery:
http://carlfoxmarten.deviantart.com.....ouver-Zoo-2010
It will take some tweaking to get the night time skyline pictures up to a high enough quality that I'll want to post them, mostly as my hands were not all that steady and couldn't use the flash for image stabilization...

Scrabble-like game...
General | Posted 15 years agoI found a Scrabble-like online game called Popotamo.
It's rather different, so I highly recommend reading the entire Help page before playing so you get an idea as to how the game works.
You don't get an infinite amount of tiles, and it's not turn-based.
Instead, you can play your tiles as soon as you have them, and you have to "pay" for more tiles with "action points" (which you get at a rate of once a minute).
Also, you only get to hold up to six tiles to start, but can purchase extra tile space with points you earn from winning games.
Initially, each tile costs 20 action points, but can purchase "coupons" (of a sort) to drop the cost.
You can also buy other powers, such as recycling single tiles, sneaking a peek at the tiles an opponent has, and other useful things.
The games take a fair stretch of time to play, but not much time at a given stretch.
I usually wait until I have a full rack of tiles before playing them, as you get more points the more tiles you place at once.
(so, at 20 action points a tile, and 6 tiles for a full rack, that's 120 minutes, or 2 hours between full racks. Buying upgrades will change the length of time)
Anyway, I've been having a lot of fun playing it, so I thought I'd pass it along.

Possible revenue stream?
General | Posted 15 years agoAt present, I watch about 120 people here on FA, and most of the people who post the most are artists who can be commissioned to draw artwork for you given some reference pictures or the occasional detailed description.
I also noticed that most of said artwork don't usually include backgrounds, or the artists aren't very happy with the way they drew their backgrounds.
Further, I noticed that most of the artwork I have here on FA (and if you want to look elsewhere, on my DA site) is actually backgrounds, and many of them would (if I ever actually finish them) work quite well as backgrounds for commissions.
So, I see two options for myself (three if you count doing nothing, which I'm going to ignore for now):
1) Sell permission to other artists for the use of my imagery for the intent of using it in commissions and charging maybe five to twenty dollars for their use (each time preferably).
2) Get my artwork act together (which means learning to draw better than I do now, which isn't very well) and create 3D backgrounds as I've been doing so far, which you can download for free as desktop backgrounds as is, or sell people's characters drawn into the image for maybe twenty to thirty dollars each, which the commissioner can do whatever they like with.
On the whole, both options seem like rather good ideas, though to keep expectations to a reasonable level, I don't want to allow commissioners (mine or those that buy from artists who buy from me) to dictate new backgrounds and only choose those I've done already.
(this would be to keep everyone fairly happy with the amount of time taken to complete a commission, as it can take a fairly long time to create one of these backgrounds, especially if it's to be commission-quality)
Any comments or questions?
(I'll eventually post this to my DA journal and my LJ so more people can provide their opinions)

Is it the right place?
General | Posted 15 years agoSo, I noticed the changes to the Terms of Service here, as well as the primary aim of this site, and then I looked at my submissions (few as they are), and noticed that most of what I do is 3D architecture.
I've not yet advanced to the level of skill required to do any character art, furry or otherwise.
Most of my artwork you can find on my DeviantArt page:
http://carlfoxmarten.deviantart.com/
So, for those of you who care, when I create more imagery in my usual vein of artistic works, should I post them here?

General | Posted 16 years agoI suppose I should get out there and get some more artwork done to post up here sometime soon.
However, it'll probably have to wait until after January 5th, as that's when I have to present a major rendering project that I've barely started.
My assignment was to render some scene as realistic as possible, given a photograph to work from, so I chose one of the buildings on campus, as I had a high-resolution picture to work from, and have easy access to the environment for measurements and stuff.
Aside from all that, does anybody (who reads this and happens to care) have any suggestions for a scene to create? I'm a little stumped for ideas right now...
