dariusleogator, and Avi for helping me when I lost steam two months agoUPDATE: Financial Emergency
General | Posted 2 years agoThe good news is I should be OK until payday next weekend! I cannot thank
ignisryder and Avi enough for their help, as well as my friend
dariusleogator for signal-boosting me. I told Ignis and Avi I would repay them as soon as I could. You can also find Darius on Patreon, Twitch, and Piczel!
So how did I get myself into this mess? I was too focused on student loans and got carried away with commissioning artwork as birthday gifts to myself. I got so far ahead with the former, in fact, that I wouldn’t be required to make another payment until February of next year. As for my birthday, I couldn’t do much in the middle of a blizzard, though lots of snow was one of my wishes. That's why I've decided to take a much-deserved breather from both.
I also feel so silly for having only a checking account since age 18, but I’m glad I finally opened PayPal Savings now and not later. My mentor recommended it so I could slay my student loans for good come next year. If our twenties is “the party of our lives,” then we should celebrate what we learned so our thirties can be the after-party or new game plus we want them to be. There were plenty of choices I regret, as far back as childhood even, but what’s life without learning?
For now, I’ll return to writing my Year of the Dragon TF story based on this artwork I got myself for my last birthday!

I Disabled Shinies (CW: Abuse)
General | Posted 2 years agoHello again,
I'm writing this to announce that I have disabled Shinies. I never should've pressured my watchers or any visitor to my page into wasting their hard-earned money in this economy on a guy who moved back in with his parents after college, whom he didn't realize until his early twenties they abused him physically and emotionally since childhood, just to pay his stupid student debt so he could save up to move out. No one donated, thankfully, because I did this to myself and I must live with the consequences.
Thanks for reading,
Griffon

Fan Mail #7
General | Posted 2 years agoY'all, it's been a long time coming! Allow me to set the scene...
I was viewing an art piece posted during Pride Month by
tsaiwolf, one of my favorite artists. It was a "redux" as Tsai felt it wasn't finished originally and they wanted to redo the lighting, plus they added Blaidd from Elden Ring because why not? More seriously, however, Tsai wrote candidly in their description about the turbulence facing the queer community for the past few years before apologizing "for the PSA." Hell, I couldn't work shifts this past Pride Month without hearing customers whine or snicker about our modest merchandise and one such customer leaving abruptly after they interrupted my sales pitch to ask, "Did you say 'Pride?'" It's all incredibly stupid and disheartening, but I made it my mission to protect my workplace and no one defaced our display like at Target. In fact, I mentioned the store chain in a comment as a fresh example of right-wing terrorism, their plan B when boycotts fail, against all things queer.
I got this smooth-brained response four months later:
I can tell you were born after 2001 just from that sentence alone. Complaining about rainbow underwear at Target is a little silly, yes, but terrorism? Do you even know what that word means? The fact that you see some people who disagree with you over a bill that reads "18 or older" and think it's akin to a mass tragedy says more about you and your naïve beliefs than anything else.
So let me get this straight (pun absolutely intended): this invertebrate basically said "it's bad, but not that bad" before mustering what few IQ points they could scrape from the bottom of their skull to justify homophobia because they think Pride merch is pretentious. I replied swiftly with citations not to persuade them, but to show others how this user never cared about the facts.
I don't know about you, but I remember multiple idiots on social media who shared the same sort of bio while not practicing what they preached. "If you're reading this, I made you mad and you're looking for ammo to use against me," or shorter depending on character limits. I don't need to write so on my socials like FA because "Indict Trump and the insurrectionist GOP" repels idiots just fine, but I don't expect it to be 100% effective. That's why I wasn't surprised to read a notification that the same guy commented on my journal about Ethan is Online's video on modern art, claiming they watched it and their only takeaway was it "demonize valid criticism," but not without hiding their first comment like a coward.
Or, you know, it's just that most reasonable people simply see it as pretentious nonsense with no real effort put in. This whole "modern art" trend is probably the most blatant example of the emperor's new clothes in existence right now. Can we please stop pretending that someone taping a banana to a wall is on the same level of talent and creativity as Michelangelo? If you're looking for real art, there are plenty of examples right here on this website with images that show their value through their attention to detail, whether it's just commissioned character sketches done over a weekend or complete digital art pieces with months of work behind them. You can't blame people for getting angry when someone tells them that dumping a bunch of empty cardboard boxes on the floor is somehow just as valid and deserving of praise. It's insulting to people who actually try.
This isn't even about politics. You're just so indoctrinated by this culture war obsession of yours that you think everything has to be about "the left" or "the right" instead of real life experiences. Consider seeking out content creators beyond the BreadTube bubble. I almost went down the same radicalization pipeline back when I used to watch The Young Turks and Cult of Dusty several years ago during my "done with Christianity" phase. I snapped out of it when I realized I was just being spoonfed biased talking points and not actual facts. It's honestly terrifying to think that if I hadn't decided to start thinking for myself, I probably would've ended up like you.
Whew, they're worse than I thought. This is what people mean when they say "touch grass," but not only in the sense of taking a good break offline or enabling parental controls on big brats like this guy. Going to art museums or arthouses in person is a vastly different experience to consuming art through a biased commentator on a screen with only so many pixels and without learning about the art itself. I even shared a fact I learned from the video that Vincent Van Gogh's view from inside an asylum inspired him to paint The Starry Night, though the village in it wasn't real. Also, remember when they whined about "SoMeOnE tApInG a BaNaNa To A wAlL?" That was by Maurizio Cattelan, whose work is generally tongue-in-cheek. I also let them have another hard pill to swallow from the same video: they allowed their frustration with understanding modern art make them think they're being scammed, not allow themselves to embrace and understand their feelings with the art.
Of course, they didn't like that.
You completely missed my point. This is FurAffinity, an art website, yet you're telling people to "touch grass and go to an art gallery" as if the artwork we make isn't "real" art because we prefer concrete objectivism over amorphous excuses for low effort.
In actuality, art is supposed to be self-explanatory, conveying its deeper meanings through the subjects depicted, not explained away through endless third-party speculation. For example, pretty much any drawing on this website makes it easy to tell at a glance that the characters involved are meant to represent their creators in one way or another. Now let's look at Bridge by Robert Ryman. What's the meaning there? Is it meant to be abstract, minimalist, or a parody of the current state of the art industry? No one really knows, and when it's all said and done, it's ultimately just white paint on a board. If you can't instantly understand and connect with something when you see it because there's just not enough effort put into the source material to work with, should it really count as art? This isn't about some secret political agenda to oppress people. It's about what actually makes art special.
It was at this point I was talking to a brick wall and left them to seethe without a word. I'm all good, though! I'm just amused they went to unnecessary lengths to justify terrorist threats against Target's Pride wear and the appropriation of art. If you ever stumble upon anyone like this on any social platform, block them unless you know how to push their buttons. Until next time, call a spade a spade, enjoy breaks offline, and celebrate queer pride year-round!

REQUIRED VIEWING: "You're Wrong About Modern Art"
General | Posted 2 years agoI cannot recommend Ethan is Online's video, "You're Wrong About Modern Art," enough!
My takeaway from it is how the right's resentment of modern art is no different to their saying, "We can always tell," as a statement of intent, not fact, because they need it to be stupidly easy for them to oppress who they want dead and what they don't like. They need to attach a concrete definition to art itself and a group of people--queer people especially--when they can't truly fit complex and amorphous topics into single pre-fabricated molds.
Please watch Ethan's video whenever you can! It's awesome!

General | Posted 2 years agoAfter receiving my finished commission by
grumpy-floof the other day, I was excited to share it on Discord. I felt so happy to see my friends and fellow members alike loved Grumpy's work on Lani, my trans lion OC. One of the servers I shared my commission in was owned by
cureboltium, one of my favorite artists. I wanted to know what other members thought this morning, but my post was nowhere to be found and I figured I'd simply ask:
Griffon the Grizzly Today at 10:03

Not relevant to this Discord.
I was puzzled as to what line I crossed, and whether others crossed it before or I was singled out. The conversation went as follows:

Okay, then may we discuss this via direct message?
Cureboltium Today at 13:37
No.
At this point, I was just disappointed he refused to explain what I had done wrong because I strive to be a responsible member of every community I'm in, to understand fully what is and is not allowed. If Cureboltium provided a list of rules in his server and specified he wasn't comfortable with trans characters, then so be it, but his expectations and even his content preferences seemed nonexistent in his Discord. Not only is it damning to lack outlined rules and delete whatever you don't like without informing your members, but it's just as suspect that someone like Cureboltium continued to double down when I pressed him for providing vapid responses as to why he deleted my commission, likely due my OC being trans. It's odd given he drew a male cowtaur for
gigaguess almost a decade ago.
Am I advising you to block Cureboltium on FA, Discord, Twitter, SubscribeStar, etc.? No, that's your right alone.
Am I condoning you to flood his platforms with hate? Of course not.
His actions were his own and his pussyfooting left me no choice but to speak out.
Again, being in your favorite artist's Discord is like being roommates with your best friend: you'll learn what they're truly like. I said this before about
kartos's Bara Tower and
kitsunewaffles-chan's Discord, and Cureboltium is no exception here.
I don't want to end this on a sour note, so please consider commissioning
grumpy-floof for a Pride YCH while you still can! For every one person who may smear yours as "not relevant" because they're afraid to admit their transphobia, there are many more people who will love it as much as you do because NO ONE CAN STOP PRIDE.

Heard-Depp Defamation Trial Concerns
General | Posted 3 years agoTo reiterate what I revealed a year ago, I'm a survivor of abuse. This trial may discourage more survivors to speak out and encourage more abusers to sue their victims in US states they never lived at the county level which allows public streaming with authorization from a judge. Remember this was a defamation case, not a criminal one, but it was still reduced to trash TV thanks to trolls and Republicans on social media. Society was shaped by abuse and abusers have actively been reinforcing the status quo throughout the trial.

General | Posted 3 years agoSomeone I follow here on FA shared their opinion about the Will Smith-Chris Rock slapping incident in a journal:
WARNING: Unpopular opinion ahead! You've been warned.
While I don't condone Smith's actions, for certain he could've handled things better, but, for fuck's sake, it was just a slap! People be acting like the man up and beat the shit outta Rock. Chris Rock has always had a sharp mouth, and I'm surprised it hasn't gotten him slapped, before. His joke was below the belt and he got what he deserved, for it. Smith has since apologised for his actions, twice, clearly showing remorse.
What has Rock's response been? Silence.
Once again, the instigator gets off scott free.
Now what to unpack? A slap is still assault (some have even claimed Will acted in "self-defense") and, given the rawness of the moment, Will's behavior was unpredictable to Chris. Also to say the latter "got what he deserved" and defend the former's actions are to reinforce toxic masculinity. Chris has responded and even then he's still processing the situation. I don't need to say the author of that journal is framing Chris as the villain, but what consequences would the Academy really impose on him compared to Will's potential for suspension or expulsion? Risk-taking is central to comedy and Jada's condition unbeknown to Chris only raised the risk.
As for Will's acceptance speech, there were red flags from his self-aggrandizing to using domestic abuser lingo (i.e., "love makes you do crazy things"). In fact, he was given short of six minutes to speak onstage after he assaulted Chris, whereas VFX artists and other crew members who dare protest unfair working conditions in the industry have their mics cut instantly.
