True Gamers
Posted 12 years agoI am a gamer.
This statement is said by a lot of people and understand by a very few. At least in my eyes.
I am a gamer. I enjoy computer games, console games, Pen and Paper RPGs, Card games. You name it.
Being part of the gamer community, like any other community, makes you see the bad side as well as the good. By the bad side I mean the overly competitive, plays for only their enjoyment, types. These are the types that yell out profanities, in real anger, when losing. They are the types that call people bad or tell them they shouldn't play because they are not good at a game.
Then you have what I like to call "True Gamers". These are the people that play games just because they want to. They enjoy the game for what it is. Whether it be the ultra gritty and realistic FPS with tons of blood or the silly antics of card games like Munchkin. They play for fun and want to see the other people having fun as well.
Games are played for fun and enjoyment. Not something to get angry about just because someone is better or luckier than you. Yes, we all get frustrated or annoyed when nothing is going our way. On the flip side though we tend to get over joyed when things run perfectly. These are normal but you still have to understand that it changes nothing in your real life. No one is paying you to beat someone else in this game, gambling games are not part of this discussion.
Anyway, let me know your thoughts or feelings on the subject.

Couple of things
Posted 12 years agoFirstly, my buddy
Jerome-Kai has started up a Youtube video series. His first video is about Bullying and Bronies. Check out his Youtube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCex.....dTCYtQrfncV4zQ
Secondly, at work we are doing a training and one of the things we need to do is an online course that tells us if we are sexist, racist, homophobic, ect ect. I have not done it myself yet but I was watching one of my co-workers take the Sexuality part of the test. One of the question was "I can tell immediately if my throat is dry". Another was "I can feel my heart beating in my chest". To me these seem utter stupid and I am right now refusing to take the test. I may be narrow minded but can someone please explain how a dry throat and how feeling your heart beat are suppose to determine sexuality?

Popularity by the Numbers
Posted 12 years agoThis is something I have noticed that has been going on for a long time but never really thought about til tonight.
While hanging out with
chazzfox, we were watching Cold Case and she was browsing Tumblr. She had made a comment about how two more people were following her. This is not a bad thing but it did get me thinking.
Over the years as people have had easier ways of connecting and communication there has been a small group of people. Well maybe not small but I tend to ignore these types. They base how good there life is off of followers/viewers/people that pay attention to them. It happens on here, Facebook, MySpace, Youtube, Tumblr and any other similar site where a person can keep count on how many people are watching them.
It just blows my mind that someone puts a value on their life by the amount of attention they get from complete strangers that never talk to them. Never comment on their stuff. Never communicate with them in any other for them click one little button.
I know it is rare but I have heard stories of people abandoning their real life friends for these faceless internet people. They leave behind the people that are physically there for them. The people that want to hang out, talk with them, be their friends.
While I write this I do remember it is not just on social sites. It is in MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) games as well. I know one person who will read this that can relate. The same thing applies.
I highly doubt anyone who reads this is anything like the people I have described. You may know someone though. Encourage them to turn the computer off and get away from it for a while. Get them some damn sunlight and some food besides Mountain Dew and chips.

It finally happened
Posted 12 years agoWelp. I finally forgot about a job.
Even after talking about the transport I had today I completely forgot about it. I did have a few other things on my mind but that is really no excuse for forgetting about it. Tomorrow I will probably hear about it and get a slap on the wrist. Of course in all the years I have been working there this is only the second or third time I have forgotten about a job.

Why I hate Kids!
Posted 12 years agoThis came up yesterday.
As some of you know I work for a law enforcement agency. Sometimes the job requires us to transport kids from one location to another. The details beyond this are not important.
Normally I do not mind doing these transports. It is an easy hour of pay for hardly any work. Well this day I had two kids. One age five or six and the other was three. This particular story is about the 5 year old. I have transported these kids quite a few times over the past year. They knew me well.
Today they decided to start acting up. A song came on the radio I did not like and they didn't want to listen to the new one. Ok, fine. I switch it again and the five year old tells me she like this song. I have not heard it before and ask her the name of the song. She says she cannot tell me.
At this point is when it really starts. I ask her while she cannot tell me. The usual answer a kid will give. "I just can't." This type of answer irks me a bit. I do not like a none answer which is what she just gave me. No I do not care of it is "a kid being a kid."
I ask her if she can't tell me because she doesn't know it, which is what I suspect is really the truth. "I KNOW IT! I JUST CAN'T TELL YOU!" she screams from right behind my seat. I HATE being yelled at. I ask her why she can't tell me and her answer is so freaking abstract and out there I know it is a blatant lie.
"Zach told me I could not tell you or else I won't see him at the ice cream place and get ice cream with him"
WHAAAAAAT!?!?!?!?
I done. I am fucking done. I have one more transport with these kids on Thursday and that will be the last time I will be around them. Other kids are fine. These two drive me up the fucking wall. They don't stay in their seats properly, don't listen when I ask them not to yell. In general they are pains in the asses.
And this is why I do not like and do not want to have kids.

Poor grammar and spelling
Posted 12 years agoThis is a bit of a rant journal.
I understand that in this day and age the way we use language has evolved, and I personally believe not for the better. Texting via cellphones is one of the fastest, easiest, and most reliable ways to communicate with friends. The problem being is the limited amount of letters/characters each message can hold.
To overcome this problem we have started using letters and numbers in place of real words. "U" for you, "r" for are, and "2" for to and too. While I do understand using these in a text message to help save space and even money, as some plans make you pay per message, it has no place on a computer.
There is no word limit and even spellchecker SHOULD help you fix your words. Alas, even these go ignored as people ignorantly continue to butcher a language that is already butchered from it roots. I know I do not have the best spelling or grammar but at least I make an effort to fix my mistakes.
People these days are lazy and they misspell words, leave words out, and in general just don't care about looking like fucking morons. This is not about people that are just learning the language but about the ones that grew up around it. The ones that, from birth, have been hearing it and learning it in school. There is no excuse for you to be that fucking lazy when typing on a computer. STOP IT!
Also, new words that replace old ones that really do not make anything easier. I see "fee-fees" as a replacement for "feelings" all the time. I know it is meant to be in a condescending tone but still....it makes you look like an idiot.
I guess baby talk would fall under this as well, but to a lesser extent. In the years I have been a furry and chatted with many people I have, of course, run across baby-fur/cubs. The only thing that really bugs me about talking with a few from that group is the speech. "pwease" and other such words drive me up the wall.
I tend to give one warning that I will not talk to someone if they cannot talk to like an adult and if they continue I am done. I am 29 years old. I am not about to put up with someone around my age or old acting like a child and asking me to be their "mommy" or "sissy/sister"
End of rant.

Orange is the new Black
Posted 12 years agoWhile eating dinner tonight with
we started a new show that was made for Netflix called "Orange is the new Black". It is about a woman who is going to prison for 15 months for a crime she commited 10 years ago and which the statute of limitation is 12 years.
It shows some of her time in prison and some of her life before hand but leading up to it.
It seems rather interesting though the amount of breasts that get shown is surprising.
Anyway. I recommend giving it a shot if you aren't scared of some boobs.

Anthrocon
Posted 12 years agoWell we will be headed out shortly to start this 10 hour drive. Last year it went pretty quickly since we talked the entire way. I foresee the same this year. Should be arriving roughly around 5pm tonight. I. Time to suit up and go watch the fireworks.
See you all there.
See you all there.
Shujin Tribble Events
Posted 12 years agoThis is a repost for
ShujinTribble I hope some of these events turn out good.
This journal will cover my PERSONAL events for AC2013. If you have an interest in ANY of these events, PLEASE-PLEASE-PLEASE... Re-blog / re-post / tweet / Facebook / G+ / Tumblr the hell out of this journal. (Normally I do not ask for attention - but this is one of those times I would ask it.)
FURRY FEMME SHOOT
Continuing the tradition of getting the female character suits away from the general populous, I will be bringing all my photography equipment again this year.
When: Friday July 5th from 9.30pm - ???
Where: Convention Center Third Floor - Opposite end of the hallway from "Spirit of Pittsburgh" Ballroom. (Same as previous years)
Who: All Female-Character Fursuits are welcome to participate in the shoot, along with their assistants / handlers, of course.
The shoot will begin with individual shoots for the early participants. Naturally pairings or triples are fine too. Once we have all the participants together I will get several group shots as well. Plan now for what you would like to wear for this event.
As always I will be burning CD's of the shoot for all the participants later that night. Your CD will be with me in the ZOO Saturday Night as I am recording my show. Just come up and I'll get you your copy. (The better shots will go online at my personal web-space after the shoot also.)
(*NOTE*)
Additional photographers / videographers ARE WELCOME to take photos / video. HOWEVER, this is an unsanctioned event - meaning "My Shoot, My Rules" for everyone. Even though I do not charge in any way for this shoot, I still treat it with the highest of professionalism regarding the people and equipment involved. With that in mind, please be sure you understand the following conditions.
1) The point is to have FUN and to give the Furry Femmes a little something SPECIAL to remember the con with.
2) The safety and well being of the suiters is PARAMOUNT at all times. If a suiter needs a break or a drink or air and asks you to help with that, by being at the shoot you WILL help that person. (No one likes calling 911 to a FurCon.)
3) There will be some fairly expensive photography equipment in use. Be mindful of where those items are at all times. Gravity is a bad way to turn off a photo lamp.
4) A certain manner of decorum will be expected of everyone. Meaning, don't be a creep! If the ladies don't feel comfortable with a pose or for you specifically, for ANY reason, let it go and just enjoy taking other shots.
And, most importantly....
5) I am the primary photographer - so I will be making the most suggestions on poses or positioning equipment. As I get my shots, you will be welcome to get some as well yourselves. AND feel free to make suggestions as we go along. Who knows? I might like what you think of.

SEMI-PRIVATE PHOTO SHOOT
I was contacted by Bramble Bunny aka Pocy Fox aka pocy pocy who is bringing a Porsche 911 convertible to A.C. due to this year's theme. For those that might be interested, I will make myself available (weather permitting) in the afternoons for G - Cheese-cake-naughty photos with the car for those that would like to do so. Please post below if you have even a passing interest in this possibility.
PRIVATE PHOTO SHOOTS
Since I will be bringing ALL my photo equipment, I will be available for 'Personal' photo shoots Saturday and Sunday afternoons. As with my past offerings, the only people who will have copies of those shoots will be Myself (naturally) and You, burned onto CD Rom. I will not post / release ANY photos without specific word from the suiter(s) involved. EVER.
Trust is my most valuable trait - and I will NOT compromise it. Period.
BREAKFAST WITH FRED (ROGERS)
Some of us still fondly remember Fred "Mister" Rogers growing up. Well, it turns out there was a statue erected ( PICTURE HERE ) across the river from AnthroCon several years ago ( WALKING DIRECTIONS ) in his honour.
What I am proposing is getting a bunch of us together to either walk or take local mass transit to the site of Fred's statue for 8.30am on Saturday Morning. I'll bring single-serve cereal boxes, milk and spoons and we can start our day with the man who taught us that we're all special, just by being ourselves.
I've kicked around this idea for the last few years and I would REALLY love to make this a worthwhile tradition to celebrate a kind, gentle soul who many of us admired or were taught by. So please consider this one? I know this makes it a little early on Saturday, but at least it puts the event before the official start of events at 10am.
THE FELINE CONSPIRACY'S WED-NIGHT 80'S BASH
Again, this year, I will be recording my show from The Zoo on Saturday evening. This year the show will be running from 7.30pm and end at 11.30pm, local time. If you know someone that you'd like me to interview, please let them know I will be there. I'm, of course, hoping that kagemushi kagemushi will be able to show up again.... maybe jibba jibba... we'll see.
The show will be broadcast the following Wednesday night starting at 9.30pm Eastern time at http://LiveDJ.TFCsl.com .
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
And now, I've posted tips and tricks about attending AnthroCon before - so I'm going to do so again. Read these first and then come back here:
* How to survive a furry con - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/145324/
* Convention survival guide part II - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/151467/
Now, for MY two cents....
1) When you go to a con (doesn't matter which one), remember that the vendors and artists there are operating a business first and foremost. Yes, it's GREAT to be able to meet them (trust me, I was rather overwhelmed getting to meet a LOT of these folks first-hand), but they are there as business people first.
2) If they're working / selling things / talking with someone already about a commission or a product or speaking with ConStaff, give them time to do it. Be patient. They aren't going anywhere and they know you're there. If they try to interrupt someone they're already talking to to tend to you, tell them to finish up first.
Seriously... Good manners go a LONG way to making people WANT to give you an extra minute of their time after.
3) Once you have your chance with them, put out your hand and give a firm handshake and, before anything else, THANK them for sharing their time and talents with you.
Again, its not just good manners, but you have to remember - these people (artist and non-so-artistic alike) share a part of themselves, even if it's just comments and insights posted on a comment board.
They don't HAVE to... they CHOOSE to! That deserves some gratitude - a simple handshake and a 'Thank You' mean a hell of a lot to folks. Seriously.
4) If you DO buy something from an artist, consider paying an extra dollar; JUST a dollar. Why? Simple! Consider a waiter/waitress' tip - the 'double the tax' rule here for me puts a BASELINE tip at 16%. If you get a $10 sketch, $1 is a 10% tip.
Come on... you know what a waiter/waitress would say about you for leaving a freekin' 10% tip? And really, what's an extra dollar? You'll be spending a LOT of money at the con already just getting in and parking and gas and lodging and food and....
What does it all come down to? Its simple; Go the extra niceness mile, be considerate, use good manners, follow the 6-2-1 rule, don't over-share, don't troll and MOST of all.... DON'T BE, "THAT GUY/GAL"! If you have to preface something with a, "please don't take this the wrong way, but...." then don't say it at all.
And finally.... communication. I cannot stress this enough! Make sure you have all the contact information you need in case of an emergency or just to connect with someone you're hoping to see. To that end, for those travelling with smart devices with nearly unlimited data plans, I would suggest using "WAZE" ( http://www.waze.com/ ) for travel / traffic updates / police locations / sharing travel info with others via email/Facebook..... I started an "Anthrocon" group to help us all share data to and from A.C. freely.
So that's it. LONG journal, I know.. but good info. I can't WAIT to see you all SOON!

IT'S ALIVE
Posted 12 years agoWell after finally putting an end to my own stupidity I have given my computer new life. Had to call MS for a new product key for my Window 7 but they was quick and free. My currents specs are
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570k - 3.4 GHz
RAM: 16GB
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 660
A bit of an upgrade so now I just need to test some actual games and see how they fair at different settings.

Character Idea
Posted 12 years agoSo on the 14 hour ride back from Canada my mind began to wander. One thing I do not see often in the furry community for character ideas are plant/animal hybrids. We let out imagination run wild with crux, sparkle dogs, and every type of mythical creature out there. Yet I personally have never really seen a plant/animal mix. I know it really shouldn't work since the DNA for both is SO very different. I really do not care though. If a person is able to mix a Dragon with pretty much any animal then I can think up something mixed with plants.
Here is where I get hung up though. For the life of me I cannot think up a good combination. The only detail that is stuck in my mind is to have the feet look like roots. Kind of in a "stompy paw" style
Anyone out there that can think of something that would look good? Sleek and slender with a hint of mystery. some type of ivy keep popping into my head as well but I just cannot think of good little details.

The rReturn of the Pantheress
Posted 12 years agoI am finally back for my trip to Canada after 14 hours of driving. 3 of it was on a 20 miles stretch of dirt road that has to be taken VERY slowly.
Anyway, the trip went fast but it was a lot of fun as well. We stayed at a little place called Lake Ogascanan. It is a rather oddly shaped lake that runs roughly 15 miles north and about 8 wide. Here is a picture of it as well as the lodge we stayed at. http://www.ogascanan.com/images/topographical.jpg
We stayed at the Main Camp which as you can see is on the bottom left of the image. It took about an hour to get all the way north. The main fishes we were targets were Northern Pike and Walleye. Both have really nasty sets of teeth that can cut you deeply. Sadly we went the week after opening season which means that their spawning and feeding frenzy were over with. The fishing was pretty shitty but it got better towards the end of the week.
At nights were the best though. Six guys (holy shit I just gave my gender away) sitting around drinking beer and bullshitting. We talked about everything from fish to politics. Plus there were plenty of crude jokes made.
The only downsides were the fishing and the bugs. There was a severe lack of fish until Thursday, where we got into the walleye, and Friday, where we started getting some good pike. As for the bugs, there was a massive amount of black flies and mosquitoes. They were so bad you would walk outside and be blinded by them swarming you.
Over all the trip was fun. Sadly I do not think it was really worth a 14 hour drive and we are looking at Moosehead Lake in Maine as the next trip.

Disappearing
Posted 12 years agoLater tonight starts my week long absence. I am taking a nice long week in Canada for a fishing trip. No cell, no computer, hardly any electricity. Will be my father, 4 other guys and I in a small fishing camp at Lake Ogascanan. We will be fishing for pike, walleye, and maybe some lake trout. Last time my back was killing me about mid-way through so I am hoping it will hold up this time.
My greatest fear right now is the number of notifications and e-mail I will see when I get back on June 7th or 8th. Not exactly sure which day yet.
Anyway, have a great weekend and week all. Take care of yourselves and talk to you all later.

Con stuffs
Posted 12 years agoWelp. I just got a nice little assistance.
As some of you might know I used to be part of the Army National Guard. During my time there I received a couple of injuries that have limited me in a few things. The biggest being a fracture wrist that they still haven't chosen to do anything about. The good news is that my disability claim has finally gone through and I got a nice little check for back pay.
What this means in total is that I will be able to EASILY make it to Anthrocon and even going to Otakon this year. SO HAPPY!

Have you ever really thought about all the things you've done in fursuit? Here's a list of questions to help you figure out just how much fursuiting you've engaged in ;3
No rules (apart from having fursuited at one point or another), just answer the questions any way you'd like!
Posed in front of a mirror?
OF course. Need to make sure a girl looks good.
Been shopping/to a supermarket/store in fursuit?
Yep. Didn;t really buy anything though. Some of the staff loved it.
Been group suiting?
Only at local meets
Ever put on your fursuit for no reason and worn it for an extended period of time?
Yep. Wanted to see how I could hold up to the heat and restrictive sight.
Have you walked around your hometown in fursuit?
Yep. Walked to a friends house and surprised her.
Fursuited in a different country?
Not yet.
Fursuited at a con? If so, how many times?
Yes, lost count.
Drank in fursuit?
Oh yeah. Needed a long straw though.
Eaten something?
Pocky and cookles. Was really easy.
Put on someone else's fursuit?
In a trade. They wore mine and I wore theirs. It was only fair.
Ruined the magic in public?
HAd to once. Went to see Lion King 3D and we had to remove our heads.
Gone to a furmeet in suit?
OF course. Girls has to show off.
Been in a moving car while in suit?
Not yet. Want to go into the side car of a motorcycle but local laws require a helmet.
Been glomped while in suit?
A few times.
Glomped someone while in suit?
It is required
Made a child smile?
Many many times. Thought since I am of average height I have had a few run away as well.
Danced?
Kinda. *bad poker face*
Been in a fursuit dance competition?
Not even close to being good enough.
Done something that attracted a large group of people while in suit?
Yes. There were a few of us derping around and folks came and watched.
Experienced a hater?
None that have talked to me anyway.
Longest time in fursuit? (what counts as being in suit is up to you)
four to five hours. Lost track.
And finally...
Most memorable moment in fursuit?
First time in public. I walked out from the parking garage and saw all the people looking at me. Of course I was nervous but the one thing that caught my eye was a college football players. He must have been at least six feet tall and around 275 pounds of muscle. He looks at me with an almost death look and starts charging me. I was frozen in fear of getting beat to a pulp. He ended up just hugging me tightly before continuing his phone call. I was in shock for about 30 seconds. It was great. ^_^

Posted 12 years agoOnce again another jackass within the community has done the unthinkable. As some of you might know, PandaGuy passed away not too long ago. It was a sad day indeed. Sadly not everyone respects those that have passed and do what they want. Below is a link to a post and picture of the suit. Take the time to read the description and help out if you can.
