Popularity in the Fandom
General | Posted 13 years agoI've been doing some thinking here lately, and I've been seeing a couple of artists around the fandom who are getting fed up & tired with not having a large fanbase here in the furry fandom. Truthfully, I use to have the same frustrations. I remembered when I first came onto the furry fandom, I wanted to be just like all the pop-furs who get 70-something comments on one piece of work, and the kind of artist who had more than 500+ watchers.
However, I've come to realize popularity is not all that great and if anything, I know some pop-furs out there who wish they were probably left the hell alone 75% of the time. Plus, I've noticed some of the drama crap that goes on with pop-furs, like pesky users who beg for free art, or the ones who want the pop-fur to draw more of Subject A rather than Subject B. And I've noticed over the years that with popularity come trolls who will go out of their way to bad mouth an artist, even if he/she has never done a bad thing in the fandom to attract such mean attention, and if they did, as long as it's not stealing/scamming out of money or harassing others, why should we care?
Lately, I've come to realize that one of the most important things is improve as an artist and to enjoy the skill I've been blessed with. As far as watchers are concerned, I'm quite happy with the amount of peeps who keep an eye on me, and if anything, I can always tell who my 'regulars' are amongst them that always fav/comment on each new piece I put out. =) I've also made a couple of friends who are always there for me when life isn't so grand.
In fact, I'm going to take the time to thank some of you right now:
First & foremost,
Rhazzazor , thanks for always being my shoulder to vent to and frequently checking in on me. Not to mention, when it comes to us making stories and art together, you're my fellow perverted co-hort in crime ;D
You are truly my long-distance big brother, and I don't care how old you are, you're still my bro :P
Second, to my frequent commentors such as
TheRisingPhoenix , :iconKomitadjie , :iconTirien66 , 
Matrizorn ... you guys always have something nice/sweet to say about my work, whether it's a simple doodle or a detailed piece, your words are always appreciated. If I forgot any of you, please forgive me, but do know that I always appreciate anything ya'll have to say about my art! =)

General | Posted 14 years agoWhether you're single or a couple, I want to wish you all a marvelus Valentine's Day!!! Spoil yourself with a good dinner, nice wine (or beer, whichever) and some delectable chocolates, you deserve it!!!! ;D
I'll never forget the first official date Eric & I went on and the night we officially declared ourselves as a couple on 2-14-06....
We both just got out of crappy relationships and we decided to go out on a Valentines Day date to celebrate 'our singleness' together, har har~ :P I'll never forget the day before our date, Eric & I were talking on our phones, just being goofy and then I heard this...
(person in background) "HEY ERIC!!! YOU GONNA WORK ON VALENTINES DAY?"
Eric: "Nope!! I'm going on a date with my future wife!!!!"
I almost dropped the phone from shock, to think that this man who didn't know me all that well was already calling me his future wife!!! I remembered it made me flustered, nervous, shy, and bashful, but we later shrugged the joke off. On Valentines Day night, before we went out, he presented me with gifts that made my heart flutter with giddyness! He got me my very first pack of prismacolor pencils, a leatherbound portfoilo, and two sketchbooks :) This man knew what he was doing!!! One thing lead to another, and here we are, a married couple, and still silly-happy in love :)

Foodies_n_Bevies This new group I created is for folks who work, or have worked in, the Food & Beverage industry. =) I myself am a part of this job industry, and while some days are frustrating, it's a nice and humbling job. Young Marriage Musings
General | Posted 14 years agoWarning: The Lioness has gone off into thoughtful-contemplation mode. Be warned this is a lengthy personal journal.
You know, being 22 years old and looking back on the past 4 years of my marriage so far, I can honestly smile and hold my high with no regrets, really. I will say I perhaps should have waited a little longer but at the same time, I really do believe in my heart I chose the right decision to live my life out with the man I tied the knot with. What's funny is that I know when I got decided to get married at the wee age of 18, a lot of people were skeptical. Heck, I even knew some of my relatives (and friends) had placed bets as to how long we would stay together before the dread 'D' word was mentioned. I take pride knowing I can laugh in their face and know I got married for all the right reasons, and if anything, I believe, marriage has made me a better and more improved person in general.
I remember in our first year of marriage, it was kinda bumpy and rough, admitedly. I was a bit of a spoiled brat growing up and didn't know how to do much around the house. I'm ashamed to admit that Eric really did teach me alot of things such as laundry, cleaning, and cooking. Now, while I don't do a lot of cooking still (cause Eric is 10x times better at cooking) I've improved a lot in my responsibilities over time.
Not only have I learned to do more around the house but it seems in these short years, my maturity level did some growing as well. I admit, when I was younger, I was silly, goofy, and did childish things constantly, even when I was a teenager. I sat in my bedroom for hours reading manga and playing video games and if not these things, I would lounge around and sketch my heart away. I wasn't lazy, if anything, I was a good student in highschool who got her homework done quickly, but afterwards, it was 'me' time and I didn't care what anyone had to say about it.
When Eric came into my life, though, I didn't care about spending my money on graphic novels. And even though I'm still deep down a gamer chick, I hardly play as much as I use to due to just being flat out tired from work. I'm sure you can imagine staring at a computer screen for 8 hours for 5 days doesn't make me feel gun-ho staring at another bright monitor for another couple of hours. While I am a little sad to say I don't draw as much as I use to, I'm still pretty happy with my life.
I may not be in college and while my current dwellings aren't ideal, I'm still very much happy that Eric's in my life and I honestly don't ever want to imagine a life without him. He may not have a job, but he still takes care of me and still spoils me rotten when I know I probably don't deserve it sometimes. He puts up with my snarkiness and bitchyness but we eventually get over the petty things.

Not only did I recieve Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword as an early prezzie, but I'm also getting a 5th Generation 60 GB iPod :D Now I can put all my music on my Nano iPod and all my favorite TV series on the big one!!! X3 I'll have my favorite Doctor Who eppies with me along with Big Bany Theory and so much more! SQUEE-GASM!!!!!!!!!

Guys, I tell you... I have been counting my blessings ALLLLL morning. Everywhere I've been in Florence, trees have fallen on top of houses, been uprooted, twisted into splinters, and so much more. We had 6 tornado touchdowns in just the area I lived in, but luckily our area wasn't hit nowhere near as badly as Tuscaloosa and Phil Cambell county. An F5 struck them and HARD... just looking at the photographs of the damage on Yahoo.com is chilling.
As for my personal experience with the weather...
I at first shrugged it off because where I live, sure we see some bad storms come through, but I sure wasn't ready for what came through yesterday. My shift at the hotel ended at 3pm, so I bebop downstairs and meet my dad in the parking lot. He said a tornado warning was issued right after I got in the truck. Dad and I decided to hang out in the parking lot and wait for the warning to expire at 3:15 like the local radio said it would. At 3:15, the weather radio broadcasters told us the warning had to be PROLONGED due to a tornado 6 miles outside of Sheffield, which to put things in perspective for ya'll who don't know the area, Sheffield was barely 15 minutes from where I was located. No sooner when I heard the broadcaster say this, I stuck my head out the window and there it was...
A gigantic churning and rotating wall cloud (not an official tornado but the wall cloud it COULD DROP FROM!) was FAST approaching over the treelines of the hotel and Dad & I bolted to get inside the security office. Not 35 seconds later after we shut the door, a wall of rain came down and with the wind blowing as hard as it was, the rain was falling SIDEWAYS!!! I swear any second I thought I was going to see a tornado drop right on us!!! I was horrified!
After about 30 minutes, things died down and Dad and I felt it was safe enough to leave the hotel property. As we drove back to the house, the damage we saw around Florence was rather shocking, and again, I am reminded how very blessed I was and still am.
Please keep the ones who have have lost their homes & loved ones in your prayers. This was the worst tornado outbreak Alabama has seen since the 1970's. Even bigger cities like Birmingham and Huntsville were struck by the outbreak and buildings and homes have been obliterated. People have lost loved ones... I was even told about a 4 year child who luckily just ended up in the ER with some minor scrapes, but tragically, the same can't be said for his parents... So tragic.

3-Year Anniversary Musings <3
General | Posted 15 years agoI still remember the day when we met at Books-a-Million. We laughed and exchanged jokes, and then we outside and he pulled out a cigarette. Being the mouthy & opinionated little cub I am, I told him (in a rather snarky tone) that smoking is bad for him and that I have asthma because of cigarettes. He smirked at me and blew a puff of smoke in my face... Truthfully, folks, I didn't know whether to punch the man or kiss him right there. Somehow, I ended up with his number that night.
2 years later, one night when I was at my lowest and most depressed, I called him. He listened and comforted me while I cried over someone who had broken my heart into little pieces. We arranged a date on Valentine's Day (of all day) for us to meet up. That night, one smile led to another, and we decided to court each other =)
Eric and I went through alot within the short amount of time we dated. Both memories full of joy and happiness, and then some with great pain and tears. Most couples, from what I understand, usually wait 2 or more years before even considering the 'm' word. However, Eric and I decided on the afternoon of October 27th, 2007, we would say our vows and be together forever. Through sickness and in health. For better or worse, and until death do us part. I love you, my beloved Eric Hopson, and will always be by your side.

She's curled up in her kennel right now and we've got towels draped over it for privacy! And to make the puppies birth even more special? It snowed today, which is EXTREMELY RARE where I live! I should try to give them elemental names for snow and ice XD Anyways, I'll keep ya'll posted!

Highlights of my birthday weekend:
3 new video games: Legend of Zelda, The Windwaker, Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise (with strategy guide cause I would never finish on my own XD) and finally, Devil May Cry 4... I was awfully tempted to sell my black DS lite... just to get a lime green one I found, that comes with a pouch and Personal Cooking Trainer. o.o I'm such a sad green-loving geek.
Had dinner at Demos with Eric's dad. NOM NOM NOM NOM. That's all I gotta say.
Got two new white bras from Victoria Secret. <3 Hm... Yay!
Got an adorable retarded looking bear from Eric ^^ He reminds me of Scrump from Lilo and Stitch.
And the grand finale....
I found baby ball pythons on sale at Petco for 29.99, so... GUESS WHAT I'M GETTING IN A FEW WEEKS? :D

General | Posted 17 years agoWorking V-Day was not bad at all... considering I only wanted to punch 2 people in the face (audience says, "WOW, ONLY 2, JESSIE?! :O That's a record breaker!") that day. It also wasn't that bad considering I got roses from my sweet husband. ^^
Sunday, after going to church with my husband's dad and step mom, we went to County Boys for some food. (OMG, their chicken n' dumplings = LOVE) While we were sitting there, a figure from a past not so long ago and never forgotten stood at the doorway....
It was strange to see my last flame standing there....looking less than tidy. The whole beard thing he had was...ew. I did see his mom which did make me smile. As I stared, I couldn't help but smile even more. Sure, it was a heartbreak then, but seeing the past in front of me also makes me appreciate what I have now and forever until death do us part, and also reminds me of mistakes I could have possibly made. So in a sense, seeing that guy...makes me smile.
After lunch, Eric & I went home and decided to start our Valentines Day. I laid out some blankets and pillows and Eric got some snacks such as strawberries (some tasty and somewhat burnt chocolate fondu XD), kiwis, chips, salsa, and cheese dip. We also had some Arbormist strawberry wine and he popped in a silly romance movie called Failure to Launch. We turned out the lights in the house and had our own movie and romantic mini-dinner. It was so nice, it actually felt just like how we use to date. Simple & Sweet. After the movie, I was still hungry so we went to Legends with some gift cards we had from my mom. ^^; Which was mistake. Ever since I started working at one of the best restaraunts in my town, I've become a critic of every other eating place. Legends wasn't that great, but despite all that, it was romantic and sweet....
And I want more dumplings. :d

General | Posted 18 years agoSo I sit here and think, "WOW...just FREAKIN' WOW!" Today, I went to a city not too far from where I live and went to a David's Bridal place and finally got my dress :) I felt like something straight out of a fairytale, and I almost started crying. Heh. I'm just so happy. Who would have known at the extreme young age of eighteen I was to be wed to a man I thought I was going to kick in the goods at a bookstore?? XD
Heh, despite the criticism and/or insults and the awkward gazes, I don't care what anyone says or thinks. I'm happy in my soul and my mind of what is to take place soon. I thought I knew what love was once, but after my fall and rebirth, I know what it truly means for someone to love you, to understand, to trust, and care for you. I know marriage isn't always a fairytale, for it would be naive of me to think such. I've had my share of bad arguments so I know things won't always be sweet, but if you truly love someone and want to be with them, all you need is love ( Good lord, I sound like the writer from Moulin Rouge) and understanding to get through even the worst of storms. Another strong belief of mine is that marriage is forever and eternal, and it is not something so petty that you can end it with divorce. I will say though, unless a family member is being beaten/abused or the children are, that is the ONLY excuse I will ever see fit for it. I'm sorry if someone disagrees, but it is just my belief but I respect others views.
