EF25 afterglow
General | Posted 6 years agoHoly crudsicles, more than a year without update?! Time flies...
So EF25 happened, and it was awesome. I love to meet people and talk with them about the trade, their views on the trade, and meet the faces behind the on-line messages, and meet artists that I look up to.
Arrived in Berlin with Dktorzi and rinthedragon. Not at the Estrel unfortunately this time (I'll spare you the drama). Met up with my roommates dutchthew0lf, Christophe, Soulsylver and room frequenter, kuroi-ashi. It felt weird at first being almost twice their age and sharing a room, but quickly got along with all of them, shitposting in the Roomies Telegram chat. Let's do this again next time?
Didn't attend a whole lot of workshops, but the artist lounge was where it was at! Got to talk with a lot of artists, exchange perspectives, and do a couple of art trades. It was heartwarming to receive so much positive feedback on my drawing, even though it's to this date still unfinished (more on that later).
One person in particular made my day, when we got to talk after his positive remark. It took me a minute to figure out I was speaking with o-kemono, an artist whose motivational art and cute characters I much appreciate. Like meeting an idol, I may have acted like a freaking dork once I found out, for which I apologize. It was a pleasure to talk with him about his art and his motivations, draw alongside with him and have general good cheer.
I also got to meet up with daigaijin again, who I commissioned a kick-ass sketch from my newly made character Mridula (scrap post from her later) from. I hope he'll let me upload that sketch because I freaking love it. Also bought the two FFC manga, got to see him work on the FFC comic pages, and talk about the creation of these pages. The speed at which he crafts these pages is mind-boggling, and not something I could ever replicate. It was a genuine blast to jam with him.
Met up with some familiar faces like crazyking_xavos, syntech, tanithelynx, lightnymfa, pegla, and got in touch with some new faces, like jack_lehn, karakina, and faolan. Good to see them back at the convention, and jam with them, accompanied with the mindless banter (Dutch Furry Table FTW!).
The drawing for the charity auction is however, unfortunately still unfinished, mostly due to my dilly-dallying, and artist frustrations. I'm sort of ashamed of it, as I had all the opportunity to finish it, but I was sulking and moping about mistakes for too long a time. I still feel I lack some fundamentals with anatomy, and wanting to get things right too quickly. Silver lining though, the sketch I submitted of the drawing earned the charity 80 EUR, a good price for a sketch. I even got to talk to the bidder at his request, and he praised the detail and effort into that sketch. Had a real good chat with him, was fascinated about the stories he could tell me. Good sir, if you're ever at Eurofurence again, please feel free to stop by me again, really loved the NASA cat story.
That's about it for the con report, I will endeavour to be a little more communicative with journals and drawing updates. For now, I wish you all a good day and I hope to meet you at the next convention!

RinTheDragon at the Dealer's Den, which I'm sort of ashamed about admitting I didn't do a lot. I would've loved going to the perspective -, polyglot - and storywriting workshop, as well as hear the stories of Uncle and Grandma Kage. Next year I'll definitely come better prepared. I was glad to finish on time, if only just, and making all those contacts. I'm already thinking of a next charity auction piece, on top of thinking of getting a Dealer's table myself next year.
The Artist's Lounge was so much fun, just being around artists and seeing them draw gave me such a boost to get down and get going myself. I met a couple of Dk's and Rin's friends and had a good few chuckles together, drawing or not. Getting in touch is a big part of why I like the AL. Admittedly I'm not a likely one to approach an artist and get into a conversation, but I found that as you just sit and draw the conversations come to you. So if you see me drawing, feel free to take a seat and start chatting. I'll try and make myself more detectable next time.

General | Posted 7 years agoI've paid my ticket to Eurofurence for a while now but I kept quiet about my attendance. But now - and admittedly, also by the strong recommendation of an EF-expert-friend of mine - I feel it's high time I came out with it.
Now I've been to anime-, comic- and fantasy-conventions before, but there's still a tinge of excitement brewing in the thought of going to my first furry convention. I know there's going to be vendors of art, merch and books, cosplay-activities, food stands and various workshops, that's standard convention business. I do wonder what the atmosphere and people will be like. Certainly I wonder if I'll get to meet people I've been keeping in touch with. I'll be 'meandering' around, see what's for sale, checking the workshops and of course, drawing. Hopefully I can get this damn piece finished for the charity auction. And who knows, maybe putting my bit of German language to use?
So anyway, if you're going, drop me a message. And if you see a 6'3" Dutchie sketching around with pencils, feel free to give me a tap on the shoulder.

A wee little apology

To come right down to the point, I want to apologize for suddenly dropping off after a good few weeks of on-line activity. Art block crept in and life caught up after the holidays, which I had to deal with. Currently searching anew for a balance to allow me to get active again on-line. Sorry for not addressing it sooner, but there you have it. Starting next week, I'll try and stream more frequently again, and keeping more frequent contact! The workflow schedule is still the same as before, I made a little progress on "Dinner's Ready!" but the shading is proving to be something that I thought I had down how to do, but actually not exactly. It's also part of the reason my little mental art critic surfaced, and slowed me down.
Also looking to do some anatomy 'studies' (I find it an awfully loaded word), so that's another thing that will, hopefully sooner than later, eat up my time.

General | Posted 8 years agoNow that "Pleasing the Senses" is finished and prepared for shipping to EvilArt (waiting for the frame to arrive) I'm working on Dktorzi's gift picture "Dinner's Ready". As you can see in the picture it's inked, and currently being greytoned (environmental lighting, will also get shadows and contrast greytones). While I will still not give an ETA on when certain things will be done (certainly not with life's obligations and the end-of-the-year holidays), things are going and coming along nicely (in before JINX!). I will try to keep you guys up-to-date with frequent streaming.

General | Posted 8 years agoIt's been a while, keeping touch mostly on social chats. Visited EvilArt in Chile in October. Had a blast, even if what little Spanish I learned was utterly useless in the casual Chilean conversations. Now that I'm back home and normal life and its various pitfalls has resumed, I'm looking to pick up the arting pace a bit, although I'm usually rubbish at setting deadlines, so I won't bother with it, save with a prediction I will finish "Pleasing the Senses" the coming week, if all goes well. The art schedule will then go as follows:

General | Posted 10 years agoIt's been a little while and I apologize for that. Work, other interests and holidays have put a damper on my input, among others. The main reason is that I've hit a bit of an artistic snag and I'm currently trying to ride it out as quickly as possible.
Seeing others crank out one masterful picture after the other seemingly effortlessly sometimes makes me feel inadequate, which, in my view is a good thing, as it makes me want to improve. Pitfall is me wanting things too fast and if progress doesn't follow accordingly, I tend to get discouraged and consequently ride the sulk train for an unforseeable time. Fear of failing is a bitch to travel with too. Why can't it be Fun of failing sitting beside me on the sulk train? Do you guys ever experience similar periods? How do you guys derail the sulk train? Let me know!

Having seen JooJoo, MewyFox, Veramundis, Shalinka, (check them out, they're good!) etc. crank out anatomy so easily while I struggle with it most of the time made me realize I need to get back into the books, as they say, and practice. God damn practice. I might pop in for a chat or a multi, but I'll generally be keeping a low profile that week. This week's Saturday stream will commence as usual though, don't worry.
