On Cara now too!
Posted a year agoI made a Cara account! https://cara.app/squeakychewtoy
I'm posting some new and old art there, all SFW stuff. I've been doing mostly landscape type stuff lately. Something about painting moss and trees just feels really nice. Been swinging between that and uh... sexy cryptids I guess. Mothman is next. I guess now I'll find it more fun giving them a place to "Be" in my art.

Yah so I'm still on BSKY too... no more invites needed tho. :3

Back to talk about Star Trek
Posted 3 years agoHey guys! We have a couple new Star Trek series I want to talk about. They've been so good! I'm back in a Trek hyperfixation so here we go.
Strange New Worlds. It's set before TOS and follows Captain Christopher Pike, played by Anson Mount and his amazing hair. Their Uhura gives me all the feels, I fucking love her. They played up her anxieties about being unsure about being in Starfleet, mirroring the late Nichelle Nichols' trepidation about being on Star Trek in the 60s. (Reminds me of Hoshi from Enterprise also - yeah I started watching that old show, I actually kinda love it now.) And I love the absolute living fuck out of openly bisexual Nurse Chapel. I feel some Ellie Sattler in that performance, so obviously I'm gonna love her. XD And her feels for Spock? Perfect and heartbreaking! And the stories have been so fantastic and relevant. The history lesson in the first episode alone really laid it all out, like hot damn. My favorite episodes so far are the one where Uhura sings to a comet, and the one about Gorn reproduction. Let me tell you, the Gorn one is a total horror episode with actual gore! It was creepy and exciting! Anyway, Trek feels like Trek again, so I'm pretty happy about that!
Then there's Prodigy. I feel like that one is a Star Trek, but written for Star Wars fans. It just has more of a Wars feel overall, which is odd for Trek but I don't hate it? It's definitely different. We start with some young aliens in an unexplored corner of the galaxy, not Starfleet officers, but they end up getting their hands on a Starfleet ship. And Janeway is a training hologram. It's definitely a kids' show, but I kinda love it. Again, feels more like Wars than Trek, but would recommend since I like both!
I am also very sad to have heard of Nichelle Nichols' death. She was......... Amazing. p.q

Happy Star Wars Day, everyone!

If y'all like dino toys...
Posted 4 years ago... you should check out my Instagram. It's damn near all I post there: https://www.instagram.com/chewtoysqueaks/
I've got a bunch of JP/W dinos, Safari Ltd., the new Dino Strike blind ball things, a few of the better Schleich pieces, a couple Papos, and 3 Beasts of the Mesozoic(Velociraptor, Dromaeosarus, and Stryacosaurus - which are basically my favorites but the most expensive so I only got a few XD), and many others. I've got other brands too but those are the bulk of my collection. My favorite scale for figures is 1:18, due to Mattel's main JW line being in that scale and I like things to be in proportion with those characters, but I'll take dinos of any size really. (My Beasts of the Mes' Styrac is this scale and I love her, I named her Jasper and she DWARFS the JW version.) A few are customs, but most are just the plain stock toys, still fun though!
I also post dinos(with longer reviews) on Pillowfort, but that site is in read-only mode for the foreseeable future: https://www.pillowfort.social/squeakychewtoy
And I used to post em to Tumblr, but fuck Tumblr. :)

Godzilla vs. Kong
Posted 4 years ago...was an amazing film! They've been killing it on these new Monsterverse movies. :D
I only have one question: How did King Kong learn American sign language?? Who taught him that? Because it was specifically American sign language he was using.... which would be a different form of signing the tribesmen on Skull Island would use. That's the one thing that baffled me. I kinda want to see how he learned it because it's actually quite intriguing to me. XD

That's right, Chewtoy finally found the uncanny valley nightmare that is Satellite City. It was only a matter of time, I suppose. Plenty of mysterious creatures and dark humor are to be had there. And they're singing about The Wall in this one; that's one of my favorite movies!
Lucy is definitely Best Kivouackian. <3
Man, I really needed that.

Camp Cretaceous
Posted 5 years agoThe new Jurassic World cartoon, Camp Cretaceous, comes out on Netflix tomorrow! I'm actually pretty thrilled for this. :D
From what I understand, none of the main JW or JP characters are in this. Which means no Claire to rage at and no established relationships to ruin! YAY FOR ME! :D And if I end up hating any of the kids, well from the trailers it looks like a few might get eaten so that'll be okay! (I'm kidding, I doubt they'll kill any of them, but they sure will have some tense moments.)
Blue looks weird though. I've seen pictures of her from this with those V. sornaensis nose ridges, which is not how she looks in the films. Oh well. At least we get to see her again outside of the movies. (I love Blue but I really kinda don't like the movies.) Some of the other dinos look funny still(Sinoceratops and Baryonyx, specifically) but most of them look pretty good. The human character designs are kinda lackluster, but it's a somewhat diverse group so that's cool.
I'm gonna give it a watch. We're getting 8 episodes at once tomorrow. If anyone's not on Netflix, I bet it'll be available on Watch Cartoons at some point. I'll probably put an update here with the link if it is. Here's hoping I like it. :>
EDIT: Yep, Watch Cartoons has it: https://www.thewatchcartoononline.t.....retaceous-2020
And I did enjoy it. :3 There's a part at the beginning where you might be like, "Ohhh, Chewtoy's not gonna like thaaaaat," but other than that and a VERY weirdly-placed flashback that kinda derailed the story flow for me(I needed a 12-hour break after that, lmao), I actually really did like it! I even feel for some of the characters, especially Ben. He gonna get druid levels. :P
Oh, and McDonalds has toys for this right now! I don't even eat McDonalds but I've been going there to buy dinosaurs. XD They're kinda cheap-looking(to be expected I guess, ha), but also pretty cute!

Instagram and Mantis Garden
Posted 5 years agoSo, I'm on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chewtoysqueaks/
I mostly post pics of my dinosaur toys, but lately I've been taking pictures of my mantis friends from out in my "garden". I say "garden," but it's really a patch of mint and weeds that I barely tend to.... If I "garden" anything out there, it is mantids! There are four of them at least: Wings, Barky, Twigs, and Bean. (Although two of those might be the nymphs I saw and named "Green Bean" and "Grey Boi" earlier in the season, all grown up.) I suspect that they know I like having them around... maybe they trust me to keep them safe... even if not, they're still a delight to have around. <3 Have I mentioned that mantids are my favorite type of insect? :3
That's about the most exciting bit of my life lately. Still not sure if/when I'm gonna be ready to open commissions again... been having a major lapse of creativity for a few years. :/ Still hoping to work up some gumption there, but we'll see.
Oh, and I have developed a love for grilled Velveeta on brioche. Velveeta's such processed crap, but it's so melty and tasty and goes so well with that buttery bread... it's just so yummy. p.q
That's what's up. Take care.

A STAR TREK CARTOON!
Posted 5 years agoDudes. My dudes. Just found out a new Star Trek animated series has begun, and it's made by Titmouse Inc., the same studio that produces Rick and Morty! It is called Star Trek: Lower Decks.
And I love it. It's got that crazy Rick and Morty style humor but still somehow feels more like Star Trek than damn near anything that's come out in the last 10 years(maybe with the exception of that Picard series, but I haven't actually watched that yet, we'll see [edit]- and of course The Orville which I did watch and LOVED and somehow forgot about when I was writing this up). And it really works! I love it! As a huge lifelong fan of old Star Trek(original series, animates series, Next Gen, Ds9, and the older movies, anyway), and a fan of Rick and Morty for as long as it's existed... this is perfect. I had my reservations about it at first, but that first episode was fantastic and I want more!
I found it on Watch Cartoons: https://www.thewatchcartoononline.t.....ek-lower-decks
But it's on CBS All Access, as well.
They may have just salvaged a franchise... in my eyes, anyway. :P

Pillowfort
Posted 5 years agoI've been seeing a lot of folks popping up on Pillowfort lately, and that makes me happy.
Just a reminder that I'm on there too: https://www.pillowfort.social/squeakychewtoy
I mostly post about dinosaur toys on there. It's what I like to blog about lately. *shrugs*
Also, if you'd like to make an account on there, I can send out 3 invite links a week and can note them to the first 3 to ask. I signed up when it was new and paid $5 for my account, which I feel was worth it... like, I don't miss that $5 now and I have a Pillowfort account. But I can send the invites at no cost to y'all, and if you miss it this week I can still send you one next week!

I'm back, I think.
Posted 5 years agoHey everyone! I've been away from FA for a while, but I'm gonna try to get back into the swing of things on here. I've even been drawing a bit!
I think I might be ready to open commissions soon, possibly. I also might start a Patreon, but I still don't know what to offer as rewards. Any suggestions?
Hope everyone's staying safe out there. A lot's happening and I worry about the state of things. But, here I am with dinosaur porn, soooo....

Atomic pageantry
Posted 5 years agoNot to be a doom-sayer, but I have a doom song for you all, A Perfect Circle's new track, "So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish."
https://youtu.be/UkHSmDxX1t4
If ever there were a literal anthem for the end of the world, this would be it. It has a certain.... finality to it. And of course there's the Hitchhiker's Guide references. Not to say that the world IS ending. But I'm also not saying it's NOT ending... we never really know. ;3
And there's that line, "Now Willy Wonka, Major Tom, Ali, and Leia have moved on." Thanks Maynard, punch a hole right through my poor nostalgic heart why don't ya. ;___;
The video HAS to be as ridiculous and over-the-top as it is, and yet it's still all very bleak and dark imagery superimposed on this "perfect" 1950s world.
I dunno, it's doomful and I like it. It speaks to me. I've been listening to APC for YEARS, and now I think.... I've finally found my favorite song of theirs. <3
So, uh... happy New Year?

Something I'm gonna REALLY like!
Posted 6 years agoDude. Jurassic World Evolution has a brand new DLC coming out, and it's a 1993 Jurassic Park scenario, "Return to Isla Nublar"! I think it takes place after the movie - which I guess means at the beginning of the Raptor comics. Most importantly, Alan and Ellie are finally showing up in there. <3 Plus we get pterosaur aviaries, a Rexy skin for the T. rex, and Compsognathus!
Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly8hhZDOOPY
And I still haven't gotten the Claire's Sanctuary DLC yet. :B Am I missing much? I do kinda want the dinos from it...
(I noticed a trailer dropped for JW3, also, but I'm still not sure if want. I'm super hesitant to even watch it. I really hope we get Alan and Ellie back together, but I've been so disappointed by these films so far that I don't have much hope for it.)

Hi, how was Halloween?
Posted 6 years agoI had a nice night in this Halloween. Once again I wasn't feeling up to decorating, but we only got 2 trick-or-treaters so I don't feel so bad. Heck, it means more candy for me. :3 We ordered pizza, had some drinks, and watched some weird old movies(The Mangler and Night Killer, a couple of very strange films). Good times.
How was your Halloween?

Need to get back on track
Posted 6 years agoSorry to have been away for so long... again. :/
Guys, I need to get my art life back on track. But, I'm going to close commissions again to do that. I'm very sorry to anyone I've kept waiting, but it's just too much for me right now.
I've got to get back to basics, like why I liked drawing in the first place. I'm not sure how much I actually enjoy drawing right now, and that's a big problem for me. I need to experiment and get messy with art again, try new media and old media that's gone ignored for too long. Fingerpaint, if I have to. I don't know what I want my art to be from here on out, but.... I know I want to make SOMEthing, and really enjoy doing it. We will see.
I've been writing again, so that's a step in the right direction. Just more Changes, but that timeline has become very dear to my heart and I know I need to finish it one day.
(And oh yeah, I'm also worrying over the plot and relationships for JW3. I want to be excited, but I'm trying to prepare for more disappointment.) *cough*
TL:DR Need to find my muses because they seem to have fled. Commissions closed. Writing more dinosaur porn.
How are you?

Okay, yeah, this game is awesome o3o
Posted 6 years agoI take back everything bad I might have said about Jurassic World Evolution. Holy crap it's awesome!
This game seems to be on a timeline where Fallen Kingdom never happened, which makes me really happy, and there are still Indoraptors which is cool! Dr. Wu is just as much of a sociopath as I've been imagining. I feel like I'm getting all the Jurassic lore I've been craving, without the things that bother me about some of the movies. The jeep even has an unlockable '93 JP skin! So cool!
Some of the dinos still look weird to me, especially those stupid-looking "Deinonychus", but I don't have to use them all. I still wish there were some feathered dinosaurs, but oh well. Obviously that's why I'm still looking forward to Prehistoric Kingdom, but in the meantime, most of these dinos do look awesome! I might not like their Baryonyx, but those Suchomimus are a beautiful and badass alternative. Mine eat those weird Baryonyx-gators for breakfast!
I definitely want to snag that Secrets of Dr. Wu expansion at some point, and heck even Claire's Sanctuary sounds kind of interesting. It's also on an FK-less timeline, where only the north end of the island is threatened by a volcano, which just seems a bit more probable to me. Claire still annoys me a bit, but I like her much more in this than in either movie. (I still haven't seen all of FK, but I.... think I've seen enough....)

Fixed
Posted 6 years agoOh yay, I managed to fix my tablet cord! So my boi's charging now, and I should be able to work on something in a couple hours. :D This is good, as I'm working on a sketch and will need to photograph it, and my actual camera is nowhere to be found. Tablet camera's higher res anyway. ;)
I just need to find a way to prevent further cat damage. I love my cats but man that was naughty of them. >:I They need to learn that they're not Pikachus.

Anyone going to San Diego Comic Con?
Posted 6 years agoThis is probably a longshot, but is anyone here planning on attending SDCC this year? And if so, would one of you be willing to pick something up for me?
You see, Mattel is releasing a John Hammond action figure: https://www.instagram.com/p/Byzm2sOIKXU/
But it will be a Comic Con exclusive item.
Since I'm not going to SDCC, if anyone can help me obtain one of those I will be quite grateful!
I will pay the cost plus shipping.
I have no hope of getting it otherwise. :/

Oh hek.
Posted 6 years agoOne of my naughty cats chewed on the power cord for my tablet and now it won't charge. :I Chewtoy is displeased.
So I gotta order a new charger and can't do digital art for a few days.
Also I'm finding that I'm generally more comfortable using pencil at the sketch stage anyway. So sketch commissions will probably still be pencil. And since I still don't have a scanner, I guess I'll have to get good at photographing them.

Posted 6 years agoWas gonna make a graphic for this but we'll do it in journal form for now. I pretty much only work digitally nowadays. So I'm not offering pencil sketches and was going to do away with "sketchy" commissions overall, but most people ask for em so I'll just do them digitally! :)

KING OF THE MONSTERS!
Posted 6 years agoThat new Godzilla, tho. Just got home from seeing it and man was it amazing! It's pretty much everything I wanted from a kaiju movie, plus Millie Bobby Brown who I already loved from Stranger Things!
I recommend it.
Go see it.
Now if you'll excuse me I've got some Gojira/Mothra porn to draw. There's a scene that's simply asking for that.

Dinosaur games - should I try JWE?
Posted 6 years agoWho here likes games with dinosaurs? What do you play?
I like games where the goal isn't just "kill all the dinosaurs." I'd rather be one or interact with them. I also tend to prefer more scientifically accurate dinos, but being a JP fan there's some wiggle room there.
I have Saurian and play it now and then, usually when there's an interesting update. I play ARK on occasion, but I mostly cheat my ass off on single player mode, and now I have a "taming gun" mod to kick my cheats into overdrive, ha. :B And lastly I've been playing Jurassic Park Builder on my phone, but it's been real buggy lately and started taking forever to load.
I've been very interested in the Prehistoric Kingdom project, but it's coming along slowly. Basically it lets you build a dinosaur zoo, and all the animals are as scientifically accurate as the designers can get. I'm contemplating getting Jurassic World Evolution the next time it's on sale, to tide me over, but I'm hesitant. I've heard mixed reviews, and as you may have seen I have mixed feelings about Jurassic World in general. Plus the new expansion revolves around Claire, and I absolutely can't stand that character. >:I Some of the dinosaurs look weird too, I dunno. When the raptors rear up their backs look broken, and they used the Fallen Kingdom model for their Baryonyx which I don't like. And we don't get any feathered dromaeosaurs and that gives me a sad. Get with the times, JW! I like the aesthetic of scaly raptors as much as anyone, but we all know better now so I'd like a realism option too.
Er, anyway, has anyone played JWE? Do you like it? Is the gameplay good enough to make me overlook its issues?? Let me know!
