I got the JW Legacy Collection toy set - 5 dinosaurs + Alan Grant - from the Target website. They don't seem to have the other Legacy toys on the website unfortunately. For the other ones I want I guess I'll have to either wait, pay too much money on Ebay, or drive an hour to a Target store that may or may not have them. Gonna just wait.

So, this is a really nice set of dinos. Got 2 raptors, a Dilophosaurus, a Gallimimus, a leg-humping Compsognathus, and a Dr. Grant.

They've included a V. soenaensis and a V. nublarensis! That's awesome to me because I make a point of the difference between those two species in my art and fics. Now I have 3D visual reference for both! So I'll be revising how I draw Ellie and them a bit, and that's good, because how I drew the nose ridges on my Sorna raptors before always looked off to me. Yes, I use toys for art reference sometimes, that's one reason I collect em. :D

The feet on these raptors are kinda big and chunky, especially on the sornaensis, but still nicely sculpted so I'll take it. I guess if you're going to exaggerate any feature on a raptor, it should be them sickle claws. Hasbro gave them NO sickle claws, so I guess Mattel's compensating with TWICE the sickle claw.... one could say: The sickle claw has been doubled! XD I know it's probably just so they'll stand up better, though. I really like the colors on them. The grey nublarensis looks just like the raptors from the first movie, and the sornaensis is green and you all know how much I like green! One thing disappoints me, and that is the fact that the nublarensis' jaw is a little messed up, but that's only apparent when it's open so I just keep it shut. Nonetheless, thumbs up overall!

The frill folds back, but looks much better open. I kinda miss the removable frill like the old Kenner toys had, but this is ok. The old Kenner ones had better detailing too, but the paint job they gave it does look good and the sculpting is movie-accurate(no notch like real dilos had but I can forgive it), so thumbs up!

I love that all the human figures come with a leg-humping Compsognathus. It appeases my perversion. :B Can't wait for the Ian Malcolm figure because his compy looks to be leg-humping the most vigorously, tail curling around the leg and everything. I also love Alan's "done with all of this" expression, it works all too well with a compy humping his leg! It's great that they made these look like the actors too, and sometimes I just refer to him as "Small Grumpy Sam Neill." Again, wonderful for art reference, even fully posable!

I honestly don't give 2 hoots about the humans(most of em anyway - we'll get to that) but those dinosaurs are a huge step up from what Mattel put out for the first movie. And they have Herrerasaurus, where else do you find some obscure dino like that? (Well, Safari Ltd maybe... we'll get to that too.)

XD Went with Battle Damage because I like the overall design the best. I kinda like how this line did the Battle Damage on these, too - it's on a little spring-loaded thing that you press and the flesh wound flips open, instead of having a chunk of flesh that comes off and WILL get lost like on the old JP line. And, because I don't want to think of Blue with a gaping flesh wound, I just keep that shit closed so her spaghetti won't spill. XD

Now, the human figures I am eyeing are - ooh, big reveal, huge fucking surprise - Alan and Ellie. Oh yes, they have a "Legacy Collection" with JP1 characters! They got Ian Malcolm and even Robert Muldoon, but I'll pass on those guys. I will probably go with that boxed set for Alan, he comes with 2 very lovely raptors, a Gallimimus, and a Dilophosaurus. They're Target-exclusive apparently which means they didn't have em at Wal Mart - sad times. I'll have to make a trip to Buffalo or order off Target's website, we'll see.

I've been thinking about the old Jurassic Park toys a lot too. They were some of the best toy dinos of their time, or at the very least some of my favorites. I used to have a small collection, but they got eaten by a snowblower long ago. Had 2 raptors - biter and screamer - and 2 Dilophosaurus - the squirt gun one and the screamer. I also had a Dimetrodon, though that is not actually a dinosaur, it is a synapsid. (The more you know!) I do still have the big reddish Rexy and the Coelophysis pair, though them Coelos are pretty beat-up. I might actually still have Alan and Ellie from that line somewhere around here too, probably hiding with my old Lion King toys. I, uh, have a literally 25-year-long history with that ship. :B

I currently have a much larger collection of Safari Ltd. dinosaurs. These ones are more like scientific replicas. I like em because they're generally pretty well detailed and colorful and overall good representations of the actual animals, rather than movie creatures. I think my favorite from this company is the feathered T. rex my half-sister got me for Christmas a few years back. I also have 2 other nonfeathered rexes of theirs, the old green one and the newer reddish one that is colored quite similarly to my JP Rexy. I have 3 Dilophosaurus from them, too, and too many more to list, ha. They have a pretty diverse cast with some obscure species(like Herrerasaurus, see, I came back to it) and I usually pick one up if I go to the museum or the fossil shop. (Yes, there's a fossil shop an hour from where I live: http://pastpres.com/ I love it, they have a small but amazing museum area in the back too.)

I have one Papo Spinosaurus and one Schleich green raptor that I refer to as Ellie, ha. http://squeakychewtoy.tumblr.com/po.....and-smol-ellie I actually did base Ellie's colors loosely on that toy. XD That's all I have of those brands, but I admire them from afar. Safari Ltd is usually cheaper so that's my main collection. ^^; Not always the most accurate, but always pretty cool-looking!

I bet that's what inspired Mattel to put out that fully posable Indoraptor.... too bad it doesn't look like a real dinosaur. ;p It's still neat, but I'd personally have a real species. I'd grab one of those of Blue in a heartbeat, at least she looks like a plucked Deinonychus.

Rexy seems to have survived the volcano - GOOD. Blue also survives - GOOD. But.... why make a big deal out of her being the "last raptor," can't they just clone more from other samples? I guess I just figured that some raptor DNA would be one of the things Wu had in that briefcase, but I guess not, I don't know. :I

Indoraptor.... oh boy, I don't know. Looks way CG and thus not that scary to me. And if I were one of those rich assholes, I'd want a plain old raptor, they're way prettier.

No mention of Alan or Ellie, not in the cast list or anything. I miss them, but that's okay... they can't ruin them more this way. But they seem to be in the toy line, that's interesting.

I think I'm not going to like Ian's role in this... not at all. Great job regurgitating lines from the first film and saying the title of the movie ominously there, Jeff. I'll go back to my fanfic version of you, thanks.

Some part of me still does not want to like Claire. I don't know, I hated her so thoroughly in the first one. :B

So, I decided I want to try raising chickens. Been doing a lot of research and saving up. I hope to get started in a month or so. That should be fun, will add to my expenses a bit but there will be 6-8 of them laying eggs for at least a couple years, so we'll be set on omelettes and flapjacks for a while. I haven't actually eaten eggs in many years, but I think I'd feel okay eating eggs from my own pet tinysaurs. We'll see, they still weird me out biologically but... we'll see. XD Hell, I don't even care, I'd still want them little yard raptors even if they didn't lay eggs, I just love hanging out with chickens!

Anyway, I'm thinking of starting up a Patreon to help fund my chicken shit. XD I am still at a loss of what to offer for reward tiers. I know I don't want to make it a paywall, but maybe higher res versions of images? I have them for most of my art. What would you want from, say, $1, $5, and $10 tiers? Maybe monthly sketches or portraits or something? What do other artists offer that you feel worth throwing money at?

I have been getting much better results. My tablet's pressure sensitivity settings actually work like they're supposed to, so my lines are smooth and crisp and precise and just how I want them to be! Arrgh, I love inking with this, and that is good because I have a large ink commission to do. XD

Still going with my JP fan projects. I really wanted part 6 of Changes to be done by now but it's taking me forever. In addition, I have ideas for a part 0 to that of the lead-up, since I now realize I've started the story in the middle, where shit gets super good. :B So I keep getting distracted on starting that before finishing this. I saw this masterpiece the other day, and if I didn't have to drive an hour in the cold I'd see it again! I highly recommend it. If you haven't seen it and are into interspecies romance(which, I'm not sure why you're watching me if you're not, lol), GO SEE IT. It won a Golden Globe for a reason! Del Toro hasn't let me down once that I can think of! Get this man on a Jurassic movie, STAT!

I didn't feel depressed coming away from this movie, which is more than I can say for the latest Star Wars or the JW:FK trailer. :/ It was a really beautiful love story... a love story between two silent protagonists, which I don't think I've seen done before.

This film had one of the most hateable villains I've ever seen on screen. You just hate him for every reason you could possibly hate a person. Just.... a really good villain. Man, I hate that guy. XD

This film isn't just about fish sex either. It's a period piece set in 1962 and they remind you of this. It's about inequality and bigotry as well, with reminders of sexism and racism and homophobia. You see the daily struggles of these non-normative characters and it's just... so real but still so unreal!

I heard a while back there was to be a remake of Splash! with a male mer, and now I'm wondering... was this it? Or is that a separate thing? Because there certainly are parallels, and that's another of my favorite movies. :3

These past few months have been shit. I've been more anxious and avoidant than ever(losing a friend to drugs and alcohol - he's not dead but turned into a complete and utter jerk because of it - certainly kills a lot of trust in other humans), I feel like shit about it, and I need to change things up.

I don't think I'll be taking commissions in the coming year. I'd like to set up some sort of thing on Patreon or similar. I think it'd be easier for me to try to pull in some extra cash from what I really want to be doing - my JP fanworks and other personal weirdness. I don't know, it's just.... easier to draw/write for myself than for others? I guess I just have very specific things I want to express these days. I'll get back to those who have sent notes and see what I can do for those who've already asked, but after that I think I need a break from custom art for the foreseeable future.

Oh, and you probably want to know my thoughts about the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer. Frankly, I'm dismayed. I don't like the whole volcano thing. It just makes me think of all the natural disaster movies I've hated through the years, and I don't know about you all but I don't watch Jurassic movies to see dinosaurs DIE. :( And it looks like a lot will. POSSIBLY REXY. :C I'm not the only one terrified that they'll kill off Rexy, either, there's plenty of folks posting on Tumblr about that. And DO NOT get me STARTED on their shitty gator-headed "Baryonyx," which in reality was a fish-eater with LONG JAWS that was unlikely to menace humans(had they lived at the same time).

What I DO like: Baby Blue! And Blue reuniting with Owen. Also Claire seems almost likeable in the trailer, so maybe I won't barf if she and Owen get back together. And the Carnotaurus looked great until Rexy immediately took him out(this also make me sad, I love my most derpy of theropods). I've also heard hints that Laura Dern knows something about this movie and she may or may not come back as Ellie? If so... well, you know what I'm going to say but I'll say it anyway: Alan and Ellie are true fucking soulmates and it was a fucking disaster that they split them up in the third film. If Ellie comes back, she'd damned sure better be married to Alan, and I'll give them mad bonus points if they hint at their 3-ways with Ian. (And I really hope Lucy is their daughter but I'm not getting my hopes up.)

I guess a lot of my concerns here stem from the fact that, to me, JP3 felt like a betrayal after the first two were so wonderful. It killed a lot of my trust in the franchise and the first JW didn't really gain it back completely. But I could be wrong about this sequel. It's sad, though, that I feel like I need to wait for spoilers before even deciding if I want to see it.

Since my own theory is that he killed himself immediately after JP3 and it looks like they don't want Sam back anyway... I might be done with the series. If it's true that JP3 is no longer canon, he better be fucking married to Ellie goddammit.

Claire could get hit by a meteor and die for all I care. She's no Ellie and her shoes are stupid. :I I don't think she's a good match for Owen either. He should be with Blue. :P

My oldest cat, Spunky, has passed away. She was having seizures real bad and howling in pain tonight, so we got ahold of a vet for emergency midnight euthanasia. Since we knew she had a brain tumor, we knew this would probably be inevitable, but it's still painful. She is with her sister now in the kitty cat afterlife, and no longer suffering. I will miss her so much. :(

So, last year some time, I found the complete collection old Jurassic Park trading cards that I amassed as a kid. All 88.

Well, I'm an asshole to myself apparently, and I donated them with a bunch of stuff to the Salvation Army.

So, I just re-bought them on ebay for $12. Honestly thought they'd cost a ton of money and I wouldn't be able to afford em, but... only $12! For all 88! Not bad. Got a piece of nostalgia coming in the mail soon! Gonna hold onto THIS set, REALLY tight!

Today my 16-year-old cat, Spunky, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The vet can't really do much for her, and suggested we put her down today, but we just couldn't. She doesn't seem to be in pain, just really disoriented and partially blind, but at home we've been keeping her very comfortable. She's just been my best little buddy for so long, it's going to be hard to lose her. We'll see what happens in the next few days... if she does start to show signs of pain, we may have to reconsider.... it's not a thing I look forward to. :/ It's been rough.

Gonna try and get back to commission notes and finally work on some of that, it might just help keep my mind off things a bit. Just, ah... bear with me. Not trying to ignore anyone, I'm just a bit of a mess lately. D: Or... still? Because I'm often a mess. Anyway, apologies for being a basket case. :B
