I will be archiving journals and images here. All the images have been moved to scraps. My email will eventually be phased out, but for now that will not change.
My production email is bluecanarycharacters@gmail.com.

Posted 13 years agoI am contemplating a new account to move my costuming work to. All my journals and images will remain here, but everything will be moved to scraps.
I'll make an announcement soon.

I don't want to sleep.
Posted 13 years agoI'm tired of feeling sick in the morning from either allergies or my stomach. This morning wasn't too bad, but I'll see how tomorrow goes. Staying up for a bit in the meantime.
I need to keep my message clients offline today.
Posted 13 years agoI'll be involved with a few projects today, and need to keep my IM programs offline. If you need to get a hold of me, either send a text or an email to chillymouse@gmail.com. Next month is going to be insanely busy.
Sleeping issues.
Posted 13 years agoIt must have taken 2.5 hours to fall asleep last night. This is between Robert's work phone beeping at me, him stealing the covers, excited about today, and just in general having trouble sleeping. I woke up several times because of this also (probably four).
When I wake up I experience either nausea, allergies attacking my face, or feeling out of it. If I get up and move around I can avoid the allergies. I'm not pregnant, so I have no idea why over the past few months I feel nauseous. Does anyone else deal with that, or know why it happens (or even how to prevent it)?

Text me if you need me tonight.
Posted 13 years agoI plan on sewing until midnight. If anyone needs me, message my phone. I need to turn off my message clients for tonight.
Guests at conventions.
Posted 13 years agoI wonder why certain individuals are picked for events. Is it because of the industry they work in? Fan favorites? Good speaker? Well known performer? Well known artist? The list goes on.
I'll look at a guest line up and wonder about this at times.

Crazy glue and claws.
Posted 13 years agoI ended up losing a bunch of work yesterday. I purchased some crazy glue at a Michael's yesterday. It blend into my markings on white fur I was working with, and it smells like fumes. Washing it only did so much.
I have to carefully remove the nice 3D pads and redo the entire glove set. I'm sticking to hot glue. This was aggravating.

Shit Country Fillies Say
Posted 13 years agoDSM visited yesterday. I've heard a hand full of these, and he was amused as well. I did have to look up rotel dip, and ask what muddin' was.
Furry cons...
Posted 13 years agoFCN and AC...who's going?
Posted 13 years agoI'll be making sushi for FCN and working Ops for AC. Going to either? Staffing, dealer, attending, running around in a costume? Give a shout here.

What are your favorite clothes to use with a partial suit?
Posted 13 years agoI thought about their earlier. I usually see people in t-shirts and shorts. For those of you who have a partial suit, what do you like to use?
Awesome quote from earlier.
Posted 13 years agoI brought a head in to be groomed today. A little girl, who was probably four years old, looked through the window. She asked her dad (who told me shortly after), "Where's the rest of the dog?"
I managed to also make a little kid of 14 months laugh hysterically earlier while in a Jason's Deli by pretend sneezing and hiccuping. The simple things in life are awesome.

Observations from repair jobs for those into costuming.
Posted 13 years agoI was asked recently why I don't post more new suit pictures. The reason is besides working on costumes from scratch, I fix projects for others, and I also make props. Some projects are hard to show, even if something may take me 30+ hours to work on.
If you are sewing something black, it hides more thread colors. Use darker ones that are a slightly contrasting color, such as a dark blue, or a dark green. If you are sewing something white, your best bet is to use white, or anything very very faint (like an egg shell color).
This stuff is not shoe soling: http://www.amazon.com/We-Sell-Mats-...../dp/B003RCY9UA
This is: http://soletech.com/products/Gum-Crinkle.html
If you are not sure what Soletec is, talk to people who make and fix real shoes. They're called cobblers, and any shoe repair shop is your best resource. Ask about crepe. There are many kinds. I like luna textured nine iron.
When using hot glue, if it's on the surface, get it off. White fur will hide it, but when fixing something I can still feel it. It's also a pain if you are shaving fur, and it damages your nice expensive (or even cheap) clippers.
Sports wide tooth zippers are my favorite. They're easier when dealing with faux fur with long hairs verses a smaller tooth. They're not usually very expensive, and fabric stores generally carry them.
Matte spray is awesome. If you use buckram for your eye backings, spray it on both sides. It'll be a life saver in the end.
Thinning sheers. They run between $20 - $100+. They're excellent for small detailing. I love them! If you want to fade long fur into short, pick up a pair. If you're not sure how to use them, stop by a local dog groomer shop to show you. You can learn in less than a minute.
Hem. It'll save the life of your fabric.
Fabric dryer sheets. When you transport a suit after use, put them in your suit. When you make a duct tape dummy, put them in your dummy. I love these things.
Foamies are awesome for structure. They do not make good eyes, noses, teeth, claws, paw pads, ect. I've torn that stuff out of so many heads.
Paper does make make good eyes, but it's great for making mock-ups. Get a nice durable plastic. I love using plastic from garbage cans. It sounds weird, but the plastic used for them are durable.
If anyone has a question, want me to add a topic, or elaborate on anything I wrote about leave a reply.

Pricing suggestions needed.
Posted 13 years agoI recently finished fixing up two halves of a positive mascot head to be vacuformed. The pieces I need have been pulled and ready to be shipped. I asked the company if they can hold onto my positives for a few months in case a local theme park is interested in having a replacement Easter Bunny made (their current one looks very creepy). It would save on shipping to have them hold onto it to save on shipping just in case.
I was sent an invoice, as well as a question regarding if someone was interested in a copy of it may I give my permission to let me vacuform more of them. I would be paid, but I am not sure what to charge for it. This is something I normally do not charge for.
Keep in mind if this company created something for a client from scratch it would be $100/hour.

How'd you guys stumble upon my little spot on FA?
Posted 13 years agoI had a few folks add me. Some names I recognize, and some are new. I'm curious what drew you over here? Feel free to introduce yourself.
Hanging out in PA.
Posted 13 years agoI'm currently hanging out up north by friends. At the moment I'm watching Giza kill zombies. Good times.
I'll be back on the 9th. Been project managing what I can from up here and working on portable projects. I got two special requests for projects (a tail and a surprise for someone) while up here. Both shouldn't take me too long to do, but the surprise one will be fun to research.
Giving Ihop a call tomorrow for the incoming group. I think we're up to 15 people for breakfast at this point.
