Question for anyone watching: What's your opinion on taking pictures of suiters without first making it obvious you're doing so? Most cons seem to have the rule written that photos will be taken so expect it, but at AC this year one person got really upset I started before they gave a positive 'yes.' It seems counterproductive in the extreme in a con like AC if people want to see pics of themselves to insist that pics only be taken with the express permission of the fursuiter. The con rules said that pictures will be taken and if people don't want it to happen, they have to say 'no' rather than expecting nothing to happen unless they say 'yes.' I got stressed because of that altercation and didn't get as many individual suiters' pictures this year as I usually do (I think), and I think that makes it unfair on all the people who WANT pictures taken of them but maybe can't hear or are in a hurry but still appreciate people like me who post so many and such a varied list.

I mean, this person knew I was taking pictures because I turn my camera volume up to let them know. Again, I felt it was a bit against the public spirit to get so worked up. It was early in the con, too, so I wonder how they managed when there were hundreds of cameras around, most silent, and a large number of people with GoPros constantly running.

AC is in about a month and as usual I'm posing my begging segment looking for a trustworthy and not easily distracted fur to handle for me in quadsuit. It's mostly watching out, putting the straw in when I need water, and helping me into the suit. I don't quad for long, so at most it's an hour out of con time and I'd appreciate it a whole lot! =^-^= I've never gotten to quadsuit at AC, and I'd probably also stay in the Westin (DLCC halls ... so long O-O ) If we're both feeling adventurous (and you have the time), I might try to make the trek out to DLCC and the big hall, but not any further than the far elevator. I'm kind of fanatical about not breaking character when I can avoid it, and that means no standing up for the kitty unless he's attacking!

That's right! They need a panda, and they've decided they aren't getting a real one so they're hiring someone to wear a realistic animatronic panda suit. Sounds like a heck of an internship :-D

It was a minor thing and probably most people who were there have already forgotten, and I know it's been a few months but it's been bothering me. I want to apologize to anyone who was discomforted by the argument and discussion that briefly caused a problem in the video game room at IFC - I think it was Saturday evening.

I can't speak for the others who were there, but for myself I was a bit at loose ends from just having left my job and my community to move from Indiana to Pennsylvania and I was desperately missing some of the conversations I used to have with my coworkers back there. The conversation we were having was a poor replacement, but it was the best I'd gotten for a few weeks. If I'd been in my normal frame of mind at a con then I wouldn't have even started talking to them and I certainly would have walked out rather than stayed past the first person asking us to leave. I know I wasn't the principle instigator and I doubt things would have gone much differently had I left, but I still feel bad. I might have also expressed myself clumsily in my attempt to scold the principle of the disturbance and in doing so accidentally made it sound as if I was agreeing with him. My point was not that he was superior and so should exercise restraint but that IF HIS CLAIM WAS TRUE and he had as much influence as he said he did - even at the time I thought he was sorely mistaken and now I'm sure of it - then his behavior would be even more out of line than it already was.

Like I said, I doubt it's crossing other peoples' minds now and even more I suspect I won't reach the people I'd like to apologize for, but I wanted to put it out there. Especially to the young lady who asked us to leave the first time. The worst part is that I almost never talk to that guy because I know it's all going to go wrong, but I was lonely and got pulled in. I hope it didn't ruin your evening at the con, and if I see you in person, I'd like to make it up to you.

With folders I can finally stop putting less popular GIFs in scraps and so many other things. Huzzah!

Finally done with my AC 2015 Thurday GIF uploads. Thursday accounted for about 50 folders, Friday 137, Saturday about 40, and Sunday 105, and it took about a month to upload them all at what I think was a reasonable pace.

The question then is, what next? Do people want to see AC Friday? IFC Thursday? Also, I haven't uploaded to the Flickr pool or Facebook because I prefer to have the GIF links for them so people can move from the picture to the GIF of it. Is that OK with everyone? It means both AC and IFC probably won't show up on FB or Flickr for a long time yet, though I'll upload all the Thursday AC soon since it's now done and I can link.

Looking for preferences! I know people can go to the Dropbox now to get pics of themselves, but would you prefer I just upload now to FB for instance and merely include a note that a GIF will occur at some point?

Had dinner last night at a restaurant that occupies the space that used to be the StarToons animation studio. One of the former animators took us out there last night. Fun conversation and good food! Unfortunately my mom was less interested in talking Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, and the history of 2-D animation than I was so we only did for about 2/3rds of the convo :p

This was the most fun I’ve had at a furry con ever! I only wish I’d been able to quadsuit, but you can’t have everything and even taking that out, it scored easily 9/10 for enjoyability. All scores relative to their kind of convention, but even taking it over the course of 18 years of going to various cons, I’d say 7 or 8. It’s not GrangeCon, but when you run your own convention you can make it pretty good for yourself ;)

So yeah, I took over 13,000 photos and will be making them into GIFs over the next couple weeks. Links several times in this journal and all my submissions for awhile, so check the folder and the page daily for new content and please ID anyone who I haven’t managed to.

Thursday –
I actually got into town Wednesday for business and stayed in Monroeville, so I could have gotten to the hotel as early as 5:30, but decided to be polite and wait until 8-9. Apparently I shouldn’t have or I should have stayed home the day of the reservations so I could use my faster home computer rather than my clunky workstation to get a Wednesday reservation since there were no parking spaces in the hotel parking lot or minifridges by the time I arrived. The fridge situation affected my suiting since I have a policy of not suiting more than an hour or so after my cooldown vest packs completely melt. I could get them mostly solid by using the empty minibar and an ice bucket overnight, and I might have done better by soaking them, but the upshot was that I never got them fully solid again through the con. That said, I still suited more than I ever have before and every single day, so it wasn’t a terrible bust. Most of my issues at the con were with the Westin, which always seems a tiny bit behind the now predictable crowds. They’re a nice bunch, but perennially underequipped for a full complement of busy and on-the-move guests. Everything else about the hotel was stellar, so it’s still a great place to stay especially for AC.
I didn’t mind the badge line and to me it wasn’t really all that long. On the plus side I got to have a quick chat with  cadpigjr who was nice and I was in Allura very shortly after getting the badge. After a lot of good walking and posing, I was ready to take pics and almost immediately found my crush and favorite performer  Shawshank_Crux (who is very lucky I’m not the stalker type no matter how tempted I am to just follow him around taking pictures). I was more confident and less shy with him than at MFF, but I still can’t quite get up the courage to play around like some suiters or regular congoers do. Out of suit I often feel like I oughtn’t to get too much in the way of suiters interacting with each other. Hopefully next time. Amazingly one of the few – and some of the best – photos of Allura I’ve seen so far was of the one time I decided there was enough space to start twirling the dragon staff. I rarely do tricks with it because I know I could brain someone and even with all my peripheral vision I’d be worried about that.

Friday -
The day went very well, though I had to cut short my time at one of Dr. Gerbasi’s focus groups because I wanted to do the flag photo shoot and the official photo shoot (there weren’t any other days posted in the con book) as well as getting what turned out to be the LAST fursuit badge of Friday! So good! It was also a super heavy day of photo taking and I got over 100 separate events. The only day with more photos was Sunday and for reasons that will be explored there.

Saturday –
Parade time! Which again meant leaving a focus group early :/ It seems like they were scheduled just wrong for me to go to. I also did a writing panel, and I have to say Lunacon and GrangeCon along with the other east coast SF/F cons have spoiled me. The writers at AC are the best the fandom has to offer … but Lunacon back in the day was the best fandom as a whole could do. One day I’ll make it up to Boskone and Arisia where the writers and editors seem to have migrated. ACs group are still entertaining and give good advice, but not really a dab hand on the literary experience of Lunacon.
The parade was a blast. I ended up being blocked by a hat in the group photo, but that happens. I saw  Thumpie_Bunny_Eve before and after, but only had the courage to talk to her after the parade. She was graceful and nice despite the strain of the parade and obviously not up for conversation, so I’ll be sure to catch her beforehand if there’s a next time.

Sunday –
I didn’t expect to take so many photos, but I did. Of course a lot of them were of the yellow balloon cat, but even discounting his fun frolics I got a lot of photos in. The wind down of the con was if anything more fun than anything else as the furs all rushed to do as much as they could. I even made it to the Crux meet to embarrass Shawshank with as much praise as I could heap on him.

Monday – The AC MIRACLE
OK, it’s not much of a miracle. I went up in the elevator to my floor, went in, put my boxes on my cart, went back, and the elevator was still there. Not so impressive given that I get up early and it was something like 7-8 when I did this. On the other hand, there were already fursuiters in the lobby.

All in all, a very very good furcon. I’ll be moving to Pittsburgh at the end of the month and hopefully will make it to next AC with a quadsuit handler and a minifridge. With those two things (and maybe a parking space in the hotel!) I can probably make AC16 into the best furcon ever. Didn't get a minifridge at the Westin? Get the key to your minibar from the front desk, fill the ice bucket, and put it inside. The ice bucket will turn it into a refrigerator. Replace ice once daily. Though mine lasted almost 36 hours without the ice fully unfreezing, I did notice that it wasn't as cool, so every 24 hrs is optimal.

Things I've learned while making the commercial for the Dakimakura:

1. Daria really does have bad eyesight. It's no wonder she wears glasses.

2. Weather is a jerk. When the humidity is over 60% and there's no direct sunlight I get screwed both directions.

3. My fursuit photography room is too small to do a sexy walk without tripping over something. Especially if I've never tried wearing spike heels and a fursuit head before. Apparently that messes everything up. Though I'd also never work spike heels and D-cups, so that could have messed me up as well.

4. Daria's still sexy

5. Robes that come with sashes but no loops don't work well

6. Lion tails mess up your silhouette if you want people to look at how naturally rounded your butt is (so I took it off before filming)

7. Tricot is slippery when you have paw gloves!

8. My webcam claims to be HD, but what it actually does is films really low quality in high pixel sizes.

9. I really miss my old video editing software. Windows Live Movie maker sucks, but I was afraid my Windows XP version of it wouldn't be able to handle the quality of the GOOD camera's video stream

10. Daria is sexy even in low quality and when she isn't wearing her corset.

11. Doing all this by myself is a pain and lowers quality (I wonder if there are any maskers in the Pittsburgh area for when I decide do a second!)
