Animals and real world countries in the PCA-
Posted 15 years agoThe thought has occurred often enough, but at the moment so much crap's piled up right in front of me that I feel the need to bring it up again... Why the crap is it that when the subjects of real world locations and animals existing in the PCAverse is brought up, it's so often met with disapproval or people suggesting we tiptoe around the subject and don't dare to touch it? There isn't a single incarnation of Pokemon that doesn't include them. Shit, here are a number of examples.
Real World Locations:
Antarctica: Regice is said to be made of Antarctic ice.
Australia: Ponyta's pokedex entry says it can jump over Ayer's Rock.
China: Arcanine appears in legends. Parasect's spores are used for medicine.
England: In the anime Misty has mentioned England.
France: Ponyta's pokedex entry says it can jump over the Eiffel Tower. In the anime Misty has mentioned wanting to go to Paris.
Japan: In the games, one Guitarist trainer claims the guitar is actually a Japanese instrument. In the anime, James said that the Fuschia City Gym looked like a Japanese restaurant.
Mexico: In the anime, Meowth has inquired about Mexican wrestler movies.
Mt. Everest: Multiple pokedex entries state that a Delibird helped a famous explorer reach the top.
Pacific Ocean: Multiple pokedex entries state Poliwrath can swim across the Pacific.
Russia: Silph Co. is stated to have a branch in Tiksi, Russia.
South America: The journal entries in the Pokemon Red and Blue versions say that Mew is from Guyana, SA. FireRed also sates Mew is from South America. Jessie's mother was also reportedly sent to South America to try to find Mew in the anime, and it is likely where the scientists went in Mewtwo Strikes Back. Multiple pokedex entries mention Xatu being related to South American mysticism.
United States: Lt. Surge is known as 'the Lightning American" in the games. In the anime, a character named Melvin says he wants to make it to Las vegas in English, or Broadway in Japanese. In the anime, Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison are both mentioned. Hollywood has also been mentioned in the anime. Mewtwo appears to be standing over New York City in the end of "Mewtwo Returns," while it is stated he went off to a far away land.
Real World Animals
In General: Regular animals were a common occurance all over in the "Pokemon Pocket Monsters" manga. In the games, pokemon are often classified as being 'cat' pokemon, 'fox' pokemon, 'lion pokemon,' etc...
Mammals: Raichu and Gastly's pokedex entries mention Indian elephants. A cat is in concept art for Pallet Town. A dog is in a picture book based on the anime. In the anime Ash has worn a spotted cow costume. In the anime Misty compared AJ's whipping of his pokemon to a lion tamer. In the anime, a Gastly turned into a Zangoose to scare Jessie's Ekans. Reindeer are mentioned in the anime when they see Santa's sleigh, though it's stated he has none. In the anime tigers have been in pictures. Muskrats have also been mentioned in the anime as an ingredient in "muskrat meatballs." Normal dog barks have also been heard in the background in the anime. In the "How I Became a Pokemon Card" manga a cat has appeared. Mice and shrews were the prey of the Bellsprout line at the Safari Zone in the "Pokemon Adventures" manga.
Birds: Normal birds could both be seen and heard regularly in the background in the anime early on, especially in morning scenes. A bird is perched on Weepinbell in one card.
Sea Creatures (Inc. sea mammals): In RBY on the S.S. Anne, the chef mentions both eels and salmon. In the anime various real world fish, mostly tropical, appear in the Cerulean City Gym in most of its appearances. In the anime fish are also seen swimming around the sunken St. Anne and in aquariums. In the anime James has held up a lobster. The characters have been seen eating shrimp tempura in the anime. In the anime when a fish escaped from Misty's line, Ash said it was probably a catfish. Fish and whales were seen in the Cerulean Gym in the "Electric Tale of Pikachu" manga. Fish appear in a few pokemon cards' art. In the "Let's Find Pokemon! 3" book, Kangaskhan is eating a fish.
Bugs: In the anime Ash calms Misty about bug type pokemon by stating "they're not real bugs, they're different!" Pidgeotto has been seen eating normal worms. Meowth has mentioned insects in the anime. A snail appears in the "Pokemon Get da ze!" manga. In the cards an insect is seen by Bulbasaur, a frog is beside Oddish, a wasp in by Venonat, and butterflies are around Slowpoke. In the "Let's Find Pokemon!" book both a dragonfly and a worm are seen.
And don't get me started on religion. Why on Earth does everybody have to worship Arceus? Ever notice that Ash and company had never even heard of the faith that did until they reached Sinnoh? There are so many creation myths tossed around in pokemon it's ridiculous. Even the data on Arceus never explicitly states that it DID form the Universe, just that some people believed it did. While real world religions have at least been referenced, including Christianity. Welp, I close this rant with this picture.

Some changes.
Posted 15 years agoYeah some more alterations are going down. I hope to be putting up more profiles and stories soon, and if Pike's removal worries... Don't let it concern you much. Pike's not gone, and two Supiaa's will be coming up soon. The family's getting a bit of an overhaul to make them a bit more usable and as a favor to 
jazzfoxrules, it shouldn't hurt anything on a wide scale PCA-wise but I wound up looking over the stories and realizing how much of them involved a Pike who isn't quite Pike anymore. As well as story arcs that are pretty much gone after going incomplete anyway, which just doesn't sit right with me.
One thing that feels a little weird as I look over my roster... I don't have any teams anymore. XD My only characters who are even on teams are Penny and Paz, who are both in collab teams with other members of the PCA. Oh well.
So yeah, short version: My gallery's just getting cleaned up and expect some more shit soonish... Pike's not going anywhere and Penny still used to date Joshua Garkirl.

No apologies, no niceness, it should have been something big and interesting for the students to be stuck getting involved with whether they cared or not. I'm still kinda pissed at how the PCA community responded to that event, honestly... And how it wound up never going anywhere until the administration was given the forced boot. So much for having people DO SOMETHING with their characters to effect the setting as a whole. =/
Honestly though, I think the biggest problem stemmed from the simple fact that people were so full of butthurt and baww over it all. Nobody really drew or wrote about their characters in-class so honestly it didn't effect artistic creativity in the slightest unless the participants went out of their way to make it do so. Yet that was exactly what the spearheads of the groups against the event said it was doing. And it was stated to be an event to begin with, not a permanent change. But people flipped their shit, they kicked, they whined, they made spinoffs that just kind of crashed and died while focusing on specific details that made it all oh-so-obviously furry... (Seriously, people need to know what the principal's dick looks like and its precise dimensions?)
Honestly I think that reaction is a big part of why the PCA admins of the time suddenly stopped doing... Anything. Why things ground to a halt. Because they were afraid of people flipping out, like what tends to happen at every little thing. The funny part was people accusing the event of being something that never would have happened had EbonyLeopard still been in charge, but if I remember correctly the event was largely his idea and had his full support. He even wanted to design the school uniforms. ... In fact I think he did. But it's been a while.
In short, I wish people weren't such little bitches and we could actually DO things with the setting again. Here's to hoping that in the future any events the current admins might throw out don't get so pointlessly assaulted. Or even that if they do, the admins can suck it the hell up and still do things and make things progress for those of us who want to do more than kick at the ground and scream.
EDIT: Ah-ha... So far I've gotten two "high rollers" contacting me agreeing with this, who apparently don't feel comfortable posting here for one reason or another. Probably all about potential for drama with things like how blunt I got in my wording some places. Oh well, least I know I'm not the only person thinking this.

gigglepca over this last week so I haven't really been around... And now these next 30+ hours are about to be dedicated to driving him back to California and driving myself back home afterward. Fun times! But anyway, once I'm back and have time handy, I kind of have a job interview on Wednesday and am hoping to get home and get the sleep to get there on time... I'll be throwing together a Halloween story or two to put up a few nights late.

Posted 15 years agoGot asked about this earlier today, and the reason I don't normally pop up in the IRC is because IRC clients work like shit on my computer for some reason. I constantly get disconnected and it kinda makes for not so fun times, ya know? Also, as to not bump away the content of my last journal...
I don't normally do this but... With how the financial world has been hitting some of us these days, these friends are trying to do commission work or selling some adoptables, maybe some of you guys could toss some love in the form of cashmonies.

Posted 15 years agoSo, though it's not going to effect much I figured I'd announce it. I'm gonna be trying to update profiles to get rid of the nude references being the main images. But they're still gonna be around, planning to host them elsewhere and link to them within the profile, or in the case of those that are uploaded onto the site already just give a link to the nude ref in the other person's gallery. Nude references are great things to have but it feels kinda odd to go back into my scraps and note so many blue borders. For all I know a number of PCAers can't even see them. Eh, that's all.
Halloween in Viridian...
Posted 15 years agoI don't think we've really covered much on how Viridian City itself celebrates Halloween. We've had stories at parties and template pictures, but nothing that seems to describe the activities in-town. ... Call me crazy, but I would love to see Halloween treated as a bigger, more generalized holiday~

Posted 15 years agoAs of Sunday I've been jobless. It's actually proven quite useful to have this free time... Suddenly my deck si finally being cleaned, the bathroom's getting a thorough once-over tomorrow, I've got a computer desk again so I don't have to destroy my knees sitting on the floor or be outright uncomfortable physically and mentally in those tiny chairs upstairs using the laptop at the kitchen table, soon I'll be setting up to finally get a real bed again after not having one for almost a full year, and getting ready to assemble my bookshelf.
Got enough money stored away thanks to the paychecks, cashed in vacation time, and my sister owing me for paying for her cat's surgery a year back to live these two months comfortably and if all goes well unemployment will pick up in four to six weeks and give me half a year to find a new job, ultimately only paying me a couple hundred less than I made working at the store if their estimates were accurate. Here's to hoping things go smoothly, if they I've got nothing to worry about and might actually be better able to save up and utilize my cash. Just gonna be careful as all hell until the unemployment flows and actually proves to be as much as it's supposed to.

But I got bored and wasted time to figure some things out so anybody who wants to see this doesn't have to. http://www.legendarypokemon.net/bw-stats This site lists the new base stats for species in Black/White, if you scroll over to the right it also lists their abilities and any Dream World exclusive abilities.
Some are old, but many are brand new. Some are even going to be exclusive to a select few older generation pokemon. For example, Scizor, Registeel, and the Metagross line are a trio in which a new, unidentified ability is going to be exclusive for. Another example is that Dragonite and Lugia will share a new ability nobody else can get. Anyway, any abilities that weren't in the older generations are only listed as a number code here. None of them speak out to me like "hey, make a character out of meeeeee~" What about you guys, fellow PCAers?
PCA~ (One of my few important messages.)
Posted 15 years agoPeople have been saying this shit's been dying for three years now. ... So where is it? At the moment after some talks I can't help but feel annoyed but also kind of amused by this fact. People have probably said it even longer than that, perhaps since its very conception. Yet it remains a place for people to hang out and socialize.
People pay too much attention to groupings and ideas they make up in their own heads. The fact of the matter is that when you join the PCA you do so as an equal with a huge number of peers at your disposal to talk to and interact with. I only apologize that I'm so unreliable for steady contact here on FA and resultingly don't have such a strong personal link to much of the community. But still in the end of the day, "hey, they're a PCAer. Rad."
In short? Setting's not going away any time soon. People need to stop bitching about other groupings of friends and learn to be light hearted and willing to go with the flow. Nobody really forces anything on people here and it's a fun and easy place for any pokemon nerds to go to just kinda hop into a community. The PCA hub is officially three years and a month old, and the project itself was born around January 21st, 2007, at the very latest based on
KaeMantis submitting Weaver and becoming the third member. Making it at least three and a half. Here's to hoping to a nice and long future with many new members continuing to flow in and some great times for everyone willing to have them.

Posted 15 years agoSeems like an entertaining enough method of occupying time, interacting with people, and building relationships both good and bad between characters. So think I'll finally take part in one of these PCA contests. But a debate has occured, which character to throw in. =/ The choice would seem obvious, eh? But not quite.
At first it was a big debate between Pike, Chris, Penny, and Sugar, but for various reasons mostly revolving around wanting to have characters who could help create some good conflict outside of the ring and an interesting fight it's wound up coming down to Penny and Sugar. But it's so deadlocked I'm not sure how to choose, so I wanna get outside opinions here. Here are some details on the two that make them good competitors against each other in my head:
Penny:
Pros:
-Arrogant, loud, confrontational, eccentric, she could really make for someone who could at least stir up a reaction and interact with others easily. Hell, her personality and attitude has even caused some conflicts and clashes outside of the ring.
-As a character she is running a team and a sorority, trying to pass herself off as high and mighty for her future so it wouldn't be too odd for her to sign up for this just in hopes of her, her team, or her sorority getting some bragging rights.
-She's a pretty good fighter with great defenses, even means of counteracting her species' one big weakness. On top of that she's got some good variety to her attacks that allow her to at least normally damage everything, making her an adaptable tank fighter.
-She's well established and among my characters is definitely the best known... Probably making it easier for anyone I may get partnered up with to write for her.
Cons:
-Overused, i mean seriously.
-Although not entirely standard and able to adapt, her fighting style isn't all that unique usually so fights would likely more rely on dialogue between combatants and eccentric uses of things.
Sugar:
Pros:
-Underused and in need of some more exposure and development. Probably wouldn't hurt for me to finally get a picture done of her that isn't a nude, either.
-Has a more unique fighting style that could make for some interesting fights. Especially with attempts to use it to overcome her multiple weaknesses.
Cons:
-Her move pool is thrown together horribly for focused combat. It's never been her biggest concern and she has no defensive attacks while her offensive attacks are limited in variety. She mostly uses buffs and debuffs. This point is partly counteracted by the fact it could be a fun challenge to figure out ways for her to overcome said weaknesses.
-Her little exposure means people could have trouble writing for her, though this could also be countered somewhat by the fact she's an actress who is constantly putting on a false face and role for fun.
-The way she is makes it hard to figure out out-of-battle interaction that isn't with her fellow actors or at a party.

I also don't have any groups on teams that are completely owned by me, everyone's either indie or on a collab team so I guess I'll separate by grade. Characters who are underlined don't have profiles put up yet because I haven't wound up grabbing colored reference images for them yet so I haven't bothered throwing up their profiles yet. Amy being the exception, throwing her profile up some time today.

-Agaris Perjan (F, Meowth) is single, straight, a bit of a bitchy Egypto-goth kitty, and isn't actively looking.

Posted 16 years agoPut it up on my main FA, but not this one... Yeah, last two weeks have been spent moving to Washington state and getting things set up. Finally have net access, could be here anywhere from two to four months before ideally heading on to my own apartment in a town I actually love as opposed to the boring place I am now. Still, when I can get out there with friends around here, it's been fun.
A bit... Brain dead feeling to really get to what I wanna get to with getting through submissions and journals just now. But should be getting on track soon here...

Hmm... A dilemma.
Posted 16 years agoSo I've been a little held up with uploading profiles to my scraps due to the fact I'm trying to put each one up with a good reference image of the character. I've come across the fact that I outright lack usable shots of certain characters, such as Ross, (One extra character or something should be alright, but his only picture is a tyeam group shot.) and then there are a few that I'm hesitant to put up simply because they do have some great color, solo pictures of them but they happen to be nudes.
Sure, I commissioned most of said nude shots and do love them. I'm fine with seeing the nudity, the porn that goes up that's PCA-based. Hell I typically enjoy it. XD But considering the porn is far from what the PCA is about, and it's most certainly not what my characters are all about, I'm hesitant to put up the nude shots as the profile images.
What thinks ye', anybody who might be reading this journal entry? Should I just use what I've got now?
Sure, I commissioned most of said nude shots and do love them. I'm fine with seeing the nudity, the porn that goes up that's PCA-based. Hell I typically enjoy it. XD But considering the porn is far from what the PCA is about, and it's most certainly not what my characters are all about, I'm hesitant to put up the nude shots as the profile images.
What thinks ye', anybody who might be reading this journal entry? Should I just use what I've got now?
