Checking in
General | Posted 8 years agoHello climbers!
First I wanted to thank you all for the new watches and apologize for being inactive with the account. Ill occasionally check it for new watches, shouts or if there is something I want to announce.
Have you all been getting on the rocks lately?
I myself have started getting back into climbing after a long break. Mostly just doing indoor bouldering once to three times a week, but I have my eyes set to do some more outdoor bouldering in the near future!

yoogainRemember that climbing wall at the super bowl that was mentioned a few weeks ago? It has found a permanent home in Phoenix, Arizona. It is so heart warming to see a good wall go to such a loving home. If only more cities would adopt walls. I wonder how they moved that thing?
http://www.azcentral.com/story/news.....wall/24027377/
Here is a cool video of some guy crushing a v12 and v13. Im blown away with the rock quality and dynamics of these routes he is climbing. ID is definitely on my list of places to go climb.
http://climbingnarc.com/videos/home-sweet-nowhere/
If you're like me you have a hang board sitting around in your garage and have so far broken many things trying to hang it up someplace. Here is a quick video with some smart tricks to take into consideration before you go drilling holes into your walls and breaking things.
This video made me laugh because I don't understand the purpose of that rope when you are basically doing a free solo. I guess it is just so they can pull your corpse up if you fall? This guy is a lunatic and very entertaining. Definitely made my hands sweat watching this one.

General | Posted 11 years agoSo I want to open this weekly post with some suggestions about crack climbing (hand jams, foot jams, and finger jams). Personally I continue to struggle making any progress on the crack in the gym because I just feel I am going to break something when I push myself. Do you face the same problem I do or have you gotten the hang of it? Any tips for the other climbing furs would be appreciated in the comments. :D
Speaking of crack climbing Utah is perhaps one of the most notorious places to go, and I wish I could stop to climb there this week when I go but it is strictly a snowboarding trip (I know, sad sad life...). Here is a video showing the great quality of rock, beautiful scenery, and cool locals working their magic on these magnificent, elegant, and ominously intimidating climbs.

Here's a video of a Black Diamond climber doing some cool stuff. He almost gets taken out by a huge rock that gets broken off by his rope. Definitely worth a watch. He tells a pretty cool story.

If you are like me you may not have time or money to climb in the gym as of recently. Perhaps you also are getting into yoga instead to stay strong for the outdoors. Either way, here are some yoga poses that are supposed to strengthen those crucial muscles you use during climbing.
http://www.climbing.com/skill/question-of-balance/
Here's Chris Sharma talking about why yoga is good for warming up. He also gives some pretty good tips.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JCXQCUz0Pg
I found a list that cracked me up, because I relate to most of these.
TOP SIGNS YOU BEEN CLIMBING TO LONG:
You go to church and scout out routes to the ceiling
You climb your friends fireplace
You know how to get on your roof without a ladder
You begin buying your shoes 2 sizes too small out of habit
You get mad of having to spend £40 on a pair of Levi's, but don't mind spending £200+ for a pair in Gore-tex
You have no idea why your hands are bleeding
You aerate your lawn with your crampons
Your climbing equipment is worth more than your car
You give up a decent job so you can climb more
You blow a good marriage so you can climb more
Your body is worn out and you need medical attention, but that would take away from your climbing time, so you continue to hobble
When you can't climb, you stoop so low as to read rec.climbing
You insist on eating out in older areas, since the buildings are more "climbable"
Your list of names for future ascents are longer than your list of friends
You remember when the decimal system ended in 5.9
Your ice axe is made of wood
You know you've been climbing too long when you notice that the contents of the relic walls in climbing shops is newer than your own rack.
You remember paying £2 for a biner, but had to make nuts because they were not commercially available
When walking down a cracked sidewalk, you're thinking, "That'll be a good hand hold".
When it hurts to hold onto the steering wheel driving home from climbing
You placed anchors on the side of your 5th floor flat so you could sleep on your porta-ledge on the weekdays.
You bolted the side of your house and It ended up in a local guide book as a 5.9+.

That's all for this week. Go forth and send fellow furs.

This clip makes me laugh the entire time. Its only eight minutes and definitely worth the entire watch! Im surprised it doesn't even have 1000 views yet. Its about spotting. Don't get the impression that spotting is a silly thing though, it can make the difference between an injured or uninjured climber when done right.
Heres something that also made me laugh.

We are going to be starting a weekly journal here on Climbing-furs. Content will consist of pretty much anything we find necissary. Announcements, Shoutouts, videos, links or anything else we find fit.
We will most likely be doing the journals on the weekends Friday - Sunday, so stay tunned! :3
Sincerely,
tophlion

General | Posted 11 years agoYes! Depending on where you live, winter may be already be upon you. For others, like us here in California, it seems to be creeping on slowly. There are many reason why some climbers' favorite season to climb is winter, so we want to know what your reasons are for either liking or disliking it. Do you change your training techniques? What do you prefer to wear? Were you ever caught unprepared by cold weather? Share your tips and thoughts with us here! Feel free to share pics or videos of what the climbing looks like in your area. Also, don't forget to tell us where your favorite place to climb during the winter is! We look forward to seeing what the furry climbers have to share.

General | Posted 11 years agoHey climbers, I am looking for a little help!
I am looking for people to help run the group, this includes managing the group, looking for pictures to favorite (regarding climbing) and look for ways to get our name out there. If you are interested note me :]
