On Writing Books for Children
Posted 2 months agoAs an avid fan of media like Bluey, Thomas and Friends (the GOOD seasons), and the idea of high quality children's media in general, I am FED UP with the sheer quantity of "it's for kids so it doesn't need to be smart" media that's presented as entertainment for children. I'm slowly becoming a writer, and I want to eventually pursue writing books for children, and I am determined to write stories which respect their intelligence. In particular, I want to write stories which are grounded in reality, deal with real-life problems and challenges, and so on.
I know for a fact children are more intelligent than most people give them credit for, and that the existing education systems- where I live, at least- are detrimental to their creativity, intelligence, and imagination. I have first-hand experience of this, because I went through that education system, and looking back on my past, I can see how my imagination and ideas were whittled down to nearly nothing. I genuinely believe one of the few things which kept my imagination active were the realistic, intelligently written stories I had as a kid, and I want to provide stories of my own to others, so they can have the same chances as I did to keep my imaginative mind alive.
Not sure where or when I'll start, but I plan to put some snippets of my stories here. I'll see what comes of it all.
