Commission Updates, Pricing Increase, and Refunds
Posted 6 years agoHey, guys.
First off, I have to continue to thank you for your infinite patience in letting me work to catch up on all these commissions. Many of you have received your commissions. Many of you haven't. But rest assured, I am still busting my butt to get these done for you.
However, this whole situation has come to a head, and I cannot ignore that there is a fundamental problem with my commission process. The truth is, I do not charge enough for my drawings. Never have. And while this worked for a while when my expenses were lower and I had other income options, at this point commissions are my sole means of income, and my expenses have risen.
So far, what I've done is oversold commissions to make ends meet, worked on them until I burned out, and then fell behind while recovering, only to be forced to sell more commissions to pay for the next month, thus compounding the problem. I've tried pre-selling, scheduling, all kinds of things, and none of it has worked to get me over the top of this commission list.
At this point, it's clear that I am simply not charging enough money to cover the labor this work requires. So I have made the decision to increase my prices. This will allow me to take fewer commissions each month, freeing up time to work on existing commissions along with them.
So what does this mean for my current commissioners? I am still committed to finishing your orders, I simply have taken on too many to finish in anything approaching a timely manner. So that's simply a reality for us all at this point. I am not likely to be finished with my current commission list for a couple of months. But I can't afford to not take on new commissions.
So here's the deal: if I've tested your patience long enough and you just want a refund, I completely understand. I am happy to provide a refund to anyone who wants one. I just need to be able to gather the funds to provide them. Any income I make from now on will first and foremost go towards refunding those who ask. But I do hope you can give me a little bit more of your faith. I am not a grifter, I'm just an idiot who bit off more than he could chew. So if you're willing to stick it out, I will get your commissions to you as soon as possible.
My apologies, and thank you for understanding.

Important Commission Pricing Question
Posted 6 years agoWould you buy commissions from me if they were priced $15 - $20 higher than they are now? I really need responses to this. I have a lot of things I need to figure out about the future of my commission career. This will help me immensely.
Commission Situation Redux (I could use some help)
Posted 6 years agoMy mom came home from the hospital after breaking her hip, and I've had to help her out a lot more than we were hoping. As a result, I haven't had nearly enough time to work on commissions.
So, since I still have an extensive backlog of commissions to finish, but need money for rent, I'm taking a risk on posting my October commission form early so that I can have all of September to finish the current list. I hope folks can continue to show the astounding patience they have so far. This situation was in no way my intention, and trust me when I say I'm not trying to grift anyone.
In reality, I probably charge way too little for the work that goes into these commissions. But of course, artists are a dime a dozen, particularly in this community. I'm just trying to make ends meet.
If you like my work and are an incredibly generous person who would like to help me without promise of any reward beyond my undying gratitude, I have shinies enabled on my profile, or you can donate to me directly at this link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webs.....=H9K3TQUZMHJXN
If a donation or purchase isn't in the cards for you, I completely understand. If you would still like to help, a signal boost is always appreciated.

Family Emergency (It's okay now)
Posted 6 years agoHey, everyone. Plan's been delayed a bit. My mom fell and broke her hip at the beginning of the week, and I've been in and out of the hospital handling things, so I've had less time to work on commissions. She's okay now. We're still going through the process of getting her set up at the physical therapy center for the next couple weeks, so I'm still gonna be pretty busy for a couple more days, but I still intend to complete my current commissions by the end of August. I'll just have to crunch more. I am also going to be posting a commission list for anyone who is willing to order early for September. Thank you for your patience.
Commission Calendar Issues and Scheduling Changes.
Posted 6 years agoI've started working part time at my brother's upholstery business, so I haven't had as much time for commissions as I was hoping. So the situation is that I don't think I have any more space for commissions in August given my current backlog. I understand if you don't like the idea of ordering super far in advance, but if anybody is willing to order a commission for September right now, I'd would be happy to take it. It would help me a lot.
If you currently have a commission from me, I working to get the ones remaining from the last calendar done in the next three days, and anything that isn't currently on the commission calendar done by the end of August. My apologies, but hopefully, if I can stabilize my finances with this part time job and maybe a few patient commissioners, I can finally spend the time to catch up to my commission list.
I'm going to change my commission methodology going forward. I've used the specific completion dates as both a reason to dawdle and an excuse to over-book. So for any new commissions I get for September, I am only going to schedule one drawing per day. Hopefully, if I catch up over the course of August, one drawing a day will be enough to keep my bills paid without being too much for me to keep up with.
If you have a specific question for me, please feel free to note me or email me at comfysketches[at]gmail.com

On commissions and burnout.
Posted 6 years agoI've been dealing with a problem for a while now.
Art commissions are my sole means of income, and they have been keeping my bills payed well enough. Theoretically, at my current prices, one or two drawings a day should be enough to keep my bills covered.
The issue is, when I fall behind, the work piles up, and I feel compelled to schedule three or four drawings a day to try to catch up, while selling even more commissions to ensure my bills are handled. Unfortuately, that's a lot of work, and It tends to burn me out quickly, resulting in additional days of missed deadlines, only compunding the problem, leaving me with a commission list full of people who have been waiting several months for their commission, and me scrambling to try to get everyone's drawings done at once.
This method has not been working, so I'm going to try something new. I'm going to open up my commission schedule for April and May at the same time, but I'm only going to schedule $30 worth of commission work per day from new orders.
Hopefully what this will allow me to do is work on the current commission list at a less grueling and more attainable pace, and if there is spill over from the current list, I can work on those commissions alongside the new commissions without suffering burnout, and ya'll get your commissions sooner than you would have if I pushed myself past my breaking point like I have been doing.
After May, if I've caught up to the lighter pace, i can start scheduling a few more commissions per month, while giving myself enough breathing room to handle delays.
Expect the new commission calendar to be posted later today, and thank you for your patience.

Commissions Update
Posted 6 years agoAlright, Kids. We've had progress and setbacks for 2019. I'm doing better now than I was in December in terms of emotional health, so that's good. Hit a few snafus over the course of February thanks to all the rain her in So Cal, so I'm still further back than I wanted to be.
But this is officially the end of the months-long delays that have been happening with my commission list. I've got a professional planner set up + a couple apps on my computer and phone that prevent me from farting around on anything other than drawing during my scheduled work hours.
All of that is to say I'm eternally grateful for the superhuman patience ya'll have had for my nonsense over the past few moments, and I hope once you receive your commissions, they'll be worth the wait.
Thank you.

House Move is FINALLY DONE!!! + Commission Streams
Posted 7 years agoSo that house purchase that's been on and off for two months finally went through, and we only had three days to get moved, so that's what I did with my weekend. On the plus side, we're moved, and house shit can no longer interfere with my work schedule.
On the minus sign, this last house shit HAS interfered with my schedule, so here's what I'm gonna do. Later tonight I'm going to post a schedule of catch-up art streams where ya'll can come in and see me finishing your commissions. That way, I can commit to an event that gets me back on track and ya'll can see I don't just have my thumb up my butt over here.
Watch this space for further details.

Updates on commissions, dog health, and financial worries.
Posted 7 years agoHey folks.
First things first, I'm ready to get back on track finishing this commission backlog, so I'll be posting a schedule soon for ya'll to see when you'll have your commissions coming to you. Watch out for it.
Second things second, my Pocket puppy is doing well. her blood sugar is being well maintained on the current insulin dose and diet, so we're breathing a small sigh of relief there.
Third things third, unfortunately, our funds have been completely wiped out by the combination of an expensive move and this vet fiasco. We are broke. There have been some incredibly generous donations to the ongoing gofundme campaign, but we still ahven't reached our goal, and the great generosity of a few would pail in comparison to the many. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you can spare any money; $15, $10, $5, anything, IT WILL ADD UP TO AN INCREDIBLE HELP.
I cannot overstate this. If each person who follows me donated the cost of one Starbucks coffee to this campaign, then I would be able to know that I can put food in my fridge and keep the lights on for months to come. Signal boosts are wonderful, and I am eternally grateful for them, but they do not help if no one donates. PLEASE, just a few dollars. It will save us from a great deal of struggle and worry.

Dog vet update.
Posted 7 years agoSo I took the dog to the vet, and yes: she was in diabetic ketoacidosis. She's on an IV drip of insulin to get her blood sugar down, and there is going to be quite a lifestyle change around here as a result. She has also developed cataracts because of the DKA so she's going to have to adjust to near blindness, and we're going to have to dog-proof the house so she doesn't hurt herself. Maybe some time down the road I'll be able to afford the $3500 needed to get her surgery to fix that.
Ya'll have shown some insane generosity on the GoFundMe page. We're already over 80% of the way to the original $400 goal. That is so awesome it made me cry. Unfortunately, the estimate for the vet bill is between $900 and $1400. So as much as I can't imagine imposing on my audience's generosity any further, I have increased the GoFundMe goal to $800. I appreciate anything ya'll can give, and I'm thankful for your concern and well-wishes.

When it rains, it floods.
Posted 7 years agoHey, kids. I am incredibly grateful for your patience and good will. I've been having a really tough few months and I guess it's time to lay it out to you guys.
The first buyer's loan fell through, so we had to put the house on the market again. Luckily we got a second buyer right away, but that still means weeks of additional escrow and a much more complicated move. This is all my brothers business, and it's him whose is going to be seeing the profits of this sale. I'm renting a room from him at a ridiculously low rate, taking care of my aging mother, and living off of my brother's generosity as best I can while being as little of a burden as I can.
On top of that, my dog has gotten sick over the last week or so, and now is showing most of the signs of being in the early stages of diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a condition requiring immediate emergency care. Being flat broke, I am not entirely sure how I'm going to provide her that care, and worrying about that and all the other crap going on has eaten into my ability to focus on finishing commissions.
I've been sitting down to work every day, but its been such slow going as I've vacillated through some pretty intense bouts of melancholy. I don't know if I can call it depression because I can honestly say I've never really been depressed before, but this feels like the closest thing to depression I've ever known.
So commissions have been slow in coming. And all of my customers have been insanely patient with me in contacting me about their commissions. But every day I don't finish enough commissions is another day I'm not selling more commissions. And the longer I go without selling commissions, the more commissions I need to sell the next time I manage to catch up with my queue. I've run out of money and I have a pile of work still left to do. Anyone who has bought commissions from me before knows that I may not deliver on-time every time, but I deliver, dammit. And when a customer is unable to accept these delays and asks for a refund, I give them that refund. I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror if I didn't.
But the truth is, right now I have no money. I can't refund anyone. I can't pay my bills. I can't help my dog. But I am still working, however slowly, to try and fulfill the promises I've made to you all. If you read all this and want a refund, I can't give it to you, as much as I would like to. I have a credit score in the low 400s and a work history of two part-time jobs and a decade of bit-rate art selling on the internet. I live in one of the most economically depressed areas of the most expensive state in the Union. I don't have enough money to move to a cheaper state and no prospects anywhere. I am, in simple terms, a failure.
But I'm not giving up. This isn't me asking for pity, and I'm not trying to take advantage of anybody. This is me being as honest as I can with you all, and just maybe telling myself in concrete terms I can't shy away from that I don't know what I'm going to do. Some kind words are appreciated. All I can do is try to keep going forward and trying to get the work done to the best of my ability. Thank you for your patience.
So here's where we get to the part where I lose a lot of you. Because I'm no longer in a position where I can be too proud to ask for help.
I've put together a GoFundMe page here: https://www.gofundme.com/comfycushi.....-survival-fund
I'm asking for $400. That's enough to get me through June, allowing me to focus on catching up on my current commission list, and allowing me to take my dog to the vet.
I have over 4000 people watching my page. If just one in ten of those people donates a couple of bucks, it would pull me out of this tenuous position I find myself in.
And even if you don't want to or cannot donate, please boost the signal. Every little bit helps. And regardless of how this campaign goes, I am still plugging away on this commission list. I owe it to you all.
Anyway, it's time for me to get back to work.

The chaos is almost over.
Posted 7 years agoSo, the house is sold, the new house is in escrow, and things should be calming down for me now. I'm going to devote the rest of April to finishing up my current commission list, and I'll open up for May commissions if anyone wants to get in early on that. If you currently have a pending commission with me, expect it before the end of the month. If you don't receive it before the end of the month, YELL AT ME! for I have failed you completely. Thank you all for your infinite patience. It has been more than I could ever ask for.
Additional house related delays.
Posted 7 years agoHey folks, still plugging along. It's been a wackadoo month, but the final work for this house sale is almost done. In the meantime, I've posted the March commission calendar filled with my remaining commissioner's names. Let me know If I missed yours.

Delays due to house sale.
Posted 7 years agoGotta apologize again for delays, kids. I was hoping to get a lot more done this month, but a lot of my time has been spent on handyman chores getting this house ready to put up on the market. I've actually made a lot more progress than usual, but I totally get any frustration ya'll might have. I've got a new commission calendar up with all of my backlog on it here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/26177938/
Delays due to Clip Studio crashing.
Posted 7 years agoSorry about the commission delays guys. My Clip Studio keeps crashing every ten minutes and I have no idea why. Still slogging through, though. Thank you for your patience.
December Commissions Are Open
Posted 8 years agoI have opened December commissions here: https://rebrand.ly/commishcalendar
If you have an October commission still pending, I do apologize. I really lost steam this month due to moving house. I'm working on getting them done. Keep an eye on your notes.

Quick Update
Posted 8 years agoSorry about the huge delays, folks. I've been moving house for a while now, and it turned into a much bigger job than I anticipated, so I've had very little time to focus on commissions. But the move is over now, and I'm setting aside the next seven days to finish commissions. Thank you for your patience.
